Flow of nanofluid past a stretching cylinder subject to Thompson and Troian slip in the presence of gyrotactic microorganisms
Incorporating the Thompson and Troian slip condition, this work studies the bioconvective flow of a nanofluid past a vertically stretching cylinder. The Thompson and Troian slip deals with the molecular scale interactions at the solidfluid interface, which plays a pivotal role in the fluid flow analysis. This study helps in understanding the behaviours of fluid flow in the presence of non-linear slip past a vertically stretching cylinder. The corresponding partial differential equations (PDEs) for momentum, energy, concentration of nanoparticles, and concentration of microbes are developed using Buongiornos model. A suitable similarity transformation is then applied to these PDEs, converting them into a set of ordinary differential equations (ODEs). The RungeKuttaFehlberg (RKF-45) method is utilized to calculate the numerical solution of the resulting ODE problem. The results demonstrate that the interaction of slip conditions, viscous dissipation, heat source, and bioconvection causes complex flow patterns and heat transfer characteristics. These observations are extremely relevant for applications including better oil recovery procedures, biomedical engineering, and microfluidic devices where exact control over nanofluid behaviour is necessary. Some of the major observations of the study include the enhancement of the temperature in the nanofluid for higher Eckert numbers, control of fluid flow through an external magnetic field, and Peclet number significantly decreased the motile density in the nanofluid. Silenced, Scarred & Shattered: Unmasking the Wounds of Child Sexual Abuse in Select American Memoirs
The research brings to light the marginalized voices of three American women who have written about their sexual abuse in their respective memoirs Roxane Gay, Hunger: A Memoir of my Body (2017), Nikki Dubose, Washed Away: From Darkness to Light (2016) and Neesha Arter Controlled: The worst Night of my Life and its Aftermath (2015). Using these memoirs as primary data and using thematic analysis the study identified three themes which were further classified into different subthemes. Firstly, the research discovered the challenges faced by the survivors in expressing and communicating about sexual abuse due to fear and shame, the survivors do not come forward because of threats, because of rape stereotypes that permeate the society and the fear of what parents and others might think. Secondly, the research explores the various impact of trauma that is caused by sexual abuse which include shame, guilt and self blame, unworthy self, uncontrollable rage, disruption of safety and trust, isolating themselves from everyone, hostility towards body, destructive behaviours which include eating disorder from Anorexia Nervosa to Binge eating disorder, it also includes self harm and substance abuse. Thirdly, the research focuses on the recovery aspect on how the survivors learn to live with the wounds caused by sexual abuse. It focuses on how the survivors came in terms with the abuse, the conflicting feelings of forgiveness and revenge and how they sought redemption through writing their journey. 2025 Sciedu Press. Climate predictors in Indian summer monsoon forecasting: a novel De-correlated RVFL ensemble strategy
Excessive rainfall and droughts harshly impact India's social and economic growth. Though several statistical methods have been used in literature to predict Indian monsoons, uncertainties cannot be ruled out. The accuracy prediction of ISMR (Indian Summer Monsoon Rainfall) is scientifically demanding. From this perspective, it is essential to explore exploiting machine learning techniques. In this paper, a novel De-correlated Regularized Random Vector Functional Link Neural Network Ensemble (DRRNE) prediction approach was proposed using Climate Predictors such as Southern Oscillation Index (SOI), Sea Surface Temperature Anomaly (SST), El-Ni Southern Oscillation (ENSO), and Dipole Mode Index (DMI) to predict ISMR. The proposed work has also investigated the predictability of climate above predictors using the DRRNE approach to predict ISMR. In addition to the predictors above, the data for an 8-year training window time series for June to September is combined and analyzed for four predictors (ENSO, DMI, SOI, and SST) to derive another predictor, ENSO-DMI-SOI-SST (EDSS). It is found that the combination of these four predictors- the EDSS- produces better accuracy than using any of the individual predictors in this study. Among the individual predictors (ENSO, DMI, SOI, and SST), the DMI predictor has shown the best predictability for ISMR prediction. Thus, the suggestedstudy concludes that the DRRNE technique with negative correlation learning may be a suitable tool for predicting the ISMR using the combined outcome of the four climate predictorsas mentioned above. Mental health professionals insights on developing and implementing a Mental Health Awareness and Destigmatisation program (MHAD) for adolescents
This study examined mental health professionals insights on developing and implementing a Mental Health Awareness and Destigmatisation (MHAD) program for adolescents aged 1418 years in Bangalore. Qualitative Interviews with 17 professionals revealed three main themes: 1. Awareness and Destigmatisation Programs: A Boon 2. Key Ingredients: Program Content and Delivery Style 3. Shaping Program Success: Key Drivers and Challenges. Professionals recommend interactive programs that promote open discussions and educate them on symptom recognition, online behavior, and healthy relationships. A taxation perspective on how domestic double taxation on corporate taxes affects Indian commerce
