Time of Emergence and Future Projections of Extremes of Malaria Infections in Africa
The spread of malaria is a major health burden, which affects many people in Africa, depends on climate but also socio-economic conditions. Thus, it is important to gauge the impact of anthropogenic global warming on malaria and attribute anthropogenic causes. Here we compute the Time Of Emergence of vector density and of the entomological inoculation rate (EIR) in the SSP3-7.0 scenario using 50 bias-corrected members of Community Earth System Model version 2 Large Ensemble simulations. This reveals that vector density, which depends on climate conditions, and EIR, which depends on both climate and population density, will rise significantly and permanently above the pre-industrial background variability due to anthropogenic causes in Africa. Both the vector density and EIR have areas, mainly in central Africa, where anthropogenic causes have already significantly changed, and many more areas will experience anthropogenic caused changes in the period 20302050 and toward the end of this century. Our simulations also show clear evidence that extremes of vector density and EIR increase in the future by almost 100%, suggesting that major malaria epidemic outbreaks will become much more likely. We also perform simulations with constant population and with no global warming which partly reveal underlying malaria dynamics. Our results highlight the need to prepare for an expansion and intensification of the malaria burden if no health interventions are being taken. 2025 The Author(s). Parental beliefs about positive affect and parental depressive symptoms predicting parents' positive emotion socialisation in India
Emerging literature examines implications of parental socialisation of positive affect (PA) for children's socio-emotional functioning, though little is known about predictors of parental PA socialisation behaviours in diverse families around the world. Based on the literature that suggests that parental cognitions (Okagaki & Bingham, 2005) and their own mood state contribute to their parenting (Dix & Meunier, 2009), we examined two parent-related factors (parental beliefs regarding PA and depressive symptoms) as predictors of parental responses to their adolescents' PA in an urban middle-class sample of mothers and fathers from India (N = 267; 40.4% mothers). Parents completed measures of their PA-related beliefs, depressive symptomatology, and their responses to adolescents' PA at two-time points, 5 months apart. Parental PA-related beliefs showed low stability and depressive symptoms showed moderate stability across time. There were concurrent bivariate associations between parental PA-related beliefs and their socialisation behaviours, though these relations did not hold in multivariate path analyses across time. Parental depressive symptoms at T1 inversely predicted family savouring at T2 and positively predicted dampening at T2. These findings provide the first line of evidence indicating that parental cognitions and their own mood contribute to their emotion-related parenting behaviours in India. 2022 The Authors. Experimental Investigations on the Thermal Diffusion Characteristics and Photoluminescence in Multiphase Micro Fluids Containing ZnO Micro Tubes and Fluorescein Dye
Abstract: Scattering of light by disordered structures is normally detrimental to their applicability in many optoelectronic devices. However, some micro and nanostructures are useful in enhancing several optical and thermal properties like emission, heat diffusion etc. For this purpose, we have optimized the low temperature hydrothermal growth method for the ZnO micro tubes which leads to the growth of ZnO as mono dispersed micro tubes. Further, these samples were used to enhance the fluorescence efficiency of disordered media consisting of micro tubes of ZnO and fluorescein dye and to optimize the thermal diffusion of the mixture which will help us optimize the composition of these microscopic inclusions in designing a random lasing medium. Dual beam thermal lens method was used for this purpose. 2020, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. -
Cost Effective and Energy Efficient Drip Irrigation System for IoT Enabled Smart Agriculture
The conventional methods of smart farming consume a significant percentage of the resources such as water, electricity, and manpower. This approach demands more time, money, and effort. The state of the art drip irrigation methods make use of the solenoid valve to control the water flow. The problem with such a system is reflected in its power consumption which is a significant factor for large-scale demands. The method proposed in this paper addresses this problem by developing an automated drip irrigation system that replaces components used in conventional methods with its economical counterparts in the market. A system using Node MCU, DC submersible motor, and soil moisture sensor is developed to automate the irrigation process ensuring efficient water and energy consumption. Since the proposed system utilizes economically cheaper components, it provides an upper edge over other systems in terms of expenditure and in turn economically feasible for large-scale demands. A mobile application is also developed to control, monitor, and schedule irrigation processes. The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024. -
Automated Contactless Continuous Temperature Monitoring System for Pandemic Disease Controlling Infrastructures
