Effects of reduced graphene oxide on nonlinear absorption and optical limiting properties of spin coated aluminium doped zinc oxide thin films
In this work, we investigate the nonlinear absorption and optical limiting properties of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) incorporated aluminum doped zinc oxide (AZO) composite thin films by open aperture z-scan technique using Q-switched Nd:YAG laser at 532 nm. The structural and spectral properties were also systemically analyzed. The composite thin films were synthesized by spin coating technique with online infrared curing facility. Studies on nonlinear optical responses of the investigated samples proved a substantial enhancement in the nonlinear absorption coefficient of AZO:rGO composites compared to AZO thin film. The nonlinear absorption is attributed to the two photon absorption with reverse saturable absorption. The strong nonlinear absorption and nonlinear scattering effects result in the optical limiting property of the composite material. The AZO:rGO thin film exhibits lower optical limiting threshold value (32 MW/cm2) as compared to AZO (59 MW/cm2). Hence it is an excellent optical limiter which explores applications in the field of optoelectronics as protecting material for sensitive photonic devices. 2021 -
Indoor location tracking using time of arrival estimation method
Background & Objective: Location-based services enable collection of location-oriented information which finds use in various fields. Methods: With its utility found in so many applications, various localization techniques are adopted to improve these services. One such property of a signal which is used for these estimations is known as Time of Arrival property. The Time of Arrival property of a signal is the time difference for a signal to go from the transmitter to the receiver. The most common application is to navigate through places, finding or tracking your personal belongings, targeted advertisements by knowing the nearby popular places and various other services like augmented reality gaming among others. Results & Conclusion: Through this paper, we demonstrate a method to track the location of a mobile sensor node using Trilateration algorithm with the help of Time of Arrival (ToA) property of signals. The time of arrival of packets at each node is recorded and data collected from the simulation of a wireless sensor network for this experiment is spread across various distributions to find the op-timum statistical inference. 2020 BenthamScience Publishers. -
COMMENSALITY AND CULTURE: A SEMIOTIC READING OF IGBO TRIBAL LIFE IN CHINUA ACHEBES THINGS FALL APART
Foodin literary production signifies the culturalandcross-culturalrelations from which it is produced. The emergence of Literary Food Studies engages food as a signifier to magnify human relations and emotions. Food is a mosaic system of signs symbolising diasporic, class, caste, racial, and gender relations. The paper focuses on commensality, one of the mushrooming trends in literary food studies. Commensality is the act of eating together that helps to build relationships and create conviviality, the social pleasure among people. It helps to reinforce the identity and sense of belongingness among the community members. Drawing on the theoretical readings from Mary Douglas and Arjun Appadurais semiotics of food, the paper explores the possibilities of commensality in Chinua Achebes Things Fall Apart. The paper tries to argue that, commensality and its food practices along with representing togetherness could also symbolise the complex cultural functioning of the Igbo tribal community. The ingredients of the commensality, the culinary tools, and the order of eating convey cultural meanings. It throws light into the hierarchy and various power relations existing in the community. Impact of Livelihood Strategies on the Dependence on Agriculture in Arid Regions of Andhra Pradesh, India
The livelihood risks tend to change households capital, assets, or resources by impacting the value of their asset portfolio. This study attempts to understand various risks and how these risks affect the farming communitys livelihoods in the designated areas. Also, this research attempts to understand the relationships between risks and livelihood capital to develop effective measures to improve their well-being and suggest various policies to help farmers cope with these risks in the most effective ways. The study used a sample of 827 farmers from Andhra Pradesh, India. The ordinal logistic regression findings revealed that knowledge capital (knowledge on nutrient deficiency, disease and pests and access to information), social capital (community membership and access to natural resources and services) and financial capitals have a significant impact on the selection of livelihood strategies. 2022 Management Development Institute. -
Green Bonds: A Propitious Financial Instrument of Climate Finance
