Publication stress amongst scholars and faculties: a concern of mental health
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the impact of the seemingly entrenched culture of publish or perish on academics and lecturers mental health in academia. From an autoethnographic perspective, personal experiences of stress, anxiety and burnout are articulated and considered in terms of broader system issues within academia. Design/methodology/approach Using personal reflections on publication pressure and combining that with the broader existing literature on mental health in academia, this paper, like the ones mentioned above, has been written with autoethnography as the research mode. Autoethnography is a research method that allows for profoundly exploring personal experiences but frames them in a broader academic context, thereby allowing for a qualitative analysis of academics mental health challenges. Findings The pressure to publish in high-impact journals puts a person under a level of mental health stress that includes feeling anxious, feeling like an impostor and suffering from burnout. Therefore, this very unfitting competitive environment requires institutional support and strategies to mitigate the stress associated with publication. Originality/value This paper offers an autoethnographic view of the mental health difficulties in academia, providing a firsthand account of the emotional toll of academic publishing. This paper fleshes out the burgeoning discourse surrounding mental health within higher education by connecting personal experiences with systemic issues, pointing to changes in culture and structure. 2024 Emerald Publishing Limited -
Contemporary ethnobotany of pastoralism in semi-arid Deccan region-Koppal district, Karnataka, India
The aim of the current study is on ethnobotanical survey carried out in Koppal district of Karnataka, India. Study focused on exploration of traditional knowledge and pastoral practices of particular communities where livestock rearing activity is potent and use of ethnomedicinal plants in daily livelihood. The landscape was diverse in nature covering semi-arid to modest tropical climate, and unique topography encourage for wide range of vegetation useful for caters to feed the livestock. Methodology used for the study by participant observation, interviews, and transect walks, the study identified 48 plant species from 20 families, with Fabaceae and Poaceae being the most prevalent. These families play a vital role in providing nutritious fodder for livestock and sustaining pastoralists livelihoods. The study resulted pastoralists ethno-veterinary knowledge, where specific plants are used to treat cattle ailments and reflecting their deep understanding of traditional herbal remedies. However, the research finding revealed that some traditional knowledge may be diminishing with the younger generation, stressing the importance of knowledge preservation and transfer. The study underscores the potential benefits of integrating traditional practices with scientific research to optimize the selection and utilization of valuable fodder and veterinary plants. For this study, we have selected the service of credit card. For a bank to give a loan or amount on credit basis, the e-bank should make sure if its customers are eligible and can repay their money. Do Frequency of Visit and Length of Stay Alter Perceived Cognitive Destination Image? A Multivariate Approach
The Indian tourism industry is competing with global destinations through effective and lucrative strategies. Strategic destination branding is one of the finest ways of achieving the frontier. This requires careful analysis of tourists' perception and behavior from time to time and inculcate insights on the branding process. Accordingly, this research work is an extract from a major research that focused on whether the behavioral elements such as tourists' frequency of visit and length of stay to/in the destination influenced the perceived cognitive destination image. Even though literary sources indicated the connection between these factors, a void was identified in terms of the aspects of the cognitive image, specifically in the Indian context. Hence, a district in Tamil Nadu that had high tourist attractions and potentialities to serve distinct tourist motives was chosen for the study. The respondents answered a structured questionnaire that contained the necessary questions and statements on tourists' sociodemographic characteristics, frequency of visit, length of stay, and perception of the cognitive image of the destination. The sample size was rounded to 327 after data cleaning. Simple percentage analysis revealed that the highest percentage of tourists were frequent visitors and stayed in the destination for more than a week. This is a good sign for marketers to increase the tourists' inflow and invest in branding strategies. The multivariate analysis of variance technique of SPSS was employed to analyze the data. The results indicated that despite the frequency of visit and length of stay, some of the cognitive belief aspects remained unaltered. Suggestions were made to the marketers on deploying the cognitive image aspects while designing the advertisement campaigns and including the cognitive image elements in the branding process. Theoretical implications were also indicated on the outcome of this research. Also, limitations were stated in terms of the sample size, research location, and other aspects. A research note: More to ponder on the perspectives of sustainability of tourism destinations
