This chapter proposes the inclusion of on- campus pet companionship in higher educational institutions as an intervention to enhance distress tolerance, psychological resilience, and better- coping strategies among college students. Mid-career dilemmas of female academics: An Indian perspective
Historically, many studies have shown discrimination, bias, and barriers for women entering leadership roles in Indian institutions of higher education. The objective of the present .study is to understand the mid-career dilemma of Indian women leaders based on their personal experiences. The study follows a phenomenological approach. The phenomenological approach as a qualitative research methodology provides for analysing the subjective experiences of individuals and their interpretations of these experiences. Data for the study were collected using a structured questionnaire. The study aggregates the views of women leaders and understands the challenges they face in pursuing their careers and maintaining their leadership roles. Climate Change Adaptation Strategies for Achieving Net-Zero Economy
Today, net zero economy is garnering lot of interest as climate change concerns have become one of the most pressing issues for the organizations. The negative impact of climate change (CC) could be witnessed across all industries. The direct risk (i.e. impairment cost, damages, forced closure from extreme weather events) and indirect risk (i.e. disruption in the business value chain, loss of infrastructure, etc.) emanating from CC has severely impacted the business model of the companies. It is important for companies to address climate challenges in their core business model and take climate action for achieving net zero economy. The aim of this study is to explore the impact of various organizational factors on the climate change adaptation strategies (CCAS) of manufacturing companies in India. The data was collected from 241 respondents and structural equation modelling (SEM) through Smart PLS 3.0 was employed for analysis in the study. Results indicated that corporate knowledge, processes, objectives, financial resources, collective knowledge, and incentives significantly influence the CCAS for the companies. The findings provide valuable input to the managers, practitioners, and other stakeholders interested in promoting climate actions and achieving a net zero economy. Agricultural Crop-Yield Prediction: Comparative Analysis Using Machine Learning Models
Machine learning (ML) is a crucial decision-support tool for predicting agricultural crop yields, enabling choices about which crops to grow and what to do while they are in the growing season. The research on agricultural production prediction has been supported by the application of several ML techniques. We employed a comparative analysis in this study to synthesize using three ML models, including linear regression, polynomial regression, and K-nearest neighbors (KNN), and extracted the results for the prediction of yield. Crop yield depends on a variety of aspects such as temperature, pesticide usage, rainfall, and even year due to changing climatic conditions. It is in our best interest to find out the crop yield based on these factors, as it will help in advancing the farming sector. These collected data have gone through preprocessing - i.e., cleaning, to ensure that no redundant or error data is used to train the ML models. Before we train the models, the dataset is divided into training and testing to provide the performance metrics of each model we use. The experimental results on predictions indicate KNN performs slightly better in comparison with linear regression and polynomial regression models. 2024 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. -
Human AI: Explainable and responsible models in computer vision
Artificial intelligence (AI) is being used in all areas of information, research, and technology. Allied parts of AI have to be investigated for understanding the association among them. Human and explainable AI (XAI) are a few examples that can help in the development of understandable systems. Posthoc actions and operations are geared toward explainable AI, which investigates what went wrong in a black box setting. Responsible AI, on the other hand, seeks to avoid such blunders in the first ring. Ontology is defined as the study of existence and has several applications in computer science, specifically in platforms such as Resource Description Framework and Web Ontology Language. In this chapter, we examine both parts of the aforementioned AI and attempt to establish a link between ontology and explainable AI as they complement each other in terms of creating trustworthy systems. As part of the chapter, an applicable literature is also brought in, emphasizing the necessity of current understanding in explainable and responsible AI. For illustrating the lineage of input and output operations in relation to ontology characteristics and AI, a scenario of AI implementation using image processing dataset is studied. Classroom learning is an integral element of every student's daily life. Assessing the interest levels of individual pupils would help in enhancing the process of teaching and learning. This work contributes to the process of explainable AI by eliciting algorithms that can extract faces from frames, recognize emotions, conduct studies on engagement levels, and provide a session-wide analysis. Detailed descriptions of these operations, as well as specific parameters, are provided to relate the theme of work. Role of ICT in harnessing poverty reduction: An empirical study using an ARDL approach