Green bonds are a comparatively recent investment mechanism for green initiatives and are perceived as the first line of climate change protection. The aim of the article is to decide if the issuing of a green bond is perceived to be good news for market players, and also to ascertain whether developing markets, relative to established markets, are more inclined towards green bonds to tackle climate change. The study used an international sample of recent green bond issues and illustrated the possible effects of the issuing of a green bond for the issuer. A sample of 392 green bonds released from 2017 to 2020 is included. Event study methodology is used to analyse investor response to green bond issuance. Over the years, emerging markets have been found to be keen on greening projects by green bonds, much in line with established markets. The findings suggest that on the day of issuance of the green bonds the stock market responds adversely and reacts positively after the day. Hence statistical technique is applied on different event windows to obtain the cumulative abnormal returns (CAR). Statistical analysis concludes that the market responds adversely to the issuing of a green bond. This influence is particularly evident in the first issuing of green bonds and in developing markets. This research shows that proposals of green debt transmit unfavourable knowledge about the issuing companies. These results are relevant only in the case of green bonds issued by listed firms. 2023 MDI. -
Study on heat transfer and pressure drop in tube-in-tube helical heat exchanger
The present work aims to investigate the effect of different configurations of the tube-in-tube helically coiled heat exchanger. Commercial CFD codes were used to predict the fluid flow and heat transfer in a tube-in-tube helical heat exchanger. The model of different configurations of the inner tube has been simulated by varying the Dean number. The numerical results are verified and found to be in good agreement with reported data in the literature. Nusselt Number and friction factor are evaluated for different angular positions. The use of geometry E increases the Nusselt number and friction factor by 19.05% and 16% respectively at a Dean number of 4000 as compared with a circular tube as compared with the circular tube. 2021 Tamkang University. Optimal Allocation of Renewable Sources with Battery and Capacitors in Radial Feeders for Reliable Power Supply Using Pathfinder Algorithm
Allocating renewable energy systems (RESs) in an electrical distribution system (EDS) is crucial to achieving various objectives. However, their intermittency presents several challenges. In this connection, an efficient meta-heuristic pathfinder algorithm (PFA) is employed to determine the optimal location and size of photovoltaic (PV) and wind turbine (WT) systems, along with energy storage systems (ESS) and capacitor banks (CB) for both grid and islanding modes of operations. An objective function was formulated for loss reduction, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and voltage profile improvement. The simulation results for the IEEE 33-bus EDS system are shown for two cases: grid-connected and islanding. The computational effectiveness of the PFA was compared with that reported in the literature. The PFA results showed an outstanding ability to resolve difficult optimisation problems. In addition, the optimal size of the RES when the network operates in the grid-connected mode can significantly improve the performance. The real power losses and GHG emissions were reduced by 48.49 % and 67.75% with PV systems and the other, respectively, whereas WT systems they are reduced to 69.68 % and 67.85 %, respectively. However, a combination of ESS, CB, and PV/WT can render the EDN sustainable for the islanding mode of operations. The Author(s). -
A Markovian risk model with possible by-claims and dividend barrier
A MAP/PH risk model with possible by-claims and a dividend barrier is considered. Along with the main claim, a by-claim also can occur with a certain probability but by-claims are settled only after an inquiry and hence delayed. The model is analysed considering associated Markovian fluid models under the original timeline and an auxiliary timeline. Systems of integro differential equations (IDE) are developed for the Gerber-Shiu function (GSF) and the total dividends paid until ruin. Explicit expressions are obtained for the GSF of the models without and then with the barrier. Expressions are also provided for the moments of the total dividends paid until ruin. A dividends-penalty identity is given. The method is numerically illustrated with a two-phase model and sensitivity analysis of the model is done by varying some of the parameters involved. 2023 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.. K shell X-ray intensity ratios, K-Li, K-L, and K-M vacancy transfer probabilities of Ba and Tl following internal conversion process
