Clay-based cementitious nanofluid flow subjected to Newtonian heating
In recent years, a novel technique for producing robust cementitious materials, called nanocomposites, has emerged. These materials are comprised of clay minerals and polymers. As a result, a vertical flat plate has been used to evaluate a clay-based cementitious nanofluid in this research. The impacts of first-order chemical reactions, heat generation/heat absorption, and the Jeffrey fluid model are taken into account for the study of flow. Newtonian heating and the conditions for slippage velocity have also been considered. The mathematical problem for the flow analysis has been established in relations of partially coupled partial differential equations and the model has been generalized using constant proportional Caputo (CPC) fractional derivative. The problem is solved using the Laplace transform technique to provide precise analytical solutions. On the concentration, temperature, and velocity fields, the physics of a number of crucial flow parameters have been examined graphically. The acquired results have been condensed to a very well-known published work to verify the validity of the current work. It is important to note here that the rate of heat transfer in the fluid decreases by 10.17% by adding clay nanoparticles, while the rate of mass transfer decrease by 1.31% when the value of ? reaches 0.04. 2023 World Scientific Publishing Company. -
Effects of nitrogen, sulphur, and temperature treatments on the spectral, structural, and electrochemical characteristics of graphene oxide for energy storage applications
The structural and surface modifications have been studied on the hydrothermally Nitrogen (N) and Sulphur (S) doped and thermally reduced at 350 C nitrogen-doped, nitrogen-sulfur-doped graphene oxides. Raman spectra confirmed the reduction of graphene oxides by shifts in position and intensity variations of the D and G bands. EDX and mapping images revealed the carbon-oxygen ratio as well as the doping of nitrogen and sulphur into two-dimensional graphene oxide. The electrochemical properties of undoped and doped graphene oxides were investigated using a three-electrode system using a 1 M KOH electrolyte. It shows how doping, and reduction improve current conduction in graphene oxides. The specific capacitance of N,S-rGO after being synthesized and reduced at 350C was 930 Fg?1 and 1059 Fg?1, respectively, according to cyclic voltammetry results. The N-rGO specific capacitance was found to be similar, with 850 Fg?1 and 891 Fg?1, respectively, for the as prepared and reduced at 350C. The charge-discharge analysis, cycle stability, and impedances for the applied frequency ranges of undoped and doped graphene oxides for energy storage applications have all been estimated and discussed. 2023 -
Is the effect of oil price shock asymmetric on the Indian stock market? Firm-level evidence from energy-intensive companies
Purpose: This paper aims to examine the asymmetric impact of the oil price increase and decrease on stock returns at the firm level. Design/methodology/approach: To ascertain the impact oil price can exert on the stock price at the firm level, this study uses panel structural vector auto regression with various linear and nonlinear measures of oil price shock on a data set, containing 1,168 firms listed in Indian stock markets. This study also considers stock index returns, Fama-French factors and inflation as control variables. Findings: This paper finds evidence that at firm level, net oil price increase and decrease have an asymmetric impact on stock returns. Other oil price shock measures, namely, shock because of oil price increase and decrease, do not show any sign of asymmetric impact on stock returns. Slow Violence in Vikram Chandras Sacred Games: An Ecocritical Reading
This article gives insight into the ways in which enforcement and institutional vigilante activities portrayed in Vikram Chandras Sacred Games foreshadow the urban thicket of garbage dump yards and slum dwellings. The text will be analyzed from an ecocritical perspective to establish aspects of slow violence and its explicit and implicit results. Chandras plotline, regarding several entangled human tragedies against the background of refuse, urges a study of the novel through the lens of waste studies. However, he fails to address the reasons for the characters opinion of Mumbai being uninhabitable and infamous for treating human life as expendable. The novelist also seems to normalize the issues of inequalities in waste management and justifies the anthropocentric utilitarian perception of resources. The depictions of Mumbai gang wars against a disturbingly overlooked state of dilapidated lives and misplaced ideologies mention waste as being both created and ignored. TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE: Need for Posthuman Ethics in the Anthropocene Era
