Impact of sentimental factors on stock portfolio returns an empirical analysis
This study aims to introduce an integrated model for understanding the influence of various sentimental factors in conjunction with macroeconomic factors on portfolio returns across ten industry sectors within the US market. These sentimental factors are categorized into market-wide, consumer, and individual stock market factors to assess their impact on industry portfolio returns. Employing the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model, the study evaluates the effects of macroeconomic and sentimental factors on stock market portfolio returns. The findings reveal a negative relationship between short-term interest rates and portfolio returns in specific industry sectors like manufacturing, telecom, and wholesale/retail. The study finds a positive relationship between the Hi-tech sector's risk spread and portfolio returns. Market sentimental factors positively influence portfolio returns of durable, non-durable, utility, and other sectors. Individual sentimental factors negatively impact portfolio returns in hi-tech, utility, durable, energy, and other sectors. The stock market-related individual, sentimental factor of the number of IPOs has a positive impact on portfolio returns in the energy sector and a negative impact on portfolio returns in other sectors. Consumer sentimental factors are significant positive determinants for portfolio returns in durable, energy, telecom, health, and other sectors. Discounts on closed-end funds may provide vital fundamental information regarding lower future earnings for stocks in the durable and energy sectors. Impact of social media conversations on consumers online purchase intention
The objective of this paper is to explain how social media has impacted the consumer decision process as heavy use of social media has created a new landscape which lays out a new avenue for personal connections. The paper also explores how individuals are seeking information on social media and how they are processing and selecting the information before making the final purchase. The empirical data for the study has been gathered using a structured questionnaire. The descriptive statistics were performed for the select parameters of the survey instrument. The findings confirm that there is significant variance between age, income, occupation, and gender with online purchase intention of consumers. Also, the results confirm that social conversation is a significant predictor of online purchase intentions. The research findings suggest that consumers in India are actively utilising social media platforms as a key tool in validating their purchase decision. Impact of social media on consumer decisiveness in the food and grocery sector
Consumers are currently inclined to acknowledge online information but purchase food and grocery products offline. Impact of Social Networking Sites on Academic Performance and Career through Collaborative Learning (with Reference to Students of Self-financing Engineering Colleges in Tiruchirappalli)
Use of Social Networking Sites (SNSs) is having a growing importance among students in their everyday life. It acts as an essential tool for them in higher level education. Among the social networking sites Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, LinkedIn is gaining more support from the student community. It helps the students to communicate each other directly like face to face interaction. SNSs are having an ability to induce students decision making capability. Based on this, the study tries to emphasize the ability of the SNSs to induce the students academic performance using collaborative learning among various groups in which they belong. The result reveals that collaborative learning will have a major impact on academic performance, i.e. 49.6% of the respondents stated that they are using SNSs for academic purpose. Impact of social-emotional learning intervention on emotional intelligence of adolescents
Adolescents face a variety of challenges, some of which include social, emotional, cognitive, and interpersonal. In order to help them with their emotions, adolescents should be taught a variety of skills to regulate and handle emotions better. With this intent in mind, a social-emotional learning (SEL) intervention module was developed by the researchers. This module covered aspects related to self-awareness, social awareness, responsibility, empathy and decision-making. These components also form the basis for emotional intelligence (EI) which is defined as the ability to perceive, understand, and regulate emotions of oneself and others. The present study aimed to understand if there arises any difference in scores of EI post the SEL intervention. Second, the gender differences with respect to EI were also be analyzed. The EI Scale (2014) was administered to 80 students between the age group of 13-14 years, from a CBSE school in Chennai. These adolescents were selected through the convenience sampling, and the four subscales were also analyzed. The findings from the study revealed a significant difference in scores from pretest to posttest (t = -4.66, P < 0.05). With respect to gender, no significant difference was found. On the subscales, two of four subscales showed significant difference in understanding emotions (Z = -4.63, P < 0.05) and handling emotions (Z = -4.023, P < 0.05). Impact of Technology Readiness and Techno Stress on Teacher Engagement in Higher Secondary Schools
Rapid technology advancements resulted a fundamental shift in the education sector which redefined the teaching-learning process and teacher engagement. Based on numerous studies on work engagement models and technology readiness, this study explores, how the teachers' readiness to embrace educational technologies, impact on teacher engagement. With stratified cluster sampling model, data were collected from principals, managers, students and 122 teaching staff from the Higher Secondary Schools of Kerala participated in this quantitative study using standardized tools. The study affirmed that age has negative relation with technology readiness and teacher engagement shows an organic technology adoption trend than a disruptive style. Teachers were highly engaged with students-colleagues and varied across experience/age groups. Technology readiness factors positively impacted on social engagements with students-colleagues. Impact of terminal group on azobenzene liquid crystal dimers for photo-responsive optical storage devices
