Sustaining livelihoods and culture through tourism development: The case of sriniketan in West Bengal, India

The rural area of Sriniketan in West Bengal, India is full of cultural embodiments that can not only serve as a base to develop tourism but also generate sustainable livelihoods. However, the Sriniketan region suffers from chronic poverty and its unique culture is getting depleted thanks to the lack of awareness and interest among locals. With the help of the DFID Sustainable Livelihood Framework (DFID-SLF), this study tries to analyse the contributions that culture-based tourism can make towards generating sustainable livelihoods at Sriniketan. A modified SLF has been prepared with an added element of cultural capital as a contribution to the existing livelihood literature and guiding sheet for future practitioners. Based on the primary (in-depth interviews of fifteen households and five key respondents) and secondary data collected, this paper concludes that tourism development in Sriniketan can not only aid its cultural preservation but also generate an alternate source of livelihood and thereby, making both (culture and livelihoods) sustainable 2023, IGI Global. First introduced in 2002 by British Programmer Nick Pelling, the term gamification has gained massive momentum in the last decade with extensive applications in teaching and learning (Hebebci & Selahattin, Current Studies in Social Sciences 2021:174, 2021). In its simplest form, gamification refers to the adoption of principles and design elements of various games in nongame situations (Deterding et al. From game design elements to gamefulness: Defining gamification. In Proceedings of the 15th international academic MindTrek conference: Envisioning future media environments (pp. 915), 2011). Further, the interaction between the students and technological interventions is rising, opening new avenues for innovative strategies like gamification to promote effective teaching and learning (Kapp, The gamification of learning and instruction: Game-based methods and strategies for training and education. Wiley, 2012). In the context of tourism, works of (Nair, B. B. Endorsing gamification pedagogy as a helpful strategy to offset the COVID-19 induced disruptions in tourism education. Journal of Hospitality, Leisure, Sport & Tourism Education, 30, 100362, 2022.) and Aguiar-Castillo, Herndez-Lez, De SaPez, and Pez-JImez (Journal of Hospitality, Leisure, Sport & Tourism Education, 27, 100267. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jhlste.2020.100267, 2020) provide insights into the various facets of gamification as a tool for teaching and learning. However, these works hardly address the emerging issues in adoption, implementation, and barriers that have been dealt with in this chapter. Against this backdrop, the first section of this paper ventures into the various implications of gamification in the field of tourism teaching and learning. Next, taking cues from significant land marking studies, this work lists the factors responsible for making gamification an effective teaching and learning tool in tourism. Lastly, attempts have been made to underline the elements that may pose challenges in the path of the rise of gamification as a teaching and learning tool. This work can be primarily classified as a conceptual paper with a systematically drawn inductive approach. Majority of the paper has been drafted based on the review of critical works derived from the search of keywords such as gamification and tourism and teaching and learning on major search engines such as Scopus, Web of Science, and JSTOR. The authors conclude that gamification as a teaching and learning tool in tourism education is still its necesent stages of implementation, and there are an equal number of challenges that need to be addressed before it (gamification) becomes a mainstream tool in tourism teaching and learning. The Whispered Speech Emotion Recognition (SER) presents special challenges because it does not involve the vibration of vocal folds and less acoustic information, which makes it more difficult to identify the nuances of emotions and gender-related peculiarities than in normal speech. The research presents a new system, HybridOpti-GenderNet, of concurrent whispered speech emotion and gender recognition. It is a framework of six stages are data collection, pre-processing, feature extraction, feature selection, gender detection, and emotion recognition (ER). A Red Butterfly Optimization Algorithm (RBOA), which uses Butterfly Optimization Algorithm (BOA) and Red Kite Optimization Algorithm (ROA) by adjusting the weight to achieve optimal feature selection, is proposed to achieve a better balance between exploration and exploitation. Gender identification is carried out with the proposed HybridOpti-GenderNet, a new hybridization of Bi-LSTM and DCNN, and ER is accomplished with the help of the Attention-Enhanced Hybrid Belief Network (AHBN) that incorporates Deep Belief Network (DBN), Feedforward Neural Network (FNN) & a tailor-made attention mechanism to detect delicate emotional signals. The innovativeness of the given work is that the gender-informed recognition is combined with a high-level optimization and a hybrid deep learning pipeline that enhances the robustness of the analysis of whispered speech significantly. The system was tested in Python and tested on the GeWEC and EMO-DB data, showing superior performance in cases of privacy preservation, noisy conditions, and real-life human-computer interaction. Accurate documentation of meetings is essential for effective communication, decision-making, and accountability across various settings, including corporate environments, academic discussions, research collaborations, project reviews, and multi-stakeholder forums. Manual note-taking is often error-prone and time-consuming, highlighting the need for automated solutions. This paper proposes an LLM-based approach for generating structured Minutes of Meeting (MoM) from audio recordings. The method begins with audio transcription using the Vosk model, followed by grammatical and punctuation recovery to enhance text readability. The preprocessing step cleans and segments the transcribed text. Named Entity Recognition (NER) is applied to identify relevant entities such as names, dates, and organizations. The method then segments the conversation into topical sections aligned with the meeting agenda. A Large Language Model (LLM), named OpenAI, has been used to produce abstractive summaries. An action item extraction module identifies tasks, responsible individuals, and deadlines. A speaker analysis component highlights principal participants in decision-making processes. The system organizes the final output into a structured format, such as JSON or PDF, for easy access and distribution. With the growing institutionalisation of dark tourism into national heritage discourses and tourism economies, the issue of what level of state intervention is most appropriate has become an urgent and critical point of discussion. Although the subjects of visitor motivations, site interpretation, and ethical dilemmas have been well covered in the existing literature, the role of government in dark tourism has not received sufficient attention. The chapter fills that gap by discussing the diversity of state interventions in dark tourism through a content analysis of pertinent literature. A conceptual framework is developed that indicates five key areas of intervention in dark tourism governance: cultural heritage policy, security and risk regulation, mobility control, heritage protection, and community engagement. These are connected to two clusters of intended governance outcomes: sociocultural goals such as peacebuilding and reconciliation, and experience-focused aims including ethical interpretation and visitor management. Instead of taking a normative stance on whether state involvement is inherently either excessive or insufficient, the chapter advocates for a more situated and reflexive approach. Despite growing discourse on smart tourism and AI applications in travel, limited scholarly attention has been given to understanding the reasons for the growth of AI usage and the various facets of its application, specifically within Islamic pilgrimage. This includes the absence of a developed framework for innovative inventions. This paper addresses the research gap by exploring how AI and IoT technologies can transform halal tourism management, focusing on the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages. The paper deals with three objectives: (1) To understand the reasons for the growth of AI usage in halal tourism with special reference to Islamic Pilgrimage, (2) to examine the various facets of AI usage in Islamic pilgrimage, and (3) to develop the framework for Smart inventions in Islamic pilgrimage. Methodologically, this is a conceptual paper grounded in a secondary literature review. It incorporates a thematic content analysis of both academic publications and gray literature. With this approach, the researchers were able to gain a holistic view of how AI can intersect with Islamic pilgrimage and halal tourism. The results are demonstrated through the ideation of the FSIIP framework. In many chemical engineering processes, a chemical reaction between a foreign mass and the fluid does occur. These processes find relevance in polymer production, oxidation of solid materials, ceramics or glassware manufacturing, tubular reactors, food processing, and synthesis of ceramic materials. Therefore, an exploration of homogeneous first-order chemical reaction effects on heat and mass transfer along with entropy analysis of Jeffrey liquid flow towards a stretched isothermal porous sheet is performed. Fluid is conducting electrically in the company of transverse magnetic field. Variations in heat and mass transfer mechanisms are accounted in the presence of viscous dissipation, heat source/sink and cross-diffusion aspects. The partial differential equations system governing the heat transfer of Jeffery liquid is reformed to the ordinary differential system through relevant transformations. Numerical solutions based on Runge-Kutta shooting method are obtained for the subsequent nonlinear problem. A parametric exploration is conducted to reveal the tendency of the solutions. The present study reveals that the Lorentz force due to magnetism can be used as a key parameter to control the flow fields. Entropy number is larger for higher values of Deborah and Brinkman numbers. It is also established that the concentration species field and its layer thickness of the Jeffery liquid decreases for a stronger chemical reaction aspect. Purpose: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the recurring and lethal gastrointestinal tract disease rankings as the primary cause of worldwide morbidity and mortality. In general, the tumour node metastasis (TNM) and Dukes classification assist in diagnosis, prognosis and treatments of CRC along with haematological examinations and tumour demographic characterisations in patients. Methods: The present investigation is carried out on clinically acknowledged sixty-five CRC patients based on haematological findings and are sorted into stages using TNM and Dukes. The present study is to find the association between haematological findings, demographic characters, differentiation position, lymph node invasion and tumour node metastasis in CRC patients in accordance with their age. Results: We observed significant (p < 0.05) nexus between lymph node metastasis and tumour node metastasis on the basis of tumours differentiation demographic positioning and age of the individuals. Conclusion: Earlier location tracing and medicinal treatment or surgery lessen the chance of CRC morbidity and mortality along with prolonging survival rate via prognostic factors and disease position determination. 2020, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.

