Biogenic ZnO Nanoparticles Derived from Garcinia gummi-gutta Leaves: Synthesis, Characterization and its Multifaceted Applications
The current study focused on the bioreduction synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles using Garcinia gummi-gutta leaf extracts. The UV-vis analysis of the nanoparticles has reported the formation of an SPR peak at 379 nm. The functional groups taking part in the reduction reaction were analyzed using the FTIR technique and the average crystalline size of ZnO nanoparticles were found to be 22.27 nm from XRD measurements. The SEM and TEM images revealed the hexagonal shape of the nanoparticles with an average size 72.78 nm and 71.91 nm, respectively. Further, the synthesized nanoparticles were reported to be efficient degradation reactive textile dyes. The photodegradation results reported 92-100% degradation of the reactive dyes within 80-320 min. The antibacterial efficacy of the nanoparticles was investigated and the MIC of the nanoparticles was found to be 100 g/mL. The synthesized ZnO nanoparticles have exhibited significant cytotoxic effects on the MCF and HEP-G2 cell lines. 2024 Asian Publication Corporation. All rights reserved. -
Time resolved spectroscopy of a GRS 1915 + 105 flare during its unusual low state using AstroSat
Since its disco v ery in 1992, GRS 1915 + 105 has been among the brightest sources in the X-ray sky. Ho we ver, in early 2018, it dimmed significantly and has stayed in this faint state ever since. We report on AstroSat and NuSTAR observation of GRS 1915 + 105 in its unusual low/hard state during 2019 May. We performed time-resolved spectroscopy of the X-ray flares observed in this state and found that the spectra can be fitted well using highly ionized absorption models. We further show that the spectra can also be fitted using a highly relativistic reflection dominated model, where for the lamp post geometry, the X-ray emitting source is al w ays very close to the central black hole. For both interpretations, the flare can be attributed to a change in the intrinsic flux, rather than dramatic variation in the absorption or geometry. These reflection dominated spectra are very similar to the reflection dominated spectra reported for active galactic nuclei in their low flux states. 2024 The Author(s). -
Integrating rod-shaped nickel molybdate@polypyrrole matrix for sustainable adsorptive removal of organic dye: Kinetics, isotherm, and thermodynamics study
Water pollution presents a significant global challenge that impacts the environment. The release of industrial effluents significantly contributes to this. Adsorption studies offer a sustainable and cost-effective solution to efficiently remove organic pollutants from water. The current study comprises a polypyrrole/nickel molybdate composite for the effective adsorption of organic dyes, such as methylene blue, from aqueous solutions. The catalyst has been comprehensively characterized using various techniques, including XRD, FE-SEM, FT-IR, HR-TEM, XPS, BET, TGA, zeta potential, and DLS analysis. Adsorption studies demonstrate up to 97% removal efficiency in 60 min. This study also evaluates the impact of various parameters, such as temperature, pH, dye concentration, and quantity of the catalyst, on the adsorption efficiency. The R2 value of 0.99 that is obtained in the kinetics study suggests the suitability of the adsorption process toward pseudo-second-order kinetics. The adsorption isotherm study reveals that the adsorption follows Freundlich's adsorption isotherm. The maximum adsorption capacity of the study is found to be 17.76 mg/g. Investigations into thermodynamic study give a ?H value of ?19.21 J/mol K, indicating the exothermic behavior, and ?G of ?6.95 KJ/mol, suggesting the spontaneity of the composite during the adsorption process. These results demonstrate the potential of the developed material as an effective adsorbent for removing organic dyes from water sources. 2023 Wiley Periodicals LLC. -
Artificial Butterfly Optimizer Based Two-Layer Convolutional Neural Network with Polarized Attention Mechanism for Human Activity Recognition
Human activity recognition (HAR) is a focal point of study in the realms of human perception and computer vision due to its widespread applicability in various contexts, such as intelligent video surveillance, ambient assisted living, HCI, HRI, IR, entertainment, and intelligent driving. With the prevalence of deep learning techniques for image classification, researchers have shifted away from the labor-intensive practice of hand-crafting in favor of these methods in HAR. However, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) face challenges such as the receptive field problem and limited sample issues that remain unsolved. This paper introduces a two-branch convolutional neural network for HAR classification, incorporating a polarized full attention method to address the aforementioned issues. The Artificial Butterfly Optimization (ABO) is employed for optimal hyper-parameter tuning. The proposed network utilizes twobranch CNNs to efficiently extract data, simplifying convolutional layers' kernel sizes to enhance network training and suitability for low-data settings. Feature extraction effectiveness is improved by implementing the one-shot assembly method. To amalgamate feature maps and provide global context, an enhanced full attention block called polarized full attention is utilized. