Multifaceted Destination Personality Traits: A Short Communication on Understanding from Tourists Perspective
This short communication is an extract from a major research work on destination branding, and this cull out of analysis focused on the multifaceted destination personality traits that the destinations possess and perhaps how such perceptions of tourists differ based on the selected personal factors. Though there are many studies in the destination branding literature, the evidence regarding the personality traits is still at the stage of progression, and approaches referring to multifaceted personality traits are unseen. After the pilot testing, a structured questionnaire was floated to 400 tourists who visited the selected destinations a district in Tamil Nadu, India, between June 2019 and February 2020, where 327 responses were finalized. The questionnaire had statements measuring the destinations personality traits and other questions on tourists characteristics. Combined mean calculation and multivariate results revealed that two personality traits, welcoming and friendly, were emphasized by the tourists and perceived in common. Also, personality traits such as spiritual and charming were found to be commonly perceived. The mean values also indicated the existence of multifaceted destination personality traits some inherent and some perceived. Marketers and others thereof have been recommended on the branding and advertising strategies based on the outcome of this communication. Network Based Detection of IoT Attack Using AIS-IDS Model
In recent days Internet of Things attained more familiarity. Although it is a promising technology, it tends to lead to a variety of security issues. Conventional methods such as IoT ecosystem based solutions were not suitable to give dilemmas to the system. A new system model called adaptive and intelligent Artificial Immune System (AIS) imitates the process of human being an immune system that consists of eligible properties of this varying environment. Therefore, it enhanced IoT security. Conventionally classifiers such as Random Forest Classifier, Recurrent Neural Network and K-nearest neighbours are used to classify the signals as normal or abnormal and predict malicious attacks. But unfortunately, these classifiers generated a high false alarm rate. Thus, a framework with maximum accuracy and minimum false alarm rate was required. In this work, the AIS model adopts the benefits of the Hopfield Neural Network (HNN) for classification. HNN classifier has a fixed weight, as it cannot be changed for its backpropagation property. This work optimally selects the fixed weight using Fast- Particle Swarm Optimization (F-PSO) and helps to enhance the accuracy of the HNN classifier. This classifier model then differentiates IoT attacks with a high detection rate and normal signal. Three datasets are taken to execute the proposed model and define its accuracy. The proposed Artificial Immune system using HNN for Intrusion Detection System (AIS-IDS) model exhibits 99.8% accuracy for the first dataset and minimum error value. Nanoparticle aggregation kinematics on the quadratic convective magnetohydrodynamic flow of nanomaterial past an inclined flat plate with sensitivity analysis
The study focuses on the aggregation kinematics in the quadratic convective magneto-hydrodynamics of ethylene glycol-titania ((Formula presented.)) nanofluid flowing through an inclined flat plate. The modified Krieger-Dougherty and Maxwell-Bruggeman models are used for the effective viscosity and thermal conductivity to account for the aggregation aspect. The effects of an exponential space-dependent heat source and thermal radiation are incorporated. The impact of pertinent parameters on the heat transfer coefficient is explored by using the Response Surface Methodology and Sensitivity Analysis. The effects of several parameters on the skin friction and heat transfer coefficient at the plate are displayed via surface graphs. The velocity and thermal profiles are compared for two physical scenarios: flow over a vertical plate and flow over an inclined plate. The nonlinear problem is solved using the RungeKutta-based shooting technique. It was found that the velocity profile significantly decreased as the inclination of the plate increased on the other hand the temperature profile improved. The heat transfer coefficient decreased due to the increase in the Hartmann number. The exponential heat source has a decreasing effect on the heat flux and the angle of inclination is more sensitive to the heat transfer coefficient than other variables. Further, when radiation is incremented, the sensitivity of the heat flux toward the inclination angle augments at the rate 0.5094% and the sensitivity toward the exponential heat source augments at the rate 0.0925%. In addition, 41.1388% decrement in wall shear stress is observed when the plate inclination is incremented from (Formula presented.) to (Formula presented.). IMechE 2021. -
Numerical study of Reiner-Rivlin nanoliquid flow due to a rotating disk with Joule heating and non-uniform heat source using Bulirsch-Stoer algorithm
