Use of DEMATEL and COPRAS method to select best alternative fuel for control of impact of greenhouse gas emissions
Generation of energy is a vital process for sustenance of human life. Quality of human life is undoubtedly linked to the efficient generation and use of energy. The choice of alternative fuels is of the utmost significance due to the decline of fossil fuel reserves and their effect on global warming. One of the most important areas of research all over the world is the generation and distribution of sustainable energy. There are, in fact, many sustainable fuel resources. In this study, we describe the problem of selecting alternate fuel using novel types of hesitant multi criteria decision-making equation methods. The considered fuel systems are Electricity, natural gas, biodiesel, ethanol, and propane. In the selection of alternative fuels, quantity, quality of performance, cost, and efficiency among others, have to be taken into account. The alternatives selected should, for example, increase the speed of buses, and provide for greater mileage while and not affecting the environment. Here, the DEMATEL (Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory Model) method is used to determine the weights of the criteria and the COPRAS (Complex Proportional Assessment) method is used to calculate the ranking of the alternatives. The main objective of this research paper is to select the best alternative, based on environmental safety, CO2 emission level, technical cost, and fuel cost. Thus a better alternative is selected with the selected alternatives and criteria. The results of this research are summarized as follows. These are natural gas ( R2 ) > propane ( R5 ) > biodiesel ( R3 ) > electricity ( R1 ) > ethanol (R4 ). The numeric values of these selected alternatives are R2=1>R5=0.5215>R3=0.4904>R1=0.4887>R4=0.3299. 2020 Elsevier Ltd -
Usefulness of Augmented Reality on Product Selection: An Experimental Study
Augmented Reality (AR) has brought a revolution in the business world. Most literature in augmented reality is concentrated on the acceptance, responses, and user-friendliness of AR applications. However, it fails to evaluate the ability of AR applications to aid the customer in product selection. Therefore, the primary aim of this study was to fill this gap in the literature by conducting an experimental study to evaluate the furniture selection enabled by AR application. The respondents for the study were grouped into two (experimental and control groups) and were asked to design a room. The respondents in the experimental group were asked to design a room by providing an AR application, and the control group was asked to design a room without an AR application. These designs were evaluated by 15 professionals on five parameters- harmony, volume, design, colour scheme and positioning. The ratings given by these professionals were analysed using a t-test. From the analysis, it was concluded that according to the interior designers' opinion, the AR application proves to be helpful to the customers in creating better room designs. These findings indicate that AR application increases customer ability to select appropriate furniture for designing their homes. Based on these findings, it can be suggested that the AR applications can be used in the furniture selection process for a better choice of furniture. 2022 SCMS Group of Educational Institutions. User request scheduling for multimedia resource using improved fuzzy logic with hybrid lyapunov based algorithm in hybrid cloud
The hybrid cloud provides vast opportunity to access the varied resources for effective provisioning of services to its users. The proposed scheduling algorithm uses the K-Nearest Neighbor(KNN) to locate the current location of the user and the nearest available computing resource. The Improved Fuzzy Logic (IFL) is applied for improving the resource balancing so that the resources are better utilized for the scheduling process. The wastage of resource usage and ideal resource are reduced considerably. The HLA scheduling is applied with the IFL, and based on the waiting of the jobs; the slots are allocated with jobs for execution. All the jobs are executed successfully with minimized execution time and makespan of the workflow application request. The performances of three algorithms are measured with parameters such as execution time, makespan time, in millisecond (ms). The execution speed is measured as throughput in MIPS (Millions of Instruction per Second). The resource utilization and usage of VMs are increased in the proposed scheduling algorithm resulting in a less number of ideal resources and reduced application cost. BEIESP. -

Using Academic Performance Indicator to Evaluate the Cost to Company of Management Graduates
As the placement season hits CBS Business School, India, the pressure to get placed is at its peak. As the placement season draws to a close, the unplaced students storm the Directors office complaining about unfair treatment in the process. They lay blame on the random shortlisting followed by the Placement co-ordinator. Concerned with these allegations, the Director calls on faculty to investigate the situation. During the conversation one of the students, Rachit, expresses regret in not focusing solely on academics and instead on developing a more well-rounded profile. He feels that that is the reason for his failure to get placed. A fundamental question arises of how closely academic performance and Cost to Company (CTC) are related. Data is collected to examine the validity of the long-held belief that higher academic performance leads to higher paying job placement. 2022 NeilsonJournals Publishing. -
