Rethinking human values
Just as there are many cultures within the world, so also are there many practices, beliefs, myths, values, and traditions within each culture. These unique ways of being can often present challenging frames of reference that may prevent a whole perspective from being attained. This essay examines the contextual formation of culture and the fundamentals intricate to the search for universal values. An illumination is also provided upon some of the major and extreme forms of cultural practices that may pose difficulty in achieving such a goal. -
Rethinking growth for long-term welfare: A case for circular economy transition in the tourism sector in Nepal
The construct of Circular Economy (CE) is emerging as an alternate to the existing linear "extraction-use-disposal" economic model. CE concept emphasises the significance of sustaining the value of resources like materials and products within the economy, lessening waste generation, thereby enhancing sustainability. The pandemic crisis has offered a rare prospect to pause and ruminate on crucial anxieties about the future prospects of the tourism industry, together with issues related to overall resilience, undesirable environmental and social impacts, opportunities, and risks amidst the emerging sustainability challenges. Over-tourism, GHG emissions and biosphere degradation problems will not automatically recede post-pandemic when the 'normalcy' returns. Principally, these challenges have to be dynamically addressed so as to rebuild a tourism industry that is economically and environmentally sustainable and more resilient. This paper aims to understand the need and implications of the shift of the tourism industry to the circular economy model. An attempt is made to examine the prospect of Nepal transitioning into a CE so that there is a well-balanced and restorative accomplishment from economic and environmental standpoints. 2024 Nova Science Publishers, Inc. Rethinking Fate or Maktub in Paulo Coelhos The Alchemist through Taoism
Brazilian author Paulo Coelhos The Alchemist is believed to be a work that inspires readers to reflect upon their dreams and pursue them. While it is a matter of discussion as to what makes the novel so, one of the apparent reasons is the compelling presence of philosophical ideas like Taoism. However, the presence of Taoismthe idea of going with the universes flow - contradicts Coelhos use of the idea of fate or Maktub present in the same work. While Maktub stands for a pre-determined destiny, this research paper closely analyses how Taoist principles in The Alchemist contradict the authors use of the concept of fate or destiny through the actions and dialogues of notable characters. 2023 The Author(s). Retention of a Community Healthcare Worker for Three Decades in a Rural and Remote CHC of Bolba in Jharkhand: A Case Study
The dearth of healthcare personnel in rural areas is a global problem. Even developed countries are struggling to meet demand. In such circumstances, identifying a health worker who worked for a single CHC for three decades necessitates deeper exploration. Individual case studies were employed to investigate the phenomenon, then thematically evaluated using QAD Miner Lite following a lengthy telephonic interview. The study's findings revealed that a rural upbringing, social class, economic factors, and behaviourism influenced the altruism of Community Healthcare Workers (CHWs). As a result, external and internal factors influenced CHW to service rural areas. But extrinsic factors worked in tandem with intrinsic factors to influence CHW's willingness to serve the rural areas. Rural healthcare shortages exist despite the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) execution. A substantial amount of the population's health is entrusted to 20 percent of health workers, who account for disproportionately 75.05 percent of rural health outcomes. The Electrochemical Society -

Resveratrol as a therapeutic choice for traumatic brain injury: An insight into its molecular mechanism of action
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a global health challenge owing to its high incidence rate, long-term sequelae, and complex pathophysiology with limited available treatment options. Food supplement rich in polyphenols has shown promising health benefits in TBI. Resveratrol, a phytoalexin stilbenoid commonly found in many plants, including grapes, nuts, and berries, is endowed with several health-promoting effects. In this review, the pathophysiology of TBI and the underlying mechanism for Resveratrol-induced neuroprotection in TBI has been discussed. The spectrum of injuries in TBI, including the acute primary injury, and delayed secondary injury often leading to other forms of neurodegenerative disorders, indicates the dysregulation of multiple pathways following TBI and its complex pathophysiology. Despite poor bioavailability and solubility, Resveratrol as a therapeutic in neurological illnesses, including TBI, is attributable to its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, detectable level in the brain, and the lack of unfavorable toxicity. Substantial preclinical evidence has associated Resveratrol with protection against TBI and subsequent secondary brain injury as it has significant anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic properties, emphasizing its promising scope in the treatment of TBI. 2022 -
Resume Ranking and Shortlisting with DistilBERT and XLM
