Beyond Surveys: A Study on Metrics and Tools in Employee Engagement Analytics

Beyond Teacher Quality: Understanding the Moderating Role of Infrastructure in Student Learning Outcomes in Secondary Education
Education is an essential resource for individuals and societies, and it plays a significant role in shaping the future of any nation. Depriving a generation of young children of their basic right to quality education can easily be regarded as the highest form of injustice in a society. Bihar, which was once the epitome of education and knowledge across the world, is now counted among the states with the lowest literacy rates and the poorest educational infrastructure. While a list of reasons can be enumerated behind this downfall, including historic and social reasons, it is prudent to act on those that we can effectively alter and improve upon, such as infrastructure and teaching quality. The quality of education provided to students is influenced by various factors, such as infrastructure, teacher quality, and student-teacher relationships. This study explores the moderating effect of infrastructure on the relationship between teacher quality and student outcome in secondary education in Bihar, mapping an intriguing contrast with Kerala, the state with the highest literacy rate in India. With the help of a simple moderation analysis and drawing on the resource dependency theory, our findings indicate that the moderation effect of infrastructure on student outcome is stronger in Bihar than in Kerala. This study highlights the urgent need to prioritise consolidating and enhancing the quality of education in schools in Bihar rather than adding up a number of concrete blocks. 2024 Patliputra School of Economics. -

Beyond the Balance: Ethics, Justice, and Governance in the Environment-Society Nexus
This chapter discusses the dynamic relationship existing between the environment and human societies, conceptually defined as the Environment-Society Nexus. It explores how different environmental conditions come to shape social structures, policies, and cultural narratives while documenting the ways in which human activities and institutions shape environmental outcomes. Drawing on a multidisciplinary approach, this study synthesizes key findings emanating from ecology, sociology, political science, and economics to put forward a holistic understanding of this interrelationship. It does so by pointing out critical themes, such as resource governance, environmental justice, and sustainable development, through an explanation of how decisions developed by society pertaining to land use, resource extraction, and economic development contribute to or detract from ecological resilience and biodiversity. The book chapter also looks into the changes that result from environmental changes, such as climate change, pollution, and habitat degradation, with regard to social inequalities and how resilience occurs among communities. It then gives case studies and theoretical models to show how often marginalized communities bear the brunt of environmental degradation when, as a matter of fact, they are those who contribute the least to its causes. It supports the argument for equitable policies. This chapter concludes by saying that an integrative perspective on the solution of contemporary environmental problems defines the need for frameworks of ecological sustainability combined with social equity for the long-term resilience and well-being of human and natural systems. 2026 John Wiley & Sons Ltd. Beyond the basics: mapping the inflation response to fiscal deficit in India with smooth transition autoregressive model
Purpose: Indias historical fiscal performance has featured elevated deficit levels. Driven by the imperative need for fiscal stimulus measures in response to the crisis, efforts toward fiscal consolidation from 2003 to 2008 were reversed in 20082009 due to the financial crisis. These stimulus actions are believed to have wielded a notable influence on inflation dynamics. Presumably, a high inflation rate hinders growth and inflicts severe welfare costs. Accordingly, the principal objective of this paper is to scrutinise the threshold effects of fiscal deficit on inflation within the context of the Indian economy. Design/methodology/approach: We employed the Smooth Transition Autoregressive (STAR) Model, a robust tool for capturing non-linear relationships, to discern the specific threshold level of fiscal deficit. Our analysis encompasses annual data spanning from 1971 to 2020. Additionally, we have leveraged the Toda-Yamamoto causality test to establish the existence and direction of a causal connection between fiscal deficit and inflation in the Indian economy. Findings: Our analysis pinpointed a critical threshold level of 3.40% for fiscal deficit, a value beyond which inflation dynamics in India undergo a marked transition, signifying the presence of significant non-linear effects. Moreover, the results derived from the Toda-Yamamoto causality test offer substantiating evidence of a causal relationship originating from the fiscal deficit and leading to inflation within the Indian economic framework. Research limitations/implications: The findings of our study carry significant implications, particularly for the formulation and execution of both fiscal and monetary policies. Understanding the threshold effects of fiscal deficit on inflation in India provides policymakers with valuable insights into achieving a harmonious balance between these two critical economic variables. Beyond the first bite: understanding how online experience shapes user loyalty in the mobile food app market