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed model in detecting human behaviors on the LoDVP Abnormal Behaviors dataset and the UCF50 dataset. Furthermore, the suggested model is adaptable to incorporate new sensor data, making it particularly valuable for real-time human activity identification applications. The Recall is 100 for the 1st dataset, 94 for the 2nd dataset, and 100 for the 3rd dataset, respectively. Nexus of Monetary Policy and Productivity in an Emerging Economy: Supply-Side Transmission Evidence from India
Monetary policy and its transmissions have been debated by various schools of thought. The purpose of this paper is to empirically tests whether monetary policy has supply side effect influencing Indian economys total factor productivity. This study uses ARDL model to ascertain the long run relationship between monetary policy proxies and total factor productivity (TFP). Cointegration tests reveal that total factor productivity has a relationship with all of the monetary policy proxies. The ARDL results reveal a negative relationship between TFP and some monetary policy proxies in the short run, but a positive effect in the long run. These results showcase the possible supply side transmission of monetary policy in India, which can help in determining an optimal policy so as to augment TFP, an important driver of economic growth. The study only focusses on the Indian economy and spillover effects of other Asian economies on Indias TFP can also be examined. A Mixed-Methods Study of Training in Evidence-Based Practice in Psychology Among Students, Faculty, and Practitioners in India and the United States
The current mixed-method study in India and the United States assessed understanding of what evidencebased practice in psychology (EBPP) is, how EBPP training and implementation occurs, and perceived barriers and needs related to EBPP training. Graduate students (India, n = 282; United States, n = 214), faculty (India, n = 24; United States, n = 67), and practitioners (India, n = 24; United States, n = 49) were surveyed, and focus groups with students (India, n = 31; United States, n = 12), faculty (India, n = 10, United States, n = 9), and practitioners (India, n = 28; United States, n = 17) were held. Individuals across countries and across the professional continuum were only somewhat aware of EBPP, largely equating it to just using empirically supported treatments. In both the United States and India, EBPP training was largely infused across the curriculum, though a sizable percentage of participants did report only limited exposure to EBPP training. Participants perceived themselves as engaging in EBPP. The biggest barriers to EBPP training (largely shared across countries) were hesitancy about EBPP, investing the time in training, and being wedded to a single school of thought. Indian participants also noted a limitation in primarily relying on data from Western countries. EBPP training needs identified included desire for greater flexibility within EBPP, receiving more theoretical foundation in EBPP, and more applied EBPP training. Results demonstrated advances in EBPP training in the past 15 years since the release of American Psychological Associations task force report but also provide areas for growth in training, specifically surrounding balancing research evidence with clients cultural context as well as ways to promote lifelong EBPP learning. 2024 American Psychological Association -
Performance of DSSC with green synthesized and thermodynamically sintered Bi-phase TiO2 with various sensitizers
The production of green and clean energy in the current era is heavily reliant on light harvesting through the use of solar cells. A successful fabrication of any of the components of Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC) through an easy, environmental, and economic-friendly method would be an added advantage in promoting the production of green and clean energy. With this in mind, this paper highlights the green synthesis of materials for the preparation of photo-anodes as well as sensitizers. Apart from the routine synthesis method, this paper presents a new perspective that enhances inter-particle connections by providing an optimum calcination temperature (thermodynamic sintering) during the preparation procedure. The best calcination temperature for the preparation of photo-anode material is initially optimized by comparing the device output performance between synthetic and natural dyes. Further improvement in device performance is achieved through TiCl4 (Titanium tetrachloride) post-annealing treatment on the optimized photo-anodes. The improvement in performance of these optimized photo-anodes is checked and confirmed with different natural, synthetic, and cocktail sensitizers. The best natural dye-sensitized solar cell (NDSSC) device showed an efficiency of 4.65 % and the dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) device showed an efficiency of 5.78 %. This confirms the suitability of these green-synthesized TiO2 nanopowders as a promising material for photo-anode preparation that could work well for both NDSSC and DSSC. 2024 Elsevier B.V. -
