Indian perspectives on single-session therapy: an initial qualitative study with psychiatric social workers
Single-Session Therapy (SST) is an emerging approach to mental-health service delivery that maximises the value of a single clinical encounter. It is gaining traction globally for its brevity and potential to address mental health concerns. This study explores perspectives of five Psychiatric Social Workers (PSWs) at a premier Indian psychiatric institute regarding SSTs suitability for the Indian population. Hybrid thematic analysis of a focus group discussion reveals both promising potential and significant challenges for adapting SST to the Indian context. Although participants noted that intentional one-time visits are currently uncommon at their institution, they identified SST as a responsive intervention for addressing caregiver burden and preventing relapse, suggesting its value as a responsive and opportunity-based intervention. Participants raised practical concerns regarding session structure, time constraints, and unpredictability of client return. Despite these cautions, they recognised SSTs potential to widen access to care in India. The discussion emphasises on need for specialised training, supervision, regulatory frameworks, and broader mental health promotion efforts to incorporate SST as a viable therapeutic intervention delivery method. This preliminary investigation serves as a valuable springboard for further research on the potential of SST in a country like India. 2026 GAPS. -
Indian psychology: Challenges, strategies, and prospects in education
Knowledge dissemination has been a hallmark of Indian tradition for millennia, particularly in the area of human biology and behavior. Westernization and globalization, however, have caused a gradual erosion of this rich heritage, resulting in waning interest among the populace. As a discipline, Indian Psychology faces a number of formidable challenges. The number of preconceived biases within society, the Westernized educational system, and the shortage of faculty with expertise in Indian psychology hinder the recognition and dissemination of the field. A dearth of research studies directly related to Indian psychology is also hindering its development and recognition. Emphasis was given on the importance of thorough research to substantiate its contributions to the understanding of human cognition, behavior, and consciousness. Promoting Indian psychology as an important and respected field requires dispelling misconceptions and fostering awareness. Through collaboration and increased research, Indian psychology can rightfully claim its place within the global academic community. 2024, IGI Global. All rights reserved. -

Indian spectroscopic and imaging space telescope (INSIST): An optics design trade-off study
Large ground and space-based surveys in optical and near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths will revolutionize astronomy in the coming decade. Unfortunately, no ultraviolet (UV) facilities are planned to complement these surveys, which is crucial for studying the most active phase of the Universe that includes star formation in galaxies, active galactic nuclei (AGN), galaxy clusters, etc. A dedicated UV mission, the Indian Spectroscopic and Imaging Space Telescope (INSIST), is proposed to observe the UV sky. The compelling science objectives defined a set of high-level mission requirements. According to which, the INSIST is to have a wide field-of-view (FoV ? 0.25 square degree) comparable to Indias Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (UVIT) and about two orders of magnitude larger than that of the Hubble Space Telescope, simultaneous imaging of the FoV in UV (150300nm), u (300400nm) and g (400550nm) bands, a Multi-Object-Slit medium resolution spectroscopy in a narrow FoV in UV and a simultaneous slitless spectroscopic capability in UV and u bands. To achieve these requirements, several optical design configurations were explored. Here, we present an optical design trade study conducted on various optical design configurations to achieve a sensitivity limit of mAB> 26 mag, in the UV band and a spatial resolution better than 0.2 ? , using a 1-m size telescope aperture. We also present results from our fabrication and alignment tolerance analysis of the selected optical designs, and the design performance that meets the design requirements. Critical parameters like the encircled energy concentration, point spread function (its stability over the field), effects of the spiders supporting the secondary, etc., are explored during the design phase. Based on the trade study conducted in reference to various performance matrices, we down-selected the most optimal optical design for the INSIST. 2023, Indian Academy of Sciences. -
Indian Stock Market Prediction Using Neural Networks: A Comparative Analysis