In the competitive landscape of mobile food ordering applications (MFOA) in India, the primary focus is enhancing the customer experience to mirror or even exceed their offline meal acquisition experiences. Existing research underscores the pivotal role of a superior online experience in driving business success. Against the backdrop of a dearth of studies addressing online customer experience (OCE), our current research seeks to gain insight into its state and its implications for attitudes and intentions. Specifically, we investigate the impact of OCE on the continued usage intentions (CUI) of new MFOA users. This study not only sheds light on the relationship between OCE and CUI but also presents a fresh configuration of OCE, addressing its varied conceptualization. Furthermore, drawing on data collected from over 400 first-time users of MFOA, our findings reveal that e-satisfaction and e-trust act as full mediators in influencing CUI. Finally, the study also suggests that e-trust mediates the effect of e-satisfaction on the CUI of MFOA users. Our research contributes to our understanding of OCE by specifically highlighting the experiences and outcomes of first-time users of MFOAs. Practitioners should employ strategies including personalized orientation and data gathering, location-based services, in-app messaging, push notifications and gamification techniques to increase OCE and drive CUI. Beyond the Pink Slip: Mental Health Challenges Among Displaced IT Workers in India
The case explores and undertakes the journey of pink slips, technological disruption, and the silence around mental health through the experiences of Karan. The events are drawn from reallife situations and have been adapted to protect the identity of the individual. The case follows Karan Jadhav, a mid-level IT professional working in Bengaluru. He tries to navigate his life after being laid off during a strategic downsizing at a Multinational Company (MNC) where he has been working for more than 10 years. Karan finds himself battling with anxiety over unpaid bills and a constant dread of not finding a job. In a country such as India, the job is associated with a sense of identity, purpose, self-esteem, self-efficacy, and social acceptance and respect. Karan's story reflects the human cost of technological disruption, lack of social and emotional support around mental health, and policy gaps that leave the displaced professionals vulnerable and with poor to no support. Beyond the rings: Polar ring galaxy NGC 4262 and its globular cluster system
In the context of the hierarchical model of galaxy evolution, polar ring galaxies (PRGs) are considered the intermediate phase between ongoing mergers and quiescent galaxies. This study explores the globular cluster system (GCS) and its properties in the nearest PRG, NGC4262, serving as a pilot investigation to study GCS in nearby PRGs. We utilize wide and deep-field observations of the CFHT as part of the NGVS to investigate the GCS of NGC4262. We presented the first optical image of NGC4262 with an optically faint ring component. The photometric analysis of the GCS displays a distinct colour bimodality. We estimate the total number of GCs for NGC4262 to be 266 16 GCs with a specific frequency of 4.2 0.8 and a specific mass of 0.23 0.01, which is relatively high compared to other galaxies of similar mass and environmental conditions. The spatial and azimuthal distributions of subpopulations reveal strong evidence of previous interactions within the host galaxy. The colour distribution of GCS in NGC4262 shows a gradient of 0.05 0.01 within 5.5, supporting the notion of past interactions and evolutionary transitions. PRG NGC4262 conforms to the overall trend of the GCS mass with respect to the halo mass. Furthermore, our investigation of the global scaling relations between GCS and host galaxy parameters provides further support for the hypothesis that PRGs are an intermediate phase connecting ongoing mergers and quiescent galaxies. 2024 The Author(s). Beyond the Stats: How Investment Decisions Are Influenced by Non-Accounting Data
Making investment decisions is a complex process that is influenced by data from non-accounting and accounting sources. In order to better understand the importance of financial reports in comparison to non-accounting data [1], this article examines this complexity. The study is guided by three main objectives: determining the relative importance of financial reports against non-accounting sources; determining the effect of non-accounting information on investment decisions [2]; and investigating the role of demographic factors on this effect. The study finds that, when making investment decisions, shareholders more frequently turn to non-accounting sources through thorough analysis and statistical testing. Notably, credit rating agencies, stock indices, and brokers all have a big say in how decisions are made, highlighting their significance. This work improves our knowledge of how accounting and non-accounting data interact to influence investment decision-making. It emphasizes how crucial it is to take into account a variety of information sources in order to make wise financial decisions [3]. Beyond the Surface, Delving into du?kha: Buddhist Insights into the Lives of Married Women in a South Indian Metropolis
