Psychological stress plays a crucial role in PCOS, acting as both a trigger and a maintaining factor. This review focused on outlining how psychological stress may disrupt the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, leading to dysfunction in endocrine and immunological systems. The review has highlighted how glucocorticoids impair hormonal equilibrium and exacerbate immune dysfunction in PCOS. Additionally, the review examines the association between PCOS and various autoimmune conditions. There exists a complex interaction between psychological stress, neuroendocrine disruption, and immune dysfunction in PCOS.