This research note focused on tapping the research opportunities on the perspectives of sustainability on tourism destinations. Being a short communication, the research note was created using the literary sources that concentrated only on the sustainability of tourism destinations. Growing tourism attributes; need for positioning destinations in competitive industrial markets; rapid changes in tourism market characteristics, motives, and opportunities; and mainly to sustain the tourism resources for better future consumption and preservation were the primitive forces to undertake the research note, which would facilitate further research works in the arena. The communications highlighted the integral and in-depth aspects such as centrality of sustainability, tourists knowledge about sustainability, tourists responsibility towards sustainability of destinations and natural resources, destination behavior towards sustainability, blending culture and sustainability, and rural destinations and their relevance on a sustainable future. Do travel partners influence the emotional experience of tourists at destinations ? A short communication
This short communication is an extract from a major research work on understanding tourists experience and post touring behaviour and this portion intended to highlight the role of travel partners in tourists emotional experience at a destination. Intensive review of literary sources confirmed that this aspect was untapped and lacked research insights. A structured questionnaire containing the statements measuring tourists emotional experience and travel partners was floated to 400 tourists using convenient sampling technique. The data collection instrument also had questions on tourists personal factors. Sample size was rounded to 370 after removing the illegible responses. A multivariate analysis approach was employed to test whether travel partners influenced tourists emotional experience at a destination. The findings revealed that the emotional aspects such as pleasantness, excitement, calmness, happiness, energetic, friendly, and surprising were influenced by the tourists travel partners. 2021, Associated Management Consultants Pvt. Multifaceted Destination Personality Traits: A Short Communication on Understanding from Tourists Perspective
This short communication is an extract from a major research work on destination branding, and this cull out of analysis focused on the multifaceted destination personality traits that the destinations possess and perhaps how such perceptions of tourists differ based on the selected personal factors. Though there are many studies in the destination branding literature, the evidence regarding the personality traits is still at the stage of progression, and approaches referring to multifaceted personality traits are unseen. After the pilot testing, a structured questionnaire was floated to 400 tourists who visited the selected destinations a district in Tamil Nadu, India, between June 2019 and February 2020, where 327 responses were finalized. The questionnaire had statements measuring the destinations personality traits and other questions on tourists characteristics. Combined mean calculation and multivariate results revealed that two personality traits, welcoming and friendly, were emphasized by the tourists and perceived in common. Also, personality traits such as spiritual and charming were found to be commonly perceived. The mean values also indicated the existence of multifaceted destination personality traits some inherent and some perceived. Marketers and others thereof have been recommended on the branding and advertising strategies based on the outcome of this communication. NLP-based Health Care- Hospital Recommendation Systems with Online Text Reviews by Patients Satisfaction
Recent times, these recommendations based on reviews play a vital role in the service industry. The hospital is assessing its quality of service using these surveys or studies posted in online forums. The ongoing pandemic also played a vital role in making the online review more popular. These statistical data and visualization are informative in representing the views of patient satisfaction towards health service. As the size of data is large and it is of varied size and format it is difficult to get consolidated results. The users share their emotions and feelings through this review. So, it is a challenge to assess the emotions of the patients. Sentiment analysis using machine learning makes our work easy in evaluating the scores visually. The reviews are analyzed using natural language processing (NLP), and the sentiment of the studies is analysed as positive, negative, and neutral using polarity ranking, which in turn is converted as the recommendation system based on patient reviews. This paper aims to propose a new method of recommending the hospital based on the sentiment of the previous user review. The thought of the user is collected from the various hospitals. The proposed (Healthcare Recommendation System) HRS system has nearly 0.5 mean absolute error, which states that the proposed HRS system is significantly effective. 2023 IEEE. -

Network Based Detection of IoT Attack Using AIS-IDS Model