K shell X-rays of barium and thallium following internal conversion decay in Cs137 and Hg203, respectively, were detected using a Si(Li) X-ray detector coupled to PC-based 8k multichannel analyser employing the method suggested earlier by our group. The K shell X-ray intensity ratios and vacancy transfer probabilities for thallium and barium were calculated. The obtained results are compared with theoretical, semiempirical, and others' experimental results obtained via photoionization as well as decay processes. The effects of beta decay and internal conversion on X-ray emission probabilities are discussed. 2014 Published by NRC Research Press. -
Role of psychological well-being, quality of life and distress tolerance in caregivers of geriatric population: an Indian exploratory study
Purpose: This study aims to gain an understanding of how caring for an ageing population affects caregivers psychological well-being, quality of life and ability to tolerate distress. This study provides valuable insights into the challenges faced by family caregivers and underscores the critical need for comprehensive support systems. Design/methodology/approach: A correlational method and cross-sectional research design was used for the study. For this, a sample of 200 caregivers in the age range of 2560 years who were taking care of the geriatric population above the age of 70 years for a minimum of one year were chosen. Four questionnaires ? Burden Scale for Family Caregivers, Psychological Well-Being Scale, World Health Organizations Quality of Life Scale-BRIEF version and Distress Tolerance Scale were chosen. Correlation and multivariate regression were calculated using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) 21 and Jamovi 3.4.1. Findings: This study found that there is a negative correlation of caregiver burden with psychological well-being, quality of life and distress tolerance. The sub-domains of self-acceptance, psychological health and tolerance levels were most impacted for the caregivers. Through multivariate regression, it was found that the caregiver burden significantly predicted psychological well-being and quality of life. Research limitations/implications: This study focuses on the English-speaking caregivers which may overlook the diverse linguistic and cultural variations within the broader caregiver community in India and the data collection exclusively targeted family caregivers providing support to geriatric population without chronic illnesses. This restriction could potentially limit the generalizability of the findings to the broader caregiving context. Practical implications: The implications of this research are that for caregivers, this study underscores the importance of tailored support programmes that address the negative impact of caregiver burden on psychological well-being and quality of life. Health-care professionals can use the findings to incorporate mental health assessments and interventions within caregiving contexts, recognizing the interconnected nature of these variables. Policymakers can use the findings to inform policies related to caregiver support and health-care resource allocation. Originality/value: In India, the social norm is that children are expected to take care of their parents when they become old. Taking care of elderly parents can be challenging, even emotionally. As a result, this study will focus on how caregivers psychological well-being, quality of life and ability to tolerate distress are affected. Consequently, promoting the creation of community support groups and workplace mental health programmes which could give caregivers a forum to voice their concerns. 2024, Emerald Publishing Limited. -
Ultrasound assisted Friedel-Crafts acylation of aromatics using ferric sulphate as catalyst
The use of ultrasound in the acylation reactions of various aromatics and polyaromatics with different acyl chlorides, in the presence of catalytic amount of ferric sulphate at room temperature, gives good yields of the respective ketones with a short reaction time. A facile and simple synthesis of various aromatic ketones using Friedel-Crafts acylation has been established from the corresponding acid chlorides and aromatic or polyaromatic compounds, respectively under mild reaction conditions with shorter reaction times (30-45 min) and in reasonable yields. This method offers the advantage of low cost and ease of purification of the products because of the small amount of ferric sulphate used in these reactions. -

Machine intelligence security : A methodological blend of fuzzy logic in industry 4.0 algorithms
