Star formation in a massive spiral galaxy with a radio-AGN
We present an analysis of new VLT/MUSE optical imaging spectroscopic data of 2MASX J23453268-0449256 (J2345-0449), a nearby (z = 0:0755) massive (Mstellar = 4*1011 M) spiral galaxy. This is a particularly interesting source for a study of active galactic nucleus (AGN) feedback since it hosts two pairs of bright, giant radio jets and a massive, luminous X-ray halo, but it has no massive bulge. The galaxy has a 24 kpc wide ring of molecular gas, and a source-averaged star formation rate that is factors 30 to 70 lower than expected from the Kennicutt-Schmidt law. With MUSE, we have analyzed the stellar continuum and bright optical line emission and have constrained the spatially resolved past and present star formation on scales of approximately 1 kpc. More than 93% of the stellar mass formed ?10 Gyrs ago including in the disk. Optical emission from the AGN is very faint and contributes 2% of the continuum around the nucleus at most. Most line emission is predominantly excited by shocks and old stellar populations except in 13 young star-forming regions that formed ?11 Myrs ago, of which only seven are associated with the molecular ring (the others are at larger radii). They avoid a region of high electron densities aligned with the radio source, and form stars at efficiencies that are comparable to those in normal spiral galaxies. We discuss the implications of our findings for the regulation of star formation in galaxies through AGN feedback in the absence of competing mechanisms related to the presence of a massive stellar bulge, such as morphological quenching. Drama and organisational culture: an exploration of Aristotles Poetics as a conceptual dramatic framework in the design of organisational culture
Purpose: The paper draws extensively from Aristotles Poetics, a classical work on the aesthetics of drama. Drawing from symbolic and thematic elements from folklore and mythology, this paper aims to illustrate how the Poetics can be referenced as an allegorical device in the design of culture-building strategies and interventions. Design/methodology/approach: This exploratory paper examines Aristotles Poetics and the range of creative expression this literature provides as a conceptual design framework for the development of a culture map in creating a distinctive organisational mythology. The Poetics articulates an Aristotelian perspective on theatre which infuses itself as a new language in offering structural and archetypical plot devices in the development of an organisational narrative. Findings: Findings from this explorative study can provide a creative roadmap to culture practitioners and leaders, to be used as a determining reference point in developing culture maps and change management interventions. Practical implications: Poetics has its detractors, notably Bertolt Brecht and Augusto Boal. Boal examines how Poetics promotes a narrative that suppresses free thinking and encourages a cult of feudal personality, therefore encouraging industrial and cultural oppression, which he rebelled against through the development of his Theatre of the Oppressed. This new kind of theatre discarded the Aristotelian model of thinking. Ideas proposed in the Poetics may also lend verisimilitude to the propagation of obsessive consumerism through the definitive symbolism it offers in the development of institutionalised personality cults. Originality/value: The Poetics as a creatively driven reflexive study provides a forward movement in the study of culture design templates. Its definitive allegorical devices and metaphors act as action principles through which an enterprise culture and its value system can be examined and developed. 2024, Emerald Publishing Limited. -
An Introduction to ?Agile for HR Through? the Development of ?an Agile Operating ?Mindset
An understanding of Agile principles and a readiness mindset for human resources professionals play a crucial role in determining the application of Agile for HR in an organisational context. With the rise in extended and non-linear workforce configurations and geo-neutral team arrangements, Agile organisations necessitate that the nature of the HR function evolve from working through traditional architectural models and quickly adopting Agile models of functional excellence. The dearth of literature on understanding and implementing Agile practices in the HR function within enterprises requires a clear examination of the advantages of going Agile for HR. This essay explores the intuitive concept of Agile HR and operating schema, which can develop as a starting point in examining an understanding of how Agile practices in HR can evolve for sustainable enterprises and some challenges that are encountered. CABiT Cabs Radhikas Dilemma
The focus of this case is the human resources management challenges faced by the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) at CABiT Cabs. This case discusses the CHROs dilemma in resolving the challenges. CABiT Cabs operations and expansion are discussed to provide students an overview of the dynamics and challenges of the radio taxi business. In addition, this case explores the weakness in the CABiT business model and the challenges on the human resources front. The case extensively discusses the dynamics of a start-up and the pressures faced by the top management. Finally, the options available to the protagonist to address the challenges are discussed. The dilemma faced by the protagonist in her career front is also discussed in this case. 2024 by World Scientific Publishing Co. and Asia Academy of Management. -
Positive psychology in individual wellness: a thematic illustration of drama as a therapeutic framework in identity transformation
Purpose: The language of participative theatre can be considered immersive in the treatment of its dialectics where participants engage fully with their dichotomies and value systems through physical and psychological exploratory processes as they commit themselves to transformation. Design/methodology/approach: The use of drama as an intervention for challenging recurring mental models of oppressive narratives is used extensively in experiential psychotherapy and as a socio-psychological integrative tool. This experiential methodology allows for an organic development and expression of themes and motifs by encouraging a participant to develop a deeper awareness of how he/she interprets their identity and that of the community in which they function. Findings: This paper aims to review the implications of applying drama-based interventions as positive psychotherapeutic devices to facilitate self-reflection and active-constructive responding in enabling a rendering of positive patterns of thought and purposeful movement towards emotional and physical well-being. Practical implications: Research on the principles of positive psychology suggests that positive emotions lead to therapeutic change. Nurturing positive emotions which are immanent in spirituality, creativity and optimistic perseverance through autonomy and self-regulation enable individual potential to come to meaningful fruition. Originality/value: The paper conceptualizes psychodrama as a framing technique in enabling reflexive action in identity transformation and well-being. 2024, Emerald Publishing Limited. -
An approach to finding customer-value and devising marketing strategies by using data-mining techniques
The digital marketing space is an outcome of the advent of digital age and the booming network technology. The earlier methods of marketing have almost been eclipsed with this digital marketing, which could include any material, information, videos on the internet and social media, etc. The marked distinction between a digital and traditional marketing is that the former uses digital devices in the traditional space. People today consume innumerable products daily and getting to know the customer's interests, their transaction's history, identifying a loyal customer and estimating their lifetime value are all at the very heart of digital marketing. It is here, in this context, that data mining techniques play a key role. This unique blending of data mining techniques with digital marketing will help merchants increase their sales and revenue exponentially. This research paper explores the possibility of finding the frequent item-set generated by a customer while making purchases, tracking their loyalty based on the number of purchases and their frequency and thereafter devising an appropriate marketing strategy for that particular product type. It is the analysis of the product based on the previous marketing experiences of the consumer. This system will boost a merchant's businesses by identifying their loyal customers (customer segmentation), best sold products (product recommendation) and reveal the different marketing strategies that can be adopted by them to reach out to their potential customers and thus increase their sales (Strategy selection/combination). A novel survey for young substellar objects with the W-band filter IV: detection and characterization of low-mass brown dwarfs in Serpens Core
We present spectroscopic confirmation of nine M5 or later Serpens Core candidate members, identified using a combination of CFHT WIRCam photometry and IRTF SpeX spectroscopy. Through spectral fitting, we find that the latest of these nine candidate members is best fit by an L0 spectral standard (in the range of M8L2), implying a mass of ?0.010.035M?. If confirmed as a cluster member, this would be one of the lowest mass Serpens Core objects ever discovered. We present analysis of the physical properties of the sample, as well as the likely membership of the candidate Serpens Core members. 2023 The Author(s) Published by Oxford University Press on behalf of Royal Astronomical Society.