In recent days Internet of Things attained more familiarity. Although it is a promising technology, it tends to lead to a variety of security issues. Conventional methods such as IoT ecosystem based solutions were not suitable to give dilemmas to the system. A new system model called adaptive and intelligent Artificial Immune System (AIS) imitates the process of human being an immune system that consists of eligible properties of this varying environment. Therefore, it enhanced IoT security. Conventionally classifiers such as Random Forest Classifier, Recurrent Neural Network and K-nearest neighbours are used to classify the signals as normal or abnormal and predict malicious attacks. But unfortunately, these classifiers generated a high false alarm rate. Thus, a framework with maximum accuracy and minimum false alarm rate was required. In this work, the AIS model adopts the benefits of the Hopfield Neural Network (HNN) for classification. HNN classifier has a fixed weight, as it cannot be changed for its backpropagation property. This work optimally selects the fixed weight using Fast- Particle Swarm Optimization (F-PSO) and helps to enhance the accuracy of the HNN classifier. This classifier model then differentiates IoT attacks with a high detection rate and normal signal. Three datasets are taken to execute the proposed model and define its accuracy. The proposed Artificial Immune system using HNN for Intrusion Detection System (AIS-IDS) model exhibits 99.8% accuracy for the first dataset and minimum error value. Magnetization induced skyrmion dynamics of a spin-orbit-coupled spinor condensate under sinusoidally varying magnetic field
We explore the spin texture dynamics of a harmonically trapped spin-1 BoseEinstein condensate with Rashba spinorbit coupling and ferromagnetic spin-exchange interactions under a sinusoidally varying magnetic field along the x-direction. This interplay yields an intrinsic spin texture in the ground state, forming a linear chain of alternating skyrmions at the saddle points of the magnetic field. Our study analyzes the spin-mixing dynamics for both a freely evolving and a controlled longitudinal magnetization. The spin-1 system exhibits the Einsteinde Haas effect for the first case, for which an exchange between the total orbital angular momentum and the spin angular momentum is observed, resulting in minimal oscillations about the initial position of the skyrmion chain. However, for the fixed magnetization dynamics, the skyrmion chain exhibits ample angular oscillations about the equilibrium position, with the temporary formation of new skyrmions to facilitate the oscillatory motion. For the case of fixed magnetization, this contrast now stems from the exchange between the canonical and spin-dependent contribution to the orbital angular momentum. The variation in canonical angular momentum is linked to the angular oscillations, while the spin-dependent angular momentum accounts for the creation or annihilation of skyrmions. We confirm the presence of scissors mode excitations in the spin texture due to the angular skyrmion oscillations. 2025 The Author(s). Nanoparticle aggregation kinematics on the quadratic convective magnetohydrodynamic flow of nanomaterial past an inclined flat plate with sensitivity analysis
The study focuses on the aggregation kinematics in the quadratic convective magneto-hydrodynamics of ethylene glycol-titania ((Formula presented.)) nanofluid flowing through an inclined flat plate. The modified Krieger-Dougherty and Maxwell-Bruggeman models are used for the effective viscosity and thermal conductivity to account for the aggregation aspect. The effects of an exponential space-dependent heat source and thermal radiation are incorporated. The impact of pertinent parameters on the heat transfer coefficient is explored by using the Response Surface Methodology and Sensitivity Analysis. The effects of several parameters on the skin friction and heat transfer coefficient at the plate are displayed via surface graphs. The velocity and thermal profiles are compared for two physical scenarios: flow over a vertical plate and flow over an inclined plate. The nonlinear problem is solved using the RungeKutta-based shooting technique. It was found that the velocity profile significantly decreased as the inclination of the plate increased on the other hand the temperature profile improved. The heat transfer coefficient decreased due to the increase in the Hartmann number. The exponential heat source has a decreasing effect on the heat flux and the angle of inclination is more sensitive to the heat transfer coefficient than other variables. Further, when radiation is incremented, the sensitivity of the heat flux toward the inclination angle augments at the rate 0.5094% and the sensitivity toward the exponential heat source augments at the rate 0.0925%. In addition, 41.1388% decrement in wall shear stress is observed when the plate inclination is incremented from (Formula presented.) to (Formula presented.). IMechE 2021. -
Numerical study of Reiner-Rivlin nanoliquid flow due to a rotating disk with Joule heating and non-uniform heat source using Bulirsch-Stoer algorithm
