The social representations of academic achievement and failure
This study tried to explore the ways in which the construct of academic achievement and failure is conceptualized and represented among different social categories based on educational roles. It was indicated that social representations of academic achievement and failure function in broader social contexts. Findings also suggested that academic achievement and failure are not the antinomies and have multidimensional aspects which collaborate and have greater bearing on the future social outcomes. The illusion of social class identity and academic performance: Exploring the role of father education as an indicator of socioeconomic status
The academic achievement of low social class students has been attributed to lack of ability and their socioeconomic Status (SES). However, a recent meta-analysis reported decreasing relationship between SES and academic achievement in the U.S. population (Sirin, 2005). The present study attempted to explore the relationship between social class identity processes and academic performance in an Indian context. The study took students' self report on all indicators of SES and separated high and low social class students on the basis of their fathers' education. The result showed that social class based identity process has less important role in explaining the existing academic achievement gap. Thus the need arises to explore other identities that may collaborate with the social class identity in an educational domain. -
OTT Enchantment: Decoding the Secret of Millennials Subscription Intentions
This study explores the factors that affect intention and choices of millennials for subscription of Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms. The study involved a mixed-methods approach, involving exploratory and descriptive design. The outcome of the study showed that there is a profound impact of demographic variables on the subscription intention. Results also indicated that factors like convenient navigation, information seeking, and bingewatching impacted respondents attitudes towards purchasing OTT subscriptions. Moreover, factors like relaxation and voyeurism impacted respondents attitudes towards continuing OTT subscriptions. The research findings will be helpful for OTT companies to implement new distribution strategies with mobile operators to launch novel services like mobile-only packs and sachet pricing and thereby increase their user base. The study contributes significantly in understanding the viewership and subscription patterns of millennials. The study is exclusively an original contribution of the authors. 2024, Econjournals. EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT: ANTECEDENTS AND CONSEQUENCES
Employee engagement is the emotional connection and dedication that employees feel towards their organisation. It is a term used to describe how dedicated, enthusiastic and involved employees are towards/with their job and the organisation they work for. Antecedents are the variables that influence and contribute towards employee engagement, while consequences are the outcomes linked with employee engagement. Attrition of intellectual capital, disengagement with work, issues of conflict with students, lack of job satisfaction, etc. in the centres of higher education are becoming a burgeoning problem and constructive employee engagement is seen as the solution to these issues. The present study aims to examine the factors responsible for employee engagement as well as the outcomes that are derived due to effective implementation of employee-engagement practices. Data has been collected from 117 faculty members of higher-education institutions from South India using simple random sampling. Data has been analysed with the help of Excel, SPSS and AMOS, using statistical tools like T-test, ANOVA and SEM. The proposed model reflects strong positive association between antecedent variables like autonomy, rewards and recognitions, and fair and equitable treatment and employee engagement, and job satisfaction, organisational commitment and intention to stay as the outcomes of employee engagement. 2024 Published by Faculty of Engineering. -

This study sketches the importance of social media, integrated marketing communication, social customer relationship management and its transformation in the small and medium enterprises (SME). These factors can increase interaction and communication of SMEs with its customers. This study incorporates empirical method to elaborate how SMEs can increase visibility and reachability by gaining value through the usage of social media. Acceptance of consumer-oriented health information technologies (chits): Integrating technology acceptance model with perceived risk
This paper is focused on understanding the growing demand for consumer-oriented health information technologies (CHITs) wearable and adult healthcare management apps. This study utilised the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and integrated the concept of perceived risk. The structural Equation Modelling (SEM) technique was applied to test the research hypotheses based on the 450 quantitative responses. This study confirms significant relationships between perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, perceived risk, attitude, behavioural intention, and actual intention in using CHITs. The findings also showed no evidence to conclude that age and education influenced respondents perceived usefulness and perceived ease of the CHITs. This study incorporated the perceived risk to fill a gap in the literature and broaden the current TAM theoretical application in the public health setting. The study findings fill the health-related technology acceptance literature gap and broaden TAM's present application in the public health realm. 2021 Slovene Society Informatika. Do fine dine restaurants satisfy customer needs?Diners perception of functional aspects of quality, value and satisfaction
Objectives: Guest satisfaction has emerged as a potentially important factor in restaurant performance and function. The objective of this paper is to examine the current state of guest satisfaction and factors affecting them in fine dining restaurant through a review of the literature. The review focuses on six determinants and their effect on guest satisfaction. Design: A systematic review of lighting, Type of music, food quality, food quantity, food plating and foodservice about guest satisfaction was performed. Review methods: The literature was derived from the published research articles. The selection criteria for the review included the studies that were; written in English, related to guest satisfaction in the hospitality sector, employee performance in the hospitality sector. Results: The literature review identified five distinct lines of research that have focused on guest satisfaction in fine dining restaurants. Total 52 guest satisfaction based articles referenced in this paper, a sample of 30 studies reported on the examination of antecedents of satisfaction among guests. Key findings suggest that all the five factors that are; lighting, Type of music, food quality, food quantity food plating, and foodservice significantly impact on guest satisfaction. Conclusions: The study of Factors affecting guest satisfaction in a fine dining restaurant helps in the restaurant to build an image in the minds of their guests and creates awareness for Guests on how fine dining functions. Future research is required to provide restaurants a better understanding of their guests for their satisfaction. 2019 SERSC. -
Augmented Reality: New Future of Social Media Influencer Marketing