The flow of a Reiner-Rivlin hydromagnetic nanoliquid due to rotating disk in the presence of Joule heating and a non-uniform heat source is investigated. To control the volume fraction of nanoparticles on the surface of a disk, a realistic passive control strategy is used, taking the thermal jump condition into account. Nonlinear governing differential equations are solved numerically using the Bulirsch-Stoer technique and a parametric analysis is performed using graphical representations. Using the Response Surface Methodology (RSM), the interaction effects of the influential parameters on the rate of heat transfer are visualized via three-dimensional surface graphs and contours. Further, the optimum rate of the heat transfer is estimated through the RSM analysis. It is found that the surface drag demotes due to enhancement in the cross-viscosity coefficient. A rise in the space-dependent heat source augments the temperature profile. The heat transfer rate is negatively influenced by the Eckert number. Further, when thermal slip is augmented, the sensitivity of the heat transfer towards the Hartmann number decreases at the rate of 0.2267%, and the sensitivity towards the Reiner-Rivlin fluid parameter decrements at the rate of 0.0554%. 2022 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group. -
Reiner-Rivlin nanomaterial heat transfer over a rotating disk with distinct heat source and multiple slip effects
The thermodynamic features of the Reiner-Rivlin nanoliquid flow induced by a spinning disk are analyzed numerically. The non-homogeneous two-phase nanofluid model is considered to analyze the effect of nanoparticles on the thermodynamics of the Reiner-Rivlin nanomaterial, which also includes a temperature-dependent heat source (THS) and an exponential space-dependent heat source (ESHS). Further, the transfer of heat and mass is analyzed with velocity slip, volume fraction jump, and temperature jump boundary conditions. The finite difference method-based routine is used to solve the complicated differential equations formed after using the von-Karman similarity technique. Limiting cases of the present problem are found to be in good agreement with benchmarking studies. The relationship of the pertinent parameters with the heat and mass transport is scrutinized using correlation, which is further evaluated based on the probable error estimates. Multivariable models are fitted for the friction factor at the disk and heat transport, which accurately predict the dependent variables. The Reiner-Rivlin nanoliquid temperature is influenced comparatively more by the ESHS than by the THS. The Nusselt number is decreased by the ESHS and THS, whereas the friction factor at the disk is predominantly decremented by the wall roughness aspect. The increment in the non-Newtonian characteristic of the liquid leads more fluid to drain away in the radial direction far from the disk compared with the fluid nearby the disk in the presence of the centrifugal force during rotation. The increased thermal and volume fraction slip lowers the nanoliquid temperature and nanoparticle volume fraction profiles. 2021, Shanghai University. -
The economic impact of floods on the plantation sector: a study of selected districts in Kerala
The people of Kerala have suffered the worst natural calamity in the form of heavy flood in 2018 and this continued for a week. The flood and the landslide had created a havoc in the agricultural sector of Kerala. The worst affected sector in the vagary of nature was the plantation sector. The industry lost around Rs. 3.382 crore due to heavy floods (CDS). The floods and the landslide had a major impact on the major planation crops including rubber, tea, coffee and cardamom. Among the different districts, Wayanad was the worst affected district along with Kottayam and Pathanamthitta. In the given context, this study is an attempt to analyse the economic impact of floods in the plantation sector in Kerala. The study found that the farmers are facing the worst financial crisis due to low price and high cost of production. The major problems faced by farmers are the inadequacy of assistance, reduction in yield and lack of pure water, delay in getting support, repayment of the loan and so on. 2023, World Research Association. Slow Violence in Vikram Chandras Sacred Games: An Ecocritical Reading
This article gives insight into the ways in which enforcement and institutional vigilante activities portrayed in Vikram Chandras Sacred Games foreshadow the urban thicket of garbage dump yards and slum dwellings. The text will be analyzed from an ecocritical perspective to establish aspects of slow violence and its explicit and implicit results. Chandras plotline, regarding several entangled human tragedies against the background of refuse, urges a study of the novel through the lens of waste studies. However, he fails to address the reasons for the characters opinion of Mumbai being uninhabitable and infamous for treating human life as expendable. The novelist also seems to normalize the issues of inequalities in waste management and justifies the anthropocentric utilitarian perception of resources. The depictions of Mumbai gang wars against a disturbingly overlooked state of dilapidated lives and misplaced ideologies mention waste as being both created and ignored. Exploring the Mediating Influence of Psychological Flexibility and Self-Compassion on the Relationship Between Adverse Childhood Experiences and Post-Traumatic Growth among Young Adults in India
