Sm-MOF/rGO/PANI composite as an electrode material for supercapacitor applications
In recent years, scientists have been paying a lot of attention to metal-organic frameworks, often known as MOFs, as a possible material for use as electrodes in supercapacitors. MOFs are capable of functioning as high-quality pseudocapacitors because of their crystalline structure, which enhances the specific surface area and provide mechanical support for composite materials. The objective of this study is to synthesize an electrode material that can be used as supercapacitors by synthesizing Sm-MOF and then combining it with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and polyaniline (PANI) to make a hybrid material. Here, the effect of incorporation of PANI and rGO in Sm-MOF is investigated, and its application as a supercapacitor is examined. Due to the high surface area and pore size, Sm-MOF/rGO/PANI material exhibits high specific capacitance. The computed specific capacitance of the composite Sm-MOF/rGO/PANI material is 1935.6 F g?1 when subjected to a current density of 1 A g?1. The Sm-MOF/rGO/PANI device is fabricated and exhibits a specific capacitance of 218 F g?1. The specific power and energy are calculated to be 59.3 Wh kg?1 and 581 W kg?1, respectively. 2023 Elsevier Ltd -
SM-SegNet: A Lightweight Squeeze M-SegNet for Tissue Segmentation in Brain MRI Scans
In this paper, we propose a novel squeeze M-SegNet (SM-SegNet) architecture featuring a fire module to perform accurate as well as fast segmentation of the brain on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. The proposed model utilizes uniform input patches, combined-connections, long skip connections, and squeezeexpand convolutional layers from the fire module to segment brain MRI data. The proposed SM-SegNet architecture involves a multi-scale deep network on the encoder side and deep supervision on the decoder side, which uses combined-connections (skip connections and pooling indices) from the encoder to the decoder layer. The multi-scale side input layers support the deep network layers extraction of discriminative feature information, and the decoder side provides deep supervision to reduce the gradient problem. By using combined-connections, extracted features can be transferred from the encoder to the decoder resulting in recovering spatial information, which makes the model converge faster. Long skip connections were used to stabilize the gradient updates in the network. Owing to the adoption of the fire module, the proposed model was significantly faster to train and offered a more efficient memory usage with 83% fewer parameters than previously developed methods, owing to the adoption of the fire module. The proposed method was evaluated using the open-access series of imaging studies (OASIS) and the internet brain segmentation registry (IBSR) datasets. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed SM-SegNet architecture achieves segmentation accuracies of 95% for cerebrospinal fluid, 95% for gray matter, and 96% for white matter, which outperforms the existing methods in both subjective and objective metrics in brain MRI segmentation. 2022 by the authors. Small signal stability in a Microgrid using PSO based Battery storage system
This papers covers, modelling and analysis of a small microgrid with Battery Storage System (BSS). A sample microgrid is considered, it is analyzed for small signal stability, with and without BSS. Voltage, frequency and current THD which are considered to be the major attributes of stability in a microgrid, the behavior of these attributes is observed with and without BSS. The Battery storage system is connected to the considered microgrid through PV array, using PSO algorithm, which improves the stability of the system. Simulation is carried out using MATAB/ Simulink and the results are presented. Microgrid considered consists of PV array, Diesel Generator and Battery storage system. These sources are modelled according to the loads connected to the microgrid. BSS acts as emergency backup to the considered system and also provides small signal stability to the microgrid. Simulation is carried out with BSS and without Battery Storage in the Islanded mode. The obtained results show that microgrid with BSS is more stable during small disturbances and also acts as backup power supply. A Properly modelled microgrid can act as power backup for industries. 2022 IEEE. -
Smart Affect Recognition System for Real-Time Biometric Surveillance Using Hybrid Features and Multilayered Binary Structured Support Vector Machine
Human affect recognition (HAR) using images of facial expression and electrocardiogram (ECG) signal plays an important role in predicting human intention. This system improves the performance of the system in applications like the security system, learning technologies and health care systems. The primary goal of our work is to recognize individual affect states automatically using the multilayered binary structured support vector machine (MBSVM), which efficiently classify the input into one of the four affect classes, relax, happy, sad and angry. The classification is performed efficiently by designing an efficient support vector machine (SVM) classifier in multilayer mode operation. The classifier is trained using the 8-fold cross-validation method, which improves the learning of the classifier, thus increasing its efficiency. The classification and recognition accuracy is enhanced and also overcomes the drawback of 'facial mimicry' by using hybrid features that are extracted from both facial images (visual elements) and physiological signal ECG (signal features). The reliability of the input database is improved by acquiring the face images and ECG signals experimentally and by inducing emotions through image stimuli. The performance of the affect recognition system is evaluated using the confusion matrix, obtaining the classification accuracy of 96.88%. 2020 The British Computer Society 2020. Smart AI Tool for Accident Damage Detection