The modern era has brought women unparalleled opportunities in various fields. However, they still encounter numerous challenges that impede their well-being. This qualitative study explores how Buddhist wisdom can be applied to understand the well-being challenges experienced by married women aged 2539years and residing in Bengaluru, a metropolitan city in India. The study involved conducting semi-structured interviews with eight married women. A thematic analysis of these interviews revealed three main themes, that is, my body, my mind, and my relationship, each with sub-themes falling under the overarching global theme, echoes of unease: unveiling du?khas reflections. The factors driving unsatisfactoriness among the participants were then analysed by applying the Buddhist doctrine of dependent arising to understand the origins of du?kha. This study suggests that Buddhist philosophy provides valuable insights for unravelling the intricacies of the modern womans du?kha and may serve as a potential pathway for women to tap into their inner reservoir of wisdom and compassion, enhancing their overall well-being. Beyond the talk: Parentadolescent sexual socialization in a culture that silences discourse about adolescent sexuality
Objective: This systematic review examined how parents socialize their adolescents' sexual behaviors and attitudes through indirect communication processes. Background: Sexual socialization between parents and adolescents extends beyond formal conversations about sexuality. Understanding indirect sexual socialization can identify messages that may be helpful or harmful to adolescents living in the United States, a culture where family conversations about sex are often uncomfortable and infrequent. Method: We systematically reviewed 41 articles from 20122022 that addressed how U.S. parents indirectly socialize their adolescents' sexuality. Results: Parents conveyed messages about sexuality through their behaviors (modeling behaviors and enforcing rules), words (and silence) in everyday conversations, and emotional reactions to sexual topics. These processes reflected parents' own sexualization within contexts in which sexual behavior during adolescence is seen as inappropriate, embarrassing, or private. Some adolescents internalized parents' indirect sexual socialization. However, parents and adolescents are also agentic and sometimes resisted problematic socialization processes. Conclusion: Findings suggest that a cultural discourse of silence on adolescent sexuality leaves parents unprepared for everyday interactions that present socializing opportunities. Overcoming this lack of preparation requires conscious effort on the part of parents and adolescents. Implications: Understanding indirect sexual socialization processes allows researchers and practitioners to identify strategies to interrupt problematic intergenerational cycles and to challenge the harmful effects of macrolevel political divisiveness on families and children. 2025 The Author(s). Beyond Transcripts: A Learner-Centred Review for Closing the Graduate Skills Gap
The majority of the university graduates leave their courses with high grades, but they usually do not have the necessary skills needed in the working environments including teamwork, problem-solving and digital skills. This disconnect between higher education training and the needs of the industry is what is referred to as the graduate skills gap. The article consists of a literature review from 2020-2025 to explore how learner-centred pedagogy can be used to reduce this gap. The results have shown that project-based learning, real-life assessment, internship and micro-credential equip students better than conventional exams. Employers prefer technical and soft skills to academic performance, but most universities are facing problems with stiff curricula and lack of faculty training. This review proposes the incorporation of practice projects, industry partnership, and online skill records to fill the gap. These are some of the strategies that can be used to equip the students with the competencies needed in the current dynamically changing labour market. 2025 IEEE. -
Beyond trauma: a culturally grounded call for mindfulness and expressive arts in the mental health response to intimate partner violence among tribal women in India
Purpose This commentary aims to explore the urgent need for culturally grounded mental health interventions for tribal women survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) in India. It advocates for the integration of mindfulness-based expressive art therapy (MBAT) as a culturally relevant, trauma-informed approach to healing that aligns with indigenous epistemologies and traditional modes of expression. Design/methodology/approach Using insights from a scoping review of existing literature on mindfulness and expressive art therapies for IPV survivors, this paper critically evaluates the limitations of Western therapeutic models in tribal contexts. It synthesizes theoretical frameworks, empirical evidence and cultural considerations to propose a decolonial model of healing centered on community, nonverbal expression and ancestral wisdom. Findings Mindfulness and expressive art