Synthesis and characterization of 4-nitro benzaldehyde with ZnO-based nanoparticles for biomedical applications
Globally, cancer is the leading cause of death and morbidity, and skin cancer is the most common cancer diagnosis. Skin problems can be treated with nanoparticles (NPs), particularly with zinc oxide (ZnO) NPs, which have antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties. An antibacterial activity of zinc oxide nanoparticles prepared in the presence of 4-nitrobenzaldehyde (4NB) was also tested in the present study. In addition, the influence of synthesized NPs on cell apoptosis, cell viability, mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), endogenous reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, apoptosis, and cell adhesion was also examined. The synthesized 4-nitro benzaldehyde with ZnO (4NBZnO) NPs were confirmed via characterization techniques. 4NBZnO NPs showed superior antibacterial properties against the pathogens tested in antibacterial investigations. As a result of dose-based treatment with 4NBZnO NPs, cell viability, and MMP activity of melanoma cells (SK-MEL-3) cells were suppressed. A dose-dependent accumulation of ROS was observed in cells exposed to 4NBZnO NPs. As a result of exposure to 4NBZnO NPs in a dose-dependent manner, viable cells declined and apoptotic cells increased. This indicates that apoptotic cell death was higher. The cell adhesion test revealed that 4NBZnO NPs reduced cell adhesion and may promote apoptosis of cancer cells because of enhanced ROS levels. 2023 Wiley-VCH GmbH. -
The influence of social media on investment decision-making: examining behavioral biases, risk perception, and mediation effects
The increasing use of social media platforms for investment-related information and advice has raised concerns about the impact of social media on investment choices. In this paper, we investigated the role of behavioral biases and risk perception in investment decisions. Specifically, this paper aims to explore the impact of social media on these factors and their influence on investment decisions. To achieve this aim, we investigated the existing works on the impact of social media on investment decisions, including its influence on behavioral biases and risk perception. We also collected data through an online survey from individual investors who use social media for investment-related information and advice. The survey measured their investment decisions, behavioral biases, risk perception, and the impact of social media on these factors. The valuable insights offered by this paper shed light on how social media affects the decisions made regarding investments and extend our understanding of the role of behavioral biases and risk perception in this context. Our results indicate that social media has a significant impact on the investment-related behaviors and perceptions of individual investors. Specifically, social media can exacerbate the effects of behavioral biases, such as herding and overconfidence bias, and influence risk perception. Moreover, the paper highlights the significance of managing social media use to make rational investment decisions. The paper's results can help individual investors make more informed investment decisions by understanding the impact of social media on their investment-related behaviors and perceptions. Moreover, the paper provides useful information to policymakers and financial regulators to develop guidelines for the responsible use of social media in the investment industry. Sustainable Management of Exotic Fish Biodiversity in Karnataka: Status, Challenges, and Threats
Fish biodiversity, a significant part of the aquatic ecosystem, has been studied widely in India. However, the distribution and diversity of fish species have not been well-researched at the state and/or regional levels. Karnataka is bestowed with 8% of the countrys water resources, which are under extreme pressure because of unregulated population growth, biological invasion, and developmental requirements. Since the middle of the nineteenth century, India has been introducing alien species to its water bodies. Currently, 13.6% of the fish diversity in India is exotic and has been established voluntarily or involuntarily for various purposes. The establishment of invasive alien fishes negatively influences native fish communities around the globe. In general, most publications present the latest status of ichthyofauna in several regions of Karnataka; however, there is no up-to-date documentation on strategic environmental developments and unforeseen challenges, such as invasive alien species (IAS). Chatbot Service Quality in Banking : Analyzing Indian Banking Customer Perceptions and Influence on Customer Satisfaction and Value