Accidents and fatalities from motor vehicle accidents are major concerns despite substantial advancements in safety technology. Because of this, the industry has made significant investments in creating new safety features, like cutting-edge driver assistance systems, and raising public awareness of safe driving habits. In general, car accidents can result in severe damage to the vehicles involved, and assessing and repairing that damage can be time-consuming and expensive. Manual inspection of vehicles is prone to errors and often requires trained professionals to identify the extent and location of the damage. Therefore, there is a need to develop an automated system that can detect and assess the damage caused to vehicles using AI and deep learning techniques. An image-based processing technique, YOLOv3, is proposed in this work to automate damage detection on automobiles. In the work, we used CNN to create a Mask R-convolutional neural Networks model to identify the location of damage on a car. The damaged area is precisely marked in the images. The base weights from the Mask R-CNN COCO dataset are used to train the model. 21 epochs are used to process the images. The surface of the damage is highlighted in the final image using a color splash technique after processing. Auto insurance firms, vehicle rental companies, and repair shops would all benefit from this automated method of determining the degree of exterior vehicle damage and then calculating the severity of that damage. The value of fraudulent auto insurance claims can also be reduced. The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025. -
Smart Air Pollution Monitoring System Using Arduino Based on Wireless Sensor Networks
Impurity levels in air have risen throughout time as a result of several reasons, such as population expansion, increased automobile use, industry, and urbanization. All of these elements harm the health of individuals who are exposed to them, which has a detrimental effect on human well-being. We will create an air pollution monitoring system based on an IoT that uses a Internet server to track the air quality online in order to keep track of everything. An alert will sound when the level of harmful gases such CO2, smoking, alcohol, benzene, and NH3 is high enough or when the air quality drops below a specified threshold. The air quality will be displayed on the LCD in PPM. The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024. -

Smart and Secured Ways of E-Payment: Design of New Frameworks
The rapid development in technology and the rapid growth of e-commerce have paved the way for changes in the method of payment. It also gave rise to various hazards while making the e-payment when compared to the normal or standard payment methods it is necessary to make a secured payment. Various initiatives are taken by the government for providing a secure payment system which will be more useful for all the commercial activities done through online. Already various e-payment systems are used by the consumers for paying the amount for the materials purchased. The increasing need of foreign exchange with an effective and efficient electronic payment system is required for making the low value payment. The framework that is been used in the global market and also in virtual marketplace require a complete legal structure which should also have impact on the economy of the mediaeval trade. Rapid development of e-commerce during the recent years has made more changes in the financial and non-financial transactions. In e-commerce, the payment gateway plays an important role in the exchange in ensuring that the transactions occur without any disputes and also maintains the security of the system. Most of the payment gateways used in the e-commerce are provided by rusted third party who will provide monetary information. Due to the increased use of e-commerce and online payment system, there is also any increase in security breaches during the past few years. So, it is necessary to build a new framework that will provide a secured platform for the e-payment system through which the consumers can directly connect to their merchants securely. Most of the third-party providers are also asking for the identity of the customers while making the payment which might even have change of loss of person information of the customer. The new framework should contain an improved security and the data collected should be confident, proper authentication method should be used, and availability of the data and integrity of the data should be maintained. Smart and sustainable PVA/cellulose-ZnO/anthocyanin Films: Dual-action packaging for extended shelf life and real-time freshness detection
