Digital Gender Gap, Gender Equality and National Institutional Freedom: A Dynamic Panel Analysis
While digital gender gap is a growing field of research in Information Systems (IS), there remains a dearth of research focusing on it. The objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between the digital gender gap in mobile and internet usage and gender equality. Additionally, this study also examines the impact of national institutional freedoms on the aforementioned relationship. Utilizing the theoretical framework of intersecting inequalities and building upon existing literature on the gender digital divide, this study aims to explore the associations between disparities in mobile and internet usage, gender equality, and the extent of national institutional freedoms encompassing economic, political, and media domains. In pursuit of this objective, we undertake a dynamic panel data analysis using publicly accessible archival data at the country level. The results indicate that national institutions have a significant impact on the relationship between the digital gender gap in internet and mobile phone usage and gender equality. Digital image correlation (DIC) for measuring strain in brick masonry specimen using Ncorr open source 2D MATLAB program
This micro-article is focused on the application of DIC in measuring strain for a 2D structural element like brick masonry specimen. Conventional techniques of strain measurements involve devices like strain gauges, LVDTs, dial gauges and extensometers. Even though Commercial DIC packages are available and have been widely used to perform DIC, these setups are quite expensive. In this study a simple DSLR camera along with Ncorr, an open source 2D MATLAB program is used to perform the DIC. Results have also been obtained experimentally by using conventional measuring devices and compared with that of DIC. The results obtained through DIC is well in agreement with that of experiments, and the difference in strain at failure was observed to be 4.7%. Furthermore, the results of this study should encourage researchers to adopt this technique in studies of behaviour and structural health monitoring of brick masonry specimens. 2019 The Authors -

Digital twins' readiness anditsimpacts on supply chaintransparency andsustainable performance
Purpose: Production systems occupy geographically dispersed organizations with limited visibility and transparency. Such limitations create operational inefficiencies across the Supply Chain (SC). Recently, researchers have started exploring applications of Digital Twins Technology (DTT) to improve SC operations. In this context, there is a need to provide comprehensive theoretical knowledge and frameworks to help stakeholders understand the adoption of DTT. This study aims to fulfill the research gap by empirically investigating DTT readiness to enable transparency in SC. Design/methodology/approach: A comprehensive literature survey was conducted to develop a theoretical model related to Supply Chain Transparency (SCT) and DTT readiness. Then, a questionnaire was developed based on the proposed theoretical model, and data was collected from Indian manufacturers. The data was analyzed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural EquationModelling (SEM) to confirm the proposed relationships. Findings: The findings from the study confirmed a positive relationship between DTT implementation and SCT. This study reported that data readiness, perceived values and benefits of DTT, and organizational readiness and leadership support influence DTT readiness and further lead to SCT. Originality/value: This study contributes to the literature and knowledge by uniquely mapping and validating various interactions between DTT readiness and sustainable SC performance. 2024, Emerald Publishing Limited. -
Dimensionally engineered ternary nanocomposite of reduced graphene oxide/multiwalled carbon nanotubes/zirconium oxide for supercapacitors
Three dimensional (3D) hybrid nanoarchitecture of two-dimensional (2D) reduced graphene oxide/one dimensional (1D) multiwalled carbon nanotube and zero-dimensional (0D) zirconium oxide (ZrO2) nanoparticles (rGO/MWCNT/ZrO2) was synthesised by a simple hydrolysis method for high performance supercapacitors. To unlock the properties of individual materials to the maximum, binaries of ZrO2 with GO and MWCNT were also synthesised. The increased wettability, integrated structure, and the synergistic effect of rGO, MWCNT, and ZrO2 in rGO/MWCNT/ZrO2 (GMZ) offer a capacitance of 357 F g?1 at 1 A g?1 with excellent capacitance retention of 98% across 5000 cycles. 1D structure of MWCNT creates an exceptional conductive network with rGO due to the confinement of electrons and ions without disturbing its electronic structure. The intriguing supercapacitor performance of differently dimensioned framework with ZrO2 emphasises the engineered orientation and tuning of a designed environment for its appropriateness, uniqueness, and sensitivity to push up enhanced performance. 2021 Elsevier B.V. -