Predicting stock prices remains a challenging problem due to the highly dynamic and nonlinear nature of financial markets. Traditional statistical models like ARIMA and GARCH often fail to capture the complexities inherent in stock market data. This paper investigates the use of deep learning techniques, focusing on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and a hybrid CNN-LSTM ensemble model for stock price prediction in the Indian stock market. The CNN model efficiently extracts temporal patterns from sequential data, while the CNN-LSTM ensemble leverages temporal dependencies for improved long-term prediction accuracy. Historical data from Tata motors, spanning over two decades, was used to train and evaluate the models. Experimental results highlight the CNN-LSTM ensemble's superior performance in capturing volatile trends and long-term dependencies, with a notable decrease in test loss compared to standalone CNN. This study underscores the effectiveness of hybrid deep learning architectures in enhancing prediction reliability, paving the way for more adaptive and robust financial forecasting systems. Indian Wives of Incarcerated Men Tell Their Own Stories: An Intersectional Narrative Analysis of Disenfranchisement and Resilience
Objective: Guided by intersectional feminism and symbolic interactionism, the purpose of this study was to document the untold stories of women with incarcerated spouses in India. Background: When a family member is incarcerated, the task of emotionally and financially supporting the family often falls upon women, who are likely to be underresourced and overwhelmed. Women whose husbands are incarcerated in India are likely to possess multiple marginalized identities, increasing their vulnerability to intersecting forms of oppression. Empirical research is lacking on wives of incarcerated men in India, contributing to their invisibility in policy-making and programmatic interventions. Method: In-depth, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 14 wives of prison inmates who resided in or around the capital city of Delhi, all of whom either held a lower caste identity or a Muslim religious identity. Transcribed interviews were analyzed following the steps of narrative analysis. Results: Results illustrate the diversity of storied experiences of wives of incarcerated husbands in India. Participants' narratives represented three types of stories: Ambivalent but Hanging On, Unconditionally Devoted, and Independent and Disillusioned. Four overarching themes characterized women's experiences with spousal incarceration: gendered care work, being stigmatized and sexualized, staying in the marriage, and ceilings of aspiration. Conclusion: This study renders visible women on the margins of Indian society, illustrating how they make meaning of extraordinary life circumstances and persevere through dire hardship. 2025 The Author(s). Indian women and empowerment: A Kleinian approach
The idea of women empowerment is often understood through the varied social contexts of individuals. There have been many attempts in understanding this notion among Western Educated Industrialized Rich and Democratic (WEIRD) women. A similar exploratory trajectory is seldom found in non-WEIRD samples of women especially those from South East Asian collectivistic cultures. The present study attempts to explore the concept of empowerment among middle-aged women from collectivistic cultures, who are often subjected to benevolent sexism from a social constructivist position. The paper would emphasize notions about the empowerment of ordinary women, particularly with regard to their occupational status. The discussion would be positioned in the cultural context of the Indian subcontinent where gender roles, norms and expectations define the concept of empowerment among women. A psychodynamic Kleinian approach involving object relations is adopted to elaborate on the occupational position of the participants where their interpersonal dynamics are explored. Indias credit growth and asset prices movements; Does the global financial cycle have a moderating role to play?; [Evoluci del crecimiento del crito y de los precios de los activos en la India; Desempe el ciclo financiero mundial un papel moderador?]
This study examines the effect of the global financial cycle on different financial indicators of the Indian economy through experimental analysis. It detects evidence of a connection between contemporaneous changes in capital flows, asset prices, and credit growth, which are related to the Global Financial Cycle (GFCy). The evolution of the cycle is largely driven by the monetary policy decisions of the Federal Reserve, and existing studies have examined the influence of these decisions in different contexts. The current study experimentally examines the effect of the global financial cycle on credit growth and asset prices in India during the period 2010-2023. For the purpose of achieving its goals, the study utilizes advanced time-series econometric techniques, such as the Granger Causality Test, Vector Autoregression (VAR) methodology, and the Impulse Response Function (IRF) test. The outcomes show that the global financial cycle has significant effects on the stock market, as confirmed by the Granger causality and IRF findings. 2019 Universidad Nacional Automa de Mico, Facultad de Contadur y Administraci. Indias Handling of the Covid-19 Crisis: Could a Rights-Based Approach Overcome Systematic Inadequacies?
