Attribute optimization to improve breast cancer prediction using machine learning techniques
Breast cancer (BC) arises when cells grow out of control. It affects women more than men. Seeking cancer treatment can be both costly and time-consuming, with test results spanning from a few hours to several weeks. The duration of these tests depends on the number of attributes within the dataset. This research paper endeavors to optimize the dataset attributes and find the accuracy of the optimized dataset. The primary goal is to reduce features using recursive feature elimination to minimize the time taken for the test result. This work discusses the machine learning technique and the random forest (RF) algorithm, which helps determine the parameter accuracy on the Wisconsin BC diagnostic dataset. The method achieves an accuracy of 96.49% with only eighteen attributes. It has aided the healthcare industry in finding BC in less time and improving the treatment. Forecasting stock market volatility in India - Using linear and non - Linear models
Volatility models and their forecasting performance attracted the interest of many economic agents, especially for financial risk management. The role of economic agents is to decide which one will be best model for forecasting volatility. This paper examines the modeling and forecasting performance of BSE Sensex daily stock market returns over the period from 1 July 1997 to 31 October 2008, by using simple Random Walk, GARCH, EGARCH and TGARCH models. The out-of-sample forecasts are evaluated by using MAE, RMSE, MAPE and Theil - U Statistics. The result suggests the standardized residual of white noise series strongly rejects the null hypothesis for GARCH model and capture the serial dependence and inherent nonlinearity series. Moreover, Random walk model dominates the forecasting performance and it is considered as the best model followed by the TGARCH model. International Economic Society. -

Causality between public expenditure and economic growth: The indian case
This study investigates the causal nexus between public expenditure and economic growth in India using cointegration approach and error correction model. The analysis was carried out over the period 1973 to 2012. The Cointegration test result confirms the existence of long-run equilibrium relationship between public expenditure and economic growth in India. The empirical results based on the error-correction model estimate indicates one-way causality runs from economic growth to public expenditure in the short-run and long-run, supporting the Wagner's law of public expenditure. -
Do futures and options trading increase spot market volatility in India? the case of S&P CNX Nifty
The exponential generalised autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity (EGARCH) model followed by standard GARCH (1, 1) model were employed to investigate the impact of introduction of futures and options trading on the volatility of the underlying spot market in India. The empirical analysis was conducted for the daily closing price returns of S&P CNX Nifty spot index from 1st January, 1996 through 31st October, 2008. The empirical results reveal that the spot market volatility has been declined after the introduction of futures and options trading in India. Besides, the empirical results indicate that the impact of recent news has a greater impact on the spot market changes following the onset of futures/options trading. At the same time, the persistence of volatility shocks has been declined in the post-derivatives scenario indicating increased efficiency of the Indian spot market. Hence, the present study suggests that the introduction of futures and options trading have improved the speed and quality of information flowing in the spot market. This enhances the overall market depth, increases market liquidity and ultimately reduces informational asymmetries and therefore compresses spot market volatility in India. Exchange rate volatility and export growth in India: An ARDL bounds testing approach
This paper empirically investigates the impact of exchange rate volatility on the real exports in India using the ARDL bounds testing procedure proposed by Pesaran et al. (2001). Using annual time series data, the empirical analyses has been carried out for the period 1970 to 2011. The study results confirm that real exports are cointegrated with exchange rate volatility, real exchange rate, gross domestic product and foreign economic activity. Our findings indicate that the exchange rate volatility has significant negative impact on real exports both in the short-run and long-run, implying that higher exchange rate fluctuation tends to reduce real exports in India. Besides, the real exchange rate has negative short-run and positive long-run effects on real exports. The empirical results reveal that GDP has a positive and significant impact on India's real exports in the long-run, but the impact turns out to be insignificant in the short-run. In addition, the foreign economic activity exerts significant negative and positive impact on real exports in the short-run and long-run, respectively. 2013 Growing Science Ltd. An empirical investigation of foreign direct investment and economic growth in SAARC nations
Purpose This paper aims to investigate the causal nexus between foreign direct investment (FDI) and economic growth in SAARC countries. Design/methodology/approach Johansen's cointegration test was employed to examine the long?run relationship between foreign direct investment and economic growth in SAARC countries. Besides, the vector error correction model (VECM) was employed to examine the causal nexus between foreign direct investment and economic growth in SAARC countries for the years 1970?2007. Finally, the impulse response function (IRF) has been employed to investigate the time paths of log of foreign direct investment (LFDI) in response to one?unit shock to the log of gross domestic product (LGDP) and vice versa. Findings The Johansen cointegration result establishes a long?run relationship between foreign direct investment and gross domestic product (GDP) for the sample of SAARC nations, namely, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The empirical results of the vector error correction model exhibit a long?run bidirectional causal link between GDP and FDI for the selected SAARC nations except India. The test results show that there is a one?way long?run causal link from GDP to FDI for India. Research limitations/implications This paper employed annual data to examine the causal nexus between FDI and economic growth. Therefore, researchers are encouraged to test the FDI?growth relationship further by using quarterly data. Practical implications The SAARC nations should adopt effective policy measures that would substantially enlarge and diversify their economic base, improve local skills and build up a stock of human capital recourses capabilities, enhance economic stability and liberalise their market in order to attract as well as benefit from long?term FDI inflows. Originality/value This paper would be immensely helpful to the policy makers of SAARC countries to plan their FDI policies in a way that would enhance growth and development of their respective economies. 2011, Emerald Group Publishing Limited -