Dimensions of Brand Equity: A Hybrid Approach
Subjectivity and emotionality of a brand influence the subconscious motivation of customers. It determines brand loyalty, value of the brand, and sustainability of relationship with the customers. This study explores the qualitative dimensions of brand and aims to analyze the impact of qualitative dimensions of a brand on brand equity. In the present study, a sample of 450 respondents were taken who have positive inclination towards Apple iPhone. The variables of the study were extracted using qualitative research while data were processed using SPSS 20 statistical software. The hybrid approach is used in the study as it delivers better result. The proposed model was validated and the results of the study depict that brand friendliness, emotionality, brand trust, and alignment with the brand personality significantly influence brand equity. The study brings important insights about invisible, intangible, and subjective attributes of the brand. The study can be further used to build another inclusive model by incorporating both qualitative and quantitative aspects of the brand. 2022 KJ Somaiya Institute of Management. -
Dimensions of occupational stress impacting turnover intentions amongst BPO employees: An empirical study
Nowadays, many organizations are confronted with the problem of higher level of employee turnover that brings higher replacement costs to these companies. Especially analysing the current situation in the BPO Industry, it is observed that the turnover intention of call centre employees is greater than its expected level and has become a major threat to their existence. Job stress is one of the major factors which tremendously influences this problem. This study mostly focused upon the impact of job stress (JS) on employee turnover intention (Tl) of call centre employees in the BPO industry. Eight five respondents participated in the study. The study was carried out using the survey method. For the survey, the standardized questionnaire of Osipow (1998) for occupational stress and Rajkumar and Karthik Sridar (2015) for turnover intentions were used. The results revealed that scope of occupational stress, that is, role uncertainty/ambiguity, role boundary, role responsibility, and the physical environment had a substantial significant impact on turnover intentions of employees. The dimensions of occupational stress, that is, role insufficiency and role overload had a slight impact on turnover intentions of employees. The regression model stated that there was dependency between occupational stress and turnover intentions. The study suggested that empowerment should be provided at the workplace so that the employees can minimize their inter role distance and can increase job involvement. To make a productive workforce, the sub - variables of job stress like role stagnation, role isolation, and role overload should also be minimized by working more on the person-organization-fit at the time of recruitment and selection. -
Direct ink writing of nickel oxide-based thin films for room temperature gas detection
The rapid industrial growth and increasing population have led to significant pollution and deterioration of the natural atmospheric environment. Major atmospheric pollutants include NO2 and CO2. Hence, it is imperative to develop NO2 and CO2 sensors for ambient conditions, that can be used in indoor air quality monitoring, breath analysis, food spoilage detection, etc. In the present study, two thin film nanocomposite (nickel oxide-graphene and nickel oxide-silver nanowires) gas sensors are fabricated using direct ink writing. The nano-composites are investigated for their structural, optical, and electrical properties. Later the nano-composite is deposited on the interdigitated electrode (IDE) pattern to form NO2 and CO2 sensors. The deposited films are then exposed to NO2 and CO2 gases separately and their response and recovery times are determined using a custom-built gas sensing setup. Nickel oxide-graphene provides a good response time and recovery time of 10 and 9 s, respectively for NO2, due to the higher electron affinity of graphene towards NO2. Nickel oxide-silver nanowire nano-composite is suited for CO2 gas because silver is an excellent electrocatalyst for CO2 by giving response and recovery times of 11 s each. Directional solidification and characterization of InBi1?xSbx crystals