The research presented in this paper offers a solution to the time-consuming task of manual recruitment process in the field of human resources (HR). Screening resumes is a challenging and crucial responsibility for HR personnel. A single job opening can attract hundreds of applications. HR employees invest additional time in the candidate selection process to identify the most suitable candidate for the position. Shortlisting the best candidates and selecting the appropriate individual for the job can be difficult and time-consuming. The proposed study aims to streamline the process by identifying candidates who closely match the job requirements based on the skills listed in their resumes. Since it is an automated process, the candidate's individual preferences and soft skills remain unaffected by the hiring process. We leverage advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) models to improve the recruitment process. Specifically, our emphasis lies in the utilization of the distilBERT model and the XLM (Crosslingual Language Model). This paper explores the application of these two models in taking hundreds of resumes for the job as input and providing the ranked resumes fit for the job as output. To refine our approach further, two types of metrics for resume ranking, such as Cosine similarity score and Spatial Euclidean distance, are used, and the results are compared. Intriguingly, distilBERT and XLM result in different sets of top ten ranked resumes, highlighting the nuanced variations in their ranking approaches. 2024 IEEE. -
Restructuring of Layout Designs and Operational Processes in Production Lines of Manufacturing Companies Globally to Compete Post Pandemic Conditions
Manufacturers globally faced various challenges in terms of sustainability and continuous production in the past COVID conditions and it showed the importance of redesigning the existing processes. All new manufacturing processes should be designed by considering the pandemic situation in the future. The present study is focused on restructuring the layout of an existing production unit in order to cope with any such eventualities. Various models that are suitable for adoption in post-pandemic, have been proposed and their efficiencies are compared in this paper. The authors also investigate how such changes will impact the efficiency of the existing line. Key parameters considered in this paper are the total production hours, line efficiency, balancing delay, and production rate. 2023 ACM. -
Restrained geodetic domination of edge subdivision graph
For a connected graph G = (V,E), a set S subset of V (G) is said to be a geodetic set if all vertices in G should lie in some u-v geodesic for some u,v S. The minimum cardinality of the geodetic set is the geodetic number. In this paper, the authors discussed the geodetic number, geodetic domination number, and the restrained geodetic domination of the edge subdivision graph. 2022 World Scientific Publishing Company. -
Restrained geodetic domination in the power of a graph
For a graph G = (V,E), S ? V(G) is a restrained geodetic dominating set, if S is a geodetic dominating (gd) set and never consists an isolated vertex. The least cardinality of such a set is known as the restrained geodetic domination (rgd) number. The power of a graph G is denoted as Gk and is obtained from G by making adjacency between the vertices provided the distance between those vertices must be at most k. In this study, we discussed geodetic number and rgd number of Gk. 2024 Author(s). -
Restrained geodetic domination in graphs
Let G = (V,E) be a graph with edge set E and vertex set V. For a connected graph G, a vertex set S of G is said to be a geodetic set if every vertex in G lies in a shortest path between any pair of vertices in S. If the geodetic set S is dominating, then S is geodetic dominating set. A vertex set S of G is said to be a restrained geodetic dominating set if S is geodetic, dominating and the subgraph induced by V - S has no isolated vertex. The minimum cardinality of such set is called restrained geodetic domination (rgd) number. In this paper, rgd number of certain classes of graphs and 2-self-centered graphs was discussed. The restrained geodetic domination is discussed in graph operations such as Cartesian product and join of graphs. Restrained geodetic domination in corona product between a general connected graph and some classes of graphs is also discussed in this paper. 2020 World Scientific Publishing Company. -
Restrained domination in signed graphs
A signed graph ? is a graph with positive or negative signs attatched to each of its edges. A signed graph ? is balanced if each of its cycles has an even number of negative edges. Restrained dominating set D in ? is a restrained dominating set of its underlying graph where the subgraph induced by the edges across ?[D: V\D] and within V\D is balanced. The set D having least cardinality is called minimum restrained dominating set and its cardinality is the restrained domination number of ? denoted by ?r(?). The ability to communicate rapidly within the network is an important application of domination in social networks. The main aim of this paper is to initiate a study on restrained domination in the realm of different classes of signed graphs. 2020 Anisha Jean Mathias et al., published by Sciendo 2020. -
Responsible Service of Alcohol: An Evaluation of Policies and Practices of Five Star Hotels in Karnataka