Purpose: The study has two objectives: first, to determine the quality of chatbot services provided by Indian banks; second, to assess the influence of chatbot service quality variables on customer satisfaction and customer value. Research Methodology: The study used a quantitative methodology, selecting individuals at random from a group of Indian banking clients. We used a questionnaire to collect data from the selected sample as part of a causal research investigation. We made use of SPSS and Python for this analysis. Customer satisfaction and value were taken into account as the dependent variables in our study. The seven elements of service qualityfunctionality, convenience, security, design, customization, enjoyment, and assurancemade up the independent variables. Findings: According to this study, client satisfaction and value were significantly shaped by the quality of the services provided. Customers value was significantly impacted by functionality and enjoyment, and their satisfaction was greatly influenced by assurance, design, and personalization. The unexpected negative impact assurance had on customer value is noteworthy and calls for more research. Practical Implications: In the highly competitive banking industry, this research has important ramifications for banks. It highlighted how important service quality is, which led banks to give priority to customer pleasure and think about making strategic changes. Banks could obtain a competitive advantage by improving the quality of their services, improving chatbot services, and implementing a customer-centric strategy by utilizing the research findings that have been presented. Our research helped banks evolve with the needs of their customers in mind, enabling them to gain credibility, repeat business, and long-term success in the ever-changing banking services market. Originality/Value: This study examined how consumers in Indian banks perceive the value and satisfaction of chatbot services and how they use them. Perfectionism and self-compassion among emerging adults: The role of disciplining experiences
Although the influence of disciplining experiences on a variety of personality factors has been studied, there is less clarity on how disciplining experiences influence the traits of perfectionism and self-compassion in individuals. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between different domains of perfectionism and self-compassion, as well as the influence of specific aspects of disciplining experiences, such as parental warmth and punishment experiences, on perfectionism and self-compassion. In this study, a quantitative cross-sectional correlational design was used. A total of 220 Indian emerging adults from the city of Bangalore were surveyed via convenience sampling. The following scales were administered: Disciplining Experiences Measure, Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, and Self-Compassion Scale. The results showed that (1) Self Compassion has a significant positive relationship with Perfectionism; (2) Punishment experience has an influence on Other-oriented and Socially Prescribed Perfectionism; (3) Disciplining Helped positively predicted Self-oriented Perfectionism; and (4) Parental Warmth positively predicted Self-compassion in individuals. The findings contribute to the literature emphasizing the influence of disciplining experiences on ones self and personality, as well as the potential benefits of self-compassion-based interventions. Twitter sentiment analysis on online food services based on elephant herd optimization with hybrid deep learning technique
Twitter is a social media stage, making it a valuable resource for learning about peoples opinions, feelings, and thoughts. For this reason, experts came up with methods to analyse the tone of tweets and determine whether they were favourable or negative. This article aims to assist businesses, and especially app-based meal delivery businesses, in conducting competitive research on social broadcasting and transforming social broadcasting data into data production for decision-makers. In this analysis, we compared Swiggy, Zomato, and UberEats. Customers tweets about all these brands are obtained using R-Studio, and a deep learning-based sentiment examination approach is functional on the retrieved tweets. The pseudo-inverse learning autoencoder is able to provide feature extraction in the form of an analytic solution after pre-processing, without resorting to many iterations. In this research, we suggest framework for combining the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Bi-directional Long Short Term Memory (Bi-LSTM) models. ConvBiLSTM is used, which is a word embedding model that uses numerical values to represent tweets. The CNN layer takes the feature implanting as input and outputs lower features. In this instance, elephant herd optimization is used to fine-tune the Bi-LSTM weights. Among the three firms, the results indicate that Zomato got the most positive feedback (29%), followed by Swiggy (26%), and UberEats (25%). Zomato also had fewer bad reviews than Swiggy and UberEats, with only 11% of users having a poor experience. In addition, tweets were evaluated for unfavourable views against all three meal delivery services, and suggestions for improvement were offered. Sexual health and safety of adolescents with intellectual disability: Challenges and concerns among special educators in India
