Virtual leadership program for adolescents with muscular dystrophy: a process evaluation
Children with muscular dystrophy go through the challenge of moving into adolescence compounded with the challenge of living with a debilitating muscle disease. This paper describes the process evaluation of a group leadership program for adolescents with muscular dystrophy. A five-day online program was conducted for 14 participants, 12 males, and 2 females, between 13 and 18 years, beneficiaries of Mobility in Dystrophy (MIND) trust, Kerala, India. The sessions, which lasted around one and a half hours each, focused on self-discovery through a participatory strength-based approach. The participants feedback was thematically analyzed. The process evaluation parameters, fidelity, dose delivered and received, reach, and context were found to be effective. The 100% attendance of the participants and their perceived improvement in self-confidence, self-awareness, friends circle, skills-set, and leadership were identified as positive outcomes. Psychosocial intervention programs through the online platform, with structured follow-ups for adolescents with life-limiting conditions would be beneficial. 2024 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. -
Inter-relational dynamics of factors affecting the emergence of orphan drugs; [Dynamique interrelationnelle des facteurs influennt lergence des micaments orphelins]
Orphan drugs are medications that are produced for the treatment of rare diseases. As there is less number of patients, the drug manufacturing companies are not keen in producing these drugs. Due to high costs of research and development and low profitability, companies do not want to invest in manufacturing of orphan drugs. Several laws have been passed by Governments of different nations to encourage the development of orphan drugs and make it available to patients. This study explores the interrelation dynamics of factors that has resulted in the greater availability of orphan drugs in recent times. Ten factors: internet technology, legislation, online patient support groups, government subsidiary, biotechnological advancements, corporate social responsibility, awareness and diagnosis of rare diseases and exclusive budgeting by pharmaceutical industries for orphan drugs related research and development and production were taken for the study. With a sample size of 38 experts, the technique of decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) was used for the study. It was found that information technology, legislation, support groups, and budget were the causes and the factors awareness, diagnosis, medicine availability, subsidiary, CSR and biotechnology emerged to be the effect. 2024 Acadie Nationale de Pharmacie -
Narrating Trauma as Victims of Human Trafficking in China: A Study on Select North Korean Memoirs
The memoirs titled In Order to Live; A North Korean Girl's Journey, to Freedom and; A Thousand Miles to Freedom: My Escape from North Korea are written by Yeonmi Park and Eunsun Kim two women who managed to escape from North Korea. They went through an experience of being forced into labour in China as victims of trafficking. In their memoirs these authors vividly depict the pain that comes with being exploited. The main aim of this study is to analyse how memoirs can effectively address the issue of trafficking. These remarkable women skilfully use the memoir genre to make a personal plea for action. They strategically make choices appeal to readers emotions openly share their distressing experiences and support their stories with research and evidence that connect their experiences with the broader problem of human trafficking in China. This study clearly shows that both these memoirs emphasize the importance of the memoir genre in advocating for rights. It also highlights how survivor memoirs have the potential to inspire advocacy and involvement, in combating trafficking. 2025 Sciedu Press. All rights reserved. -
Fabrication of NiO nanoparticles modified with carboxymethyl cellulose and D-carvone for enhanced antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-cancer activities
Colon cancer is a deadly disease while pathogens such as Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae), Shigella dysenteriae (S. dysenteriae), Bacillus subtilis (B. subtilis), Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), and Candida albicans (C. albicans) are serious threat to the human health due to their persistent nature and resistant to conventional drugs. This study aims to develop NiO nanoparticles via single one pot chemical approach and to modifying them with natural molecules carboxymethyl cellulose and D-carvone to enhance antioxidant, anticancer and antibacterial activity. The NiO and NiO-CMC-Dcar exhibit fcc structure confirmed by XRD. The band gap values were found be 4.15 eV for NiO and 4.23 eV for NiO-CMC-Dcar nanocomposite. DLS study confirmed that the mean particles diameter of NiO and NiO-CMC-Dcar were 154.1 nm and 130.3 nm respectively. The TEM and SEM analysis confirmed that both NiO and NiO-CMC-Dcar samples were roughly spherical. PL emission spectra of NiO-CMC- Dcar nanoparticles at 426 nm and 506 nm indicate the electronic structural modification due to incorporation of CMC and Dcar molecules in to NiO materials. The green emission observed at 506 nm is due to oxygen vacancy that can be correlated to production of more reactive oxygen species (ROS) to kill microorganism. The experimental results show that the NiO-CMC- Dcar nanoparticles exhibit enhanced antimicrobial, anticancer and antioxidant activity when compared to NiO alone. 2024 Elsevier B.V. -
