Random forest application on cognitive level classification of E-learning content
The e-learning is the primary method of learning for most learners after the regular academics studies. The knowledge delivery through E-learning technologies increased exponentially over the years because of the advancement in internet and e-learning technologies. Knowledge delivery to some people would never have been possible without the e-learning technologies. Most of the working professional do focused studies for carrier advancement, promotion or to improve the domain knowledge. These learner can find many free e-learning web sites from the internet easily in the domain of interest. However it is quite difficult to find the best e-learning content suitable for their learning based on their domain knowledge level. User spent most of the time figuring out the right content from a plethora of available content and end up learning nothing. An intelligent framework using machine learning algorithms with random forest Classifier is proposed to address this issue, which classifies the e-learning content based on its difficulty levels and provide the learner the best content suitable based on the knowledge level. The frame work is trained with the data set collected from multiple popular e-learning web sites. The model is tested with real time e-learning web sites links and found that the e-contents in the web sites are recommended to the user based on its difficulty levels as beginner level, intermediate level and advanced level. Brain tumor segmentation and detection using MRI images
Brain tumor is caused due to the increased abnormal in brain. It is not something that we might say is limited to aged people alone, but is known to affect newborn babies as well. It affects many people worldwide. With the applications of Machine Learning (ML) and Image Processing (IP), the early detection of brain tumor is possible. In this research work, the different stages in image processing which help to detect brain tumor, is addressed vividly. This work provides information about the various sets of filtering and segmentation methods which can be used to detect whether it is brain tumor or not. All of the filtering methods are defined in image preprocessing techniques. The next procedure is to apply segmentation methods namely watershed segmentation and gray level threshold segmentation. After this, certain features are considered for feature extraction such as area, major axis, minor axis and eccentricity. According to the outcomes from the feature extraction technique, the classification of the tumor is done. In this paper, we achieve an accuracy of 92.35 by using K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) algorithm. Dependence of Eigen frequency on the output performance of a piezoelectric nano sensor: A comparative study
Energy harvesting is an approach to generating electricity that uses the energy of the local environment directly. Instead of relying on batteries or power generated elsewhere, the world needs a new generation of energy-producing products. Generation or accumulation and energy consumption must be balanced when designing such a system. Before implementation into the real world, simulations are available for optimizing device designs, comparing them, predicting them, and formulating methodologies. In this comparative study, using a finite element simulation software COMSOL Multiphysics, an Eigen frequency analysis is performed to validate the relationship between Eigen frequency and output voltage and also shows how much the selection of a piezo electric base material depends on the natural frequency, excitation frequency, and output voltage relationship. A piezoelectric sensor is constructed with an initial base material and using material sweeps, another six materials are added and switched for the purpose. After applying allowable stress and frequency analysis, measured the output electric potential for the first five eigenmodes. Selecting seven different piezo electric base materials that possess unique properties from traditional lead zirconate titanate (PZT) to upcoming polymer material polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), there reveals the role of selecting suitable energy harvesting medium in generating proper output. From the experimented materials, zinc oxide (ZnO), aluminum nitride (AlN), and PVDF are found to be reliable towards the resonance concept and attaining optimum electric potential. Thus, our study strongly supports previous works carried out by the researchers regarding the effect of various piezo electric base materials on output response. 2023 -
Aging Bodies and Necropower: A Critical Study of Geronticide in Tamil Films K.D. and Thalaikoothal
This paper analyzes the act of thalaikoothal, performed on ill and infirm older people in the southern part of the state of Tamil Nadu, India, with reference to two Tamil films, K.D. (2019) and Thalaikoothal (2023), which portray the horrors of the practice. A kind of involuntary euthanasia, the ritual continues to have covert social acceptance as exemplified in the films, favoring the common stereotype that marks aging bodies as unproductive and unworthy of living. Therefore, this article explores the aging bodies in the films as sites of power, controlled by death enforced through Thalaikoothal, employing Mbembes concept of necropower. It also examines the effects of the practice on the elderly, who are compelled to prepare themselves for a forced death. The study further identifies the underlying factors contributing to the prolonged existence of Thalaikoothal even in the present times. 2023, University of Zadar. All rights reserved. -

Intensifying the social performance and sustainability of microfinance institutions to address the social challenge of sanitation: An Indian case study