People are being thermally screened in hospitals and in such facilities, all the data collected must be stored and displayed. The person responsible for keeping track of people's body temperatures must put in more time and effort. This approach is a tedious task, especially during times of dealing with the pandemic diseases like Covid-19. Hence, in this paper, an automated contactless continuous temperature monitoring system is designed to eliminate this time-consuming process. If a person's temperature is too high, that is, higher than the usual temperature range, the system records it and monitors it continuously via a mobile application. In this paper, we present the development of an Automated contactless continuous body temperature monitoring system using a Raspberry Pi camera and mobile application. 2023 IEEE. -

Ethnic Food: A Solution With Sustainable Food Resources A Study On Consumer Awareness Of Ethnic Food And Its Impact On Consumption Attitude
Food has seen numerous transformations over the centuries and has been a focus of study pertaining to culture and evolution. Besides being a celebration of diversity and a marker of human adaptations, food is also a broad knowledge domain that represents various geographic, cultural and lifestyle outlooks. Ethnic food relates to a heritage or the culture of an ethnic group with them incorporating the local produce and animal sources into their diet. Ethnic food also has a sustainability aspect to it in terms of food miles and carbon emissions since more transportation involved means higher level of GHG released, economic aspect such as with composition changes and food security, and community relationship. This paper finds that when consumer awareness of ethnic food increases, the consumption attitude towards it does, too. This could be of importance in policy implementation and identifying sustainability systems. A connection with the land and a community relationship involving food could help represent more ethnic food, to increase awareness on a global level and also allow more people to experience these vast cultural diversities. If understood well and implemented, ethnic food could be of use as a tourism brochure, sustainability driver, economical promoter and community supporter. The Electrochemical Society -

Influence of Self-Compassion, Self-Reflection, and Insight on Interpersonal Competence in Emerging Adults
Social relationships have been declining over the years, especially after the pandemic. Therefore, it becomes important to understand what influences ones social relationships. The present study investigated the influence of self-compassion, self-reflection, and insight on interpersonal competence among emerging adults. It also aimed to understand if having a psychology background in education and experience of therapy is associated with the participants levels of self-compassion, self-reflection, and insight. Using convenience sampling, a sample of N = 335 undergraduate and postgraduate students was selected to answer the Self-Compassion Scale Short Form, Self-Reflection and Insight Scale, and Interpersonal Competence Questionnaire that were circulated electronically along with a consent form. Statistical analysis using Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression indicated that self-compassion, self-reflection, and insight each have positive relationships with interpersonal competence with self-compassion and self-reflection together significantly predicting 13.5% variance in interpersonal competence. Analysis using independent samples t-test indicated that there are significant differences in self-reflection and insight scores between those who have experience in psychology education and therapy and those who lack them. These findings strengthen the understanding that aspects of oneself are related to their social relationships and strengths and problems in one domain could be linked to the same in others. Future research can focus on developing interventions aimed at improving interpersonal competence through self-compassion and self-reflection. Further, influence of other aspects of self on interpersonal competence can also be explored to strengthen the proposed theory of relationship between self and others. Monoclinic Y2O3: Ce nanophosphors synthesized by wet chemical precipitation method
UV emitting nanophosphors draws attention from many researchers currently due to the diverse applications ranging from UV LEDs to phototherapy. The current work is an investigation of monoclinic yttrium oxide doped with cerium synthesized by means of wet chemical precipitation at low temperature (90 C). Raman analysis and TEM experiments confirmed the formation of monoclinic phase and XPS analysis proves the presence of Ce3+ energy levels. UV experiments delivered strong absorption in the short UV region and photoluminescence experiments demonstrated the material's capability to emit in the long UV region. Surface area measurements by BET analysis established the relationship between the BET surface area and luminescence intensity. This emission range is suitable for therapeutical application especially for skin diseases which further extends the scope of the work. 2023 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l. -
Privacy breach perceptions and litigation intentions: Evidence from e-commerce customers
This paper examines the formation of litigation intentions among e-commerce customers under the privacy breach due to the influence of antecedents such as vulnerability, social risk, privacy dispositions, effectiveness privacy policy, awareness of data management and moderators such as privacy control beliefs, efficacy in coping and litigation complexity. A structural equation modelling analysis revealed that reasons for privacy breach perceptions are customer dispositions about privacy, anticipated vulnerability due to privacy breach, and social risk related to personal information disclosure. The control beliefs and coping skills of customers under privacy threat positively moderate litigation intentions. Similarly, the task complexity of litigation significantly reduces litigation intentions. 2021 -
