Herein, we have developed Ni-based efficient bifunctional electrocatalysts using apple seeds (that contains cyanogenic glycosides) as the precursor for nitrogen and carbon. With tuning the temperature, we were able to optimize the nitrogen doping up to ?3 at.%. The optimized electrocatalyst catalyses the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) process with muted peroxide generation (for 0.7500.1 V the % HO2 ? generation ?3 - 2%), preferential 4e? reduction pathways (n ? 3.93 to 3.98 in 0.750.1 V range) and electron transfer via inner-sphere electron transfer mechanism which ensures the maximum utilization of instituted active centres owing to the direct interaction of reactant species. Alike to ORR, the superior oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance with smaller Eonset, EJ=10, Tafel slope and enduring accelerated stability test advocates its potential as a bifunctional oxygen electrocatalyst. Moreover, smaller potential gap ?E (EJ10_OER - E1/2_ORR) of 0.845 V further warrants the energy efficient OER/ORR process. A porotype of Al-air battery system using our catalysts as oxygen electrode and chocolate wafer as anode material is well capable of powering the light emitting diodes. In this work, we have explored the efficacy of poly(vinyl alcohol)bismuth oxide composites as radiation shielding materials. Poly(vinyl alcohol) composites with different wt % (050) of bismuth were prepared by a simple solution casting technique. Structural and thermal characterization of these samples was carried out using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). TGA revealed the enhanced thermal stability of these composites. AC conductivity measurements and optical spectroscopy were used to analyze their electrical behavior. The composites showed low conductivity, and the energy gap obtained also showed their tendency to be insulators. The radiation attenuation properties were investigated using X-ray (5.895 and 6.490 keV) and ?-ray (59.54 and 662 keV) transmission measurements. The shielding efficiency of the composites increased with filler wt %. The 40 wt % composites exhibited mass attenuation coefficients of 122.68 and 93.02 cm2/g at photon energies of 5.895 and 6.490 keV, respectively, while the 50 wt % composites showed 1.57 and 0.092 cm2/g at photon energies of 59.54 and 662 keV, respectively. The effective atomic number quantifies the probability of interaction of radiation with matter. The effective atomic number of the composites calculated by the direct method was in good agreement with the theoretical value obtained from Auto-Zeff software. 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Due to urbanization and climate change, rice production is declining, posing a threat to the increasing food demand. For this, a modified technique of priming is used to enhance plant vigor. In the present study an endogenous rice cultivar was treated with two different iron salts for 72 h and grown for 14 days in nutrient solution. This increased the iron content of the samples which further escalated the photosynthetic efficiency and carbon assimilation in the treated plants. Photosynthesis being correlated to nitrogen assimilation, nitrogen assimilation intermediates and protein content were also elevated in treated plants. Plants showed no symptoms of stress as evident from low malondialdehyde content and increased antioxidant enzymes activity. We find an offset at zero dust column density (E(B ? V) = 0) of 240 18 photon units in the FUV (1539 and 394 37 photon units in the NUV (2316 . This is approximately half of the total observed radiation with the remainder divided between an extragalactic component of 114 18 photon units in the FUV and 194 37 photon units in the NUV and starlight scattered by Galactic dust at high latitudes. The optical constants of the dust grains were found to be a = 0.4 0.1 and g = 0.8 0.1 (FUV) and a = 0.4 0.1 and g = 0.5 0.1 (NUV). It becomes necessary to perform this process with high efficiency and reliability, availability, maintainability, and dependability (RAMD) is the methodology to analyze the performance. The failure and repair rates of the subsystems has been considered exponentially distributed. ChapmanKolmogorov differential equations are derived using Markovian birthdeath process and several measures like mean time between failures, mean time to repair and dependability ratio are derived. The sensitivity analysis of reliability of the plant has also been performed. RAMD investigation shows that: availability of system is 0.952177, reliability of the system after 20days is 0.2018 and after 60days 0.00823, maintainability of the plant is 0.999948, dependability ratio is 0.9541 and raw sewage sump is the most sensitive subsystem of the plant with reliability 0.382893. This work is projected to support as an informative exertion in steering a RAMD analysis of physical processing unit and vary few work is available in literature related to the performance features of physical processing units of the sewage treatment plants. Findings: The study successfully tested an integrated KM model in an Indian scenario. The study found that the KM strategy, enablers and processes had a significant positive relationship with the organizational performance. An appropriately designed KM strategy significantly influenced the KM enablers and KM process. KM enablers nurtured in an organization positively impacted the KM process. Furthermore, the KM process partially mediated the relationship between the KM strategy and organizational performance, and partially mediated the relationship between KM enablers and organizational performance. One school of thought argues that when multinational firms relocate production facilities abroad, it reduces the likelihood of concurrent investments in the home country, resulting in reduced domestic output. In this case, the outward FDI would harm the domestic investments. The other argues that the outward FDI would be more advantageous for the domestic investment when firms internationalize for entering into new markets and/or to import intermediate goods, wherein outward investments boost the returns in the home country, leading to a positive impact of outward FDI on domestic investment. The influence of the outward FDI on the domestic investment of any country or a region state cannot be generalized as each country is unique, and the drivers of investments would differ for different countries at the different development phases of each country. Design/methodology/approach: The proposed framework is tested through analysis of a sample of 102 internationalized SMEs of the engineering industry in the Bangalore city region of India. Findings: Results highlight that CEOs age and educational background moderates between early internationalization and performance in the Indian SME context. Practical implications: Overall results facilitate in leveraging the decision-makers capabilities to successfully formulate and strategize their international marketing efforts to achieve higher performance. Originality/value: The study enriches the importance of CEO attributes in influencing the early internationalization and degree of internationalization in the context of an emerging economy where studies are limited. 2019, Emerald Publishing Limited.