Ethics, which constitutes principles that guide human conduct, deserves particular attention in this era of the Anthropocene, when human actions greatly influence ecology. Renaissance humans have hegemonised humanistic ethics of living and interacting with the world since the Enlightenment. While exalting human exceptionalism, humanism has relegated all other forms of existence to a subservient taxonomy, categorising them as raw material for human empowerment. The self-exalted autonomous subject, homo sapiens, faces the threat of extinction in the wake of unprecedented and violent ecological reactions. The exponential growth of the agency of intelligent machines also calls to question the autonomous human agency propagated by humanism. A paradigm shift is the moments need; this paper suggests posthuman ethics as an alternative. The new worldview, post-humanism, places the homo sapiens in relation to the rest of the universe. Philosophical post-humanism, proposed by Francesca Ferrando, foregrounds posthuman ethics that are post-humanistic, post-anthropocentric, and post-dualistic. Design and Development of Artificial Intelligence Knowledge Processing System for Optimizing Security of Software System
Software security vulnerabilities are significant for the software development industry. Exploration is conducted for software development industry landscape, software development eco-system landscape, and software system customer landscape. The focus is to explore the data sources that can provide the software development team with insights to act upon the security vulnerabilities proactively. Across these modules of software landscape, customer landscape, and industry landscape, data sources are leveraged using artificial intelligence approaches to identify the security insights. The focus is also on building a smart knowledge management system that integrates the information processed across modules into a central system. This central intelligence system can be further leveraged to manage software development activities proactively. In this exploration, machine learning and deep learning approaches are devised to model the data and learn from across the modules. Architecture for all the modules and their integration is also proposed. Revocable and Secure Multi-Authority Attribute-Encryption Scheme
Security is an important factor as nowadays many systems generates and process huge amount of data. This also leads many of us to rely on a third-party service provider for storing sensitive and confidential data. Providing outsourcing means the data owner will encrypt and store the data in a third-party storage system. In this paper, we are proving solutions for two main problems. The first issue is what if the attribute authority itself can access the data because the attributes and secret keys are known by attribute. This issue is called the key escrow problem. For solving it we are proposing a multi-authority system with Elliptic Curve Cryptography. The second issue that we addressed in this paper is the revocation problem, which means when someone leaves the system should be prohibited from accessing subsequent data this is called forward security and as a second case when someone joins the system should be prevented from accessing previous shared date this is called backward security. In this paper, we address both forward and backward security. For solving this problem we are using the concept of the Lagrange interpolation technique for generating and verifying secret keys. Comprehensive study of the relationship between multiverse and big data
Studies linking two broader spectra of topics have fascinated scholars in many aspects. Here we tried associating two such far-reaching aspects which have finite connectivity between them. Multiverse has been the talk of the hour which explains the theory of multiple universes which exist in parallel. This is a topic in physics concerned with many relative matters. On the other side, Big data is the subject in computing and information science describing the volume, velocity, and variability of the data hitting computer-connected systems. Big data can only be handled with newer architectures, algorithms, and methodologies as its features are contradicting regular computer systems and networks. It is well known that multiple processors are required to handle big data existing in parallel performing a single job given by the data analyst. So as we know, multiverse consist of hypothetical concepts of several parallel universe having everything like information, energy, and time. However, we see this situation to draw an association connecting parallel universes of the multiverse with parallel processors of big data by incorporating the concepts of working of parallel universe in the processing of Big Data. We provide a comprehensive observation on both the topics and take positive lenience on bringing a newer terminology in data science. History of multiverse along with big data structures are brought in with related parameters. This aspect is novel in its nature and we complement the literature carried out by the researchers and scholars appropriate analysis. Synthesis and characterization of graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide membranes for water purification applications
Graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide-based laminar membranes have been receiving increased attention for its novel filtration applications. In the present work, graphene oxide (GO) solution is synthesized by modified Hummers method and coated on cellulose nitrate by vacuum filtration technique. Further, reduced graphene oxide (rGO) membranes are fabricated by the controlled reduction of GO membrane using vitamin C solution at 60 C. The formation of GO and rGO is confirmed from Raman, FTIR, and UVVis spectroscopy studies. Morphology and thickness of the membranes are investigated using surface and cross-sectional FESEM images. The filtration study showed that rGO membrane has higher water flux (52 L m?2h?1) than GO (40 L m?2h?1) membrane at differential pressure of 0.3MPa. Moreover, both membranes show congo red rejection of 96%. Prior studies showed that water flux decreased upon reduction of GO membrane which hindered the filtration properties of the membrane. Current work indicates that controlled reduction of GO leads to an enhancement in water flux, maintaining the dye rejection ratio. Enhancing the performance of renewable biogas powered engine employing oxyhydrogen: Optimization with desirability and D-optimal design
The performance and exhaust characteristics of a dual-fuel compression ignition engine were explored, with biogas as the primary fuel, diesel as the pilot-injected fuel, and oxyhydrogen as the fortifying agent. The trials were carried out with the use of an RSM-based D-optimal design. ANOVA was used to create the relationship functions between input and output. Except for nitrogen oxide emissions, oxyhydrogen fortification increased biogas-diesel engine combustion and decreased carbon-based pollutants. For each result, RSM-ANOVA was utilized to generate mathematical formulations (models). The output of the models was predicted and compared to the observed findings. The prediction models showed robust prediction efficiency (R2 greater than 99.21%). The optimal engine operating parameters were discovered by desirability approach-based optimization to be 24 crank angles before the top dead center, 10.88 kg engine loading, and 1.1 lpm oxyhydrogen flow rate. All outcomes were within 3.75% of the model's predicted output when the optimized parameters were tested experimentally. Human behavior analysis on political retweets using machine learning algorithms
The exponential rise in the use of social media has resulted in a massive increase in the volume of unstructured text created. This content is presented through messages, conversations, postings, and blogs. Microblogging has become a popular way for people to share what they are thinking. Many people express their thoughts on various issues relating to their hobbies. As a result, microblogging websites have become a valuable resource for opinion mining and sentiment research. Twitter is a well-known microblogging network, with over 500 million new tweets posted daily. The goal of this study was to mine tweets for political sentiments. The extraction of tweets relating to India's well-known political leaders of different states & parties in India and applying the polarity detection analysis of human behavior on the retweeted messages As a result, the sentiment classification algorithm is designed to determine whether tweets are more likely to predict the popularity of certain politicians among the general public. The subjectivity and polarity present in the tweets of political leaders are compared. The engagements of these leaders are then taken into account to determine their popularity. Analysis of Nifty 50 index stock market trends using hybrid machine learning model in quantum finance
Predicting equities market trends is one of the most challenging tasks for market participants. This study aims to apply machine learning algorithms to aid in accurate Nifty 50 index trend predictions. The paper compares and contrasts four forecasting methods: artificial neural networks (ANN), support vector machines (SVM), naive bayes (NB), and random forest (RF). In this study, the eight technical indicators are used, and then the deterministic trend layer is used to translate the indications into trend signals. The principal component analysis (PCA) method is then applied to this deterministic trend signal. This study's main influence is using the PCA technique to find the essential components from multiple technical indicators affecting stock prices to reduce data dimensionality and improve model performance. As a result, a PCA-machine learning (ML) hybrid forecasting model was proposed. The experimental findings suggest that the technical factors are signified as trend signals and that the PCA approach combined with ML models outperforms the comparative models in prediction performance. Utilizing the first three principal components (percentage of explained variance=80%), experiments on the Nifty 50 index show that support vector classifier (SVC) with radial basis function (RBF) kernel achieves good accuracy of (0.9968) and F1-score (0.9969), and the RF model achieves an accuracy of (0.9969) and F1-Score (0.9968). Enhanced Light Scattering Using a Two-Dimensional Quasicrystal-Decorated 3D-Printed Nature-Inspired Bio-photonic Architecture
