An empirical investigation of foreign direct investment and economic growth in SAARC nations
Purpose This paper aims to investigate the causal nexus between foreign direct investment (FDI) and economic growth in SAARC countries. Design/methodology/approach Johansen's cointegration test was employed to examine the long?run relationship between foreign direct investment and economic growth in SAARC countries. Besides, the vector error correction model (VECM) was employed to examine the causal nexus between foreign direct investment and economic growth in SAARC countries for the years 1970?2007. Finally, the impulse response function (IRF) has been employed to investigate the time paths of log of foreign direct investment (LFDI) in response to one?unit shock to the log of gross domestic product (LGDP) and vice versa. Findings The Johansen cointegration result establishes a long?run relationship between foreign direct investment and gross domestic product (GDP) for the sample of SAARC nations, namely, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The empirical results of the vector error correction model exhibit a long?run bidirectional causal link between GDP and FDI for the selected SAARC nations except India. The test results show that there is a one?way long?run causal link from GDP to FDI for India. Research limitations/implications This paper employed annual data to examine the causal nexus between FDI and economic growth. Therefore, researchers are encouraged to test the FDI?growth relationship further by using quarterly data. Practical implications The SAARC nations should adopt effective policy measures that would substantially enlarge and diversify their economic base, improve local skills and build up a stock of human capital recourses capabilities, enhance economic stability and liberalise their market in order to attract as well as benefit from long?term FDI inflows. Originality/value This paper would be immensely helpful to the policy makers of SAARC countries to plan their FDI policies in a way that would enhance growth and development of their respective economies. 2011, Emerald Group Publishing Limited -

Causality among Energy Consumption, CO2 Emission, Economic Growth and Trade: A Case of India
The present study attempts to examine the causal nexus between energy consumption, CO2 emissions, economic growth and trade in India using the Perron (1989) unit root test, Gregory and Hansen (1996) cointegration test and vector error-correction model (VECM). The study results exhibit a long-run relationship between energy consumption, CO2 emissions, economic growth and trade in India. The empirical results confirm that energy consumption influences the economic activity in the short run, implying that higher rate of economic growth is driven by consumption demand for energy in the economy. This is also well in consistence with the findings of Paul and Bhattacharya (2004) in the Indian context. Further, the study detects one-way causation that exists from energy use to CO2 emission and trade, and CO2 emissions to economic growth in the short run. 2015 Indian Institute of Foreign Trade. -

IoT-Driven Dynamic Behavior Intervention Model for Sustainable Hygiene Practices: Insights from Household Water Consumption
IoT-enabled technologies have advanced so that smart sensor systems can observe and recognize human behavior in various contexts, including energy consumption and healthcare, with remarkable efficiency and effectiveness. One example is using the Internet of Things (IoT) technology to better comprehend human water consumption behavior and establish and maintain clean environments. Static models have typically been used to model the behavior intervention process throughout time. While these static approaches perform adequately when predicting general human behavior, they fall short when tracking and reacting to shifts in behavior in IoT settings. The authors of this study proposed a dynamic behavior intervention model to forecast the hygiene-related water-use habits of individual households. This model takes its cues from the structure equation model method and the notion of control engineering, which originated in the expanded theory of planned behavior (ETPB). The current ETPB dynamic behavior model with system parameter estimation using an artificial neural network (ANN)is assessed for its intervention trend using a residential water use case study. It has been shown that the ETPB dynamic model helps the process of intervening in peoples behavior. The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025. -

Decision-Making Models for Efficient Outbreak Response: A Management-Orientated Approach to Dengue Control in Andhra Pradesh, India
Dengue remains a serious health challenge across India, and Andhra Pradesh faces repeated outbreaks that put a heavy strain on hospitals, clinics, and communities. Combating this disease isnt just about tracking casesits about making quick, smart decisions to control its spread effectively. This study looks into different decision-making approaches that can help improve how Andhra Pradesh responds to dengue outbreaks, making actions faster and more targeted. Using a mix of existing epidemiological data, interviews with health officials and community leaders, and simulated scenarios, the research explores how tools like Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA), the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), and Decision Tree Analysis can assist in choosing the best strategies. These models help prioritise interventions such as resource distribution, vector control efforts, and public awareness campaigns, especially when dealing with uncertainties like limited resources or unpredictable case surges. The findings indicate that integrating these decision-making frameworks into public health planning can foster better coordination among policymakers, healthcare workers, and local authorities. This improved coordination can lead to quicker responses, more effective use of resources, and ultimately, a reduction in dengue cases and their impact on communities. The study emphasises that combining management science tools with traditional epidemiology isnt just helpfulits essential for strengthening outbreak preparedness. Plus, these approaches can be adapted to tackle other communicable diseases in India and similar settings worldwide, paving the way for smarter, more resilient public health systems. 2025, Indian Society for Malaria and Communicable Diseases.