Three new series of photo responsive dimers bearing different terminal functional groups (-CN, -COOEt, -OMe) and variable aliphatic spacers have been synthesized and investigated in detail. The molecular structures of the new materials were proved using different spectroscopic techniques and their liquid crystal self-assembly was characterized using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarized light microscope (POM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Moreover, their photo switching behaviour was investigated in details in solution. The results revealed that, almost all members of the dimeric materials are mesomorphic exhibit either nematic or both smectic A and nematic phases. Under UV illumination the materials show interesting photo-switching properties, reaching a photo-stationary state in 40 s and a thermal back-relaxation time of approximately 35 h in solution. Finally, a fabricated device authenticates the potential of the reported materials for optical storage devices. 2023 Elsevier B.V. -
Impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on the currency exchanges of selected countries
The paper aims to analyse the impact of the COVID outbreak on the currency market. The study considers spot rates of seven major currencies (i.e., EUR/USD, USD/JPY, GBP/USD, AUD/USD, USD/CAD, USD/CHF, and CHF/JPY). To capture the impact of the outbreak on returns and the volatility of returns of seven currencies during pandemic, the study has segregated in two window periods (i.e., pre- [1st Jan 2019 to 31st Dec, 2019] and post-outbreak of COVID-19 [1st Jan, 2020 to 22nd Dec, 2020]). The study has applied various methods and models (i.e., econometric-based compounded annual growth rate [CAGR], dummy variable regression, and generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity [GARCH]). The result of the study captures the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on three currencies-USD/JPY, AUD/USD, and USD/CHF-and positive significant impact on EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/CAD, and CHF/JPY. Investors can take short position in these while having long position in other currencies. The inferences drawn from the analysis are providing insight to investors and hedgers. Impact of the operational parameters of a dual fuel engine operating on a blend of Water Hyacinth biodiesel and Mesua ferrea biodiesel with hydrogenA clean development mechanism
The study was conducted to uncover the emission, combustion, and performance features of the blend of Water Hyacinth biodiesel and Mesua Ferrea seed oil biodiesel with Hydrogen addition on a diesel engine in dual fuel. Pilot fuel is a blend of 50% Water Hyacinth biodiesel and 50% Mesua Ferrea seed oil biodiesel. A single-cylinder compression ignition engine was modified to operate on dual fuel mode with hydrogen. Variations of engine operating parameters such as injection timing, and engine load were performed. The study was conducted with three pilot fuel injection timings (23, 26, and 29bTDC) and variable engine loadings (20%100% with an increment of 20%) at an injection pressure of 200 bar and compression ratio of 18. The results indicated that the maximum brake thermal efficiency of 28.11% and a replacement of liquid fuel by 85% was obtained for the WHMF blend powered dual fuel diesel engine at pilot fuel injection timings of 26bTDC at 100% load. HC, CO, and smoke emissions are reduced with hydrogen due to faster combustion. Impact of the Pandemic on Entrepreneurial Ecosystems
Entrepreneurship is crucial for the global economy, as it helps ideas develop from the drawing board to an executable stage. An excellent economic state of a country is the outcome of a well-designed system where the stakeholders interact with each other towards innovation and social development. This study is an empirical investigation into the COVID pandemic and its effects on the Indian entrepreneurial eco-system. Primary data was collected from 155 entrepreneurs of India, who were independent and first movers of entrepreneurs in their family during COVID times. Poor planning, exhausting resources, a slowdown in productivity, lower employment, and employee retention were the after-effects of the pandemic. It was found that the pandemic negatively affected the entrepreneurial ecosystem and its stakeholders. However, constant support by the government and well-designed policy measures would help assist existing businesses affected due to COVID-19 and encourage the entrepreneurial future in India. Impact of Urban Environmental Quality, Residential Satisfaction, and Personality on Quality of Life among Residents of Delhi/NCR
Environmental quality and Sustainability seek to preserve, enhance and protect our environmental resources that directly aim at providing an amicable quality of life and sustainable development for the upcoming generations. Considering the hazardous environmental urban quality in Delhi NCR, air pollution is the topmost factor deteriorating health of the population in general. The urban air database by WHO reports Delhi exceeding the maximum PM10 limit by almost 10-times at 292 ?g/m3. Noticing that an individual's surroundings have an enormous value in human lives, the study aimed at understanding the impact of urban environmental quality, residential satisfaction, and personality on the quality of life among residents of Delhi NCR. In addition, we also track the environmental worldviews to attitudes on pro-environmental behavior in understanding sustainability. The results from the SEM model indicated that one index rise in RESS lead to a fall in quality of life by 0.029-point value whereas one index rise in personality could enhance the quality of life by 0.15-point value. Pro-Environmental Behaviors and Urban Environmental factors did not showcase any significant impact on the quality of life. The Electrochemical Society. -
Impact of use of technology on student learning outcomes: Evidence from a large-scale experiment in India
One of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG-4) adopted by the United Nations focuses on ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all. Most research on impact of technology on learning outcomes depends on designs that require low student-to-computer ratio and extensive retraining of teachers. These requirements make the designs difficult to implement on a large scale and hence are limited in terms of inclusivity and ability to provide equitable opportunity for all. Our paper is the first to evaluate an intervention design that is aimed at dealing with these concerns. We conduct a large-scale randomised field experiment in 1823 rural government schools in India that uses technology-aided teaching to replace one-third of traditional classroom teaching. Even with high student-to-computer ratios and minimal teacher training, we observe a positive impact on student learning outcomes. The study thus presents a low cost, resource-light design, which can be implemented in a developing country on a large scale to address the problem of poor learning outcomes, thereby making the intervention inclusive and equitable in line with the spirit of SDG-4. 2019 Elsevier Ltd -