The catalytic role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in poverty reduction has been examined in this chapter, in line with the United Nation's first Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-1). This study focuses on the impact of ICT variables such as individuals using the internet, population covered by a mobile-cellular network, mobile-cellular telephone subscriptions, and international bandwidth usage, on poverty alleviation using relevant data covering countries worldwide from 2010 to 2022. Employing the Auto Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) method, the study examines both short-run dynamics and long-run effects of ICT interventions towards achieving SDG-1. Results reveal a stronger relationship between internet usage and poverty reduction, alongside a counterintuitive finding showing a negative coefficient for international bandwidth usage. The findings of the study emphasize the pivotal role of internet usage and international bandwidth usage in poverty mitigation. Further, as evidenced by data findings, any immediate changes in the ICT indicators such as international bandwidth usage, population covered by a mobile network, mobile telephone subscriptions may not affect the poverty levels in the short term. The results of the study posit the policymakers to acknowledge the impact of internet usage in alleviating poverty among the world countries. The study reckons that improvement of internet infrastructure and enhancement of digital literacy initiatives via increased internet usage has the potential to harness poverty reduction. 2025 A. Exploring the role of Python in self-supervised contrastive learning for generating medical imaging reports

Evaluation of tourism infrastructure around the ancient marvels of Mahabalipuram and Pattadakal
India is rich in culture and well-known for its mythological knowledge. It has plenty of architectural marvels recognized by UNESCO and maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). For this chapter, two of the cultural UNESCO sites, Mahabalipuram and Pattadakal, have been taken as the scope of the chapter. The introduction section talks about the history of the monuments and provides a brief overview of the tourism infrastructure. The following section, evaluation of tourism infrastructure, aims to analyze Mahabalipuram and Pattadakal's tourism infrastructure using four parameters: transportation and connectivity, accommodation, gastronomical facilities, and tourist amenities. An observational study of the sites was conducted between December 2023 and January 2024. Sexual realism?: (Hetero)sexual excess and the birth of obscenity in malayalam literature
Introduction The 1930s and 1940s were a period when the reform-centric language of Malayalam literature came under blistering attack from a group of authors who initiated a movement called Jeevatsahithyam - meaning literature close to life. This signified a new momentum in the career of modern Malayalam literature in Keralam in the southern part of India with social realism being introduced as a mode of challenging erstwhile trends. Jeevatsahithyam heralded a novel attempt to eliminate the distance between literature and social realities. Its authors deliberately opposed the hegemony of reform language in literature - a product of the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century reform movement. According to them, the language of the reform movement which continued to dominate Malayalam literature was clearly embedded in a vicious circuit consisting of caste, class, and morality. This, as it was commonly argued, was a stumbling block in the realistic representation of social realities in the realm of literature. Jeevatsahithyam was renamed in 1944 as Purogamana Sahithya Sangham (Progressive Literature Society - from here on PLS) (Chandrasekharan 1999; Kumaramkandath 2013). Openly declaring itself against the established morals operating then, its ideological base, however, had to be justified by incorporating the term progress (purogamanam) in its title. Thus, in a larger sense, it signified progressive realism rather than simply social realism. This chapter attempts to delve inside the debates around social realism in Malayalam literature where an ideological battle was staged in the regional public sphere around the questions of, broadly put, aesthetics and morality. It maps the discursive sequences of textual practices from the 1940s to the early 1970s when the depiction of desire in literature was a point of heated debates. I concentrate more on the early debates, particularly in the 1940s and early 1950s because they literally mediated between the rising social (progressive) realisms transgressive writings and the erstwhile reform concerns of engendering disciplined subjects (Devika 2007). As a cultural era, the mid-twentieth century was deeply embedded in the old reform discourses of sexual discipline and the postcolonial euphoria of political freedom. Garbage Management and Monitoring System Using IOT Applications
The main purpose of this application, in addition to boosting the vision of a smart city, is to reduce humankinds effort and resources while simultaneously enhancing the vision. The squashing of the dustbin will occur on a regular schedule. It will be possible to manage waste more efficiently when these sensible garbage bins are implemented on a large scale and replace our previously designed dumpster, as it eliminates the need for waste to be piled up on the roadside in the first place. When managing the trash containers, wireless sensor systems in networks (WSN) in connection with the IoT technologies are used. On the other hand, sensors are used to monitor the container contents in real-time, with results displayed on the website, and the sensed contents are then evaluated to determine the optimal container distribution. This allows for the processing of a variety of waste types depending on the needs of the customer. As a result of installing ultrasonic sensors in each bin, garbage levels are continuously checked. The Utilization of Artificial Intelligence in the Health Care Sector: A Review
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming an integral part of almost all the sectors of the economy and healthcare is not an exception. The aim of this chapter is to review the application of AI in healthcare sector and also explores the challenges in the adoption of artificial intelligence on the same. The authors conducted a thorough review of literature available and also used other secondary sources of data. It was found that, clinical choices, patient information and testing, predictive medical practice and health management of services are the key areas of interest in this AI era. Privacy and data protection was amongst the important challenges of AI in healthcare sector.
