Implementation of FOAF, AIISO and DOAP ontologies for creating an academic community network using semantic frameworks
Web 2.0 delivers the information which is then displayed in human readable content, omitting the crucial information which can be drawn from the data by the applications. Web 3.0 or semantic web is an extension to the current web, with an ambition to determine the drawbacks of the current web. The semantic web has already proven its influence in several communities around the globe, such as social media, music industry, healthcare domain, online blogs or articles, etc.; Among the several tools and technologies, ontologies or vocabularies are the foundation pillar for the semantic web. In this paper, the developed system aims at improving the collaboration and academic relations among staff which is directly related to our education community by providing a better networking platform which lets the agents discuss their achievements, titles, domain interests, and various other activities. Results have been analyzed to show how new facts, information can be implied from the presented knowledge of several agents and help generate a relationship graph by utilizing various semantic tools. The system discussed in this paper processes all the information in a format which can be understood by both humans and the machines, to interpret the underlying meaning about it and provide effective results. Can menstrual cups become an alternative to sanitary napkins? A critical analysis among women in bangalore city
The topic of menstrual hygiene is always considered as a taboo to speak out in the public and even women hesitate to discuss their feelings or experiences about the same. With the help of revolutionary product called Sanitary Napkins, many women were able to understand their menstrual pattern and maintain their personal hygiene effectively. However, there has been number of new products flooding the market that is eco-friendly as well as economical. One such product is Menstrual cups and this research paper primarily tries to understand the consumer awareness and the usage of menstrual cups as an alternative to sanitary napkins among women in Bangalore city. Since sanitary napkins result in generation of ample amount of wastes and possess the risk of health hazards like TSS,UTI and yeast infections; this research focuses on understanding how women are ready for adopting eco-friendly method like menstrual cups. To understand the same, a sample of 138 women respondents were taken for the study from different age groups, educational qualification and income groups and were asked to fill a questionnaire. An efficient approach towards clustering using K-means algorithm
Cluster analysis is one of the major knowledge mining methods in the field of data analytics; the approach used for clustering will influence the accuracy of the results and quality of the obtained clusters. A good clustering process or algorithm is one which increases the fit of the data points in each cluster and which satisfies the clustering criteria, if these measures are not met adequately the desired pattern will not be seen and the patterns obtained for analysis may turn out to be inaccurate or insufficient. This paper discusses the standard k-means clustering algorithm and provides an efficient approach towards clustering using the standard global K-means algorithm; the process eliminates the need for initializing random number of clusters multiple times which is followed as the standard process in the field. The effectiveness of the proposed approach was analyzed using the benchmark dataset and the implementation was performed using the well-known analytic tool R Studio and supporting packages. Facile construction of gefitinib-loaded zeolitic imidazolate framework nanocomposites for the treatment of different lung cancer cells
Gefitinib (GET) is a revolutionary targeted treatment inhibiting the epidermal growth factor receptor's tyrosine kinase action by competitively inhibiting the ATP binding site. In preclinical trials, several lung cancer cell lines and xenografts have demonstrated potential activity with GET. Response rates neared 25% in preclinical trials for non-small cell lung cancer. Here, we describe the one-pot synthesis of GET@ZIF-8 nanocomposites (NCs) in pure water, encapsulating zeolitic imidazolate framework 8 (ZIF-8). This method developed NCs with consistent morphology and a loading efficiency of 9%, resulting in a loading capacity of 20wt%. Cell proliferation assay assessed the anticancer effect of GET@ZIF-8 NCs on A549 and H1299 cells. The different biochemical staining (Calcein-AM and PI and 4?,6-Diamidino-2-phenylindole nuclear staining) assays assessed the cell death and morphological examination. Additionally, the mode of apoptosis was evaluated by mitochondrial membrane potential (??m) and reactive oxygen species. Directional solidification and characterization of InBi1?xSbx crystals
