Smart Vehicle Recognition System on Indian Roads Under Rainy Conditions
Recognition of vehicles under the different weather condition is very challenging. This work aims to recognize vehicles on Indian road in accordance with their visibility. It is important to recognize the surround roadside objects, particularly front and rare vehicles to avoid the accidents. Especially in raining conditions vehicle recognition is rate traffic surveillance cameras get decreases due to water droplets. Hence, we proposed a method for recognition of vehicles on road in rainy condition using image processing in computer vision techniques to improve the recognition rate. In the proposed method, an instance segmentation technique is used to segment the vehicles in Indian road scene and the visual noise and texture features are analysed and computed in the segmented images to recognize the vehicles more accurately in rainy conditions. By integrating the visual noise features with the texture feature and instance segmentation, the accuracy of vehicle recognition is improved. The experimental findings demonstrated that the suggested approach could more accurately predict the visibility of vehicles in rainy weather conditions. Smart Villages and Cities: A Sustainable Imperative for Emerging IndiaA Journey from Painful to Thoughtful
Smart cities and villages refer to making cities and villages more beautiful and fuller of all the requirements that can make the lives of the people living in the cities and villages more comfortable and satisfactory. On 25th June 2015, this initiative was launched by the Central government, and the time limit for completion was 5 years, but due to the pandemic situation, it was further extended by the central government, and this year, all the states are required to submit their respective report about the progress in this regard. In India, 70% of the total population lives in Villages and only 30% are part of urban areas. In India, villages should be a combination of smart and digital villages. If the work is done at the grassroots level, it will 436solve many problems, such as migration, employment, poverty, education, and medical facilities. Sustainability of the environment is one of the basic requirements for humankind globally. In 2015, the United Nations introduced Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to address environmental and economic issues and challenges and to provide and promote better and more sustainable pathways for the future generation globally. It is not a matter of concern for a group of countries, but every single species is affected by environmental issues. Owing to the dense population, infrastructure, buildings, and commercialization, cities are more prone and susceptible to the effects of climate change and natural disasters. while increasing the sustainability of urbanization processes is necessary to protect the environment, reduce the risk of disasters, and address climate change, building urban resilience is essential to preventing losses in terms of people, society, and the economy. Goal 11 of the SDGs deals with Sustainable Cities and Communities. Focusing more on urbanization in such a way that comprehensively controls and plans the development of cities and villages using different technologies and sciences to make them smart cities and villages. By ensuring that smart cities and villages will help us in many ways, they can control the migration of the human population from one city to another in search of employment and basic needs. In India, the government should focus on creating smart villages rather than smart cities. Around 69% of the population lives in the villages, and they do not have the basic amenities like electricity, clean drinking water, roads, transportation, and a source of employment. 2026 Jenny Stanford Publishing Pte. Smart-Beta Strategies in India: Analysis of Performance and Exposure of BSE Strategy Indices
The study examines the performance and exposure of BSE strategy indices and also compares them between the pre and post-covid periods. Though the monthly returns of some of the indices were significant, no indices outperformed the Sensex across the sample periods. On the risk-adjusted terms, quality, momentum, and low-volatility indices offered a significant alpha in the pre-covid, but post covid, all indices failed. The indices, except momentum, performed better in post covid compared to pre-covid but are insignificant due to the post covid high volatility. Momentum and value indices offered a predominant performance in the pre and post covid periods respectively, while the dividend index failed in both periods. While the market factor is the prominent driver of return for the indices, the size effect on their performance is insignificant across the sample periods. The indices, irrespective of their pre-covid exposure, gained significant exposure to loser stocks post covid. Though the exposure varied between pre and post covid, the change in the exposure was not significant except for the quality and dividend indices. They offer limited intended factor exposure and some extent of unintended exposure, as in the case of the momentum index in the pre-covid period. Indian Institute of Finance.. -

Smartphone addiction among post-graduate management students: The Indian experience
This study aimed to recognize the patterns of smartphone addiction among post-graduate management students in the North-East Region of India. The validated Smartphone Addiction Proneness Scale (SAPS) was administered to the respondents, and two different methods, namely SAPS method and median-based scoring method, were used to measure smartphone addiction. The measurement results of smartphone addiction show evidence that the student respondents are not vulnerable to smartphone addiction. Principal component analysis with promax rotation (KaiserMeyerOlkin measure = 0.84; Bartletts test of sphericity = 0.000) demonstrated four crucial components that signify smartphone addiction which are habitual issues (issues relating to regularly or repeatedly doing or practicing something), withdrawal anxiety, tolerance, and usage outcomes. Gender was not seen to play a significant role in these components. The duration of use of a smartphone was seen to have a significant relationship with the component of habitual issues but not with the other components. 2023 The Author(s). Smartphone application-based colorimetric fish freshness monitoring using an indicator prepared by rub-coating of red cabbage on paper substrates
This work developed a simple, easy-to-prepare, and inexpensive indicator (R-Paper) based on rub-coating of red cabbage on readily available paper substrates to detect the freshness of fish in out-of-lab settings. A single-step rub-coating method was used to incorporate anthocyanins on paper substrates, without the extraction of the compound from red cabbage. The preparation of the indicator and its usage is quick and does not require additional chemicals, personnel expertise, or laboratory facilities. The functional colorimetric interface created by directly rubbing red cabbage on paper was used for fish quality monitoring, which displayed a naked-eye detectable color change from purple (for fresh fish) to blue (for spoiling fish) and then to blue-green (for spoiled fish), corresponding to total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) and pH changes. To provide a user-friendly quantitative analysis of this color change, we used the free Android software Color Grab to quantify the color using L*, a*, b*, and RGB indices. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first report on an indicator prepared by rub-coating red cabbage onto paper-based substrates for fish spoilage monitoring through smartphone-based analysis. To verify that the R-Paper indicator performs on a par with the indicators using extracted anthocyanins, its performance was compared with indicators prepared using anthocyanins extracted from red cabbage (AR-Paper). Naked-eye analysis, simple preparation, ease of use, low cost, and free smartphone-based analysis make the R-Paper indicator an appropriate food quality indicator in resource-limited areas. 2023 Elsevier B.V. -
Smartphone based indoor localization and tracking model using bat algorithm and Kalman filter
In recent days, accurate localization becomes essential for enabling smartphone-based navigation to attain maximum accuracy in the construction of the real world.Fingerprint-based localization is the widespread solution to achieve and assure effective performance. In this study, a new fingerprint-based localization model using a bat algorithm (BA) is presented stimulated by the echolocation nature of microbats. The presented model adapts BA for estimating the location information. Initially, the presented model applies a Bayesian-rule based objective function. Then, the BA is used for improving the accuracy and analyzing the effects of the initial position of the bats on the localization outcome. For mitigating the estimation error, the Kalman filter is employed for updating the initially determined position using the BA for tracking purposes. The experimental analysis indicated an improvement in real-time performance and decrease in computation complexity. The presented model also obtained maximum localization accuracy with minimum localization error over the compared methods. 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC part of Springer Nature. -