The way things are made has changed a lot because of Industry 4.0. It has also led to a time with great technology and relationships. The paper discusses way to improve security in Machine Intelligence in the setting of Industry 4.0. The study uses a mix of methods to combine Fuzzy Logic with cutting-edge Industry 4.0 algorithms in order to deal with new hacking problems. Because fuzzy logic can deal with doubt and imprecision, it can be used to make current methods more reliable. This creates a complex and flexible security structure. The merger was carefully planned to make the methods for finding anomalies, reducing threats, and responding to incidents work better. The suggested method aims to make machine intelligence systems more resistant to complex cyber dangers by combining the best parts of Fuzzy Logic with Industry 4.0 algorithms. This study adds to the growing conversation about how to keep smart factory settings safe by focusing on a proactive and dynamic security model. The influences of lateral groups on 4-cyanobiphenyl-benzonitrile- based dimers
Cyanobiphenyl-based compounds are known to display RT or low melting liquid crystals in a single-component system or composites. Herein, we discuss the influence of laterally substituted groups (-CN, -F, -H) on 4-[?-(4-cyanobiphenyl-4-yloxy)alk-1-yloxy]benzonitrile. Three series of new dimers were synthesised by using 4-cyano-4-hydroxybiphenyl connected via flexible spacers with different number of carbon atoms to 4-hydroxyphthalonitrile/ 2-fluoro-4-hydroxy benzonitrile/ 4-hydroxy benzonitrile. Their self-assembly in LC phases assessed by polarising optical microscopy (POM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-ray diffraction studies, and their behaviours are compared with related non-substituted (-H) model compound. UV-Visible and fluorescent experiments confirm the strong aggregation, the intensities of emission decrease as we move from CN?F?H substitutions. A representative dimer from each series covering the aspect of polarity and flexibility have been simulated using 1000 minimisation steepest descent and CHARMM force filed to examine their self-assembly. Irreversibility analysis of radiative heat transport of Williamson material over a lubricated surface with viscous heating and internal heat source
Thecurrent research explores the importance of surface lubrication and convective boundary conditions in the flow of non-Newtonian Williamson material. Rosseland radiative heat flux and viscous heating are also considered. The phenomenon of the generation or absorption of internal heat is studied. The conservation laws of momentum, mass, and energy are used to model the problem with suitable boundary conditions. With the help of appropriate transformations and the finite difference method, highly nonlinear equations of governance are solved. The influence of key parameters on Bejan number, velocity, entropy production, temperature profiles are analyzed by parametric analysis. It was found that the entropy generation rate improves due to the presence of the Rosseland radiative heat flux and the convective boundary on the lubricated surface. The sliding condition on the lubricated surface has lengthened the structure of the velocity boundary layer, while this trend is opposite to the thermal field. The dissipation due to the viscous forces of the Williamson material improves the production of entropy. 2021 Wiley Periodicals LLC -
Entropy generation and thermal analyses of a Cross fluid flow through an inclined microchannel with non-linear mixed convection
The temperature difference of the various applications such as microchannel heat exchangers, microelectronics, solar collectors, automotive systems, micro fuel cells, and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) is relatively large. The buoyancy force (mixed convection) modeled by the conventional Boussinesq approximation is inadequate since the density of the operating fluids fluctuates non-linearly with the temperature difference. Therefore, the mixed non-linear convective transport of the flow of Cross fluid through three different geometric aspects (horizontal, vertical, and inclined) of the microchannel under the non-linear Boussinesq (NBA) approximation is investigated. Mechanisms of internal heat source, Rosseland radiative heat flux, and frictional heating are incorporated into the thermal analysis. The mathematical construction is proposed using the Cross fluid model for a steady-state, and subsequent non-linear differential equations are deciphered by the spectral quasi-linearization method (SQLM). Graphical sketches were constructed and displayed that explore the stimulus of various key parameters on Bejan number, velocity, temperature, and entropy generation. It is found that the Bejan number and entropy production improved due to the non-linear density temperature variation. The convective heating boundary conditions augment the entropy production. The pressure gradient accelerates the transport of fluid in a microchannel. Furthermore, among three different geometries, the velocity, entropy production, and temperature are the highest for the vertical microchannel. 2023 Wiley-VCH GmbH. -
Entropy generation analysis of tangent hyperbolic fluid in quadratic Boussinesq approximation using spectral quasi-linearization method