Transmission Jeopardy of Adenomatosis Polyposis Coli and Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase in Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the globally prevalent and virulent types of cancer with a distinct alteration in chromosomes. Often, any alterations in the adenomatosis polyposis coli (APC), a tumor suppressor gene, and methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene are related to surmise colorectal cancer significantly. In this study, we have investigated chromosomal and gene variants to discern a new-fangled gene and its expression in the southern populations of India by primarily spotting the screened APC and MTHFR variants in CRC patients. An equal number of CRC patients and healthy control subjects ((Formula presented.)) were evaluated to observe a chromosomal alteration in the concerted and singular manner for APC and MTHFR genotypes using standard protocols. The increasing prognosis was observed in persons with higher alcoholism and smoking ((Formula presented.)) with frequent alterations in chromosomes 1, 5, 12, 13, 15, 17, 18, 21, and 22. The APC Asp 1822Val and MTHFR C677T genotypes provided significant results, while the variant alleles of this polymorphism were linked with an elevated risk of CRC. Chromosomal alterations can be the major cause in inducing carcinogenic outcomes in CRCs and can drive to extreme pathological states. 2021, SAGE Publications Ltd. All rights reserved.

The development of cyber-physical agricultural systems (CPASs) has created new opportunities for precision farming, sustainable food production, and efficient use of resources. CPAS leverages advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML) to collect, analyze, and utilize data to improve farming practices. However, the implementation of CPAS requires the use of various tools and frameworks to ensure seamless integration and communication between different components of the system. One of the key tools for CPAS is sensors. This chapter focuses on key tools for CPAS, such as sensors that can collect data on environmental factors, including temperature, humidity, soil moisture, and nutrient levels, enabling farmers to monitor crop growth and identify issues. The use of drones equipped with cameras and sensors can provide a birds eye view of farmland, allowing farmers to detect issues that are difficult to detect otherwise. Frameworks such as the Open Platform Communication Unified Architecture (OPC-UA) provide a standardized approach to communication between different devices and systems in agricultural systems. OPC-UA enables secure and efficient data exchange between sensors, machines, and other components, enabling the integration of various tools and frameworks within CPAS. This framework ensures that different components of CPAS can communicate seamlessly, leading to more efficient and effective farming practices. Another critical framework for CPAS is the decision support system (DSS). DSS utilizes AI and ML algorithms to analyze data from various sources and provide recommendations to farmers. For example, DSS can provide guidance on crop selection, planting dates, irrigation schedules, and pest management. Both the safety and efficiency of our present transportation systems might benefit greatly from the implementation of vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs). In this book chapter, the author investigates the significance of wireless technology in improving VANET security. Before discussing the numerous wireless technologies that form the backbone of VANET security, this chapter digs into VANET architecture and communication paradigms. These can be anything from tried-and-true standards like IEEE 802.11p (WAVE) to forward-thinking concepts like 5G cellular networks ability to link vehicles to other objects. Collision avoidance, cooperative adaptive cruise control, junction collision alarms, and pedestrian safety are just some of the real-world applications of V2V communication that have been shown. The importance of security mechanisms, such as authentication, encryption, and data integrity, is discussed at length in this chapter. The narrative also delves into the fascinating intersections of VANETs with autonomous cars and AI, all while tackling issues like spectrum allocation, scalability, and privacy concerns. Case studies shed light on the concrete effects of VANET safety installations, showing how they may reduce accident rates and ease traffic congestion.
