Cross-Platform vs. Native Mobile Development: A Comprehensive Study Using an Expense Tracker Application
In this paper, the Native Android, Flutter, and React Native are compared in an empirical way with the help of an Expense Tracker application on Android (Pixel 6, Android 14). The Native, Flutter, and React Native had an average start up time of 1.5 s, 2.4 s, and 3.0 s respectively. Maintainability Indexes and SUS scores demonstrate that Flutter provides efficiency without affecting the code quality. It was measured using standardized tools Android Studio Profiler, Trepn Profiler and SonarQube to measure performance, scalability and security. Findings show that Native Android provides the best performance and security, and Flutter is 35 times faster to develop and has a well-maintained code. Results guide the choice of frameworks by practitioners. 2025 IEEE. -
Learning Science: A Joyful Experience
Learning science and particularly subjects like chemistry is challenging for the gen zee students. The imaginative and thoughtful interventions by the teachers can tackle this to a great extent and make it enjoyable for the learners. This manuscript examines the basic concepts of learning sciences and the role of teachers in facilitating a joyful learning. A set of techniques for good learning to be reinforced and a set of wrong techniques which needs to be avoided are looked into. Concepts like adult learning, significance of history of science and lifelong learning are also discussed. This made a rethinking on the entire process of scientific education and research in terms of its social commitment which resulted in government of India coming up with a policy document. Antibacterial Efficacy of Oreochromis niloticus Mucus and its Characterization
Investigating new antimicrobial agents from various biological sources is necessary due to the rise of bacteria that are resistant to drugs. A neglected source of bioactive substances with possible antibacterial qualities is fish, especially Oreochromis niloticus (Nile tilapia). This study identifies the bioactive components of extracts made from O. niloticus and examines their antibacterial activity. PBS and sterile water were used to remove fish mucus using a solvent. Using the agar well diffusion method, extracts were tested for antibacterial activity against a panel of Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, B. cereus), Gram-negative bacteria (Klebsiella pneumoniae, P. aeruginosa), and fungus (Candida albicans). The presence of hydroxyl and amide functional groups, which are suggestive of proteins and polyphenolic substances, was further validated by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The study demonstrates O. niloticuss antibacterial potential, with its mucus being an exceptionally abundant source of bioactive substances. These results highlight the potential of fish-derived antimicrobial compounds as substitutes for traditional antibiotics. The isolation, structural clarification, and possible therapeutic uses of these chemicals should be the main areas of future study. Furthermore, to guarantee the efficacy and safety of these natural compounds, knowledge of their toxicity profiles and mechanisms of action is crucial. In the fight against antibiotic resistance, this study helps to establish sustainable bioresources and expands our knowledge of O. niloticuss antibacterial potential. The Author(s) 2025. -
Leveraging Hybrid Dual-Level Contextual Attention and Spiking Neural Networks for Effective Hepatic Malignancy Diagnosis
s Abstract Liver cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related mortality, prompt-ing advanced diagnostic techniques for early detection and accurate classification in the health sector worldwide. Multifaceted deep learning methods have shown significant potential in medical imaging, but challenges exist in capturing intricate contextual information. In our research, we propose a novel hybrid framework that integrates Dual-Level Contextual Attention (DLCA) with Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) to enhance the diagnosis of liver cancer. The proposed framework uses a DLCA mechanism that effectively extracts both local and global contextual features within the medical images and aids in precise lesion differentiation. The SNNs module supports computational efficiency and robust pattern recognition, enabling precise identification of subtle cancerous patterns by reducing redundant activations while preserving critical diagnostic information. Experimental evaluations on publically available datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our work, showcasing its reliability in clinical applications. Adapting Employee Engagement Strategies Amid Crisis: Insights from the COVID-19 Pandemic
