Focusing on the Koch-Rajbongshi community, the proposed Kamatapur state, and tribalhood, it analyzes the geo-ethno-political landscape involving Assam, North Bengal, and the bordering areas of Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal. Drawing from the Kamata and Koch kingdom's historical legacies, the chapter situates the demand for Kamatapur within broader frameworks of linguistic rights, tribal autonomy, and national security concerns. Koch Rajbongshi, an Indigenous tribe tracing their lineage to the ancient Koch civilization and rightfully meets the criteria for Scheduled Tribe status, has long been denied their rightful recognition due to regional political intricacies.