Through the course of the last few decades researchers have observed that Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) can act as a breeding ground for transformative positive changes to develop in the face of adversity. This process of enhanced growth is systematically studied as Post Traumatic Growth (PTG). Though there is an existing association between ACE and PTG, yet there is a paucity of studies that explores the mediating variables in this relationship. The current study aims to explore the role of self-compassion (SC) and psychological flexibility (PF) between ACE and PTG among Indian young adults. The study was conducted on 298 Indian participants who were in the age bracket of 1825years. The study variables were assessed using self-administered rating scales. Participants were screened for ACE using Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Questionnaire. Additionally, Self-Compassion Scale (SCS-SF), Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II (AAQ-II), Posttraumatic Growth Inventory- Short Form were other tools used. The results have indicated that both Psychological Flexibility and Self-Compassion mediate the relationship of ACE with PTG. The current findings have emphasized on the role of Psychological Flexibility and Self-Compassion in moving towards Post Traumatic Growth. These findings reassert that Psychological Flexibility and Self-Compassion are foundational to Acceptance Commitment Therapy and highly useful especially while working with trauma affected populations. Measurement of Corporate Social Responsibility of Financial Companies in the Indian Context
Purpose: This study aimed to measure the corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities of financial companies (banks and NBFCs) in India. This paper used content analysis to quantify the CSR performance of financial companies. Financial institutions loan money to businesses utilizing assets owned by saving bank account holders, thereby heightening their societal responsibility. Methodology: Data from 63 financial companies listed on the National Stock Exchange from 20142015 to 20202021 were considered. Cronbachs alpha, descriptive statistics, and z-score test were used in this research to check the reliability and normality of the CSR scores. Findings: The results showed that private sector banks proactively participated in social activities compared to public sector banks (PSB) and non-banking financial institutions (NBFCs). Scores of CSR improved during the study period. Practical Implications: The study will allow future research because every issue and factor considered in the scale needs attention to benefit humankinds future generations. Calculated CSR scores could be used to measure the impact on the financial performance of companies. Exploring novice Indian school counsellors' experiences collaborating with teachers and administrators
Previous studies have shown that collaboration between school counsellors and other stakeholders such as teachers and administrators leads to improved outcomes for students and a better school climate. The current qualitative study explored the experiences and perceptions of novice school counsellors in India regarding collaboration with teachers and administrators. The sample included 11 novice school counsellors working in five different cities who were recruited using purposive sampling. The thematic analysis of the data collected via semistructured interviews revealed six main themes: 'Counsellors' perceptions about collaboration', 'Collaboration with teachers', 'Collaboration with administrators', 'Challenges faced during collaboration', 'Strategies helpful in collaboration' and 'Impact of training'. Implications discussed include the need for school counsellors to advocate for their role, the need for training programs to prepare stakeholders for collaboration, and the need for policies to integrate the role of a school counsellor into schools. Palliative care in duchenne muscular dystrophy: A study on parents' understanding
Introduction: Duchene muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a neuromuscular disease of childhood, which has clear progression. The international standardized care guidelines for DMD suggest that palliative care is essential for the affected children. Objective: To explore the parent's understanding of palliative care services available for children with DMD and the challenges faced by them in utilizing the same. Methods: A cross-sectional qualitative exploratory study was conducted among six families of boys diagnosed with DMD. A semi-structured interview guide with prompts was used to conduct in-depth interviews which lasted for an average of 1 h. Thematic analysis was done to identify the pattern or themes. Results: The major themes identified were 'palliative care, living with DMD, awareness about palliative care services and challenges.' Awareness about palliative care services is the dominant theme identified as influencing rest of the experiences narrated by the parents of children with DMD. Discussion: Integration of palliative care services from an early stage of the illness can help the child to make transition from one stage to another stage of the illness. To ensure the utilization of the available palliative care services, there is a need to create awareness about it among the general public. Conclusion: Introducing the concept of palliation of symptoms and ensuring quality of life of the child with DMD by accessing the available services can aid the parents to reach out for help for their child. 2021 Wolters Kluwer Medknow Publications. Virtual leadership program for adolescents with muscular dystrophy: a process evaluation
Children with muscular dystrophy go through the challenge of moving into adolescence compounded with the challenge of living with a debilitating muscle disease. This paper describes the process evaluation of a group leadership program for adolescents with muscular dystrophy. A five-day online program was conducted for 14 participants, 12 males, and 2 females, between 13 and 18 years, beneficiaries of Mobility in Dystrophy (MIND) trust, Kerala, India. The sessions, which lasted around one and a half hours each, focused on self-discovery through a participatory strength-based approach. The participants feedback was thematically analyzed. The process evaluation parameters, fidelity, dose delivered and received, reach, and context were found to be effective. The 100% attendance of the participants and their perceived improvement in self-confidence, self-awareness, friends circle, skills-set, and leadership were identified as positive outcomes. Psychosocial intervention programs through the online platform, with structured follow-ups for adolescents with life-limiting conditions would be beneficial. 2024 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. -