Homogeneous and stoichiometric samples of InBi1?xSbx (x=0, 0.1) crystals have been directionally solidified to explore their suitability for optoelectronic applications. Prior to the growth, the temperature distribution of an indigenously fabricated horizontal furnace has been analysed and optimized to conduct the growth experiments on the basis of phase diagram of the material. Systematic trials have been carried out for several growth runs (48, 60 and 72h) by maintaining an axial temperature gradient of 4, 6 and 8C/cm with the aid of a temperature controller mechanism. The key parameters governing the growth mechanism, composition, phase, and structure of the grown InBi1?xSbx crystals were investigated via X-ray diffraction, scanning electron and atomic force microscopy, Raman and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The presence of secondary phases was ruled out and the average congruent melting points of InBi and InBi0.9Sb0.1 samples were confirmed as 109.43 and 121.13C respectively, by employing differential scanning calorimetric analysis. Investigations on the optical, electrical and mechanical properties of these materials were carried out. Vickers microhardness was found to increase with the Sb incorporation. The average optical band gap computed from the IR transmission spectra was found to be 0.165eV. The results obtained promise that InBi1?xSbx crystals grown by directional solidification are favourable candidates than those grown by other melt methods. 2016, Springer Science+Business Media New York. -
Sublimation process and physical properties of vapor grown ?-In2Se3 platelet crystals
Indium selenide (?-In2Se3) crystals have been grown by the closed tube sublimation process in the absence of seed crystals and chemical transporting agents. The composition, structure and morphology of the samples grown under different vacuum conditions were examined by energy dispersive analysis, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscope. Structural features of the crystals obtained in a vacuum of 10?3 mbar exhibited a few reflections not belonging to ? phase, whereas X-ray diffraction spectra of the crystals deposited under a vacuum of 10?6 mbar revealed evidence of sharp peaks with high intensities of ?-In2Se3 crystalline phase. When growth runs were performed for 72 h, voids were observed on the surface whereas for a duration of 120 h, platelet crystals were obtained. Optical properties of these samples were investigated using the FT-IR and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The average transmittance of the platelets in the visible and near infrared region of solar spectrum was found to be ?81% and an optical band gap of ?2.05 eV was computed from the transmission spectrum. Photoluminescence spectra of the grown In2Se3 crystals recorded at room temperature using an excitation laser of wavelength 355 nm showed a peak in the near band edge emission (NBE) corresponding to an energy of 2.01 eV. Under an illumination power of 12 mW/cm2, the photocurrent increased linearly with applied voltage and the dark current was found to be ~2.50?9 A for 10 V. These results suggest that the as-grown ?-In2Se3 platelets crystallized from vapor deposition, possess superior optoelectronic properties than the other phases for solar cell applications. 2016 Elsevier B.V. -
Gamma irradiation effects in InBi0.8Te0.2 crystals grown by horizontal directional freezing
The high-energy gamma-ray irradiation treatment using Co-60 isotope offers the possibility of engineering mechanical and optoelectronic properties of InBi0.8Te0.2 crystals. Tellurium-doped indium bismuthide (InBi) crystals were prepared by horizontal directional freezing technique. Dose-dependent modifications in structure, composition and surface topographical features have been analyzed by X-ray powder diffraction, X-ray energy-dispersive analysis, transmission electron and atomic force microscopy, respectively. Dielectric constant and dielectric loss were found to increase with the cumulative dose of radiation, and a shift in the ferroelectric transition temperature (T0c0) from 405 to 410 K was observed for 25 kGy. Upon irradiation, there is an enhancement in microhardness (H0V0), yield stress (sigma; 0y0) and stiffness constant (C0110). The optical transmittance was decreased by 12.45%, resulting in a reduction in the optical band gap from 0.210 eV to 0.198 eV. These results indicate the suitability of InBi00.80Sb00.20 crystals for low-wavelength infrared applications. The Chinese Society for Metals and Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2015. -

Package-free stores or zero waste stores are emerging as an innovative sustainable concept these days.This paper attempts to analyze the modus operandi of package free stores in India, their main features and the challenges that they face.Data was collected from five package-free shops in India among which one store has multiple branches across the nation.As of today, these stores cover almost the entire population.The findings suggest that these stores promote sustainable consumption among the people and also meet three important sustainable development goals (SDGs).They uplift the local economy and contribute to the economic prosperity of local residents and businesses by supporting local and regional farmers.It provides toxic-free products contributing to a healthy society by renouncing plastic completely.It protects the environment thereby increasing the growth of the local economy.Since the movement towards sustainable economic practices is inadequate, proactive steps should be taken to adopt innovative practices. 2022 Scientific Publishers. Deciphering the properties of UV upturn galaxies in the Virgo cluster
