Indian psychology: Challenges, strategies, and prospects in education
Knowledge dissemination has been a hallmark of Indian tradition for millennia, particularly in the area of human biology and behavior. Westernization and globalization, however, have caused a gradual erosion of this rich heritage, resulting in waning interest among the populace. As a discipline, Indian Psychology faces a number of formidable challenges. The number of preconceived biases within society, the Westernized educational system, and the shortage of faculty with expertise in Indian psychology hinder the recognition and dissemination of the field. A dearth of research studies directly related to Indian psychology is also hindering its development and recognition. Emphasis was given on the importance of thorough research to substantiate its contributions to the understanding of human cognition, behavior, and consciousness. Promoting Indian psychology as an important and respected field requires dispelling misconceptions and fostering awareness. Through collaboration and increased research, Indian psychology can rightfully claim its place within the global academic community. 2024, IGI Global. All rights reserved. -
Is Mindfulness a Key Characteristic of a Jugaad Leader?
The practice of mindfulness has its roots in Eastern religions. Both Hinduism and Buddhism emphasize the need to be calm and to focus on the present moment. This concentration is called mindfulness. In the Indian subcontinent, there is a specific tradition for innovation and creativity that produces the best possible results, even among resources that are often sparse. This approach is called Jugaad. It is increasingly being used as a management technique. Companies in South Asia are adopting Jugaad as a practice to reduce research and development costs and use unconventional approaches to maximize resources for a company and its stakeholders. Tang (The leaders guide to mindfulness. Pearson UK, Harlow, 2018) noted that mindfulness from a context of jugaad creativity or innovation allows individuals to enter a childlike state of creativity. Mindfulness promotes a directed awareness and allows one to look at problems or issues from different perspectives-not only from a clients or customers perspective, but also from that of a child-encouraging further reflection. A mindfulness approach calms the mind before a creative or brainstorming session, which can foster insight and clear the mind for an aha moment in the jugaad innovation process. Often, a successful jugaad creative process requires breaking down psychological barriers in a team-e.g., fear of doing something wrong, fear of ideas being stolen by others. A mindful approach to such issues helps team members meditate and relax, creating a safer space for creative exploration, as these exercises can teach listening and acknowledgement of each individual. Also, the associated creativity and innovation process helps to understand the problem to be solved and generate ideas from it. The mindfulness approach promotes the flexibility and clarity needed for a jugaad approach (Tang, The leaders guide to mindfulness. Pearson UK, Harlow, 2018). The following are the results of the Jugaad leadership survey conducted among managers in India. Managers felt that Jugaad leadership involves leading by example, appreciation and recognition. Also fundamental is leading with humility, openness to receiving feedback, and awareness of ones own thoughts and emotions. Mindfulness also includes language and behavior, the ability to recognize peoples needs, and an intuition in situations that require change. All of these characteristics make it clear that the Jugaad leader is a mindful person and also show that he or she practices mindfulness while guiding, interacting with, and motivating his or her team members. Why should businesses care about the metaverse
The fourth wave of computer innovation is now being driven by virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), two spatial, immersive technologies. The resulting pervasive computing paradigm, which this wave is expected to produce, can change (online) commerce, entertainment, distant employment, and education. This new paradigm is called the Metaverse. Although the metaverse is still in its infancy, history demonstrates how swiftly new technology can advance, potentially leaving those who lag. Digital reality technologies can transform the entertainment industry, remote work, education, marketing, and economics. Additionally, these technologies are starting to create a new paradigm for information exchange. The concept of the Metaverse has given rise to a new paradigm. While it appears that it will take years for the metaverse to reach its full potential, it is currently a phenomenon marked by the activity of hundreds of entrepreneurs who are making noise but producing no noteworthy results. According to many observers, the current uptick in activity by large tech businesses is assisting in bringing some order to the market's volatility by providing startup companies with the dependable mainstream customer bases they lack. In order to provide better and more integrated business processes, metaverse will provide a far more immersive experience to an organization's whole ecosystem of clients, staff, and partners. In light of this, the study's objectives are to comprehend the business prospects in the metaverse, identify relevant business strategies, and forecast future business developments in the metaverse. The study also looks at the challenges that companies have while integrating the metaverse, taking into account different scenarios. 2024, IGI Global. All rights reserved. -
The broad-basing process in India and muslims
Muslims are recognised as numerically the most important among religious minorities in India. Broad-Basing has covered them, but the rate of catching up with the rest is not satisfactory. There has been a faster decline in poverty rate among Muslims than among the rest. The preponderance of the informal economy into which most of the Muslim workers are caught, their lower representation in higher education and gender biases are major stumbling blocks in their progress. The lower work participation of Muslim women is a significant factor in Muslims lagging behind others in employment. Most Muslim converts in India are believed to have come from the lower social groups, particularly artisans. Rural artisans suffered deprivation both during the colonial period due to cheaper imports of manufactured goods from England, and also subsequently after independence due to the rise of modern industry. Most of the artisans were reduced to the status of agricultural labourers. Thus the destiny of Muslims in India is tied up greatly with that of the informal sector. Their Broad-Basing can be promoted with the improvement in the status of the informal sector. 2020 selection and editorial matter, M. V. Nadkarni. -