Using Behavioural Economics to Analyse and Enhance Contraception Usage Decisions
Existent literature helped narrow down variables influencing modern contraceptive adoption (usage), a behaviour carrying enormous positive externality. Using finite population sample size formula and probability proportional to size method of sample selection, primary data was collected from participants using inclusion and exclusion criterions. Binary logistic regression model was used to predict probability of occurrence of dependent variable usage of modern method of contraception being treated at a dichotomous outcome level. Predictor variables after confirming association by cross tabulation were introduced stepwise to build model subject to elimination of those variables adding insignificantly to the overall predictability of the model. Variables such as gender, education level, spousal influence, extended family influence, financial well-being and contraceptive information were found to significantly predict the probability of occurrence of the dependent variable. Except for financial well-being with three sub-categories, other independent variables were treated at dichotomous level. Income level was found to be an important predictor although found statistically insignificant. Non-contributory factors such as age, occupation and years of marriage were dropped. Post-model construction, borrowing nudges from behavioural economics (BE) domain, strategies to nurture the significant context specific influencing variables, were articulated. BE was particularly preferred for its openness to the paradigm of non-rational behavioural choices. 2022 SAGE Publications. -

Utilization of CO2 for Electrocarboxylation of Benzophenone Using MXene-Based Electrodes: A Sustainable Approach
The significant rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) levels has prompted the need to develop efficient methods for CO2 conversion and fixation methods. Electrocarboxylation reaction is a highly efficient and sustainable method for activating and utilizing CO2, yielding essential carboxylic acids and their analogues, which are important intermediates in the pharmaceutical and fuel industries. This research demonstrates the efficiency of 2D Ti3C2Tx and Ta2CTx MXene-modified carbon fiber paper electrodes (Ti3C2Tx/CFP and Ta2CTx/CFP) for CO2 fixation with benzophenone in a tetrabutylammonium bromide/acetonitrile (TBABr/CH3CN) medium, yielding benzilic acid. Ti3C2Tx/CFP exhibited superior electrocatalytic activity with a lower reduction potential for benzophenone at ?1.0 V and achieved a 72% yield of benzilic acid at an optimum current density of 50 mA cm-2. In comparison, Ta2CTx/CFP exhibited a cathodic peak at ?1.08 V, producing a 66% yield at 70 mA cm-2. The electron paramagnetic resonance spectrum substantiates the generation of reactive radical intermediates during the reaction. Ti3C2Tx/CFP showed robust structural stability with ?88% Faradaic efficiency and a turnover frequency of 1.90444 10-5 s-1, indicating its potential for CO2 fixation. 2024 American Chemical Society. -
Utilization of IoT-Based Healthcare System and Vital Data Monitoring of patients
The next generation of technology, known as the Internet of Things (IoT), will provide a comprehensive system that connects different domains, functions, and innovations. With the increasing demand for elderly care due to the growing ageing population, health monitoring systems have become increasingly important. Continuous monitoring is required in ICU to monitor the health conditions of patients. In cases where patients are released from the hospital, they are advised to rest and observed for a certain period, and the IoT system is very helpful in such cases. This article primarily discusses the implementation of a precise autonomous medical facility management system using IoT. In the past, only current data was displayed, and the patients history could not be accessed. In this study, we propose an IoT-based healthcare system for continuous monitoring of a patients health conditions. The healthcare system focuses on measuring and monitoring various biological parameters of the patients body, such as heart rate, blood oxygen saturation level, and temperature, using a web server and an Android application. Doctors can continuously monitor the patients condition on their smart phones using the Android application. Moreover, the patients history will be stored on the web server, and doctors can access the information from anywhere without being physically present. RJPT All right reserved. -
Utilization of Iron Ore Tailings for the Production of Fly Ash - GGBS-Based Geopolymer Bricks
In India, million tons of manufacturing ravages such as ground-granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS), fly ash and mine tailings, are endangering. These ravages turn out to be injurious as they are landfilled close to the production sites and somewhere else. Since these manufacturing ravages include silica, alumina, calcium, etc., it is probable to formulate these as unprocessed resources to produce building substance which diminishes the carbon trace. In this circumstance, this analysis observes on utilizing iron ore tailings and slag sand as a substitution for clay or natural sand for the construction of steady geopolymer obstruct. Furthermore, in this analysis, geopolymer is utilized as a binder rather than cement. Expansion of geopolymer binder-oriented bricks with fly ash and GGBS has been implemented in this study. The analysis consists of automatic possessions of the geopolymer bricks. Sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) resolution have been employed as alkaline activators. The proportion of alkaline liquid to aluminosilicate solid quotient and fraction of binder encompass foremost control on the force of brick. The bricks were casted and cured at ambient warmth. The compressive strength was tested at 7, 14 and 28 days. 2017 World Scientific Publishing Company. -