This paper examines the impact of domestic double taxation on corporate taxation in India after the abolition of the dividend distribution tax (DDT) and the introduction of the new tax rates and rules in 2020. Domestic double taxation occurs when the same income is taxed twice by the same jurisdiction, such as at the corporate and shareholder level. Using data from the Income Tax Department and the Reserve Bank of India, this paper estimates the effective tax rate on corporate income and dividends in India under the current tax system. It compares it with the previous tax system and the international standards. It also analyses the effect of domestic double taxation on corporate financial decisions, such as the dividend payout ratio, the retained earnings, the debt-equity ratio, and the investment rate. It evaluates the effect of domestic double taxation on corporate tax revenue, tax incidence, and tax efficiency. The authors identify that, between 2019 and 2023, corporate income tax revenue in India increased alongside nominal GDP growth, with a notable positive correlation coefficient between the two variables. The empirical analysis technique involves gathering and analyzing quantitative data to assess the real impact of new tax reforms and reduced corporate tax rates. Finally, this study proposes policy recommendations to mitigate the adverse effects of domestic double taxation and improve India's corporate taxation system and GDP. This paper contributes to the literature by providing updated and comprehensive empirical evidence on domestic double taxation and corporate taxation in India and by offering some insights and suggestions for the policymakers, the tax authorities, the corporate sector, and the academic community. 2025 Malque Publishing. Innovative Leadership and Sustainable Development: Exploring Resource-Efficient Strategies Among Indian Managers
Global sustainability challenges demand innovative leadership approaches, particularly in resource-constrained environments where traditional models may fall short. The current study aimed to explore the need for adaptive, resource-efficient leadership by examining key traits such as empathy, inclusivity, adaptability, and intuitive decision-making that allows managers to balance immediate organizational demands with long-term sustainability goals. A Qualitative-Interpretative Phenomenological Approach was adopted. A total of 28 senior Indian managers were interviewed to understand traits aligned with stakeholder theory and the resource-based view, positioning them as strategic assets for achieving sustainable competitive advantage. Findings revealed that culturally resonant practices of frugality and resilience support social innovation and organizational resilience, contributing to broader sustainable development objectives. Twins in diversity: Understanding circumstellar disc evolution in the twin clusters of W5 complex
Young star-forming regions in massive environments are ideal test beds to study the influence of surroundings on the evolution of discs around low-mass stars. We explore two distant young clusters, IC 1848-East and West located in the massive W5 complex. These clusters are unique due to their similar (distance, age and extinction) yet distinct (stellar density and far-ultraviolet radiation fields) physical properties. We use deep multiband photometry in optical, near-infrared and mid-infrared wavelengths complete down to the substellar limit in at least five bands. We trace the spectral energy distribution of the sources to identify the young pre-main sequence members in the region and derive their physical parameters. The disc fraction for the East and West clusters down to 0.1?M was found to be 2 per?cent (N = 184, N = 492) and 1 per?cent (N = 173, N = 814), respectively. While no spatial variation in the disc fraction is observed, these values are lower than those in other nearby young clusters. Investigating the cause of this decrease, we find a correlation with the intense feedback from massive stars throughout the cluster area. We also identified the disc sources undergoing accretion and observed the mass accretion rates to exhibit a positive linear relationship with the stellar host mass and an inverse relationship with stellar age. Our findings suggest that the environment significantly influences the dissipation of discs in both clusters. These distant clusters, characterized by their unique attributes, can serve as templates for future studies in outer galaxy regions, offering insights into the influence of feedback mechanisms on star and planetary formation. 2024 The Author(s). A generalized software reliability prediction model for module based software incorporating testing effort with cost model