ON THE INDICES OF CERTAIN GRAPH PRODUCTS
Molecular descriptors are numerical graph invariants that are used to study the chemical structure of molecules. In this paper, we determine the upper bound of the Sombor index based on four operations involving the subdivision graph, semi-total point graph, semi-total line graph, and total graph related to the lexicographic and tensor product. The exact expressions of the first reformulated Zagreb index and the second hyper-Zagreb index of the tensor product are formulated on the basis of the four significant graphs. Further, the descriptors for certain standard graphs are obtained and the graphical comparison for the first reformulated Zagreb index has also been illustrated to understand the result better. 2025 University of Isfahan -
Investigation of Spectroscopic Parameters and Trap Parameters of Eu3+-Activated Y2SiO5 Phosphors for Display and Dosimetry Applications
Using the solid-state reaction technique, varied Y2SiO5 phosphors activated by europium (Eu3+) ions at varied concentrations were made at calcination temperatures of 1000 C and 1250 C during sintering in an air environment. The XRD technique identified the monoclinic structure, and the FTIR technique was used to analyze the generated phosphors. Photoluminescence emission and excitation patterns were measured using varying concentrations of Eu3+ ions. The optimal strength was observed at a 2.0 mol% concentration. Emission peaks were detected at 582 nm and 589 nm for the 5D0?7F1 transition and at 601 nm, 613 nm, and 632 nm for the 5D0?7F2 transition under 263 nm excitation. Because Eu3+ is naturally bright, these emission peaks show how ions change from one excited state to another. This makes them useful for making phosphors that emit red light for use in optoelectronics and flexible displays. Based on the computed (1931 CIE) chromaticity coordinates for the photoluminescence emission spectra, it was determined that the produced phosphor may be used in light-emitting diodes. The TL glow curve was examined for various doping ion concentrations and durations of UV exposure levels, revealing a broad peak at 183 C. Using computerized glow curve deconvolution (CGCD), we calculated the kinetic parameters. 2024 by the authors. -
Environmentally conscious synthesis of novel pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidines via ternary deep eutectic solvents
Pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidine and its analogues have gained considerable courtesy because of their diverse biological functions and wide-ranging applications, from pharmaceutical agents to essential natural pigments. However, synthesising pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidine with multiple reactants is challenging and requires advanced green chemistry solutions. This study investigates the generation of thirteen new pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidine analogues through a single-step, open-flask, multicomponent reaction (MCR) strategy involving aldehydes, phenylhydrazine, ethyl acetoacetate, and barbituric acid via deep eutectic solvents (DES). These DESs serve as environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional solvents. A ternary deep eutectic solvent (TDES) was evaluated for its catalytic solvent activity among ten different formulations. TDES-7 (5 mL) demonstrated the best performance, achieving 95 % product formation within 30 min at room temperature. Its remarkable catalytic activity and ability to produce high yields across multiple reaction cycles make it a standout choice for this application. The collaboration between MCR and TDES underscores an important blend of two significant green aspects, demonstrating their potential to achieve a green and productive sustainable synthesis method with an noble E-factor of 0.1236. 2024 Elsevier B.V. -
A social psychological investigation of Anti-nationalism in contemporary India A media analysis
The paper aims to explore the consensual and dissident social representations of anti-national that has re-entered the media lexicon in India post an alleged anti-national student protest in Jawaharlal Nehru University in the capital city of Delhi, India on February 9, 2016. The Social Representation Theory (SRT) is used to analyze the selected media reports of six daily newspapers, three each in English and Hindi language for a period of one year subsequent to the event. Results of thematic anchoring and anchoring by antinomy, a methodology used by Birgitta Hjer, are reported. The results reveal how the intergroup tensions and ideological differences in the polity constitute the conflicting social thinking on the referent. The paper has global implication for opening the possibilities of negotiation and transformation of social meanings related to nationalism and anti-nationalism. The Author(s) 2025. -
Role of Digitalization and Government Effectiveness in Sustainable Energy Transition: Evidence From Asian Economies