Networking and socializing has been a human practice since ancient times and alcohol has been the social lubricant ??yesterday, today and also tomorrow. While we cannot trace its origin to a particular culture or civilization, its role and impact has been recorded in ancient texts and literature across cultures. A person can get drunk for a few rupees or spend a few lakhs for the same. It is consumed across social classes- by a daily wage worker to a business tycoon. The only thing differentiating the two being the price he has paid for the drink and the glass he is having it from. Even though the price and glass differs the effect it has on a person is more or less the same. This research and study is based on the belief that alcohol in itself is not the major cause of all the issues and troubles it is blamed for, but it is the nature and manner in which it is treated, consumed and served. This study is based on the latter aspect, ????the service of alcohol???. As mentioned in the previous paragraph, alcohol is a social lubricant and bars and restaurants have always been a popular place for socializing. The people who deal with the sale and service of alcoholic beverages along with the management and owners have a moral responsibility to ensure that alcohol is both served and consumed responsibly. This practice of Responsible Beverage Service or Responsible Service of Alcohol might look simple and easy on paper but to practice it, is a different story! It involves the support and approval of all the stakeholders. The owner and management on their part have to compromise on the earnings from the extra sale alcohol. The server has the additional responsibility of checking that his customers are not getting intoxicated and that he is following all the rules and regulations associated with alcohol service and above all the consumers too have to support and accept responsible service practices by the establishment. This study has looked into the practice of Responsible Beverage Service followed in the bars and restaurants in five star hotels, in the state of Karnataka. The initial study involved a review on early research and study on Responsible Beverage Service, Its impact on controlling alcohol abuse and intoxication, Responsible Beverage Service practices and various other dimensions and issues associated with Responsible Service of Alcohol. VII This research has focused on both the consumer as well as the server???s perspective on Responsible Beverage Service. The primary data for the study was collected from both consumers and hotels through a structured questionnaire, followed by data analysis using the appropriate tool. The findings give an insight and understanding into the acceptance of responsible beverage service in the state. What works and what needs to be improved? The practices which has the most impact in controlling alcohol abuse and answers to other questions associated with the study. -
Responsible and sustainable lending by Financial institutions: a literature Review
The subject of the study is to use an extensive literature review to evaluate how academic research on corporate social responsibility (CSR) is developing. The journals and papers in the ISI Web of Science, SCOPUS, and Taylor&Francis databases served as the foundation for this literature review. The purpose of the study is to highlight essential papers, referenced journals importance, and potential future study directions. Determinants that impact the CSR performance of an organization are governance, profitability, firm characteristics, and minimum expenditure. The impact of CSR has been measured using accounting-based market value, risk, excess return on a stock, and moral capital. All the variables are discussed with strongly supported literature and then concluded by giving a framework. The novelty of our study is that it analyses new research trends while concentrating on the CSR research frontiers. The conclusion identifies possible areas for scientists to further develop their expertise, including sustainable and responsible financing and ESG strategy. Sachdeva S., Ramesh L., 2023. -
Response surface optimization of heat transfer rate in Falkner-Skan flow of ZnO ? EG nanoliquid over a moving wedge: Sensitivity analysis
In this work, the optimization of the heat transfer rate in the Falkner-Skan flow of ethylene glycol-based ZnO nanoliquid passing through a moving wedge is performed using the Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The experimentally estimated nanoliquid properties are included in the calculations for realistic modeling. The heat transfer rate is optimized through the use of the numerical experiment based on the face-centered central composite design (CCF). The sensitivity of the heat transfer rate is evaluated using the obtained quadratic model. The impact of the relevant parameters is displayed graphically using the finite difference method-based solution procedure and analyzed in detail. The interactive impacts of the key parameters are also evaluated using three-dimensional surface plots. The maximum sensitivity of the heat transfer rate is towards the moving wedge parameter. The optimized rate of heat transfer occurs at the high levels of the radiation aspect, moving wedge parameter, and nanoparticle volume fraction. The interactive impacts of the nanoparticles volume fraction and the Falkner-Skan index were found to be non-linear. The movement of the wedge was found to have a significant impact on both the flow field and the rate of heat transfer. 2021 Elsevier Ltd
