CNN-based Indian medicinal leaf type identification and medical use recommendation
Medicinal leaves are playing a vital role in our everyday life. There are an enormous amount of species present in the world. Identification of each type would be a tedious task. Using image processing technology, we can overcome this problem by providing computer vision with the help of a convolution neural network (CNN). The objective of this research is to find out the best CNN model that helps in classifying the plant leaf species and identifying its category. In this research work, the proposed basic CNN model consisting of four convolution layers uses ten different medicinal leaf species each belonging to two categories providing an accuracy of 96.88%. Spectroscopic, crystal structure and DFT-assisted studies of some nickel(II) chelates of a heterocyclic-based NNO donor aroylhydrazone: in vitro DNA binding and docking studies
Five new nickel(II) complexes have been synthesised with an NNO donor tridentate aroylhydrazone (HFPB) employing the chloride, nitrate, acetate and perchlorate salts, and all the complexes are physiochemically characterized. Elemental analyses suggested stoichiometries as Ni(FPB)(NO3)]2H2O (1), [Ni(HFPB)(FPB)]Cl (2), [Ni(FPB)(OAc)(DMF)] (3), [Ni(FPB)(ClO4)]DMF (4), [Ni(FPB)2] (5). Aroylhydrazone is found coordinating in deprotonated iminolate form in four of the complexes (1, 3, 4, 5) however in one case (complex 2), two aroylhydrazone moieties are binding to the metal centre in the neutral and anionic forms. The structure of the bisligated complex 5, found using single crystal X ray diffraction studies confirmed that the metal has a distorted octahedral N4O2 coordination environment, with each of the two deprotonated ligands coordinating through the pyridine nitrogen, imino-hydrazone nitrogen and the enolate oxygen of the hydrazone moiety. To compare and study, the electronic interactions and stabilities of the metal complexes, various quantum chemical parameters were calculated. Moreover, Hirshfeld surface analysis was carried out for complex 5 to determine the intermolecular interactions. The biophysical attributes of the ligand and complex5 have been investigated with CT-DNA and experimental outcomes show that the Ni(II) complex exhibited higher binding propensity towards DNA as compared to ligand. Furthermore, to specifically understand the type of interactions of the metal complexes with DNA, molecular docking studies were effectuated. In addition, the electronic and related reactivity behaviors of the ligand and five Ni(II) complexes were studied using B3LYP/631 + + G**/LANL2DZ level. As expected, the obtained results from Natural Bond Orbital (NBO) computations displayed that the resonance interactions (n ? ?* and ? ? ?*) play a determinant role in evaluating the chemical attributes of the reported compounds. Biocidal activities of nickel oxide nanoparticles modified by copper and manganese, synthesized by green process
In recent years, the development of dual dopant-based nanoparticles (NPs) has gained significant attention as they possess exceptional physico-chemical and biomedical properties, making them potential candidates for antimicrobial and anticancer uses. In this research, we successfully synthesized nickel oxide (NiO) and copper, manganese-doped NiO (CuMn:NiO) NPs using a green synthesis method. The synthesis process involved Trigonella foenum-graecum (T.f.graecum) leaves extract as a nucleating agent. The synthesized nanoparticles were confirmed by various physico-chemical studies. Based on X-ray diffraction analysis, the median size was determined as 36 nm for NiO and 32 nm for CuMn:NiO NPs. The antibacterial study revealed that CuMn:NiO NPs exhibited a higher zone of inhibition in contrast to both Gram-positive (Streptococcus pneumoniae, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus megaterium) and Gram-negative bacteria (Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Vibrio cholerae) compared with NiO NPs and commercial amoxicillin. The antifungal studies conducted against Candida albicans demonstrated that CuMn:NiO NPs exhibited enhanced efficacy in comparison to NiO NPs. In vitro testing against human breast cancer cells (MCF-7) demonstrated the anticancer potential of NiO and CuMn:NiO NPs, supported by IC50 concentrations of 11 and 9?g/mL, respectively. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra of NiO and CuMn:NiO NPs exhibited a green emission at 508 and 518 nm, respectively, which indicated the generation of active free radicals by the NPs. Effect of Magneto Convection Nanofluid Flow in a Vertical Channel
An analytical study of the effect of the magneto-convective flow of immiscible fluids through a vertical channel has been investigated in the presence of a chemical reaction. One region is saturated by electrically conducting incompressible fluid, and the other is saturated by nanofluid in a vertical channel with constant transport properties. The coupled nonlinear governing equations are solved by the regular perturbation method, with the Brinkman number as a perturbation parameter since its value is always less than unity. The results are discussed in detail using plots to analyze the flow phenomena. The increase in thermal and mass Grashof numbers enhances the fluid velocity and temperature profile, whereas Hartman number, solid volume fraction, and chemical reaction parameters exhibit the opposite effect. The effect of an increase in the nanoparticle volume fraction opposes the fluid flow and diminishes the temperature distribution due to the enhanced viscosity of the nanofluid. A uGMRT search for radio emission from planets around evolved stars