This study explores how digitalization, through resident and non-resident innovation initiatives, along with government effectiveness, affects the transition to renewable energy generation in five Advanced (Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand and Singapore) and seven Emerging (China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam) Asian economies. The research uses annual data from 1985 to 2022 and applies several econometric methods to analyse the impact of these factors on renewable energy generation in a panel setup while also considering economic growth and human capital as key control variables. The findings reveal that residential innovation negatively impacts renewable energy generation in Advanced Asia but has a positive effect in Emerging Asia. Additionally, government effectiveness and non-residential innovation hinder renewable energy generation in Emerging Asia while contributing positively in Advanced Asia. Economic growth and human capital show a positive association with renewable energy generation in both Advanced and Emerging Asian economies. These findings are robust to an alternative method used. Besides, additional robust results further indicate that artificial intelligence patents used as an alternative measure of digitalization hinder renewable energy generation in Emerging Asia and promote it in Advanced Asia. These findings provide valuable guidance for policymakers and stakeholders, highlighting the need for tailored strategies to drive sustainable energy transition in different economic contexts. 2025 John Wiley & Sons Ltd. -
A statistical approach to study anatomical changes of pink guava cultivar (Psidium guajava L. cv Arka Kiran) during its ripening at the room temperature storage
The ripening of climacteric fruit like guava is a complex process that is highly coordinated with its cellular backbone. In the present study, we combined microscopy, spectrophotometry, and statistical analysis to evaluate the anatomical changes in the pink variety of guava during five ripening stages (pre-ripe, ripe, color-turn, half over-ripe, and over-ripe) during its storage at room temperature (282 C). The cholorophyll content of the peel, as determined by the measurement of chlorophyll a, b, and total chlorophyll, showed a significant decrease during the maturation process (4.05, 4.53, and 8.62 ?g/cm2, respectively, in the pre-ripe stage to not detectable in the over-ripe stage). Gradual loss of integrity of the fruit pulp (pericarp) from the preserved bee-hive structure to cell mass was also monitored by studying the cellular anatomy with brightfield and scanning electron microscopy. The epidermal thickness and width of the cortical parenchyma cells revealed statistical differences from the initial pre-ripe stage to the final full-ripe stage. Finally, based on the cellular dimensions, multivariate analysis using PCA (Principal Component Analysis) tool grouped the stages into three clusters, namely, pre-ripe: ripe, color-turn: half-over ripe, and over-ripe stages. In conclusion, this study provided significant insights into cultivar-specific anatomical changes in guava fruit, with potential for future research to develop variants with longer post-harvest storage life. 2024 The Author(s) -
Voicing Out Parental Experiences of Schooling Their Children with Learning Disabilities: A Qualitative Study of Inclusive Government Schools of India
The paper shone light on the lived experiences of parents of children with learning disabilities. The specific objective was to understand the challenges, experiences and aspirations of parents for their children. A phenomenological study was adopted for the study so as to focus on the experiences of the parents. Participants were parents (female- 17 and male- 3) of children in primary classes, who were identified through purposive sampling from government schools of Delhi, NCR from 3 underdeveloped areas of Delhi - Nangloi, Mangolpuri and Ranhaula. The data was collected by semi-structured interviews and later thematically analyzed. The findings were on the basis of the past and present experiences and further their future aspirations for the children. They revealed that the parents faced challenges with applying and issuance of the UDID certificates, but with the collaborative efforts of the special educator and the parents along with various support systems that are provided by the school their experiences became positive. It was also brought to light that the mother was the main caregiver in most of the cases. All the parents were worried, what will happen to their children if they are not there with them. They aspired that the students will be financially independent and have a safe future ahead of them. They dream of a society where all the students are equal in an inclusive environment. Development of Green Synthesized Novel Carbon Dots from Ruta Graveolens L. for Fluorescent and Intracellular Sensing of Mercury Ions in Pico-molar (pm) Concentration
