Speech Recognition and Speech Synthesis are two complementary technologies that are used in systems to which the human voice serves as input or output. People with physical, motor disabilities prefer systems that can be driven by their voice than using the strenuous, usual and standard input-output devices such as keyboard, mouse and monitor. Solutions under the umbrella of Assistive Technology are designed to support people with disabilities to overcome the difficulties in handling their diurnal chores. Present-day commercial speech processing systems have received wider customer acceptance, yet not suitable for people with speech disabilities. It is observed that present-day speech recognizers fail to recognize voices with distortions, misrepresentations and deformations. The unintelligibility of the input voice limits the use of off-the-shelf speech processing products by the speech-impaired user community. In such scenarios, the speech processing systems require alterations to become suitable for the specialised user group. Techniques of adaptation are popular in the field of speaker recognition, which can be applied in the domain of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). The main aim of this research is to model a speaker adaptive system for the speech-disabled users with articulation disorders and neurologically-based disorders due to illnesses like cerebral palsy. The problem context for this research work is two-fold: accepting the incomprehensible speech input and transforming the same into a more understandable speech. The first portion is to adapt a speech recognizer and verify the recognition accuracy; the second portion is to substitute the recognized words with a better- comprehensible voice. Due to the medical requirements of the research subjects, collecting and using live speech data of individuals is an onerous task with complex infrastructure. Also, the collection and storage of patients data are restricted by ethical procedures. Hence, the data created by various Universities, following the standard procedures in a noise-free environment are used for this research work. Experiments are
conducted on the voice data sets in order to improve the recognition accuracy for speakers uttering individual words. The Speech Recognizer is implemented using Hidden Markov Models and Speech Synthesizer is implemented using a pattern-searching algorithm on a database with text input and voice output (concatenative synthesis). The adaptation techniques, viz., Maximum Likelihood Linear Regression (MLLR) and Maximum A Posteriori (MAP) are applied in a pipeline with adjusted language model and pronunciation dictionary. This has reduced the Word Error Rates (WER) of recognizing the incoherent speech. In the process of adaptation, the parameters of the acoustic model of a generic speech recognizer are altered using the feature vectors generated from the training data set applying maximum likelihood linear regression. Parameters of this updated model are then used as informative priors to MAP adaptation. Speech Synthesizer, i.e., the Text-to-Speech system then translates the recognized text into a more-intelligible voice which is clearer to the listeners. The simulation with test data sets measured the effectiveness of the combined algorithm proposed here; it produced improvements in recognition accuracy from 43%
(for a speaker with 93% speech intelligibility) to 90% (for a speaker with 2% speech intelligibility). An analysis of the improvement in recognition accuracy and speed of
recognition for each speaker reveals that the proposed methodology is more effective for severely dysarthric speakers than those with less speech impairments, making the
proposed model socially significant.

Sustainable sensing films for intelligent packaging applications are the need of the hour. Herein, for the first time, cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) from pineapple pomace are used as the host polymer for preparing cellulose-ZnO (CZnO) powder. The structural and dimensional properties of the CZnO powder were confirmed using different characterization techniques. Red cabbage-derived anthocyanin and CZnO were infused with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) to make the antibacterial sensing films (CZnO/PVA (CPVA) and CZnO/anthocyanin/PVA (CAPVA)). The effective bonding between the PVA and the fillers is studied using the AT-FTIR analysis. The incorporation of C-ZnO and CZnO/anthocyanin resulted in the improving the UV screening ability of the developed films. The tensile strengths of the CPVA and CAPVA films were 14 and 11 % greater than that of the neat PVA film. The interaction with water was significantly reduced when CZnO was added to PVA making the material more hydrophobic. This was further confirmed using wettability studies. In 100 days, in wet conditions, the PVA, CPVA, and CAPVA showed biodegradability of 17, 37, and 39 %, respectively. As a packaging material, CPVA and CAPVA films increased the shelf life of fresh shrimp by up to 4 days as they have significant water barrier properties and antibacterial activity with an inhibitory zone of 28 and 20 mm (for CAPVA) against S. aureus and E. coli respectively. Furthermore, the release of volatile amines from shrimp spoilage caused the color of the CAPVA films to change over time from pink to yellow, indicating the possibility of using these films for real-time freshness monitoring. 2025 Elsevier B.V.

This dissertation deals with the analysis of heat and mass transfer in Newtonian and newlinenon-Newtonian nanoand#64258;uid in the presence of motile microorganisms. The major application of the and#64258;uids in heat and mass transfer process is its capability to conduct heat. Hence, the and#64258;uids act as a source that conducts heat and cools down the temperature of the appliance. Whereas, the capacity of heat conductance is low in case of regular and#64258;uids, hence the concept of nanoand#64258;uids was introduced whose thermal conductivity is more when compared to regular and#64258;uids. The high thermal conductivity of nanoparticles helps in conducting more heat and the property of and#64258;uid to and#64258;ow helps the nanoparticles to and#64258;ow all over the desired surface and conduct heat. During the process of nanoand#64258;uid and#64258;ow, the nanoparticles undergo random motion that is termed as Brownian motion and they also experience the thermophoretic force that causes the nanoparticles to move from hotter region to colder region. Further, the presence of nanoparticles would either result in sedimentation or formation a layer of nanoparticles over the surface. This layer of nanoparticles adhered to the surface creates corrosion. Hence, it is important to prevent the nanoparticles from forming its layer over the surface and also the sedimentation of nanoparticles must be avoided to have no blockages in the system. Hence in this regards, self propelled microorganisms newlineare allowed to swim in the nanoand#64258;uid which in turn constitutes bioconvection. Considering these assumptions, problems in this dissertation are modelled such that it deals with the analysis of bioconvection caused due to the swimming of microorganisms in the and#64258;ow newlineof nanoand#64258;uid. The mathematical models of the and#64258;ow, heat and mass transfer of Newtonian and non Newtonian nanoand#64258;uids are designed using the partial differential equations with various assumptions to achieve realistic results.