The flow of a Reiner-Rivlin hydromagnetic nanoliquid due to rotating disk in the presence of Joule heating and a non-uniform heat source is investigated. To control the volume fraction of nanoparticles on the surface of a disk, a realistic passive control strategy is used, taking the thermal jump condition into account. Nonlinear governing differential equations are solved numerically using the Bulirsch-Stoer technique and a parametric analysis is performed using graphical representations. Using the Response Surface Methodology (RSM), the interaction effects of the influential parameters on the rate of heat transfer are visualized via three-dimensional surface graphs and contours. Further, the optimum rate of the heat transfer is estimated through the RSM analysis. It is found that the surface drag demotes due to enhancement in the cross-viscosity coefficient. A rise in the space-dependent heat source augments the temperature profile. The heat transfer rate is negatively influenced by the Eckert number. Further, when thermal slip is augmented, the sensitivity of the heat transfer towards the Hartmann number decreases at the rate of 0.2267%, and the sensitivity towards the Reiner-Rivlin fluid parameter decrements at the rate of 0.0554%. 2022 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group. -
Reiner-Rivlin nanomaterial heat transfer over a rotating disk with distinct heat source and multiple slip effects
The thermodynamic features of the Reiner-Rivlin nanoliquid flow induced by a spinning disk are analyzed numerically. The non-homogeneous two-phase nanofluid model is considered to analyze the effect of nanoparticles on the thermodynamics of the Reiner-Rivlin nanomaterial, which also includes a temperature-dependent heat source (THS) and an exponential space-dependent heat source (ESHS). Further, the transfer of heat and mass is analyzed with velocity slip, volume fraction jump, and temperature jump boundary conditions. The finite difference method-based routine is used to solve the complicated differential equations formed after using the von-Karman similarity technique. Limiting cases of the present problem are found to be in good agreement with benchmarking studies. The relationship of the pertinent parameters with the heat and mass transport is scrutinized using correlation, which is further evaluated based on the probable error estimates. Multivariable models are fitted for the friction factor at the disk and heat transport, which accurately predict the dependent variables. The Reiner-Rivlin nanoliquid temperature is influenced comparatively more by the ESHS than by the THS. The Nusselt number is decreased by the ESHS and THS, whereas the friction factor at the disk is predominantly decremented by the wall roughness aspect. The increment in the non-Newtonian characteristic of the liquid leads more fluid to drain away in the radial direction far from the disk compared with the fluid nearby the disk in the presence of the centrifugal force during rotation. The increased thermal and volume fraction slip lowers the nanoliquid temperature and nanoparticle volume fraction profiles. 2021, Shanghai University. -
The economic impact of floods on the plantation sector: a study of selected districts in Kerala
The people of Kerala have suffered the worst natural calamity in the form of heavy flood in 2018 and this continued for a week. The flood and the landslide had created a havoc in the agricultural sector of Kerala. The worst affected sector in the vagary of nature was the plantation sector. The industry lost around Rs. 3.382 crore due to heavy floods (CDS). The floods and the landslide had a major impact on the major planation crops including rubber, tea, coffee and cardamom. Among the different districts, Wayanad was the worst affected district along with Kottayam and Pathanamthitta. In the given context, this study is an attempt to analyse the economic impact of floods in the plantation sector in Kerala. The study found that the farmers are facing the worst financial crisis due to low price and high cost of production. The major problems faced by farmers are the inadequacy of assistance, reduction in yield and lack of pure water, delay in getting support, repayment of the loan and so on. 2023, World Research Association. Smart Certificates Using Blockchain: A Review
When making job offers, it is usual practice for businesses to check applicants academic credentials. The organization that issued the certificate must authenticate it for the employer to ensure that it is genuine. Because of the lengthy process involved in certificate verification, the selection process takes longer overall while establishing the legitimacy of a certificate. To address this issue, blockchain provides a verified distributed ledger along with a cryptography mechanism to thwart academic credential counterfeiting. The Blockchain also provides a standardized platform for document access, storage, and verification that takes the least amount of time. Detection of DoS Attacks Using Machine Learning Based Intrusion Detection System
Conventional intrusion detection systems are not always sufficient due to the increasing sophistication and frequency of Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks. This work presents a novel solution to this problem by leveraging machine learning techniques to increase the precision and efficacy of real-time intrusion detection. The system keeps a careful eye on network traffic patterns, looking for any irregularities that would point to a denial-of-service attack. An Intrusion Detection System (IDS) that utilizes machine learning technologies - specifically, neural networks and support vector machines - allows for real-time adaptation to new attack patterns. A combination of rigorous simulations and real-world testing provides empirical support for the IDS's quick detection and mitigation of DoS threats.