Telehealth Services for an Adolescent with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) During the COVID-19 Pandemic
The neuropalliative approach in a hospital setting for neuromuscular disorders is essentially multidisciplinary in focus and involves co-ordinated interventions. This case report describes an intensive case management approach through telehealth services provided from a hospital context in South India for psychosocial interventions for an adolescent with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Case management interventions during the COVID-19 pandemic were provided through sixteen sessions over the telephone, focusing on need assessment, service plan development, implementation, co-ordination, and monitoring. Major strategies were crisis management, supportive psychotherapy, and cognitive-behavioural strategies. Adaptations made to meet the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic using telehealth facilities can be incorporated into routine clinical practice in low-resource settings. IMPLICATIONS Telehealth, which emerged as a viable option for providing effective psychosocial care during the COVID 19 pandemic, could be adopted to complement routine clinical care in low-resource settings. 2024 Australian Association of Social Workers. -
Long-term optical and infrared variability characteristics of Fermi blazars
We present long-term optical and near-infrared flux variability analysis of 37 blazars detected in the ?-ray band by the Fermi Gamma-Ray Space Telescope. Among them, 30 are flat spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs) and 7 are BL Lac objects (BL Lacs). The photometric data in the optical (BVR) and infrared (JK) bands were from the Small and Moderate Aperture Research Telescope System acquired between 2008-2018. From cross-correlation analysis of the light curves at different wavelengths, we did not find significant time delays between variations at different wavelengths, except for three sources, namely PKS 1144-379, PKS B1424-418, and 3C 273. For the blazars with both B- and J-band data, we found that in a majority of FSRQs and BL Lacs, the amplitude of variability (?m) in the J band is larger than that in B band, consistent with the dominance of the non-thermal jet over the thermal accretion disc component. Considering FSRQs and BL Lacs as a sample, there are indications of ?m to increase gradually towards longer wavelengths in both, however, found to be statistically significant only between B and J bands in FSRQs. In the B-J v/s J-colour magnitude diagram, we noticed complicated spectral variability patterns. Most of the objects showed a redder when brighter (RWB) behaviour. Few objects showed a bluer when brighter (BWB) trend, while in some objects both BWB and RWB behaviours were noticed. These results on flux and colour characteristics indicate that the jet emission of FSRQs and BL Lacs is indistinguishable. 2020 The Author(s) Published by Oxford University Press on behalf of the Royal Astronomical Society. -
Search for low-mass objects in the globular cluster M4. I. Detection of variable stars
With every new discovery of an extrasolar planet, the absence of planets in globular clusters (GCs) becomes more and more conspicuous. Null detection of transiting hot Jupiters in GCs 47 Tuc, ? Cen, and NGC 6397 presents an important puzzle, raising questions about the role played by cluster metallicity and environment on formation and survival of planetary systems in densely populated stellar clusters. GCs were postulated to have many free-floating planets, for which microlensing (ML) is an established tool for detection. Dense environments, well-constrained distances and kinematics of lenses and sources, and photometry of thousands of stars simultaneously make GCs the ideal targets to search for ML. We present first results of a multisite, 69-night-long campaign to search for ML signatures of low-mass objects in the GC M4, which was chosen because of its proximity, location, and the actual existence of a planet. M4 was observed in R and I bands by two telescopes, 1 m T40 and 18-inch C18, of the Wise Observatory, Tel Aviv, Israel, from 2011 April to July. Observations on the 1 m telescope were carried out in service mode, gathering 12 to 48 20 s exposures per night for a total of 69 nights. C18 observations were done for about 4 hr a night for six nights in 2011 May. We employ a semiautomated pipeline to calibrate and reduce the images to the light curves that our group is developing for this purpose, which includes the differential photometry package DIAPL, written by Wozniak and modified by W. Pych. Several different diagnostics are employed for search of variability/transients. While no high-significance ML event was found in this observational run, we have detected more than 20 new variables and variable candidates in the M4 field, which we present here. 2016. Measuring Indian Blackbuck Antilope cervicapra (Mammalia: Cetartiodactyla: Bovidae) abundance at Basur Amruth Mahal Kaval Conservation Reserve, Chikkamagaluru, southern India