The microfinance model has helped to address the world's social challenges to some extent. Sanitation is one of the world's social challenges and microfinance can be used as an intervention tool to address this. Worldwide 1.04 billion people still practise open defecation, accounting for 15 per cent of the world population, and of which 594 million are Indians. To address this sanitation problem, Bharathi Women Development Centre (Bharathi), a Tamil Nadu-based non-government organization, used its microfinance programme and group network to educate about the need for toilets, and provided the resources and technical know - how to construct latrines in individual households. So far they have successfully constructed 14,609 toilets by providing microcredit and have experienced no difficulties in repayments of loans, by which it is proved to be a sustainable programme. Bharathi has faced many challenges while implementing this project, such as raising debt fund for on-lending to its sanitation portfolio; shifting the culture of open defecation after construction of toilets, especially with male members of the family; establishing a technical know - how workforce to construct the toilets in rural areas; helping the poorest of the poor to not be burdened by the sanitation loan because of its non-income generating nature; and maintaining the low-cost construction of toilets. This study illustrates how a relatively small NGO microfinance institution was able to create a niche market and implement a sustainable sanitation programme along with its routine microfinance programme by providing awareness, technical assistance, and credit to construct toilets. Social performance and sustainability of Indian microfinance institutions: an interrogation
This paper has come forward from the research proposal to understand the effect of social performance on the sustainability of microfinance institutions. It has been revealed that the conventional method of assessment of financial institutions is not applicable to the microfinance sector. Performance measurement of microfinance institutions has to be different from that of other financial institutions because of the social aspects involved besides profitability. Social performance has now become part of microfinance business along with business sustainability. Our whole study course is entitled Effect of social performance on the sustainability of microfinance institutions. In this paper, we elucidate the topic, find the underrepresented research areas and formulate a research hypothesis for understanding the relationship between social performance and the sustainability of microfinance institutions. 2016, 2016 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group. -
A Pilot Study of the DREAMS Program: A Community Collaborative Intervention for the Psychosocial Development of Middle School Students
The purpose of this study was to pilot the DREAMS (Desire, Readiness, Empowerment, Action, and Mastery for Success) program, a community-collaborative, after-school intervention program designed specifically to address the holistic developmental needs of students at school. The author originally developed and implemented the program in Kerala, India, and later redesigned it for American school students. Combining the theories of Vygotsky and Erikson, the DREAMS model emphasizes the impact of the community on the development of children. This study evaluates the effects of a summer camp, the primary intervention of a three-year program, on the self-worth, self-esteem, and self-concept of 20 middle school students in Northeast Louisiana. After students attended the week-long program, the most significant improvements were observed in self-esteem and self-worth. Further longitudinal or comparative experimental research on the complete design would provide stronger evidence to draw more substantive conclusions. (2024), (California State University). Handoff schemes in mobile environments a comparative study
Vehicular ad-hoc networks are one of the most popular applications of Ad-hoc networks, where networks are formed without any sort of physical connecting medium and can be formed whenever required. It is an area in networks that has enjoyed a considerable amount of attention for quite some time. Due to the highly mobile environment where these networks find their usability, it can be understood that there are a lot of problems with respect to maintaining the communication links between the moving vehicular nodes and the static infrastructures which act as the access points (AP) for these moving vehicular mobile nodes (MN). The coverage area of each AP is limited and as such, the connections need to be re-established time and again between the MNs and the closest accessible AP. Handoff is the process involved here, which deals with selecting the optimal APs as well as the best network available for data transmission. In this article, the authors compare various handoff methods and categorize them based on the different approaches they follow. Copyright 2020 IGI Global. -

Attitude of generations: Does it matter online?
Generational examinations are turning out to be necessary with the characteristics they exhibit. This research work aimed at establishing the interceding relationship of disposition of three distinctive generations-Generation X, Generation Y, and Generation Z. In complete, 1200 responses were acquired from both male and female respondents of each generational class dependent on online purchase data collected by employing Google Forms. For the investigation, the model utilized the SOR framework. The results indicated that attitude does not play a vital role in the purchase intention of Generation X followed by the partial mediation of attitude for Generation Y and full mediation effect for Generation Z. This steady increment of attitudinal change underpins the examination by setting up proof that every age shifts in their mentality and purchasing conduct. Online retailers must concentrate on showcasing systems and create online visual merchandising cues which outwardly advance and make a feeling of stimulating attitude for generations. The current study also added value to the existing literature by classifying the customer base not merely on age, but also on their technological perspective of distinguishing web atmospheric cues and catering to their needs from a generational outlook. The study also took into account the importance of the organism's role played by attitude in the S-O-R framework. In this manner, the study helps marketers to design methodologies and plan online visual marketing space for better generational reaction and benefit. 2021, Associated Management Consultants Pvt.