In many industrial applications, heat transfer and tangent hyperbolic fluid flow processes have been garnering increasing attention, owing to their immense importance in technology, engineering, and science. These processes are relevant for polymer solutions, porous industrial materials, ceramic processing, oil recovery, and fluid beds. The present tangent hyperbolic fluid flow and heat transfer model accurately predicts the shear-thinning phenomenon and describes the blood flow characteristics. Therefore, the entropy production analysis of a non-Newtonian tangent hyperbolic material flow through a vertical microchannel with a quadratic density temperature fluctuation (quadratic/nonlinear Boussinesq approximation) is performed in the present study. The impacts of the hydrodynamic flow and Newtons thermal conditions on the flow, heat transfer, and entropy generation are analyzed. The governing nonlinear equations are solved with the spectral quasi-linearization method (SQLM). The obtained results are compared with those calculated with a finite element method and the bvp4c routine. In addition, the effects of key parameters on the velocity of the hyperbolic tangent material, the entropy generation, the temperature, and the Nusselt number are discussed. The entropy generation increases with the buoyancy force, the pressure gradient factor, the non-linear convection, and the Eckert number. The non-Newtonian fluid factor improves the magnitude of the velocity field. The power-law index of the hyperbolic fluid and the Weissenberg number are found to be favorable for increasing the temperature field. The buoyancy force caused by the nonlinear change in the fluid density versus temperature improves the thermal energy of the system. 2021, Shanghai University. -
Factors influencing dynamic capabilities of entrepreneurial-led organisations to achieve analytical transformation
Entrepreneurial spirit transforms the economic scenario resulting in a significant contribution to society. Analytical transformation enables entrepreneurs with superior effective decision-making capability through information gathering, advanced technology adoption and data analysis. Effective analysis leads to superior organisational performance. However, in entrepreneurial-led large Indian organisations, the adoption of analytics is limited to predicting results. The study aims to identify the key factors that impact analytical transformation. The study also aims to identify key dynamic capabilities to achieve such transformation. This article identifies base theories related to the identified concepts. This article aims to develop an analytical transformation capability model for entrepreneurial-driven large industries. This study also empirically validates the proposed research model. The study concludes that entrepreneurial-led large Indian technology-driven industries lag behind their technology peers in adopting prescriptive analytics. Best unbiased estimation and CAN property in the stable M/M/1 queue
The Uniform Minimum Variance Unbiased (UMVU) estimators of ??, the probability of having ? or more customers, L, the expected system size, Lq, the expected number of customers in the queue, and, the expected number of customers in a non empty queue, are derived based on a random sample of fixed size n on system size at departure points from the geometric distribution on the support {0, 1, 2,.} with mean, which is the distribution of system size in M/M/1 queueing system in equilibrium. The derivations are based on application of Lehmann-Scheffe theorem. Also, CAN estimators of performance measures are derived. Investigation of electrical properties of developed indigenous natural ester liquid used as alternate to transformer insulation
The performance of every electrical system depends on the different electrical devices especially transformers. Petroleum-based mineral oil is widely used for insulation and cooling purpose. The disadvantage of mineral oil is its low biodegradability and is a major threat to the ecosystem due to its poor oxidative stability. To remedy the drawbacks, focus on alternative fluids that can replace traditional mineral oil. Alternative liquids such as natural esters are used which do not panic the ecosystem. With the support of additives in natural esters liquids, the productivity of the oil can be increased, paving the path for the green conversion of liquids in high voltage applications. The purpose of this article is to analyze the electrical properties of the newly developed indigenous oil. The inhibited oil was insulating oil to which antioxidants were added such as 2,6-ditertiary-butylparacresol, butylated hydroxyl anisole and tertiary butyl hydro qunine to slow down the oxidation rate and to check the electrical properties. This article discusses the electrical properties of mineral oil, developed indigenous oil with and without antioxidants as per IEC62770 standards. A 1.1 kVA transformer was then designed in a laboratory for load tests and Indigenous oil performance under load was evaluated. 2023 Institute of Advanced Engineering and Science.