Green nanotechnology, which uses carbon nanomaterials for environmental remediation, is the pioneer among the prevailing approaches for the production and characterization. In the present study, highly fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) from Ruta Graveolens (ARH-CD) is developed, and its efficacy as a fluorescent sensor and biomarker is investigated. They act as a fluorescence sensor for Hg2+ over an extensive concentration range of 1 picomolar (pm) to 1 molar (m), with a detection limit as low as 26.75 pm. The studies reveal ARH-CD as an effective biomarker for intracellular toxicity analysis and a fluorescent probe for multi-colored (blue, green, and red) imaging of HEK293 cell lines. After 24 h of incubation, it is found that the ARH material reveals noticeable biocompatibility and visible fluorescence, with a viability of 98.88% at 5 gmL?1 and over 78.33% even at a concentration of 100 gmL?1. The IC50 value for the MTT assay for cell viability results is calculated to be 224.56 4.67 g, which further confirms the appreciable biocompatibility of the ARH-CD. The obtained samples are effective in being inspected for the intracellular detection of Hg2+ and serve as a possible candidate for cell imaging. 2024 Wiley-VCH GmbH. -
Conflict and Coexistence of Human Rights: An Exploratory Study with Reference to Intellectual Property Rights
Human rights and Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) have developed independently. Human rights are inalienable rights associated with human dignity while IPRs are the rights with the goal of promoting innovations and the interests of select communities to further economic and technological growth. The economic and personal interests of the individual have received prime attention under the international intellectual property law. Economic growth is given priority over human rights in the international criteria for IPRs in global trade. Whereas, it has a significant impact on the implementation of human rights for both individuals and communities, including the rights to adequate food, health, environment, and education. IPRs are gravely at odds with human rights, even though a connection between the two rights can be found in General Comment No. 17 on Article 15(1)(c) of the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) and Article 27 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). According to the UDHR, intellectual property is a human right in and of itself, but its enforcement often infringes other human rights. In light of the above perspective, the authors explore the interrelationship between IPRs and human rights and also analyze the evolving IPRs, in different fields of its application, causing adversarial impacts on several other human rights. Investor's behaviour to COVID-19 vaccination campaign; An event study and panel data analysis in the southeast asian region
This study examines how the COVID-19 immunization campaign has influenced the stock market responses in the WHO Southeast Asian Region. The effects of the immunization campaign on the WHO Southeast Asian countries were different, and the study used event study techniques and panel-data regression models to investigate the impact of the WHO South-East Asian capital market. Some countries like India, Sri Lanka, and South Korea had positive markets that responded to the news, while others did not. The findings of this study suggest that investors make fair assessments and respond to events and announcements, but they tend to have a more visible reaction to negative incidents than to positive news/events. However, after 51 days, the WHO South East region as a whole had internalized the encouraging news. The study has a few limitations, such as a small dataset and period, only a few variables and models, and so on. Future studies could include a few additional countries and periods to produce more significant results. Originality/value- This study contributes to the existing knowledge about the impact of drugs and vaccinations on stock markets. It is the first study to investigate how the WHO Southeast Asian Region's COVID-19 immunization program affects the stock market reaction. A happy mother raises a happy child: insights from employed mothers in Bengali families in Kolkata
The present study explores the complexities of motherhood in Bengali middle-class families, where mothers are traditionally viewed as primary caregivers. Despite societal shifts and increased female workforce participation, mothers still face pressure to prioritize intensive mothering. Through qualitative analysis, the research explores how employed mothers balance work and childcare responsibilities, shedding light on their agency and empowerment within patriarchal structures. Findings reveal a nuanced landscape where mothers navigate societal expectations while striving for autonomy. Support systems, changing socio-economic dynamics, and technological advancements contribute to reshaping maternal roles. Mothers, though not uniformly identifying as feminists, challenge traditional norms, embracing an egalitarian approach to mothering. The study underscores the resilience of mothers in negotiating patriarchal constraints, highlighting their capacity to foster empowerment for themselves and their children within familial and societal contexts. Liquid gold: assessing groundwater quality at the historic Kolar gold fields, Karnataka, India