Sustainable sensing films for intelligent packaging applications are the need of the hour. Herein, for the first time, cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) from pineapple pomace are used as the host polymer for preparing cellulose-ZnO (CZnO) powder. The structural and dimensional properties of the CZnO powder were confirmed using different characterization techniques. Red cabbage-derived anthocyanin and CZnO were infused with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) to make the antibacterial sensing films (CZnO/PVA (CPVA) and CZnO/anthocyanin/PVA (CAPVA)). The effective bonding between the PVA and the fillers is studied using the AT-FTIR analysis. The incorporation of C-ZnO and CZnO/anthocyanin resulted in the improving the UV screening ability of the developed films. The tensile strengths of the CPVA and CAPVA films were 14 and 11 % greater than that of the neat PVA film. The interaction with water was significantly reduced when CZnO was added to PVA making the material more hydrophobic. This was further confirmed using wettability studies. In 100 days, in wet conditions, the PVA, CPVA, and CAPVA showed biodegradability of 17, 37, and 39 %, respectively. As a packaging material, CPVA and CAPVA films increased the shelf life of fresh shrimp by up to 4 days as they have significant water barrier properties and antibacterial activity with an inhibitory zone of 28 and 20 mm (for CAPVA) against S. aureus and E. coli respectively. Furthermore, the release of volatile amines from shrimp spoilage caused the color of the CAPVA films to change over time from pink to yellow, indicating the possibility of using these films for real-time freshness monitoring. 2025 Elsevier B.V. -

Smart Attendance Management System using IoT
Taking student attendance is mandatory in an educational organization, and maintaining those attendance plays a vital role. The conventional way of taking student attendance in any institution is time-consuming and challenging, because in the conventional procedure taking attendance/Roll call is performed manually by calling student names as per their roll numbers and marking 'absent(A)' or 'present(P)' on the attendance/logbook accordingly in every class per day. To improve teaching efficiency/teaching time in classrooms by reducing the time required for Roll call's, we have proposed a biometric student attendance system based on IoT. The proposed system records students' attendance using the facial-based biometric system and stores the attendance details on the server through the internet. In this system, the Raspberry pi camera captures the student face images and compares them with the stored images in the database. If the captured image is comparable with the stored image, then the student's attendance is recorded on the remote server as a present(P) in class; otherwise, attendance is recorded as absent (A). The developed system has been tested for sample classes, and the results proved that the system is simple, cost-effective, and portable for managing students' attendance. 2022 IEEE. -

It adapts to dynamic environmental conditions for efficiency and safety. Innovation increases operational efficiency, saves labor costs, and improves food quality. 2025 IEEE. -
Smart Beta Investing in India : Portfolio Construction, Implementation, and Evaluation
The smart beta strategies, having marked their footprint in the developed markets in the last decades on the backdrop of the failure of active investing, are capturing emerging markets such as India recently. In this regard, the study attempts to examine the performance of smart beta strategies in long-only, multifactor, and alternative indexing frameworks in India. The study builds alternatively weighted (AW) univariate portfolios. Firstly, the cap-weighted (CW) single-factor portfolios are built. Subsequently, the portfolios are alternatively weighted and compared to the CW portfolio. Next, the CW multifactor portfolios are built and compared with singlefactor portfolios. Finally, the AW multifactor portfolios are built and newlinecompared with CW multifactor portfolios. All the portfolios are tested for their significant performance relative to the risk-free rate, market, and alpha under factor models. The portfolios were constructed from the constituents of NIFTY 500, adjusting for survivorship bias. The sample period spanned over 21 years from 01/10/2000 to 31/09/2021. The hypotheses were tested using the One-Sample T-test or Wilcoxon Signed Rank test for the difference in return, based on return distribution, and the Wald test for the difference in alpha and exposure using the Seemingly Unrelated Regression framework. The portfolios were constructed and analyzed using Python. We find mixed evidence of factor presence; the factor portfolios built on market data such as Illiquid, Winner, Stable, and Size offered better performance than those built on fundamental data such as Value, Strong, and Conservative. The Integrated portfolio does not differ from Mixed and single-factor portfolios, except for underperformance against the Illiquid portfolio. The alternative weighting offered mixed performance at single and multifactor levels.