Impact of user-generated content on purchase intention for fashion products: A study on women consumers in Bangalore
The advent of online media has been instrumental in providing consumers with quick, relevant, and convenient information on products and services. The success of such media has been established for businesses such as tourism, automobile, and consumer electronics- wherein consumers tend to decide on final purchases based on user - generated content (UGC) such as customer reviews and feedback rather than on traditional advertising media. With short lead times, quick turnaround of products, and frequent changes in offerings, the fashion industry is also exploring the use of such user-generated content for marketing its products. This study sought to explore and understand the relevant factors that draw consumers towards the usage of user-generated content (UGC) in the online space for the fashion business, and its impact on the purchase intention for different categories of fashion products. The study focused on the cosmopolitan city of Bengaluru, known for its fashion centricity and brand awareness. It attempted to analyze the factors for reference to media content generated by co-consumers, especially amongst women, and inferred that content that provides them with gratifications relating to social acceptance are more liable to positively influence their intent to purchase. It also specifically identified product categories that are liable to benefit from such content. -
Impact of Using Partial Gait Energy Images for Human Recognition by Gait Analysis
Gait analysis is a behavioral biometric that classifies human, based on how they walk and other variables involved in the forward movement. In this study, we have attempted to comprehend the significance of the upper portion of the body in gait analysis for human recognition. The data for this study came from the CASIA dataset, which was donated by the Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Automation. We began by extracting the gait energy image (GEI) from the dataset and employing principal component analysis to minimize the dimensionality (PCA). For classification, random forest, support vector machine (SVM), and convolution neural network (CNN) algorithms are implemented to recognize the human subjects. This paper provides experimental results to show the accuracy attained when classification is done on GEI of full-body images is higher than the accuracy attained when classification is done on GEI of the lower portion of the body only. Impact of Variable Distributed Generation on Distribution System Voltage Stability
With advances in renewable energy (RE)technologies and the promotion of restructuring, distributed energy (DG)sources play a vital role in today's power sector. From the technical and economic point of view, DG sources provide a no of benefits such as lesser system losses, better system voltage profile and lower line congestion. The aim of this work is to determine the voltage stability of a distribution system at different levels of DG compensation determined as a percentage of the total load on the system. The objective function is formulated to minimize the real power loss. At first, the locations are chosen based on strategy using Loss Sensitivity Factors (LSF)and the optimal sizing of multiple units of DG sources is optimized using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO)algorithm. The simulations are performed on standard IEEE 33-bus and 69-bus test systems and the results validate the importance of placing appropriately sized DG sources at suitable locations to achieve improved voltage stability and reduced distribution losses. 2019 IEEE. -
Impact of Variable Viscosity and Gravity Variations on Rayleigh-Bard Instabilities of Viscoelastic Liquids in Energy Sustainable System
Energy sustainability systems are vital for transitioning to a low-carbon economy, addressing climate change, and ensuring a sustainable future for all. Rayleigh-Bard convection (RBC) in viscoelastic liquids is a crucial phenomenon in various industrial and environmental applications, including energy sustainability systems where fluid dynamics play a pivotal role in optimizing heat transfer and system efficiency. The study deals with the combined influence of variable viscosity and variable gravity on RBC in viscoelastic liquids. The influence of space-dependent gravity on the onset of convection is considered. The results are analyzed against the background of constant gravity RBC in viscoelastic/Newtonian liquids with constant/variable viscosity. The possibility of variable gravity accelerating/decelerating the onset of convective instability is examined in this paper. 2024 IEEE. -
Impact of video product presentation and scarcity claim on mobile-based impulse buying
The introduction of mobile shopping apps has resulted in the growth of impulse buying or excessive compulsion, especially in the fashion industry. This paper aims to establish a relationship between app stimuli (including performance expectancy, effort expectancy, atmosphere, layout, and privacy and security) and impulse buying behaviour. Besides this, it also examines the moderating effects of the video product presentation and product scarcity claim and the mediating effects of impulse buying intention and user satisfaction. The study was carried out in two phases. In the first phase, a paired t-test analysis was carried out to compare the mean of each set. This was followed by multi-group structural equation modelling to check the models validity. The results show that while video product presentation produced a significant difference between impulse buying intention and impulse buying behaviour for both the male and female respondents, scarcity claims achieved positive results only for male participants. The SEM results, meanwhile, demonstrated that both the mediating variables bear a relationship to performance expectancy, privacy and security, and impulse buying behaviour. However, effort expectancy was only related to impulse buying intention, while atmosphere and layout were exclusively associated with user satisfaction. Based on the findings of the study, theoretical and managerial implications are presented. 2023 Korean Scholars of Marketing Science.