Grasslands are among the most critically endangered ecosystems in the tropics, but they are often treated as wastelands and conservation efforts are seldom directed towards these landscapes. The Blackbuck Antilope cervicapra is a large wild herbivore found in most grassland ecosystems across India. Despite their critical role in their trophic web, there are no reliable estimates of Blackbuck populations from their geographic range that takes detection probability into consideration. In this study, we conducted field surveys to estimate Blackbuck density in Basur Amruth Mahal Kaval Conservation (BAMKCR) with an area of 7.36km2 in southern India. We surveyed Blackbucks for a week in July 2014 along straight line transects between 09:00-12:00 hr and used the distance sampling approach to address the imperfect detection. A total of three transect lines of lengths 3.01km, 2.4km and 1.2km were sampled for seven temporal replicates. With an effort of 46.27km, 56 sightings of Blackbucks were recorded that was analyzed using the program DISTANCE. With a detection probability of 0.58 (0.053 SD) the estimated density of Blackbuck was 26.23 (6 SD) individuals/km2. The derived abundance estimate was 193 (c. 148-238) individuals in the study area. Our results show implications of a statistically robust design that accounts for imperfect detection. It provides an insight into a resident population of Blackbucks in a dynamic and fragile habitat. Blackbuck density estimate from this study sets the background for periodic monitoring of their populations, examination of the impacts of habitat modifications and gauge long-term viability of the grassland habitat in BAMKCR. Climate-Smart Livelihood - A Case Study of Dodaballapura Taluk of Bangalore Rural District
More than a billion farmers around the world are on the frontier of climate change. These farmers' livelihoods are directly and indirectly affected by the impact of climate change. Climate smart livelihood explains the practices in agriculture sector which sustainably contributes to productivity and income. This study tries to explore the adaptation of climate smart livelihood techniques by the farmers in the Doddaballapur taluk of Bangalore rural district. The data was collected primarily from the five villages and 50 households of Doddaballapur taluk. The survey revealed that 81.67% of the respondents faced problems during adaptation of climate smart agriculture was due to poor support of local and national authorities with climate related issues and ranked it one of the major constraints. This was followed by lack of financial constraints, lack of knowledge about adaptive practices (78.50%), non-availability of agriculture inputs in time (76.17%), lack of education about the adaptation strategies (75.33%), unavailability of new technologies (78.83%), higher cost of the agricultural inputs used for the practices (71.17%), lack of improved communication facility about the climate change (71 %), migration of youth due to urbanization and better employment (70.83%), lack of knowledge about post-harvest technology (68.83%), lack of awareness about climate change issues (59.83 %). The study reveals that as most farmers believe they have low capacity to adapt to climate-smart agriculture due to lack of availability of resources. Effect of COVID-19 on ETF and index efficiency: evidence from an entropy-based analysis
We examine the informational efficiency of domestic equity ETFs vis-a-vis their underlying market indices during the COVID-19 pandemic. To do so, we employ a multiscale entropy-based methodology. Our findings indicate that the informational efficiency of all ETFs as well as the indices fall sharply during the COVID induced market crash in February-March 2020. Having said so, we find disproportionate deterioration in market efficiency of ETFs and indices pertaining to USA and Canada as compared to those of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Interestingly, ETFs and indices pertaining to certain developed markets were found to be less efficient than their emerging market counterparts even during the pre-covid timeline. Lastly, there is a discernible difference between the efficiency of ETFs vis-a-vis their underlying indices. These findings should nudge investors to exercise caution while dealing with ETFs, for domestic ETFs do not exactly mimic the dynamics of their underlying indices. 2021, Academy of Economics and Finance. -
A census of young stellar population associated with the Herbig Be star HD 200775
The region surrounding the well-known reflection nebula, NGC 7023, illuminated by a Herbig Be star, HD 200775, located in the dark cloud L1174 is studied in this work. Based on the distances and proper motion values from Gaia DR2 of 20 previously known young stellar object (YSO) candidates, we obtained a distance of 335 11 pc to the cloud complex L1172/1174. Using polarization measurements of the stars projected on the cloud complex, we show additional evidence for the cloud to be at ?335 pc distance. Using this distance and proper motion values of the YSO candidates, we searched for additional comoving sources in the vicinity of HD 200775 and found 20 new sources, which show low infrared excess emission and are of age ?1 Myr. Among these, 10 YSO candidates and 4 newly identified comoving sources are found to show X-ray emission. Three of the four new sources for which we have obtained optical spectra show H ? in emission. About 80 per cent of the total sources are found within ?1 pc distance from HD 200775. Spatial correlation of some of the YSO candidates with the Herschel dust column density peaks suggests that star formation is still active in the region and may have been triggered by HD 200775. 2020 The Author(s) Published by Oxford University Press on behalf of the Royal Astronomical Society.