Sexual health education among adolescents with intellectual disabilities is an area of concern among parents and educators. Special educators play a vital role in teaching sexual health and safety to their students with disabilities. The present study explores special educators' concerns in teaching sexual health among adolescents with intellectual disabilities. The participants included 35 special educators working with adolescents with intellectual disabilities in India. Summative content analysis of the data collected using a semi-structured interview schedule highlights the neglect of the issues related to sexual health among adolescents with disabilities. Special educators reported the challenges in providing sexual health education. Teachers lacked skills in imparting sexual health education. Developmentally and culturally appropriate sexual health education can help adolescents with a disability learn healthy life skills. Rationality of the Terrorist Group and Governments Policy: A Game Theoretic Approach
The two ideas of the rationality of terrorist organisations and the costly leader game are used in this paper to construct a game theoretic model. It is an addition to the literature on terrorism and leader-follower games, in which the government and a terrorist organisation are the two players. Terrorist group can be rational or irrational. In case it is rational, it does the cost-benefit analysis and is open to negotiation. Only in this case, the government chooses to not spend on counter-terrorist measures. The irrational group has lexicographic preferences, which means that it prefers a successful attack to attract attention and recruits at the beginning or finish of its operation. Consequently, it is assumed that the irrational group will always attack. the irrational terrorist organisation has the option of either choosing not to mimic the rational group or choosing to do so at a psychological cost. Although the irrational group dislikes imitation. It seeks to duplicate the rational group so that the government withdraws and cuts back on spending on counter-terrorism. A costly leader model is set up in the paper, where the government can incur a cost to gather information about the type of terrorist group. Fossil fuel derived GQD as a photosensitizer in dye-sensitized solar cells
Solar energy is an abundantly available renewable source, and several generations of photovoltaic cells have been developed for harnessing it. Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC) are viable and potent solar energy harvesters. Sensitizer, a vital part of DSSC, has been researched for years. Alternatively, fossil fuel-Lignite is one of the world's least explored energy sources. Unfortunately, it has been used as a fuel for power generation and tagged as a pollutant. Therefore, in this study, we use lignite-derived graphene quantum dots (GQD) as a DSSC sensitizer and attempt to add value. GQDs with varied bandgaps were obtained and used as sensitizers, and a maximum PCE of 2.87 % was obtained. Additionally, GQD sensitizers were exposed to UV light for 48 h, and the fabricated device exhibited 2.90 % efficiency, showing the photostability of GQDs. Furthermore, the device showed a higher Rrec of 166.57 ?, substantiating the better performance of DSSC. Thus, sensitizers derived from lignite showed a novel use for feedstock previously used for combustion. 2023 Elsevier B.V. -
An efficient adaptive reconfigurable routing protocol for optimized data packet distribution in network on chips
The deadlock-free and live lock-free routing at the same time is minimized in the network on chip (NoC) using the proposed adoptive reconfigurable routing protocol (ARRP). Congestion condition emergencies are avoided using the proposed algorithm. The input packet distribution process is improved among all its shortest paths of output points. The performance analysis has been initiated by considering different configuration (N*N) mesh networks, by sending various ranges of data packets to the network on chip. The average and maximum power dissipation of XY, odd-even, Dy-XY algorithm, and proposed algorithm are determined. In this paper, an analysis of gate utilization during data packet transfer in various mesh configurations is carried out. The number of cycles required for each message injection in different mesh configurations is analyzed. The proposed routing algorithm is implemented and compared with conventional algorithms. The simulation has been carried out using reconfigurable two-dimensional mesh for the NoC. The proposed algorithm has been implemented considering array size, the routing operating frequency, link width length, value of probability, and traffic types. The proposed ARRP algorithm reduces the average latency, avoids routing congestion, and is more feasible for NoC compared to conventional methods. 2024 Institute of Advanced Engineering and Science. Catalyzing the Affordability of Perovskite Solar Cells with Aluminum-Modified Cubic Titania