The UV upturn refers to the increase in UV flux at wavelengths shorter than 3000 observed in quiescent early-type galaxies (ETGs), which still remains a puzzle. In this study, we aim to identify ETGs showing the UV upturn phenomenon within the Virgo galaxy cluster. We utilized a colourcolour diagram to identify all potential possible UV upturn galaxies. The spectral energy distributions (SED) of these galaxies were then analysed using the CIGALE software; we confirmed the presence of UV upturn in galaxies within the Virgo cluster. We found that the SED fitting method is the best tool to visualize and confirm the UV upturn phenomenon in ETGs. Our findings reveal that the population distributions regarding stellar mass and star formation rate properties are similar between UV upturn and red sequence galaxies. We suggest that the UV contribution originates from old stellar populations and can be modelled effectively without a burst model. Moreover, by estimating the temperature of the stellar population responsible for the UV emission, we determined it to be 13 000 K to 18 000 K. These temperature estimates support the notion that the UV upturn likely arises from the contribution of low mass evolved stellar populations (extreme horizontal branch stars). Furthermore, the Mg2 index, a metallicity indicator, in the confirmed upturn galaxies shows higher strength and follows a similar trend to previous studies. This study sheds light on the nature of UV upturn galaxies within the Virgo cluster and provides evidence that low-mass evolved stellar populations are the possible mechanisms driving the UV upturn phenomenon. 2024 The Author(s). -
Beyond the rings: Polar ring galaxy NGC 4262 and its globular cluster system
In the context of the hierarchical model of galaxy evolution, polar ring galaxies (PRGs) are considered the intermediate phase between ongoing mergers and quiescent galaxies. This study explores the globular cluster system (GCS) and its properties in the nearest PRG, NGC4262, serving as a pilot investigation to study GCS in nearby PRGs. We utilize wide and deep-field observations of the CFHT as part of the NGVS to investigate the GCS of NGC4262. We presented the first optical image of NGC4262 with an optically faint ring component. The photometric analysis of the GCS displays a distinct colour bimodality. We estimate the total number of GCs for NGC4262 to be 266 16 GCs with a specific frequency of 4.2 0.8 and a specific mass of 0.23 0.01, which is relatively high compared to other galaxies of similar mass and environmental conditions. The spatial and azimuthal distributions of subpopulations reveal strong evidence of previous interactions within the host galaxy. The colour distribution of GCS in NGC4262 shows a gradient of 0.05 0.01 within 5.5, supporting the notion of past interactions and evolutionary transitions. PRG NGC4262 conforms to the overall trend of the GCS mass with respect to the halo mass. Furthermore, our investigation of the global scaling relations between GCS and host galaxy parameters provides further support for the hypothesis that PRGs are an intermediate phase connecting ongoing mergers and quiescent galaxies. 2024 The Author(s). DES J024008.08-551047.5: A new member of the polar ring galaxy family
Aims. This study presents the discovery of a new polar ring galaxy (PRG) candidate and highlights its unique features and characteristics. We provide evidence from photometric analysis that supports the inclusion of galaxy DES J024008.08-551047.5 (DJ0240) in the PRG catalogue. Methods. During the visual observations of optical imaging data obtained from the Dark Energy Camera Legacy Survey, a serendipitous discovery was made of a ringed galaxy, DJ0240. We conducted a one-dimensional isophotal analysis to determine the position angle of the ring component and its relative orientation to the host galaxy. A two-dimensional GALFIT analysis was performed to confirm the orthogonal nature of the ring galaxy and identify distinct components within the host galaxy. We compared the photometric properties of the host and ring components of DJ0240 with PRGs and other ring-type galaxies (RTGs), finding that DJ0240 shares similar properties with both of these galaxy types. Results. We have discovered the galaxy DJ0240, a PRG candidate with a ring component positioned almost perpendicular to the host galaxy. The position angles of the ring and host components are ?80 and ?10, respectively, indicating that they are nearly orthogonal to each other. The extension of the ring component is three times greater than that of the host galaxy and shows a distinct colour separation, being bluer than the host. The estimated g-r colour values of the host and ring components are 0.86 0.02 and 0.59 0.10 mag, respectively. The colour value of the ring component is similar to those of typical spiral galaxies. The host galaxy's colour and the presence of a bulge and disc components indicate that the host galaxy may be lenticular. Our findings reveal a subtle yet noticeable colour difference between the host and ring components of PRGs and RTGs. We observe that both the host and ring components of DJ0240 align more closely with PRGs than with RTGs. Furthermore, we compared the Sersic index values of the ring component (nring) of galaxy DJ0240 with a selected sample of PRGs and Hoag-type galaxies. The results show that DJ0240 has a remarkably low nring value of 0.13, supporting the galaxy's classification as a PRG. Hence, we suggest that the ring galaxy DJ0240 is a highly promising candidate for inclusion in the family of PRGs. 2024 The Authors. -