A number of strategies have been exploited so far to trap photons inside living cells to obtain high-contrast imaging. Also, launching light inside biological materials is technically challenging. Using photon confinement in a three-dimensional (3D)-printed biomimetic architecture in the presence of a localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) promoter can overcome some of these issues. This work compares optical confinement in natural and 3D-printed photonic architectures, namely, fish scale, in the presence of atomically thin Al70Co10Fe5Ni10Cu5 quasicrystals (QCs). Due to their wideband LSPR response, the QCs work as photon scattering hotspots. The architecture acts as an additive source of excitation for the two-dimensional (2D) QCs via total internal reflection (TIR). The computational analysis describes the surface plasmon-based scattering property of 2D QCs. The 3D-printed fish scale's image contrast with the 2D Al70Co10Fe5Ni10Cu5 QC has been compared with other 2D materials (graphene, h-BN, and MoS2) and outperforms them. BUILDING A DATA ETHICAL FUTURE: Data Policies and Frameworks
Technology-driven choices are shaping the digital engagement of individuals and policymakers. Rapid technological advancements and the increasing utilisation of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have presented profound ethical challenges concerning privacy, accountability, and transparency. Existing Data Acts, internet policies, and government frameworks fall short of protecting individuals and states from violations of their digital footprints. This article advocates for a human-centric approach to data ethics, drawing on the concept of the common good, as articulated by John Rawls. Through a systematic review of global data privacy laws, acts, guidelines, and practices, the article examines potential disparities and emphasises the need for universal data legislation, guidelines, and policies. It highlights the significance of data policies and frameworks in fostering ethical data usage, trust, and integrity. Pluronic f127 encapsulated titanium dioxide nanoparticles: Evaluation of physiochemical properties for biological applications
The infections caused by bacteria that are resistant to drugs are very bad for human health and kill thousands of people every year. Also, both human actions and natural processes make surface waters more likely to have drug-resistant bacteria grow and spread in the environment. Because of this, researchers need to find new ways to treat bacterial infections quickly becoming resistant to drugs as soon as possible. Drug delivery systems based on nanoparticles have enhanced biocompatibility, biocidal properties, pharmacokinetics, tumor targeting, and stability while exhibiting non-toxicity to normal cells and overcoming drug resistance. In the present work, the pluronic-F127 encapsulated titanium dioxide (PF127/TiO2) nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared by a green process using Morinda citrifolia leaf extract. X-ray diffraction patterns (XRD) revealed that synthesized NPs exhibit an anatase structure. FESEM and TEM images of synthesized PF127/TiO2 NPs showed a polymorphic structure and an average particle size of 5060 nm. The chemical composition of the prepared NPs, which included elements like carbon, titanium, and oxygen, was identified using the EDAX spectrum. With the DLS spectrum, the hydrodynamic sizes of PF127/TiO2 NPs were 176 nm. In the FTIR spectrum, the metal oxide stretching bands like O-Ti-O were located at 664 cm?1 for PF127/TiO2 NPs. The surface defects, including Ti and O vacancies, were studied using the photoluminescence spectrum. The prepared PF127/TiO2 NPs exhibited significant microbial activity for inhibiting hospital pathogenic bacterial and fungal strains, specifically (Staphylococcus aureus) S. aureus, (Streptococcus pneumoniae) S. pneumonia, (Klebsiella pneumoniae) K. pneumonia, (Shigella dysenteriae) S. dysenteriae and (Candida albicans) C. albicans. In addition, PF127/TiO2 NPs had highly anti-cancer properties against human blood cancer (MOLT-4) cell lines. Smart Phone based Fundus Imaging for Diabetic Retinopathy Detection
INTRODUCTION: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the consequences of diabetes which if untreated may lead to loss of vision. Generally, for DR detection, retinal images are obtained using a traditional fundus camera. A recent trend in the acquisition of eye fundus images is the usage of smartphones to acquire images. OBJECTIVES: This paper focuses on the study of existing works which incorporated smartphones for obtaining fundus images and various devices available in the market. Also, the common datasets used for carrying out DR detection using smartphone-based fundus images as well as the classification models used for the diagnosis of DR are explored. METHODS: A search of information was carried out on articles based on DR detection from fundus images published in the state-of-the-art literatures. RESULTS: Majority of the works uses SBFI devices like 20D lens, EyeExaminer etc. to obtain fundus image. The common databases used for the study are EyePACS, Messidor, etc. and the classification models mostly rely on deep learning frameworks. CONCLUSION: The use of smartphones for capturing fundus images for DR detection are explored. Smartphone devices, datasets used for the study and currently available classification models for SBFI based DR detection are discussed in detail. Nudges and choice architecture in public policy: A bibliometric analysis