Homogeneous and stoichiometric samples of InBi1?xSbx (x=0, 0.1) crystals have been directionally solidified to explore their suitability for optoelectronic applications. Prior to the growth, the temperature distribution of an indigenously fabricated horizontal furnace has been analysed and optimized to conduct the growth experiments on the basis of phase diagram of the material. Systematic trials have been carried out for several growth runs (48, 60 and 72h) by maintaining an axial temperature gradient of 4, 6 and 8C/cm with the aid of a temperature controller mechanism. The key parameters governing the growth mechanism, composition, phase, and structure of the grown InBi1?xSbx crystals were investigated via X-ray diffraction, scanning electron and atomic force microscopy, Raman and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The presence of secondary phases was ruled out and the average congruent melting points of InBi and InBi0.9Sb0.1 samples were confirmed as 109.43 and 121.13C respectively, by employing differential scanning calorimetric analysis. Investigations on the optical, electrical and mechanical properties of these materials were carried out. Vickers microhardness was found to increase with the Sb incorporation. The average optical band gap computed from the IR transmission spectra was found to be 0.165eV. The results obtained promise that InBi1?xSbx crystals grown by directional solidification are favourable candidates than those grown by other melt methods. 2016, Springer Science+Business Media New York. -
Directional Vector-Based Skin Lesion Segmentation - A Novel Approach to Skin Segmentation
Efficient skin lesion segmentation algorithms are required for computer aided diagnosis of skin cancer. Several algorithms were proposed for skin lesion segmentation. The existing algorithms are short of achieving ideal performance. In this paper, a novel semi-automatic segmentation algorithm is proposed. The fare concept of the proposed is 8-directional search based on threshold for lesion pixel, starting from a user provided seed point. The proposed approach is tested on 200 images from PH2 and 900 images from ISBI 2016 datasets. In comparison to a chosen set of algorithms, the proposed approach gives high accuracy and specificity values. A significant advantage of the proposed method is the ability to deal with discontinuities in the lesion. 2020 World Scientific Publishing Company. -
Dirichlet Feature Embedding with Adaptive Long Short-Term Memory Model for Intrusion Detection System
Intrusion Detection System is applied in the network to monitor the network activity and detect the intruder to protect the user data. Various existing models have been applied in the intrusion detection system and have the limitations of high False Alarm Rate (FAR), overfitting problem and data imbalance problem. In this research, Dirichlet Feature Embedding based Adaptive Long Short Term Memory (DFE-LSTM) model is proposed to improve the efficiency of the intrusion detection. The Dirichlet Feature Embedding (DFE) method is applied to effectively represent the feature to analysis the multi-variate of the input data. The enhanced Adaptive Long Short Term Memory (ALSTM) model is applied to select the optimal parameter for the LSTM model to improve the learning rate. The proposed DFE-ALSTM model is compared to three datasets such as UNSW-NB15, NSL-KDD and Kyoto 2006+ for evaluate the efficiency. The proposed DFE-ALSTM model has the accuracy of 94.32 % and existing NB-SVM has 93.75 % accuracy in intrusion detection on UNSW-NB15 dataset. 2022, Success Culture Press. All rights reserved. -
Dirty Tracks Across the Border: Global Operations of Extraction, Labour and Migration at a Railway Station on the BiharNepal Border
This article is based on an ethnography of the railway siding at Raxaul Junction railway station, a town on the BiharNepal border, which finds itself at the intersection of a massive logistical exercise by China in the form of the Belt Road Initiative, counter-logistical apparatus building by India and incremental hardening of an otherwise open border by Nepal. The article will analyse in detail the intricate network of the labour market that operates at and through the railway siding. It will also trace the origins of commodities used in the cement factories in the industrial corridor of Nepal that are extracted from some of the most deprived regions of India at great human and social costs. Finally, I will describe some of the latest exercises in logistical operations such as containerisation, opening of a new land port, the Integrated Check Post in Raxaul and operationalisation of a new dedicated freight corridor from Vishakhapatnam port to Raxaul, which is reconfiguring the logistical arrangements away from Kolkata and Haldia port and their implications on labour and labour practices. The Raxaul railway siding will be, hence, studied on multiple scales: global, national and local. The article will also try to understand the transformation of this very peculiar border town located on a unique border. This transformation is creating new labour processes, migratory processes and networks, and new modes of production of workers subjectivities and resistance along the global logistical apparatus and supply chains. It will also open up the possibilities of thinking conceptually about South Asian Border Systems. 2024 South Asian University. -
Discontinuities in the trajectory of solar photovoltaic (SPV) technology development in India