Long Term X-Ray Spectral Variations of the Seyfert-1 Galaxy Mrk 279
We present the results from a long term X-ray analysis of Mrk 279 during the period 2018-2020. We use data from multiple missions - AstroSat, NuSTAR and XMM-Newton, for the purpose. The X-ray spectrum can be modeled as a double Comptonization along with the presence of neutral Fe K? line emission, at all epochs. We determined the sources X-ray flux and luminosity at these different epochs. We find significant variations in the sources flux state. We also investigate the variations in the sources spectral components during the observation period. We find that the photon index and hence the spectral shape follow the variations only over longer time periods. We probe the correlations between fluxes of different bands and their photon indices, and found no significant correlations between the parameters. 2024. Modelling the energy dependent X-ray variability of Mrk 335
We present a technique which predicts the energy dependent fractional r.m.s. for linear correlated variations of a pair of spectral parameters and apply it to an XMM-Newton observation of Mrk 335. The broadband X-ray spectrum can be interpreted as a patchy absorber partially covering the primary emission, a warm and hot coronal emission or a relativistically blurred reflection along with the primary emission. The fractional r.m.s. has a non-monotonic behaviour with energy for segments of lengths 3 and 6 ksecs. For each spectral model, we consider every pair of spectral parameters and fit the predicted r.m.s. with the observed ones, to get the pair which provides the best fit. We find that a variation in at least two parameters is required for all spectral interpretations. For both time segments, variations in the covering fraction of the absorber and the primary power law index gives the best result for the partial covering model, while a variation in the normalization and spectral index of the warm component gives the best fit in the two corona interpretation. For the reflection model, the best fit parameters are different for the two time segment lengths, and the results suggests that more than two parameters are required to explain the data. This, combined with the extreme values of emissivity index and reflection fraction parameters obtained from the spectral analysis, indicates that the blurred reflection model might not be a suitable explanation for the Mrk 335 spectrum. Computational techniques to study the dynamics of generalized unstable nonlinear Schringer equation
In this paper, a more general form of unstable nonlinear Schringer equation which describe the time evolution of disturbances in marginally stable or unstable media is studied. A new modification of the Sardar sub-equation method is discussed and employed to retrieve solitons and other solutions of the suggested nonlinear model. A variety of solutions, including bright solitons, dark solitons, singular solitons, combo bright-singular solitons, periodic, exponential, and rational solutions are provided with considerable physical perspective. Using the q-homotopy analysis algorithm in combination with the Laplace transform, we present the approximate solutions of the bright and dark solitons, including the physical nature of the attained solutions. The computation complexity and results indicate that the given techniques are simple, effective, uncomplicated, and that they may be used to a wide range of unstable and stable nonlinear evolution equations encountered in mathematics, mathematical physics, and other applied disciplines. 2022 -
Novel approach to the analysis of fifth-order weakly nonlocal fractional Schringer equation with Caputo derivative
The main goal of this study is to find solutions for the fractional model of the fifth-order weakly nonlocal Schringer equation incorporating nonlinearity of the parabolic law and external potential using a recent modification of the homotopy analysis method (HAM) called the q-homotopy analysis transform method (q-HATM). A mixture of q-HAM and Laplace transform is the projected solutions procedure. The method contributes approximate and exact (for some special cases) solutions such as the bright soliton, dark soliton, and exponential solutions. The simulation results using Mathematica package software, demonstrate that only a few terms are enough to achieve precise, effective, and reliable approximate solutions. In addition, in terms of plots for varying fractional order, the physical behavior of q-HATM solutions has been depicted and the numerical simulation is also exhibited. The results of q-HATM reveal that the projected method is competitive, reliable, and powerful for studying complex nonlinear models of fractional type. 2021 The Authors