In this work, we present the results from a study using the Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope (GMRT) to search for radio emission from planets around three evolved stars namely ? Tau, ? UMi, and ? Gem. Both ? Tau and ? UMi host massive ? 6 MJ mass planets at about ?1.4 au from the central star, while ? Gem is host to a 2.9 MJ mass planet at 1.7 au from the host star. We observe ? Tau and ? UMi at two upgraded GMRT bands: band 3 (250500 MHz) and band 4 (550900 MHz). We also analysed the archival observations from ? Gem at 150 MHz from GMRT. We did not detect any radio signals from these systems. At 400 MHz, the 3? upper limit is 87 ?Jy beam?1 for ? Tau b and 77.4 ?Jy beam?1 for ? UMi b. From our observations at 650 MHz, we place a 3? upper limit of 28.2 ?Jy beam?1 for ? Tau b and 33.6 ?Jy beam?1 for ? UMi b. For ? Gem b, at 150 MHz, we place an upper limit of 2.5 mJy. At 400 and 650 MHz, our observations are the deepest radio images for any exoplanetary system. The Author(s) 2024. -
Reflective thinking in school: a systematic review
Everything around us changes rapidly and to adapt to these constantly changing conditions and to understand the meaning of our life in the society in which we live, we must reflectively and consciously think about our actions in each given scenario. A school is a miniature form of society where learners are exposed to situations where they need to find solutions for every problem faced. No faultless solution and conclusions can be arrived at without a carefully employed reflective thinking process. In this context, the present study reviewed 19 intervention studies on reflective thinking in schools published between 2010 and 2021 and presents a brief summary. Various theories on reflective thinking, approach of educationists on reflective thinking of students and the relation between reflective thinking and students academic performance, are extensively analyzed. The findings of the study reveal that there are a few generally accepted theories of reflective thinking; reflection is a useful learning strategy and reflective thinking is an essential characteristic of academic excellence. Fast Fashion Brands: Sustainable Marketing Practices and Consumer Purchase Behaviour; [Blagovne znamke hitre mode: trajnostne trne prakse in nakupovalno vedenje potronikov]
The fast fashion boom is faced with economic, environmental and social justice objections. Sustainable marketing initiatives have become a new style statement, and brands are shifting to environment-friendly manufacturing. This study explores how fashion apparel brands adopt sustainable marketing practices to promote sustainable purchase behaviour. A cross-sectional survey using a quantitative research design was followed to collect responses from fashion brand consumers. Variance-based partial least squares-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was used to assess the hypothesized model. Two-step bootstrapping was conducted to explore the mediating role of brand perception in the relationship between sustainable marketing activity and brand loyalty. The study suggests that firms can support sustainable marketing practices by creating a brand image and building trust. This can influence consumers' perceptions of sustainability and promote brand loyalty. The study also emphasizes the significance of brand loyalty in developing sustainable purchase behaviour that endures over time. Flares during eclipses of high-mass X-ray binary systems Vela X-1, 4U 1700?37, and LMC X-4
In eclipsing X-ray binary systems, the direct X-ray emission is blocked by the companion star during the eclipse. We observe only reprocessed emission that contains clues about the environment of the compact object and its chemical composition, ionization levels, etc. We have found flares in some X-ray binaries during their eclipses. The study of eclipse flares provides additional clues regarding the size of the reprocessing region and helps distinguish between different components of the X-ray spectrum observed during the eclipse. In the archival data, we searched for flares during eclipses of high-mass X-ray binaries and found flares in three sources: Vela X-1, LMC X-4, and 4U 1700?37. Comparing spectral properties of the eclipse flare and non-flare data, we found changes in the power-law photon index in all three sources and multiple emission lines in Vela X-1 and 4U 1700-37. The fluxes of prominent emission lines showed a similar increase as the overall X-ray flux during the eclipse flare, suggesting the lines originate in the binary environment and not in the interstellar medium. We also observed a soft excess in 4U 1700-37 that remains unchanged during both eclipse flare and non-flare states. Our analysis suggests that this emission originates from the extremely thin shell of the stellar wind surrounding the photosphere of its companion star. The detection of short (100200 s) count-rate doubling time-scale in 4U 1700?37 and LMC X-4 indicates that the eclipse reprocessing occurs in a region larger than, but comparable to the size of the companion star. 2024 The Author(s). Lignite-derived nanocarbon as surface passivator and cosensitizer in dye-sensitized solar cell