The study aims to understand the influence of hypnotic relaxation on stress among BSc. Nursing Students. It tries to find out whether hypnotic suggestions can be useful in dealing with stressful events in their hospital and study level experiences. Convenience sampling technique was employed. The GHQ -12 was administered as a screening tool to the 1st and 2nd year nursing students from NIMHANS. 60 BSc. nursing students were selected after GHQ screening. These 60 participants responded as having high perceived stress and divided into two groups. The experimental group had 30 participants and control group had 30 participants. Post assessment indicated that the experimental group who were provided with regular hypnotic relaxation had significantly reduced their perceived stress.

Objectives: The landscape of autism education in India before the pandemic has already been unpromising, marked by inequities in education and therapy. The study aimed to highlight the impact of inadequate resources, policies, and practices in autism training during COVID-19 and to suggest measures to address inequities in access or attainability of services within the context of the experiences of special educators. Methods: We interviewed 12 special educators, exploring their virtual teaching experiences and parental participation and inferring insights on bridging gaps in autism education using a semi-structured interview guide. Results: Pre-pandemic disparities like inadequate resources, lack of policy implementation, and non-accessibility to therapy services impacted remote learning. It was disrupted by the non-availability of devices with good connectivity and limited technological skills among educators, students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and parents. The special educators and parents lacked the knowledge and skills to meet their unique needs. Skill regression, health issues, and behavior challenges were observed post-COVID. Conclusions: The study revealed that the existing challenges greatly affected education, health, and social life during the pandemic. Individuals with ASD who require very substantial support were the most affected group. It calls for immediate intervention in professional skill development, parental involvement, and policy revision. 2025 The British Society of Developmental Disabilities.

The sovereign manner of decision-making in a democracy is reckoned extremely crucial to stable governance. It is unfortunate, therefore, if the question of sovereignty acquires public attention predominantly in the wake of totalitarianist tendencies. It is the case now that with the emergence of several populist voices and nationalist sentiments, contemporary democracies actively debate the question of democratic sovereignty. This article is a critique of the complacency arising out of what is often wrongly perceived as the reassurances of the letter, or for that matter the spirit, of the constitutions of liberal democracies. Regardless of whether populism is traced within the electoral context or outside of it, the question of sovereignty offers a vantage point for understanding it from a theoretical perspective. In this regard, the article utilises the insightful yet contrasting notions of democratic sovereignty put forward by the philosophers Giorgio Agamben and Jacques Derrida. They approach the question of sovereignty from historical and/or linguistic points of view, illuminating the notions of sharing, sovereign violence and its overarching theological underpinnings. The articles findings, purposes and effects are meant to be educational and cultural in the first place. It employs, for the purpose of exemplification, a commentary on the Indian democratic scene. Tuning the electronic dimensionality and bandgap in Cs2AgBiX6 (X = Br, Cl) for photovoltaic applications: a DFT-1/2 study of cation disorder

Nontoxic, stable, and experimentally realized lead-free halide double perovskites, Cs2AgBiX6 (X = Br, Cl), attracted much attention for solar cell applications. However, their reduced electronic dimensionality and indirect (wide) bandgap, limiting solar energy absorption efficiency, are not mostly suitable. To address such issues, we employ the computationally efficient DFT-1/2 + SOC method to study the electronic structure of cation-ordered and cation-disordered materials comparatively. Our study explores the impact of cation disorder in tuning the electronic dimensionality, demonstrating how the disorder effect reduces bandgaps, increases solar energy absorption, enhances band dispersion, and decreases carrier effective masses for better photovoltaic performance. We observe an evolution of the electronic dimensionality in the disordered systems, influencing the carrier effective masses and absorption properties. Fractional (and non-integer) electronic dimensionality appears to be an essential concept in understanding the optoelectronic properties. The direct bandgap, high absorption in the desired energy range, and mostly lower effective masses of the disordered systems make them suitable for solar cell applications. 2024 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Exosome trans-membrane signals provide cellular communication between the cells through transport and/or receiving the signal by molecule, change the functional metabolism, and stimulate and/or inhibit receptor signal complexes. COVID19 genetic transformations are varied in different geographic positions, and single nucleotide polymorphic lineages were reported in the second waves due to the fast mutational rate and adaptation. Several vaccines were developed and in treatment practice, but effective control has yet to reach in cent presence. It was initially a narrow immune-modulating protein target. Controlling these diverse viral strains may inhibit their transuding mechanisms primarily to target RNA genes responsible for COVID19 transcription. Exosomal miRNAs are the main sources of transmembrane signals, and trans-located miRNAs can directly target COVID19 mRNA transcription. Addiction is of varied types and over the years the focus has not only been on the growing issues of addiction but also on how to prevent relapse on recovering clients. According to Buddhist teaching craving is the cause of suffering and suffering festers itself due to attachment. Once an individual is enlightened he will be able to find a path that ceases such suffering. Mindfulness helps bring about such enlightenment through being conscious and reflective of every moments experience. Mindfulness does not stop at being aware alone but extends its teaching to accepting such experiences as they are and letting go. Relapse prevention has long been researched on and new therapies developed to facilitate the same. This conceptual paper looks at how Mindfulness-based relapse prevention therapy works to prevent relapses. The paper focuses on understanding each of the eight-week therapy process and how it progresses in changing thoughts and reducing stress. The paper shows how Mindfulness-based relapse prevention helps clients understand their craving and how to change thoughts in order to deal with a craving thus preventing relapse. 2019, 2019 The Author(s).
