              <text>Highly fluorescent carbon nanoparticles are synthesized from corn starch via one-pot hydrothermal method. Upon treatment with the lime juice as the catalyst, carbon nanoparticles are functionalized with potassium, and an improvement in the luminescence behavior is also observed. The synthesized nanoparticles did not exhibit any antibacterial activity against gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis) and gram-negative (Pseudomonas fluorescence, E.coli) bacteria. The excellent photoluminescence coupled with non-toxic behaviour of the carbon nanoparticles would be best suited for biomedical applications.  The Electrochemical Society</text>