therapies demonstrate efficacy in enhancing emotional regulation, reducing trauma symptoms and fostering resilience among IPV survivors. However, existing interventions often lack cultural adaptation and ignore the sociohistorical realities of tribal communities. This paper finds that when these therapeutic modalities are tailored to tribal worldviews through symbolic imagery, indigenous art forms and collective healing practices they become powerful tools for trauma recovery and identity restoration. Practical implications This commentary offers clear implications for practice, including culturally responsive therapist training, community-based MBAT delivery and participatory program design. It urges policymakers to incorporate MBAT into district-level public health initiatives and calls for further research on culturally adapted interventions in tribal settings. Originality/value This work contributes original insights by reframing MBAT not as an alternative therapy but as a culturally and spiritually congruent first-line approach for tribal IPV survivors. It bridges gaps in both theory and practice by integrating decolonial perspectives, arts-based methodologies and indigenous knowledge systems into mental health discourse. 2025 Emerald Publishing Limited -
Bharatanatyam and Art activism in the Networked Digital Space
All over the world, traditional models of art activism through dance involved performances that reached a limited audience, while the advent of networked digital spaces has vastly expanded the scope of art activism to a global level. Offering a qualitative netnographic exploration of how Bharatanatyam has been employed for such art activism in the digital space, this article examines the implications for this prominent traditional South Indian dance form in terms of stylistic changes as well as viewer reactions. Through content analysis of the viewer responses to ten popular renditions uploaded on YouTube over five years (20162020), we trace how the art form is evolving and how activist goals are reciprocated by the audience. Our findings confirm that Bharatanatyam has great potential to evolve by adapting novel social themes. However, while such contemporary renditions may elicit viewer responses that critically appraise specific social issues and pave the way for social change, the resulting innovations continue to co-exist with old conflicts and tensions about traditional art and its uses. 2023 The Author(s). -
Bi Functional Manganese-Pyridine 2,6 Dicarboxylic Acid Metal Organic Frameworks with Reduced Graphene Oxide as an Electroactive Material for Energy Storage and Water Splitting Applications
In recent years, metal organic frameworks (MOFs) with porous carbon materials have significantly improved the design and engineering of high performance electrode materials and have found applications in energy storage devices. This study explores the supercapacitor and electrocatalytic water splitting applications of Mn-MOF/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) composite synthesized via a hydrothermal technique using pyridine 2,6 dicarboxylic acid as a linker. Mn-MOF/rGO exhibits a specific capacitance of 428.28 F g?1 with a rate capability of 83.7% and high cyclic stability. The oxygen evolution reaction of the composite is evaluated using linear sweep voltammetry, and the overpotential is calculated to be 400 mV. Our primary goal is to investigate the effect of rGO on the electrochemical response of MOF. The dielectrode (Mn-MOF/rGO) electrolysis system exhibits long-run stability with a low cell potential of 1.8 V, indicating its prospective application as an excellent water electrolyzer. The combination of Mn-MOF with rGO helps in increasing the number of active sites, thereby improving its electronic conductivity by enhancing the electron transfer rate. The outstanding electrochemical behaviour of Mn-MOF/rGO paves the way for the use of rGO-incorporated Mn-MOF in bifunctional applications as energy-generating and storage devices. 2023 The Electrochemical Society (ECS). Bibliographic Analysis of Soft Computing Components from 1999 2018 in India
The core component of the Soft Computing (SC) domain gives outstanding performances for solving problems compared to other problems solving techniques. In order to solve difficult problems, the majority of researchers are concentrating on the soft computing field. The sub-domains of the soft computing field include Genetic Algorithms, Fuzzy Logic, Machine Learning, Neural Networks, and others. In this paper, we aimed to investigate the contributions made by Indian organizations and authors on the topic of soft computing and its applications for the years 1999 to 2018 for the Scopus database. The study confirmed that the most number of papers published in the neural network with a count of 2127 and the most productive author was M.ChintamaniDeo, with 22 papers with the highest h-index and the Indian Institute of Technology, The most productive institution in the subject of Soft Computing is Roorkee, which has contributed 109 publications overall, garnered 355 citations, and has an h-index of 9. This led us to the conclusion that, in comparison to other sub-domains in the field of Soft Computing and its Applications, Indian Institutions and Indian Authors have produced the majority of publications in Neural Networks and Artificial Intelligence. 2024, Ismail Saritas.