The objective of this paper is to understand different phases of solar photovoltaic (SPV) technology in India and the interplay of scientific, technological, economic, and political factors in each of the phases. There are four distinct phases. In the first-phase (1947-1970), SPV technology was recognized as an important source of energy for countries like India. In the second phase (1971-1990), the oil crisis led to the formulation of new scientific and technological initiatives and programs in SPV, but due to a lack of political commitment the initiatives disintegrated. In the third phase (1991-2003), several factors seemed to have undermined the development of SPV sector. Currently in the fourth phase (2003 to the present), India has virtually lost the race for development of photovoltaic technology. Within the context of climate change and resource constraint, India has reformulated its strategy which has taken the form of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission Plan (JNNSM).This paper examines how JNNSM influences indigenous attempts in photovoltaic technology development. DISCOURSE OF DISSENT: LANGUAGING RESISTANCE AND CONSCIOUSNESS IN SUBALTERN LITERATURES DALIT AND BLACK
The paper highlights the pivotal role of language in Afro-American and Dalit movements, emphasizing identity affirmation and resistance to dominant aesthetic structures. It examines languages dynamic role in shaping subaltern experiences and fuelling revolutionary movements. While there is some analysis of the significance of literary trends and intellectual current in these parallel movements, a few scholarly inquiriesintegratethelinguisticandstylisticaspectscomprehensively. Thestudyaddresses this critical gap by comparing and contrasting the selected study of these two movements to see their convergences and divergences. We employ the theoretical framework of Subaltern Studies and Distributed Language (DL) to understand socio-political motifs of pre- and post-production of a particular kind of language. The selected poems are closely read and analysed through Critical Discourse Analysis, with close reading as a key technique. It allows for an exploration of the intricate relationship between the linguistic structure, use of lexical items, emotive use of language, connotational significations, and compositional semantics. While selected Black literature poems experimented with internal morpho-syntax and everyday language, Dalit literature bluntly presented harsh facts using multilingualism, a unique Indian linguistic trait, and everyday vocabulary. Discovering patterns of live birth occurrence before in vitro fertilisation treatment using association rule mining
According to estimates, in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) is credited for the delivery of over 9 million children globally, constituting it to be a highly remarkable as well as commercialised advanced healthcare treatment. Nonetheless, the majority of IVF treatments are now constrained by factors such as expense, access and most notably, labour-intensive, technically demanding processes carried out by qualified professionals. Advancement is thus crucial to maintaining the IVF markets rapid growth while also streamlining current procedures. This might also improve access, cost, and effectiveness while also managing therapeutic time efficiently and at a reasonable cost. IVF has become a renowned technique for addressing problems like endometriosis, poor embryo development, hereditary diseases of the parents, issues with the biological function, problems with counteracting agents that harm either eggs or sperm, the limited capacity of semen to penetrate cervical bodily fluid, and lower sperm count that lead to infertility in humans. Discovery of 2716 hot emission-line stars from LAMOST DR5
We present a catalog of 3339 hot emission-line stars (ELSs) identified from 451 695 O, B and A type spectra, provided by LAMOST Data Release 5 (DR5). We developed an automated Python routine that identified 5437 spectra having a peak between 6561 and 6568 False detections and bad spectra were removed, leaving 4138 good emission-line spectra of 3339 unique ELSs. We re-estimated the spectral types of 3307 spectra as the LAMOST Stellar Parameter Pipeline (LASP) did not provide accurate spectral types for these emission-line spectra. As Herbig Ae/Be stars exhibit higher excess in near-infrared and mid-infrared wavelengths than classical Ae/Be stars, we relied on 2MASS and WISE photometry to distinguish them. Finally, we report 1089 classical Be, 233 classical Ae and 56 Herbig Ae/Be stars identified from LAMOST DR5. In addition, 928 B[em]/A[em] stars and 240 CAe/CBe potential candidates are identified. From our sample of 3339 hot ELSs, 2716 ELSs identified in this work do not have any record in the SIMBAD database and they can be considered as new detections. Identification of such a large homogeneous set of emission-line spectra will help the community study the emission phenomenon in detail without worrying about the inherent biases when compiling from various sources. 2021 National Astronomical Observatories, CAS and IOP Publishing Ltd..