Crises are unpredictable events that have the potential to strike at any moment, causing significant disruptions to work, daily routines, and the normal course of life. The COVID-19 Pandemic served as a facilitator for transformative changes in the way we work, shifting to an era of remote and flexible work arrangements across industries. This crisis underlined the importance of employee engagement and organizational culture-building in navigating unforeseen situations. As organizations prepare for the future, it becomes crucial to anticipate and adapt to potential crises that may arise. The effect of the pandemic varied from industry to industry. When the technology industry worked towards creating a virtual workspace, the production industry strived to continue production without disruption. However, irrespective of the industry, HR teams across the board were dedicated to identifying and addressing the challenges posed by the crisis. They have worked tirelessly to ensure employee engagement remains a priority. This qualitative study explores the challenges encountered by HR teams during the pandemic and explores the strategies and policies they adopted to foster employee engagement. The data was collected through an in-depth interview with 39 HR Practitioners from different industries. The significant challenges included the need to cultivate a sense of community, navigate muddled up HR processes, sustain productivity amid disruptions, and prioritize employee wellness. To provide a comprehensive analysis, this study examined industry-specific approaches, employing within-case analysis to understand key strategies in communication, rewards and recognition, employee benefits, wellness initiatives, and fostering an enjoyable virtual workplace. This study offers a forward-looking perspective and serves as a guide for organizations aiming to thrive in times of uncertainty, ensuring that employee engagement remains a strategic priority regardless of the crisis at hand. Farm bills in the parliament: impact of farmers protest and the democratisation of legislative process in India
This research article analyses the impact of the farmers agitation on the legislative process in India. The Indian farmers protest against the 2020 Indian Agriculture Reform Acts, dubbed as Kala Kanoon (black laws), not only voiced dissatisfaction with the contents of the farm bills but also confronted the undemocratic legislative practices. We provide descriptive evidence by discussing five major dimensions of the impact of the protest and the outcome i.e. the repeal of the laws. First, the protest movement and the resultant repeal helped discern a valuable public policy lesson to abandon top-down policy-making. Second, the protest questioned the bureaucratic approach to legislation that excluded the primary stakeholder group from policy-making. Third, it revealed the diminished role of the legislature and the concentration of power in the executive. Fourth, it exposed vulnerabilities in the parliamentary system when the ruling party holds a brute majority. Fifth, the protest emphasized the importance of state autonomy and legislative accountability to hold the executive accountable. We conclude with the summation of the major arguments from the discussion by highlighting the implications of the farmers movement for Indias future legislative processes. 2024 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group. -
Spectroscopic analysis of lead borate systems
Oxide glass systems are interesting because of their bonding like bridging and non-bridging oxygens. Depending on the modifier, the B2O3 glass system can have various Boron-Oxygen network. It is found that, PbO modifies the borate network and increases the formation of penta and diborate groups. In this work, we investigated optical properties of Lead Borate glass systems (x PbO: (1-x) B2O3) with x varying from 30-85 mol % using UV-VIS Spectra and the corresponding band gap was estimated using Tauc relation and these systems behave like direct allowed band gap systems. These results show that, Eg decreases with the addition of lead content. Further the refractive index measurements also have been carried out at various wavelengths. Many correlation is found between the band gap and refractive index for different compositions. Using different theoretical models a best fit has been tried and Ravindra's relation is found to match with our experimental results. 2018 Author(s). -
Cross-language contributions of rapid automatized naming to reading accuracy and fluency in young adults: evidence from eight languages representing different writing systems
Rapid automatized naming (RAN) is a strong predictor of reading across languages. However, it remains unclear if the effects of RAN in first language (L1) transfer to reading in second language (L2) and if the results vary as a function of the orthographic proximity of L1L2. To fill this gap in the literature, we examined the role of RAN in reading accuracy and fluency in eight languages representing different writing systems. Seven hundred and thirty-five university students (85 Chinese-, 84 Japanese-, 100 Kannada-, 40 Oriya-, 115 English-, 115 Arabic-, 105 Portuguese-, and 91 Spanish-speaking) participated in our study. They were assessed on RAN (Digits and Objects) and reading (accuracy and fluency) in both L1 and L2 (English). Results of hierarchical regression analyses showed significant effects of L1 RAN on L2 reading accuracy in the Chinese-, Portuguese-, and Spanish-speaking groups. In addition, L2 RAN was a significant predictor of reading fluency in L1 in the same language groups. No cross-language transfer was observed in the other languages. These findings suggest first that L1 and L2 RAN capture similar processes and controlling for one does not leave unique variance for the other to explain. Second, to the extent there is cross-language transfer of RAN skills, this appears to be independent of the orthographic proximity of the languages. 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. -