Interfacial exciton recombination and narrow absorption region are two bottlenecks that limit the performance of a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC). The present study focuses on improving the solar cell's efficiency by utilizing a lignite-derived nanocarbon that behaves as a surface passivator and cosensitizer. Incorporating nanocarbon enhanced the spectral absorption region of the N719 dye with a bathochromic shift and played the role of a cosensitizer. In addition, the quenched photoluminescence spectra revealed that nanocarbon also aids in the swift transfer of electrons to the conduction band of TiO2 by reducing the exciton recombination and acting as a surface passivator. On measuring the fabricated DSSC under AM 1.5G irradiation with the intensity of 100 mW/cm2, the nanocarbon-based device exhibited an efficiency (?) of 9.02% with a photocurrent density of 20.45 mA/cm2, outperforming the pristine device (? = 6.21%). An enhancement of 45% in the power conversion efficiency was achieved. Thus, the results unveiled that nanocarbons derived from pollution-causing fuel synergistically aided in enhancing the performance of DSSC. 2024 Elsevier Ltd -
Cloud Intrusion Detection Using Hybrid Convolutional Neural Networks
Instead of storing data on a hard drive, cloud computing is seen as the best option. The Internet is used to deliver three different kinds of computing services to users all over the world. One advantage that cloud computing provides to its customers is greater access to resources and higher performance while at the same time increasing the risk of an attack. Intrusion detection systems that can handle a large volume of data packets, analyse them, and generate reports based on knowledge and behaviour analysis were developed as part of this research. As an added layer of protection, the Convolution Neural Network Algorithm is used to encrypt data during end-to-end transmission and to store it in the cloud. Intrusion detection increases the safety of data in the cloud. In this paper demonstrates the data is encrypted and decrypted using a model of an algorithm and explains how it is protected from attackers. It's important to take into account the amount of time and memory required to encrypt and decrypt large text files when evaluating the proposed system's performance. Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix based Fully Convolutional Neural Network Model for Pneumonia Detection
This study presents a new method to improve the detection ability of a convolutional neural network (CNN) in pneumonia detection using chest X-ray images. Using Gray-Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) analysis, additional channels are added to the original image data provided by Guangzhou Children's Hospital in Guangzhou, China. The main goal is to design a lightweight, fully convolution network and increase its available information using GLCM. Performance analysis is performed on the new CNN model and GLCM-enhanced CNN model, and results are compared with Transfer Learning approaches. Various evaluation metrics, including accuracy, precision, recall, F1 score, and AUC-ROC, are used to evaluate the improved analysis performance of CNN. The results showed a significant increase in the ability of the model to detect pneumonia, with an accuracy of 99.57%. In addition, the study evaluates the descriptive properties of the CNN model by analyzing its decision process using Grad-CAM. 2024, J.J. THEORY OF MIND AS A UNIFYING CONSTRUCT OF RELIGIOUS COGNITION AND EUDAIMONIC WELL-BEING AMONG CHRISTIAN ADOLESCENTS
Theory of mind (ToM) is the ability of an individual to identify or predict others emotions, thoughts, and beliefs. In the context of religious cognition and eudaimonic well-being, ToM can be understood as the cognitive process through which individuals interpret and understand religious experiences, knowledge, behaviour, attitudes, and beliefs. These variables are known for sustained psychological and religious consistency in an individual's life. Eudaimonic well-being, on the other hand, refers to the long-lasting effects on individuals mental and spiritual health, enabling them to find purpose and meaning in life, depending on the individual, religion, and society. ToM is an emerging aspect of cognitive neuroscience, rapidly expanding its field to evolution, brain imaging, and religious cognition. The period of adolescence is when adolescents are put into a turbulence of terrible confusion about their identity, beliefs, and autonomy. A thorough understanding of ToM based on religious cognition will foster adolescents' spiritual and mental health. This article connects ToM to religious cognition and the eudaimonic well-being of adolescents in Christian traditions. We propose that ToM could illuminate the relationship between religious cognition and eudaimonic well-being and provide a deepened understanding of these variables in psycho-spiritual therapy. On Leech labelings of graphs and some related concepts
