Will the application of IT on this sector have the similar results? This study is based on the growing trend of information communication technology (ICT) based projects for development which is popularly known as ITCD. India being the hub for ICTD projects this paper attempts to evaluate the pros and cons of this developing system. It has been stated by many authors that most of the ICT projects are non-sustainable. This paper tries to examine the reasons for adopting this technology for rural development which is largely illiterate and the risks and reasons which lead to failure of such projects. Various organization like the government of India, International organizations and non-profit organizations have been investing largely in terms of finance as well as human resource. Is this investment worth the outcome is one major issue which the study looks into. In order to conduct this research qualitative tools have been employed. Interviews with experts were conducted and a case study was deeply analyzed. This paper presents a brief review of the technologies, the rural ICT projects and the issues associated with the use of ICT for rural development.