As software innovation has advanced, it has been noted that the testing effort function (TEF) is one of the key factors influencing the improvement of software reliability. This paper presents a simplified model which incorporates the testing effort for the reliability growth of a software. A closed form solution has been derived for the reliability of the software. This study examines the impact of testing efforts on a software reliability model based on NHPP. The sensitivity analysis has been made available to investigate how the created model's system parameters affect the cost function, mean value function, and softwares reliability. The parameters of the model have been estimated using the non-linear least square estimation (MLE) method in MATLAB software. Additionally, a warranty cost model is constructed to assess the optimal release policy for the software. The general form of the reliability expression involves elliptic integrals, which can be computed easily through a software like Mathematica. We have derived analytical solutions for reliability pertaining to several particular cases. Optimal release time for the software product has been calculated for some particular cost-sets. Goodness of fit curves have been plotted to compare the proposed model with some well-known existing SRGMs. Numerical illustrations are provided to bolster the analytical outcomes. Non-inverse signed graph of a group
Let G be a group with binary operation *. The non-inverse graph (in short, i*-graph) of G, denoted by ?, is a simple graph with vertex set consisting of elements of G and two vertices x, y ? ? are adjacent if x and y are not inverses of each other. That is, x ? y if and only if x * y ?= iG ?= y*x, where iG is the identity element of G. In this paper, we extend the study of i*-graphs to signed graphs by defining i*-signed graphs. We characterize the graphs for which the i*-signed graphs and negated i*-signed graphs are balanced, sign-compatible, consistent and k-clusterable. We also obtain the frustration index of the i*-signed graph. Further, we characterize the homogeneous non-inverse signed graphs and study the properties like net-regularity and switching equivalence. Telehealth Services for an Adolescent with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) During the COVID-19 Pandemic
The neuropalliative approach in a hospital setting for neuromuscular disorders is essentially multidisciplinary in focus and involves co-ordinated interventions. This case report describes an intensive case management approach through telehealth services provided from a hospital context in South India for psychosocial interventions for an adolescent with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Case management interventions during the COVID-19 pandemic were provided through sixteen sessions over the telephone, focusing on need assessment, service plan development, implementation, co-ordination, and monitoring. Major strategies were crisis management, supportive psychotherapy, and cognitive-behavioural strategies. Adaptations made to meet the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic using telehealth facilities can be incorporated into routine clinical practice in low-resource settings. IMPLICATIONS Telehealth, which emerged as a viable option for providing effective psychosocial care during the COVID 19 pandemic, could be adopted to complement routine clinical care in low-resource settings. 2024 Australian Association of Social Workers. -
DECODING INTENTIONS TO PURCHASE ORGANIC FOOD PRODUCTS IN AN EMERGING ECONOMY VIA ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS
Purpose. This study investigates the factors influencing consumers intentions to purchase organic food products in an emerging economy. It addresses the knowledge gap regarding the slower growth of the organic food market in these regions despite the global trend toward environmental sustainability. Methodology / approach. A survey approach involving 350 participants was used. Structural equation modeling (SEM) with SmartPLS 4 and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) with IBM SPSS 28 were used to analyse the impact of awareness of need, personal norms, environmental concern, and health consciousness on the intention to purchase organic food products. Results. The study found significant positive influences of awareness of need, personal norms, environmental concern, and health consciousness on the intention to purchase organic food products, explaining 63.1 % of the variance. Both the analysis approaches (PLS-SEM & ANN) revealed that, health consciousness, followed by awareness of need, emerged as the most important factor related to the intention to purchase organic food products. The results highlight the importance of awareness and personal values in driving pro-environmental behaviour. Originality / scientific novelty. This research offers essential insights into the determinants of organic food purchase intentions in an emerging economy. It emphasises the significance of awareness and personal values in fostering sustainable consumption behaviour, addressing a less explored area in existing literature. Practical value / implications. The findings have important implications for policymakers and marketers. Strategies focused on consumer education about the benefits of organic food can enhance awareness and appeal. Understanding core psychological needs and beliefs that shape consumer motivations can guide the development of effective marketing strategies. Analysis of imperfect interfaces in cobalt ferrite plates using a linear spring model: a comparative study with terfenol-D