Causality among Energy Consumption, CO2 Emission, Economic Growth and Trade: A Case of India
The present study attempts to examine the causal nexus between energy consumption, CO2 emissions, economic growth and trade in India using the Perron (1989) unit root test, Gregory and Hansen (1996) cointegration test and vector error-correction model (VECM). The study results exhibit a long-run relationship between energy consumption, CO2 emissions, economic growth and trade in India. The empirical results confirm that energy consumption influences the economic activity in the short run, implying that higher rate of economic growth is driven by consumption demand for energy in the economy. This is also well in consistence with the findings of Paul and Bhattacharya (2004) in the Indian context. Further, the study detects one-way causation that exists from energy use to CO2 emission and trade, and CO2 emissions to economic growth in the short run. 2015 Indian Institute of Foreign Trade. -

IoT-Driven Dynamic Behavior Intervention Model for Sustainable Hygiene Practices: Insights from Household Water Consumption
IoT-enabled technologies have advanced so that smart sensor systems can observe and recognize human behavior in various contexts, including energy consumption and healthcare, with remarkable efficiency and effectiveness. One example is using the Internet of Things (IoT) technology to better comprehend human water consumption behavior and establish and maintain clean environments. Static models have typically been used to model the behavior intervention process throughout time. While these static approaches perform adequately when predicting general human behavior, they fall short when tracking and reacting to shifts in behavior in IoT settings. The authors of this study proposed a dynamic behavior intervention model to forecast the hygiene-related water-use habits of individual households. This model takes its cues from the structure equation model method and the notion of control engineering, which originated in the expanded theory of planned behavior (ETPB). The current ETPB dynamic behavior model with system parameter estimation using an artificial neural network (ANN)is assessed for its intervention trend using a residential water use case study. It has been shown that the ETPB dynamic model helps the process of intervening in peoples behavior. The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025. -
Breaking the Cycle of Child Labor in Dehradun: A Multidimensional Study on Causes and Challenges
Child labor remains a critical issue, particularly in developing nations like India, where millions of children are deprived of their right to education and safe childhood due to poverty, marginalization, and inadequate policy implementation. This study explores the underlying causes, occupational patterns, and harmful consequences of child labor in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. It highlights that children are primarily engaged in agriculture, domestic work, and small industries, often facing physical and mental exploitation. Despite existing legal frameworks and initiatives like the Child Labor (Prohibition and Regulation) Act and National Child Labor Projects, enforcement challenges persist. The study uses cross-sectional and triangulation methods to analyze data from 42 child laborers and suggests a holistic approach, including poverty alleviation, quality education, community empowerment, and rehabilitation services, as key to combating child labor. It emphasizes the need for multi-stakeholder participation to ensure child rights and reduce labor dependency among vulnerable families. Copyright 2026, IGI Global Scientific Publishing.