As a key component of perovskite solar cells (PSCs), the electron transport layer (ETL) extracts charges efficiently. While TiO2 is widely recognized as a superior electron transport material (ETM) for its numerous advantages, the morphological limitations of spherical TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) lead to significant electron losses. Therefore, as an alternative to nanospheres, TiO2 nanocubes are synthesized through a solvothermal route and employed as ETM in the low-cost carbon electrode-based perovskite solar cells (CPSCs). The structural, morphological, and optical properties of the TiO2 nanocubes (NCs) are studied and compared with TiO2 nanospheres (NSs) in detail. The device possessing cubic TiO2 achieved a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 10.6% with a current density (Jsc) of 21.79 mA/cm2. Recognizing that the oxygen vacancies in cubic TiO2 are lower than in spherical TiO2, it is inferred that further reduction of oxygen vacancies in cubic TiO2 could enhance the current collection. Hence, to get rid of the oxygen vacancy (which acts as an electron trap) in the cubical TiO2, aluminum (Al3+) is incorporated into its matrix. A comprehensive analysis of its impact on structural and optical behavior follows. In addition to its cost-effectiveness and conductive nature, it has been observed that the stable form of Al3+ replaces the unstable Ti3+ (which acts as a trap state), thereby reducing the recombination rate. With the highest current collection of 22.85 mA/cm2, a PCE of 11.3% has been recorded for the solar cell that possessed 1% Al-doped TNC. Furthermore, the ambient stability of the respective device shows ?85% of its initial PCE. The effect of the TiO2 nanostructure and Al3+ doping in TiO2 nanocubes is discussed elaborately in this work. 2024 American Chemical Society -
Influence of Synthesis Temperature on the Structural, Morphological and Optical Properties of MoO3 Nanorods
Molybdenum trioxide nanomaterials have attained notable attention in the recent past and are used in various optoelectronic and biomedical applications. Here blue and purple blue light emitting MoO3 nanophosphors were synthesized using the simple hydrothermal method at three different temperatures 100C, 150C, and 200C. Structural characterization using XRD along with Raman spectroscopy confirms the formation of a highly stable orthorhombic phase. Micro strain effects have been analyzed by employing the Williamson-Hall method using a uniform deformation model. Nanorod like morphology was obtained from FESEM. Optical analysis, using Tauc plot shows a decreasing trend in bandgap value with increasing temperature. Emission peaks in the photoluminescence spectrum are associated with the transition between the sub-bands of the Mo5+ defect state. From CIE coordinates it is confirmed that the characteristic light from the samples is blue and purple-blue. Being an excellent blue and purple blue light emitting phosphor, MoO3 is a suitable material for future LED and fluorescence imaging applications. Mathematical analysis of histogram equalization techniques for medical image enhancement: a tutorial from the perspective of data loss
This tutorial demonstrates a novel mathematical analysis of histogram equalization techniques and its application in medical image enhancement. In this paper, conventional Global Histogram Equalization (GHE), Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE), Histogram Specification (HS) and Brightness Preserving Dynamic Histogram Equalization (BPDHE) are re-investigated by a novel mathematical analysis. All these HE methods are widely employed by researchers in image processing and medical image diagnosis domain, however, this has been observed that these HE methods have significant limitation of data loss. In this paper, a mathematical proof is given that any kind of Histogram Equalization method is inevitable of data loss, because any HE method is a non-linear method. All these Histogram Equalization methods are implemented on two different datasets, they are, brain tumor MRI image dataset and colorectal cancer H and E-stained histopathology image dataset. Pearson Correlation Coefficient (PCC) and Structural Similarity Index Matrix (SSIM) both are found in the range of 0.6-0.95 for overall all HE methods. Moreover, those results are compared with Reinhard method which is a linear contrast enhancement method. The experimental results suggest that Reinhard method outperformed any HE methods for medical image enhancement. Furthermore, a popular CNN model VGG-16 is implemented, on the MRI dataset in order to prove that there is a direct correlation between less accuracy and data loss. 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.