Purpose: This research aims to explore the transmission of seismic surface waves through a two magneto-strictive materials i.e. cobalt ferrite and Terfenol-D when embedded in a plate-substrate configuration with non-ideal interface. The study focuses on understanding the impact of width of the plates, imperfect parameter, heterogeneity parameter on both the materials cobalt ferrite and Terfenol-D under magnetically open and short conditions. Methodology: To achieve this, the study employs a variable-separable technique following Direct Sturm-Liouville method and appropriate boundary conditions to derive frequency relations for both magnetically open and short circuit scenarios. Numerical simulations are conducted to investigate the effects of width of the plates, imperfect parameter, heterogeneity parameter on both the materials cobalt ferrite and Terfenol-D under magnetically open and short conditions. Findings: The research findings indicate that the phase velocity is increasing more in Terfenol-D as compared to Cobalt ferrite, either the case magnetically open or closed. Graphical comparisons highlight the impact of width plates, imperfect parameter, heterogeneity parameter on the characteristics on wave propagation clearly. Research limitations: The study is confined to linear wave propagation and does not consider nonlinear effects. Additionally, the analysis is based on idealized material properties and interface conditions. Practical implications: The results of this research can contribute to the design and optimization of sensors, energy harvesters, and wave manipulation devices utilizing piezomagnetic materials. Understanding the behaviour of surface waves in these structures is crucial for their effective application. Originality: This study offers a comprehensive analysis of surface wave propagation in two different types of piezomagnetic composite structure by considering heterogeneity and interface conditions. Visible light active bismuth chromate/curcuma longa heterostructure for enhancing photocatalytic activity
Bismuth chromate nanostructures were fabricated via hydrolysis technique using curcuma longa for enhancing the photocatalytic activity. The analytes have been labelled as Bi2CrO6-C, when prepared without using curcuma longa and Bi2CrO6-G, prepared using curcuma longa extract (Bi2CrO6/Curcuma longa). The as-fabricated catalysts have been confirmed via characterization techniques including X-ray diffraction, Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), UVVis. DRS. The as-synthesised analytes have been evaluated their photocatalytic efficiency via photodegradation of an organic pollutant, Methyl Orange (MO). The current research findings imposed the effect of inculcation of a green extract curcuma longa reduces particle size and increases surface area of the material and moreover makes heterostructure with Bismuth chromate and inhibits recombination of photogenerated charges for efficient degradation of the organic pollutant. Nanostructured ZnCo2S4@metal organic frameworks composite for supercapacitor by ultrasonication supported hydrothermal reaction
Electrode materials for supercapacitors, sensors, and battery applications were frequently manufactured using the chemistry of metal organic framework nanostructured materials. These materials have three-dimensional networks between organic linkers and metal precursors thanks to diverse chemical alterations. Due to their enhanced surface characteristics, porous nature, and strong connecting organic molecules for numerous possible applications, MOFs have a wide range of uses. In this study, we used a sonicated enhanced hydrothermal reaction to fabricate ZnCo2S4 and ZnCo2S4 on the metal organic framework composite materials. Raman, FTIR, XRD, XPS, SEM, and SEM-EDS tests were utilized to confirm the composite's structural and morphological features. With 1 M KOH electrolyte, composite electrodes for supercapacitor fabrication were produced. The composite electrodes have a stability under cycles count of 5000 and a capacitance of 550 F/g at a density of 1 A/g. 2024 Elsevier B.V. -
An ICT-integrated Modular Training Program Enhancing the Digital Research Skills of Research Scholars
The teaching profession in higher education demands strong research skills, and with rapid technological advancements, university teaching professionals must familiarize themselves with digital research skills. Thus, university teachers and PhD research scholars across the globe are eager to develop their digital research skills to enhance their work efficiency. Acquiring digital research skills on the job or during the PhD program has proven to be challenging. These skills assist higher education professionals in various ways, such as supervising doctoral students, conducting research, working on research projects, and publishing research articles. Thus, the present study attempted to provide ICT-integrated modular training (MT) to facilitate the higher education teaching faculty and PhD scholars with digital research skills. The study employed a repeated cross-sectional research design and measured the effectiveness of the MT through a single group pre and post-test design. Researchers conducted three modular training sessions annually on digital research skills over five consecutive years. In total, 300 scholars attended the training and participated in the pre-test, post-test, and satisfaction survey. Findings from paired sample t-tests (t-value varied between 4.117 to 7.525, p < 0.05) revealed that modular training has been significantly effective with a large effect size (d > 0.8). Furthermore, the satisfaction survey revealed a high degree of satisfaction among participants. Future research may explore ways to strengthen the technological and pedagogical content knowledge of modular training programs in developing digital research skills. One-step synthesized Pt-dispersed N, P co-doped graphene as an efficient oxygen reduction reaction ORR electrocatalyst