Are there bubbles in sectoral indices? Evidence from national stock exchange
Trading at prices above their fundamental values has been referred to as stock market Bubbles. These Bubbles, when Busted, can lead to a market Crash. From experience, it is a well-known fact that Bubbles initially occur in one particular sector and later spread to the aggregate markets, leading to the collapse of the entire market. This paper attempts to test the existence of bubbles in Indian Sectoral Indices. Previous studies have proven that sectoral indices do not mimic the market behaviour and the reaction of the sectors tends to be different compared to the markets response. In that context, the paper aims to explore the existence of bubbles sector-wise rather than aggregate market-wise. The presence of bubbles is confirmed through the Superior and flawless method called the GSADF test is more flexible and reliable than RADF (Rolling Augmented Dickey-Fuller) and Supremum Augmented DickeyFuller (SADF) methods. Findings reveal that not all sectors experience bubbles at the same time. During the study period, the Automobile, financial services, Media and Private sector banking sectors experienced bubbles. Detected bubbles were also found at different times in these sectors. The study helps investors who focus investments in a specific sector to capitalise on price movements once they can time-stamp the occurrence of bubbles. The study provides essential input for investors in taking timely investment decisions. Further results of our study could enable policymakers to instil corrective actions to put the markets back on track when the index falsely deviates from intrinsic values. 2022 The Author(s). Growth of cerium oxide nanorods by hydrothermal method and electrochromic properties of CeO2/WO3 hybrid thin films for smart window applications
Innovative electrochromogenic nanomaterials such as composite materials and also hybrid films can improve electrochromic performance, because of their potential application qualities in electronic, low-power screens, automotive anti-reflect mirrors, and smart windows. In this study, we used a hydrothermal method to used grow the CeO2 nanorods both with and without HCl added to the solution. And also, DC magnetron sputtering was used to deposit the tungsten oxide films on the cerium oxide nanorods. The surface plasmon effect changes with the size of CeO2 Nanorods, and this phenomenon influences electrochromic outcomes. The electrochromic characteristics of CeO2/WO3 nanostructures on FTO-coated glass are examined in the visible spectrum to use a 0.5 M concentration of H2SO4 as such electrolyte. At 600 nm, these structures produce significant optical modulation (50 %) and coloring efficiency (11.60 cm2/C at 700 nm). 2022 -
Thickness dependent tungsten trioxide thin films deposited using DC magnetron sputtering for electrochromic applications
DC magnetron sputtering was used to grow tungsten oxide (WO3) thin films on FTO and corning substrates. SEM, XRD, Electrochemical Analyzer, and UVVis Spectrometer were used to analyze surface morphology, structural properties, electrochromic characteristics, and optical characteristics. At an 800 nm wavelength, a decrease in thin-film thickness increased optical transmittance from 87 % to 95 %. Furthermore, coloring efficiency was observed to vary with the thickness of thin films for both 500 nm and 375 nm are 10.34 cm2 C-1 to 18.57 cm2 C-1. In comparison to the high-thickness thin film, the lesser-thickness deposited nano-thin film has a higher diffusion coefficient. At 8 10-4 mbar partial pressure, the diffusion coefficients for the smaller and the high-thickness thin film are 7.28x10-14 cm2s?1 and 6.0x10-14 cm2s?1, respectively. The diffusion coefficient and coloring efficiency have been found to have a considerable influence on the thickness and surface-to-volume ratio, which could be important in electrochromic applications. 2022 -

Nexus Between Interest Rate Risk and Economic Value of Equity of Banks
This analytical study looks to provide recommendations to the banking sector on different policies and regulations by examining certain aspects of the Basel III accord, which was designed to manage specific operational, capital and market risks of banks. A review of extant literature reveals that only a few papers have been written on simulation-based approaches, using basis and re-pricing risks. We look to connect this as a source while attempting to define and measure the impact of interest rate risk (IRR) on the economic value of equity (EVE) of banks. We propose to use the driverdriven method, wherein interest rate shocks are derived through prime lending rate (PLR) for the period of 20162019 in the context of India. Monte Carlo Simulation and OLS regression was performed to predict the IRR; Granger causality was used to examine the cause and effect relationship; the impulse response function (IRF) was used for sensitivity analysis; and the vector error correction model (VECM) technique was used for co-integrating relationships. Notably, the EVE movement caused due to shocks in interest rates had to be traced as it envisages probable EVE losses. Importantly, our study is among the first few to show the relationship between IRR and EVE of banks, especially after the deregulation of Indian banking sector. 2021 IMI -