In recent years, nudges and choice architecture have gained significant attention amongst researchers, particularly in the domain of public policymaking. This study contributes to the existing literature on the application of nudges and choice architecture in public policy through a bibliometric analysis. A total of 419 documents from the Web of Science database from 2010 to 2021 were analysed, identifying the most prolific authors, foundational works, and sources, along with primary research themes. The study identifies keywords and themes that shape the current research trends and visualizes the intellectual structure of empirical works. The findings show an increasing focus on this subject area over the past decade, with a growing interest in themes such as dietary habits, healthcare, effectiveness of behavioral interventions, and sustainable choices. The application of nudges and choice architecture in policies related to health, food consumption, and diet management has also become increasingly prevalent as evidenced by the exponential growth in publications on these topics. 2023 Elsevier Inc. -
Enhanced Sensing Performance of an Ammonia Gas Sensor Based on Ag-Decorated ZnO Nanorods / Polyaniline Nanocomposite
The development of low-cost ammonia sensors with high sensitivity and selectivity has gained considerable interest. Though the response of these sensors at room temperature is low and needs enhancement. In the present study high sensitivity ammonia gas sensors based on nanocomposite films of polyaniline (PANI) and with varying ZnO concentrations were synthesized and investigated. With a loading of 10 at% ZnO, the gas sensing response of 59 % was obtained for 120 ppm NH3 gas. The gas response was further enhanced by decorating the ZnO nanorods with different concentrations of silver (Ag) nanoparticles. The Ag-decorated ZnO nanorods were embedded in the PANi matrix using the in-situ oxidative polymerization technique. It was shown that PANi ZnO, p-n junction, and the introduction of porosity in nanocomposite act synergistically in increasing the resistance caused by the deprotonation of PANi by NH3. Among various compositions studied, 2 % loading of Ag in ZnO embedded in PANi matrix, thin films were found to be highly selective and sensitive towards NH3 gas at room temperature with a chemiresistive response of 70 % at 120 ppm and a recovery time of less than 120 s. The selectivity of the nanocomposite was also studied towards various reducing and oxidizing gasses. 2023 Wiley-VCH GmbH. -

A formative measurement model and development of quality of work-life scale based on two-factor theory: evidence from Indian private industries
Purpose: This study examines the quality of work-life (QoWL) as a formative construct and validates the scale in an Indian context. Taking a cue from the two-factor (Herzberg) theory, the study developed and validated a formative assessment model of QoWL in the current scenario. Design/methodology/approach: Cross-sectional data and a self-administered questionnaire were used to analyze the QoWL scale based on a sample of 841 respondents from IT/ITES, BFSI, CPG and manufacturing sectors. Indicators/items of QoWL were considered a first-order reflective construct, and factors of QoWL were considered second-order formative construct in the study. Embedded two-stage approach was used to assess the antecedent construct in the model in which QoWL was measured with seven formative indicators in stage one, and all the constructs of the QoWL are measured with a single item (Global_QWL, i.e. the essence of all constructs) in stage two. Findings: The study found QoWL as a formative construct with seven significant dimensions; namely, hygiene factors included fairness in compensation (FC), job security (JS), interpersonal relationship (IR), health and wellbeing (HWB), where motivational factors had rewards and career growth (RG), work-life balance (WLB) and learning and development (LD). The study also indicated the strong association of a single item (global_QWL) with all constructs of QoWL. The study findings conceptualize a QoWL as a formative construct within the mentioned sector and can be generalized and extended to other sectors of the economy as well. Research limitations/implications: Future researchers can take guidance to deal with the formative construct in the development and validation of scale in various topics in the field of HRM. Future researchers can extend the study across cities and different sectors. Practical implications: In this VUCA world, employees have to be constantly on their toes to ensure their organization remains relevant. In this context, the least organization can do for their employees is to offer a conducive environment and favorable QoWL. This study aims to assist the key decision-makers in applying the QoWL index as a formative construct and aiding them in improving the quality of their decisions. Social implications: Researcher believes that applying the QoWL index as a formative construct can aid decision-makers in improving the quality of their decisions by equipping them with relevant inputs and knowledge. Government can focus on the employees' welfare and introduce the current motivational and hygiene factors in the area of quality of life of the Indians. Originality/value: Formative assessment measurement of QoWL model was validated with the two-factor theory to understand the work environment of India in the private sector across different sectors.