A simple yet effective strategy to simultaneously deposit Platinum and co-doped (Nitrogen & Phosphorous) graphite oxide (rGO) using microwave irradiation has been carried out, labeled as Pt/NP-rGO. The successful deposition of Pt was confirmed using X-ray diffractogram (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) pattern. The Pt particles with average size of 3.5nm were deposited during microwave irradiation. Further, co-doping was confirmed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The synthesized Pt/NP-rGO was analyzed in situ as an oxygen reduction reaction electrocatalyst in acidic medium. Our results indicate that Pt/NP-rGO follows a four e? ORR process attributed to increased adhesion between the Pt and N, P co-doped graphene oxide due to e? transfer from graphene to N and P atoms, thus indicating its potential in energy-related applications as an effective ORR electrocatalyst. A common law in space for public health
Beyond the gravitational pull of Earth, space travel poses substantial public health hazards pertaining to the physical and mental well-being of astronauts and passengers, in addition to a possible threat to the populace of Earth upon re-entry. Exposure to cosmic radiation, cranial pressure from microgravity, weakened immunity to contagion, and the potential for depression and psychosis are all risks. Public health crises of this nature are to be expected as the duration of missions extends, as is the case with Mars settlement. In contrast to national space programmes, which have regarded these obstacles as human factors effecting the mission, public health law in common law British nations approaches them from the perspective of social justice and the preservation of human life and societal welfare. Countries including Australia, Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom continue to apply traditional common law principles of public health law, which provide a sensible and enduring method for reconciling competing public and private interests. Common law permits the violation of civil liberties through the use of force in public health restraint, forced medication, and quarantine, but only if necessary, reasonable, and equitable. While the understanding of the health challenges associated with long-duration spaceflight may be in its infancy for national space programmes and civilian space ventures, the application of common law public health principles could aid in the establishment of health and safety protocols in which human reactions to crises in space resemble those observed on Earth. This may, nevertheless, necessitate the enactment of a more comprehensive federal public health statute. Embedded in both public health common law and international space law, the pre-eminence of preserving and respecting human life and well-being continues to be a cornerstone of humane justice despite the perilous conditions of space. 2024 IAA -

Detection of X-ray polarization in the high synchrotron peaked blazar 1ES 1959+650
We report the measurement of X-ray polarization in the high synchrotron peaked blazar 1ES 1959+650. Of the four epochs of observations from the Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer, we detected polarization in the 28 keV band on two epochs. From the model-independent analysis of the observations on 28 October 2022, in the 28 keV band, we found the degree of polarization of ?X=9.01.6% and an electric vector position angle of ?X=535 deg. Similarly, from the observations on 14 August 2023, we found ?X and ?X values as 12.50.7% and 202 deg, respectively. These values are also in agreement with the values obtained from spectro-polarimetric analysis of the I, Q, and U spectra. The measured X-ray polarization is larger than the reported optical values, ranging between 2.5% and 9% when observed from 2008 to 2018. Broadband spectral energy distribution constructed for the two epochs is well described by the one-zone leptonic emission model with the bulk Lorentz factor (?) of the jet larger on 14 August 2023 compared to 28 October 2022. Our results favor the shock acceleration of the particles in the jet, with the difference in ?X between the two epochs being influenced by a change in the ? of the jet. A novel and secured bitcoin method for identification of counterfeit goods in logistics supply management within online shopping
Counterfeit merchandise poses significant challenges for both consumers and retailers. When counterfeit goods infiltrate the market, they damage the trustworthiness and reputation of legitimate companies, leading to negative publicity. Furthermore, these imitations can be harmful, especially in critical sectors like food and pharmaceuticals. To address this issue, it is essential to identify and prevent counterfeit products from reaching consumers. Our proposed solution leverages blockchain technology to authenticate products. Blockchains decentralized database securely stores all transaction data, ensuring transparency and traceability. Additionally, we introduce a tool that records ownership and product details. By utilizing a Quick Response (QR) code, consumers can easily verify the authenticity of a product, thus accessing its manufacturing and ownership information. This approach not only safeguards consumer safety but also protects the reputation and financial performance of legitimate business.