The advent of social media as a marketing tool has transformed how businesses connect and share information about their brands with their consumers. Amplified consumer engagement has created novel relationships between consumers and companies. Peoples reliance on seeking information from other online users and reviews has increased, and this is where social media influencers play an important role in shaping consumers opinions. Augmented reality will revolutionize the influencer marketing environment due to its ability to engage consumers. This research involved an online survey with questions established on a 7-point Likert scale. Later, exploratory factor analysis was used to summarize data better to understand associations between dependent and independent variables. Later principal component analysis was espoused for the extraction process. Varimax rotation congregated 39 items into various factors. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test was administered to justify the adequacy of the sample. The findings suggest that augmented reality moderates user engagement and is the future of influencer marketing. 2023 MDI. -
Augmented Reality-Enabled Instagram Game Filters: Key to Engaging Customers
The gamification concept is rapidly grabbing attention of different sectors in the current competitive business ecosystem. Companies are amalgamating game elements to enrich customer enhancement. However, empirical studies incorporating Augmented Reality (AR) elements in the same are lacking. Therefore, main objective of this research is to inspect elements of AR, impacting the customer brand engagement in game filters of Instagram. Drawing on S-D Logic the authors aim to explore the impact of gameful experience on creating customer engagement. The capability of Customer Brand Engagement (CBE) to influence Brand Satisfaction (BS) and Brand loyalty (BL) is also explored in the study. Convenient sampling method was adopted to gather 458 responses from Gen Z in India. Responses were gathered using self-administered questionnaire. Findings of the study expand CBE literature to a new technology and refines knowledge of relationship between AR and preexisting CBE dimensions (affective, cognitive and activation), leading to BS and BL. Happiness and resilience among young physically disadvantaged employees in India: A pilot study
Purpose: The study aimed to examine and compare the happiness and resilience of disadvantaged employees and non-disadvantaged employees. Method: The study sample included 37 young employees, between 20 and 30 years of age. Among them, 17 were with physical disadvantages of one type or the other, and 20 had no physical disadvantages. Results: Mann-Whitney U test showed that there is no difference in resilience and happiness between disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged employees. Among the non-disadvantaged employees, there is a relationship between happiness and resilience. However, among the disadvantaged employees, this relationship is not there. Conclusions: Disadvantaged employees in the present sample do not differ from the non-disadvantaged in their happiness and resilience. However, it cannot be assumed that happiness is a contributing factor to the resilience of the disadvantaged employees. Gastronomic delights for community growth: unravelling the impact of sustainable tourism in Sikkim, India
Community development (CD) and sustainable gastronomy tourism development (SGTD) are mutually beneficial. Therefore, this study calls for a thorough investigation and interpretation of the phenomenon. In the context of Sikkim, India, this study examines the effects of SGTD on CD. The research question of whether sustainable gastronomy tourism (SGT) influences CD is addressed through a narrative analysis. The stories of ten local food vendors are gathered and examined using the categorical-content approach. However, the narratives indicate that local food vendors do believe that SGTD can act as a catalyst for local development, and that using traditional food as an alternative source of income can offer them a number of benefits. Other facets of gastronomic tourism are identified in the stories that may have unfavourable effects. Several ways to promote SGTD are suggested. The paper concludes that, to endorse gastronomic tourism (GT), local community involvement and strict policies are crucial. Copyright 2024 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd. -
An augmented artificial bee colony algorithm for data aggregation in wireless sensor networks
As wireless sensor networks comprise of a vast number of resource constrained tiny sensor nodes which are designed to operate for a long period of time, it is inevitable to efficiently utilize the available resources. Even though energy harvesting approaches exist, energy efficiency in these networks remains the primary concern. Innovative data collection methods help in the optimal utilization of the confined resources like energy, memory and processing capabilities. Majority of the energy is consumed for data transmission in contrast to sensing and processing. Adopting self-organizing system intelligence of the nature for modern advancements is effective and efficient. This paper provides a gist of the existing bio-inspired routing algorithms and describes a new energy efficient data collection strategy with mobile sinks in wireless sensor networks. Time Efficient Hash Key Generation for Blockchain Enabled Framework
Blockchain, in general, helps organizations to improve the transparency and governance by removing its shortfalls and building better control overall. Blockchain network, public or private, is a competent technology when used in order with an optimized hashing technique. In a blockchain network, one of the common issues is performance while registering any transactions. Blockchain must need to do some preliminary checks to avoid double-spending before registering the transaction. Here, we implement one of the optimization aspects of the hashing technique, which can contribute to the blockchain mining processes and save time. It enables the blockchain to perform efficiently and reliably. In addition, we examine how well different hashing algorithms perform when added to the blockchain network's processes. In this research, we analyze several hashing techniques that are employed in the blockchain and are also applied in the supply chain domain due to their efficacy in mitigating past attacks. Our proposed hashing technique allows a blockchain network to improve security and its overall processes. The proposed hashing technique achieves approx. 10-90% performance gain improvements over other existing technique. Our proposed hashing technique allows a blockchain network to improve security and its overall processes. The study also examines how the supply chain management contributes in increasing of overall lead time where process optimization or technological enhancement plays key roles in minimizing the time of some or all the processes. Lead time is one of the common issues of supply chain which impacts on overall order delivery time. Analyzing students academic performance using multilayer perceptron model
Identification of the students behavior in the class room environment is very important. It helps the lecturer to identify the needs of the students. It also aids in identifying the strength and weakness of the individual and guide them to improve on their performance. Observing and supervising the students regularly can improve their performance. The data has been collected from 120 students who took the common the course taught by two different lectures. The students were observed based on the internal assignments and quizzes and the model exam given by the respective lecturers. In this paper the students are categorized into different groups based on their performance using Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) and also different factors which are influencing the performance of the students are identified.