Let G=(V,E) be a graph and let f:E?{1,2,3,} be an edge labeling of G. The path weight of a path P in G is the sum of the labels of the edges of P and is denoted by w(P). The path number of G, tp(G) is the total number of paths in a graph G. If the set of all path weights S in G with respect to the labeling f is {1,2,3,,tp(G)}, then f is called a Leech labeling of G. A graph which admits a Leech labeling is called a Leech graph. Leech index is a parameter which evaluates how close a graph is towards being Leech. In this paper, the path number of the wheel graph Wn is obtained. We also determine a bound for the Leech index of Wn and a subclass of unicyclic graphs. Learning analytics for academic management system enhancement: A participatory action research in an Indian context
A common thread noted in many academic management system implementations was the stagnation and deterioration of their usage after the initial hype. This action research study was aimed at addressing this decline in a higher education institute after undertaking a reflective analysis of the waning usage patterns and taking appropriate initiatives to enhance their usage. The authors have attempted this as participants driving the change. As change agents, the academic management system implementation was advanced to move closer to a stage where the committed use occurred and intended benefits were realised. Several initiatives were introduced to propel this change. The scope of this article was confined to gauging the impact of the trigger factors; memos, and training on the academic management system usage. Their effects were measured by applying learning analytics to various sources of usage and performance data. Sustainable carbonaceous nanomaterial supported palladium as an efficient ligand-free heterogeneouscatalyst for Suzuki-Miyaura coupling
A novel ligand-free heterogeneous catalyst was synthesized via pyrolysis of Samanea saman pods to produce carbon nanospheres (SS-CNSs), which served as a carbon support for immobilizing palladium nanoparticles through an in situ reduction technique (Pd/SS-CNS). The SS-CNSs effectively integrated 3% of Pd on their surfaces with no additional activation procedures needed. The nanomaterials obtained underwent thorough characterization employing various techniques such as FT-IR, XRD, FE-SEM, TEM, EDS, ICP-AES, and BET. Subsequently, the efficiency of this Pd/SS-CNS catalyst was assessed for the synthesis of biaryl derivatives via Suzuki coupling, wherein different boronic acids were coupled with various aryl halides using an environmentally benign solvent mixture of EtOH/H2O and employing only 0.1 mol% of Pd/SS-CNS. The catalytic system was conveniently recovered through centrifugation and demonstrated reusability without any noticeable decline in catalytic activity. This approach offers economic viability, ecological compatibility, scalability, and has the potential to serve as an alternative to homogeneous catalysis. 2024 RSC. -
Utilization of IoT-Based Healthcare System and Vital Data Monitoring of patients
The next generation of technology, known as the Internet of Things (IoT), will provide a comprehensive system that connects different domains, functions, and innovations. With the increasing demand for elderly care due to the growing ageing population, health monitoring systems have become increasingly important. Continuous monitoring is required in ICU to monitor the health conditions of patients. In cases where patients are released from the hospital, they are advised to rest and observed for a certain period, and the IoT system is very helpful in such cases. This article primarily discusses the implementation of a precise autonomous medical facility management system using IoT. In the past, only current data was displayed, and the patients history could not be accessed. In this study, we propose an IoT-based healthcare system for continuous monitoring of a patients health conditions. The healthcare system focuses on measuring and monitoring various biological parameters of the patients body, such as heart rate, blood oxygen saturation level, and temperature, using a web server and an Android application. Doctors can continuously monitor the patients condition on their smart phones using the Android application. Psychological Safety and Career Success among Employees of Indian Start-ups: Mediating Role of Passion