UV-C and gamma radiation mediated L-DOPA production from in-vitro cultures of Mucuna pruriens (L.) DC
This is the first report on UV-C and gamma rays mediated in-vitro elicitation of L-DOPA from Mucuna pruriens (L.) DC. cell suspension cultures. Gamma and ultraviolet rays are used on plants to induce mutations which results in activation of defence cascades and production of secondary metabolites due to this abiotic stress. The in-vitro callus developed from 0.5mg/L picloram was suspended into liquid medium and exposed to different time intervals (0, 15, 30, 45 and 60min) of UV-C radiations. On the other hand, the seeds were directly exposed to different doses (25, 50, 100, 150 and 200Gy) of gamma radiations and these irradiated seeds were grown in-vitro from which callus and cell cultures were established. From all these in-vitro cultures, the anti-Parkinsons drug L-DOPA was quantified using HPLC. 60 and 30-minute exposure of UV-C radiations resulted in highest biomass (193.27g/L FW) and L-DOPA production (5.13mg/g DW) respectively both showing a 1.5-fold increase than the control. In gamma radiation studies, 100Gy (Gy) dose showed the highest (83%) seed germination rate, 150Gy increased the in-vitro root and shoot length, while 100Gy increased the biomass of the cell cultures. Also, 150Gy dose showed a 6.1, 2.6 and 2.4-fold increase in L-DOPA production in the in-vitro roots, in-vitro shoots, and cell suspension culture respectively when compared to the control. UV light exposure of 30min and 150Gy doses of gamma radiation showed a significant increase in L-DOPA production. The Author(s) under exclusive licence to Society for Plant Research 2024. -
UV-Promoted Metal- and Photocatalyst-Free Direct Conversion of Aromatic Aldehydes to Nitriles
Abstract: An efficient, simple, and catalyst-free UV-induced functional group transformation of aromatic aldehydes to nitriles has been reported. The developed strategy delivers various functionalized aromatic nitriles with high yields and purity. The UV irradiation activates the carbonyl group of aldehydes and leads to the formation of aldoxime intermediate, further resulting in the generation of nitriles. The striking highlights of the reported methodology are simple reaction conditions, good yields, UV-promoted transformation, and catalyst-free synthesis. Due to the above-mentioned advantages, the methodology provides a whip hand toward environmentally friendly chemical synthesis. 2022, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. -
UVIT Observations of the Small Magellanic Cloud: Point-source Catalog
Three fields in the outskirts of the Small Magellanic Cloud were observed by the UltraViolet Imaging Telescope (UVIT) on board AstroSat, between 2017 December 31 and 2018 January 1. The observations were carried out on a total of seven filters, three in the far-ultraviolet (FUV; 1300-1800 band and four in the near-ultraviolet (NUV; 2000-3000 band. We carried out photometry of these observations that have a spatial resolution better than 1.?5. We present here the first results of this work, which is a matched catalog of 11,241 sources detected in three FUV and four NUV wavelengths. We make the catalog available online, which would be of use to the astronomical community to address a wide variety of astrophysical problems. We provide an expression to estimate the total count rate in the full point-spread function of UVIT that also incorporates the effect of saturation. 2023. The Author(s). UVIT observations of the star-forming ring in NGC 7252: Evidence of possible AGN feedback suppressing central star formation
Context. Some post-merger galaxies are known to undergo a starburst phase that quickly depletes the gas reservoir and turns it into a red-sequence galaxy, though the details are still unclear. Aims. Here we explore the pattern of recent star formation in the central region of the post-merger galaxy NGC 7252 using high-resolution ultraviolet (UV) images from the UVIT on ASTROSAT. Methods. The UVIT images with 1.2 and 1.4 arcsec resolution in the FUV and NUV are used to construct a FUV-NUV colour map of the central region. Results. The FUV-NUV pixel colour map for this canonical post-merger galaxy reveals a blue circumnuclear ring of diameter ?10?? (3.2 kpc) with bluer patches located over the ring. Based on a comparison to single stellar population models, we show that the ring is comprised of stellar populations with ages ? 300 Myr, with embedded star-forming clumps of younger age (? 150Myr). Conclusions. The suppressed star formation in the central region, along with the recent finding of a large amount of ionised gas, leads us to speculate that this ring may be connected to past feedback from a central super-massive black hole that has ionised the hydrogen gas in the central ?4?? ?1.3 kpc. UVIT view of Centaurus A: A detailed study on positive AGN feedback