To assess ecological sustainability and resilience, it is necessary to periodically examine various ecological properties in areas with high pollution and contaminant risks. Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) in Kolar, Karnataka, showcases one of India's most contaminated zones because of the extensive gold mining and its lingering effects. In KGF, the quality of groundwater has been severely reduced as there exist extensive mining tailings, locally referred to as cyanide dumps, which have been neglected for several preceding years without proper disposal strategies. The current approach focuses on the water pollution caused by heavy metal deposits in the KGF region. Groundwater samples were sampled from Oorgam, an abandoned region in KGF, and subsequently filtered for water quality examinations. The investigation documented concentrations of several metals, including cadmium (0.068 0.0024 ppm), lead (0.288 0.0016 ppm), nickel (0.058 0.0047 ppm), and chromium (0.23 0.0235 ppm) and have met the standard specifications in accordance with World Health Organization (WHO). Prominent pH disparity was documented amongst the experimental samples, with a detectable pH drop in the aqua-purified water in comparison to the positive control. The test results imply that the water samples collected from KGF remain unpotable for consumption or irrigation due to the persistence of high levels of heavy metal concentration. Deterministic, Stochastic, and Deep Learning Approaches to Understand the Economic Fluctuations in India
In the present work, a new mathematical framework is proposed for studying the interrelation among population growth rate, GDP, inflation rate, and unemployment rate within deterministic and stochastic frameworks. The values of the parameters of the proposed model are estimated using real data from India. The local and global uniqueness of solutions is established for the stochastic model. The deterministic model is solved by using the Adams-Bashforth-Moulton predictor-corrector method, and Milstein's method is used for solving the stochastic model. Numerical simulations correlated quite strongly with observed data, while projections for the 20242030 period indicate that controlled population growth bodes well for the outlook of the economy for India, supporting economic prosperity alongside reduced inflation and better employment conditions. The findings presented in this work are correlational; therefore, to find the possible cause for this phenomenon, further research is required with detailed datasets. Comparing our model's GDP predictions with that obtained using a long short-term memory recurrent neural network model returned very high values of predictive accuracy, thus reinforcing the strength and reliability of our framework. 2025 John Wiley & Sons Ltd. -

The total upper domatic number Dt(G) of G is the maximum order of a total upper domatic partition of G. In this paper, we initiate a study on the concept of total upper domatic number and determine the bounds of Dt(G) and exact values of the same for some classes of graphs. Nitrogen-Oxygen Co-Functionalized Waste Cassava Peel-Derived Carbon Dots for White Led
White light emitting diodes (WLEDs)are most sought after, with the broad spectra ranging from cool to warm white light being skillfully utilized to create various modes of lighting effects. The fabrication of WLEDs is generally sophisticated, involving either multiple components emitting in different regions or single-component phosphors with complex elemental compositions. In the present work, WLEDs utilizing solvent-tuned carbon dots derived from waste cassava peel are reported through a facile one-step microwave-assisted solvothermal method. The carbon dots show evident UV absorption and correspondingly emit broad visible light spectra when dispersed in a dimethylformamide (DMF)-polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)blend, making themselves suitable white lightemitting down conversion materials. The successful transformation of a 400nm UV LED into a WLED with a general colour rendering index (CRI) of 83 and colour correlation temperature (CCT) of 4426 K gives a promising future outlook toward developing eco and economic-friendly WLEDs. 2025 Wiley-VCH GmbH. -
An efficient reconfigurable band tuning filter design for channelizer in transponder satellite system
For improved performance in a variety of applications, the transponder in satellite systems must be very flexible. The channelizer-dependent transponder system significantly boosts the operation of a satellite system. When channelizing wideband input signals, a digital filter bank is typically used to extract several small sub-bands. In this research, a reconfigurable band tuning (RBT) design for the channelizer in the satellite transponder system is designed and implemented. Cosine modulation, exponential modulation and IFIR filter are the techniques behind the RBT design. The RBT design facilitates the generation of many channels enabling channelization with non-uniform narrow transition width. A number of examples are presented to illustrate how well the RBT design performs. Findings indicate that there are fewer filter coefficients in the RBT design than there are in the current approaches Effective implementation of a properly designed RBT design lowers power consumption and simplifies the hardware. 2024 The Franklin Institute