India is one of the leading countries that have a favorable start-up ecosystem and is home to hundreds of start-ups and unicorns. From fintech and e-commerce to healthcare and agritech, these startups are disrupting traditional industries, leveraging technology to address unique challenges and tap into vast market opportunities. The start-ups' human resources policies are different, and they do not have complex human resources rules and policies to promote new ideas. The start-ups future is unpredictable, and they have a lot of uncertainty. Human assets work in start-ups to get a sense of career success despite the psychological fear about the future as they have a strong passion to succeed. This research seeks to explore the impact of psychological safety on the professional achievement of human resources within Indian startups, with a particular focus on the intermediary role of passion. This study adopts a descriptive approach and utilizes a survey-based research methodology to gather first-hand data from employees working within the realm of Indian startups. The study results convey that psychological safety impacts the overall career success of start-up employees, and it also significantly impacts the objective career success of the employees. Objective career success pertains to tangible accomplishments or results in a person's professional journey, which are usually quantifiable and evident to external observers. Engine behavior analysis on a conventional diesel engine combustion mode powered by low viscous cedarwood oil/waste cooking oil biodiesel/diesel fuel mixture An experimental study
Binary biofuel is the best alternative source that completely replaces petroleum-based fuel. In this study, we have experimented with the waste cooking oil and cedarwood oil as biofuel in a DI CI engine for various proportions and related its combustion, emission, and performance characteristics to those of base diesel. This study aims to eliminate the utilization of fossil fuel in a diesel engine by introducing green binary fuel (low viscous fuel resulting from the blending of cedarwood oil with WCO biodiesel) successfully. The objective of the study is to convert cedarwood WCO into green binary fuel and investigate its performance, emission, and combustion properties. The transesterification process is utilized for the enhancement of WCO as biodiesel. It occasioned a reduction in brake thermal efficiency as the addition of waste cooking oil in the blend increased. At the same time, the maximum value of BTE of 27.8% was attained for B10C90 (10% transesterified waste cooking oil and 90% cedarwood oil in volume), whereas it was 28.1% for diesel at maximum load conditions. The BSEC was 15.4 MJ/kW-hr for B10C90 and 12.8 MJ/kWhr for diesel. The emission characteristics, CO, HC, NOx, CO2, and smoke for B10C90 were 17.93 g/kWhr, 0.55 g/kWhr., 20.09 g/kWhr, 2210.9 g/kWhr, and 25.55%. Combustion features such as NHRR, burn duration, MPRR, combustion efficiency, Ignition delay, and coefficient of variance for B10C90 were 53.74 bar, 29.38 CAD, 4.71 bar/CAD, 99.7%, 7.01 CAD, and 4.73% respectively. Agile HR-Based Employee Management Practices for Improving Hospital Service Delivery
The effective management of the human resources of a hospital is essential for the delivery of high-quality healthcare services, a task that has become incredibly challenging in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic in India. The efficient management of employees is a top priority in healthcare organisations, which is why human resources (HR) plays a pivotal role in their functioning. It includes strategies for improving employee engagement, productivity, motivation, adaptability to change, welfare, and overall health in addition to traditional HR concerns. As part of this process, conducive working conditions must be created, talent management practices must be implemented, and flexibility must be provided to meet the evolving needs of healthcare professionals. The adoption of Agile HR practices is gaining momentum among hospitals in response to the dynamic challenges they face. In the Agile approach, the development cycle of 'Plan, Do, Check, and Act (PDCA)' enables real-time responsiveness. Through a qualitative research design with in-depth interviews conducted through purposive sampling, this study explores the implementation of Agile HR practices in hospitals located in Kerala and Karnataka. The research presents a novel human resources operating model, termed the 'Agile HR Model,' which advocates the integration of Agile principles into the management of healthcare employees. A key objective of this model is to enhance hospital service delivery by embracing agility and adaptability. Wave Height Forecasting over Ocean of Things Based on Machine Learning Techniques: An Application for Ocean Renewable Energy Generation
With the evolution and integration of information and communication technologies, the marine environment is being converted into a smart ocean of things. The only way to monitor the marine environment is to access marine information through satellites, radar, etc. Recently, many researchers have focused their interest on generating power from renewable energy. Among all the available renewable resources, ocean waves are attracting the interest of researchers for power generation. Therefore, this article focuses on designing a data-driven forecasting model for marine renewable energy generation applications. This article applies a novel Gini-impurity-index-based bidirectional long short-term memory model for selecting the best ocean/marine environmental factors to forecast wave height and ultimately predict power generation using the numerical model. This article presents short- and long-term forecasting results. In the experiment, four stations each are taken for both short- and long-term forecasting. The average root-mean-square error was approximately 0.17 for long-term forecasting and approximately 0.05 for short-term forecasting. 1976-2012 IEEE.