Supermassive black holes at the centre of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) produce relativistic jets that can affect the star formation characteristics of the AGN hosts. Observations in the ultraviolet (UV) band can provide an excellent view of the effect of AGN jets on star formation. Here, we present a census of star formation properties in the Northern Star-forming Region (NSR) that spans about 20 kpc of the large radio source Centaurus A hosted by the giant elliptical galaxy NGC 5128. In this region, we identified 352 UV sources associated with Cen A using new observations at an angular resolution of <1.5 arcsec observed with the Ultra-Violet Imaging Telescope (UVIT) onboard AstroSat. These observations were carried out in one far-ultraviolet (FUV; ?mean = 1481 and three near-ultraviolet (NUV; with ?mean of 2196, 2447, and 2792 respectively) bands. The star-forming sources identified in UV tend to lie in the direction of the jet of Cen A, thereby suggesting jet triggering of star formation. Separating the NSR into Outer and Inner regions, we found the stars in the Inner region to have a relatively younger age than the Outer region, suggesting that the two regions may have different star formation histories. We also provide the UVIT source catalogue in the NSR. 2022 The Author(s) Published by Oxford University Press on behalf of Royal Astronomical Society. -
UVIT view of NGC 5291: Ongoing star formation in tidal dwarf galaxies at ? 0.35 kpc resolution
NGC 5291, an early-type galaxy surrounded by a giant H I ring, is believed to be formed from collision with another galaxy. Several star forming complexes and tidal dwarf galaxies are distributed along the collisional ring which are sites of star formation in environments where extreme dynamical effects are involved. Dynamical effects can affect the star formation properties and the spatial distribution of star forming complexes along the tidal features. To study and quantify the star formation activity in the main body and in the ring structure of the NGC 5291 system, we use high spatial resolution FUV and NUV imaging observations from the Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope onboard AstroSat. A total of 57 star-forming knots are identified to be part of this interacting system out of which 12 are new detections (star forming complexes that lie inside the H I contour) compared to the previous measurements from lower resolution UV imaging. We estimate the attenuation in UV for each of the resolved star-forming knots using the UV spectral slope ?, derived from the FUV - NUV colour. Using the extinction corrected UV fluxes, we derive the star formation rate of the resolved star forming complexes. The extinction corrected total star formation rate of this system is estimated as 1.75 0.04 M? yr-1. The comparison with dwarf galaxy populations (BCD, Sm, and dIm galaxies) in the nearby Universe shows that many of the knots in the NGC 5291 system have SFR values comparable to the SFR of BCD galaxies. 2023 The Author(s). -
Vacuum annealed tin sulfide (SnS) thin films for solar cell applications
Thin films of tin sulfide (SnS) were grown on a glass substrate at an optimum temperature of 300 C by thermal evaporation technique. Following the deposition, films were vacuum annealed at different temperatures in the range of 100 to 300 C for 2 h. The effect of annealing temperature (Ta) on the composition, surface morphology, microstructure, optical and electrical properties was investigated. Elemental analysis showed sulfur deficiency of annealed films and the Sn to S atomic percent ratio increased from 1.0 to 1.1. XRD analysis confirmed the orthorhombic crystal structure of the films with (111) preferred orientation and phase purity. Degree of preferred orientation decreased with increase in Ta and the diffraction peaks corresponding to other planes intensified. Increasing the Ta to 300 C led to an increase in crystallite size to 129 nm. Results indicated presence of several crystallites in the grains of as-deposited films. AFM studies revealed the fragmentation of larger grain and the average grain size reduced form 265 nm for as-deposited films to 132.8 nm for the film annealed at 300 C. An apparent shift in absorption edge towards longer wavelengths is observed for films annealed at Ta > 200 C. The optical constant such as optical band gap, extinction coefficient (k), absorption coefficient (?) and refractive index (n) have been evaluated. The optical band gap of SnS thin films varied marginally with the annealing temperature and remained in between 1.331.29 eV. The extinction coefficient of the film annealed at 300 C was enhanced and is found to be 0.85 at 700 nm. At the annealing temperature of 300 C, the SnS films had enhanced electrical properties: the electrical resistivity was 7.8 ? cm, the p-type carrier concentration was up to 2.17 1016 cm?3, and the mobility was about 36.9 cm2V?1s?1. The variation of physical parameters with Ta has been explained by taking into account the crystallite size and the presented values are discussed with relevance to solar cells. 2017 Elsevier B.V. -
VALIDATION OF CONTINUOUS FLOW METAL PLATE REACTORS IN THE TERPENE KETONE SYNTHESIS BY ALCOHOL OXIDATION
The present study elucidates the oxidation of alcohols to terpene ketones using dichloro(p-cymene) ruthenium (II) dimer catalyst by continuous flow process using a metal plate reactor. The synthesized products were separated and validated using GC, GCMS,1 H-NMR, and13 C-NMR techniques. The reaction process exhibited product yield in the range of 80-95% on a scale of 1-80 grams. Optimization studies were conducted to calibrate the reaction conditions to improve the product yield. The scope of the reaction was explored using aromatic, cyclic, and aliphatic alcohols under optimized conditions, which resulted in high yields of terpene ketones. A reaction mechanism is proposed for the oxidation of alcohols by a continuous flow process. The significant advantages of the current protocol include synthesis at mild conditions, safer handling of reagents, flexibility to tune reaction conditions, and straightforward scale-up in the range of 1-80 grams with high efficiency and reproducibility. 2024, Rasayan Journal of Chemistry, c/o Dr. Pratima Sharma.