Covid-19 exposed the fragility and inadequacies in Indias health care system, especially in its public health services. The sudden lockdown imposed during the first wave of the virus severely impacted the livelihoods of millions of migrant workers. Then, in spite of warnings about an impending second wave of infection, the governments failure to prepare the health infrastructure, together with delays in vaccine distribution, cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. Unlike the first wave of infection, the second wave impacted rural India very badly. Taking into consideration the existing social hierarchies and inequalities, it was marginalised groups of the population who bore the brunt of the pandemic. This article analyses the failures of the Indian government in handling the Covid-19 crisis, especially during the second wave, and concludes by suggesting ways in which the state needs to intervene to avert disasters of this kind in the future. It argues for the adoption of a rights-based approach to public health on the grounds that successive governments have not been properly held to account for their long-term failures to address the issue. 2022 The Royal Society for Asian Affairs. -
Indias Outward FDI: Macro-economic Determinants of Home Country
Nevertheless, a gap in the literature remains on the choice of investment destination and rationale backing the investment of Indian MNEs. The study examines the diverse home country determinants of outward FDI from low-and middle-income economies also the motive behind the investment of MNEs, which gained little attention in empirical studies. The role of home country determinants investigated for the most recent period, 1991-2019, using a panel data econometric framework. Results indicate that the home country's economic development level, globalization, political risk and science and technology investments significantly correspond to outward FDI from low-and middle-income countries. The present study analysis recommended that low and middle income governments provide incentivesto attract and retain FDI. Indian Institute of Finance. -
Indias Recent Free Trade Agreements and Alcohol Control: Implications for Public Health and SDG Commitments
Background: India accounts for 20% of the worldwide deaths due to alcohol use, and alcohol use among adolescents and young adults is on the rise. In May 2025, the Government of India negotiated Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with the United Kingdom (UK), the European Union (EU) and a proposed agreement with the United States of America (USA), stipulating sweeping reduction in alcohol tariffs. This paper reviews the public health implications of such reduced tariffs under the FTAs. Materials and Methods: Existing evidence on the public health burden of alcohol use, along with the World Health Organization (WHO) and Government of India policies on alcohol control, and published information on the proposed FTAs, is reviewed. Result: No level of alcohol consumption is safe. Alcohol use disorder affects roughly 9% of Indian men. Extensive legal and constitutional safeguards are available for alcohol control in India. Taxation is one of the most cost-effective interventions to reduce alcohol-related harm. Reduction in alcohol tariffs proposed under the recent FTAs is inconsistent with Sustainable Development Goal 3, WHO policy guidelines, and national legal and constitutional framework for public health and alcohol control. Conclusion: Given the public health burden of alcohol use and Indias commitment to domestic and international alcohol control policies, it must keep cheap imports of alcohol out of the FTAs with the UK, the EU, and the USA. 2026 Indian Journal of Community Medicine. -

Indias role in kazakhstans multi-vector foreign policy
?fter the disintegration of the Soviet Union, Kazakhstans economy was weak since most of the industrial en-terprises were located in Russia. To attain economic growth, Kazakhstan crafted a unique foreign policy known as the multi-vec-tor foreign policy, which facilitated an easy inflow of direct foreign investments into the state economy. After economic liberalization in 1991, India took a serious interest in Cen- tral Asia, and since then the two nations have come a long way marked by complex interde-pendence in the international arena. They have demonstrated a successful and sus-tained upward trend in their bilateral relationship through soft power, trade and long-standing historical connections. Thus, the prospects of mutual cooperation between Central Asia, particularly Kazakhstan, and India are quite promising in the near future. 2021, CA and C Press AB. All rights reserved. -

Indigenous Beliefs and Practices for Sustainability Among the Mao Nagas
The present society of Mao Nagas is sandwiched between trends to modernity and tendencies to be rooted in the cultural past. Prior to the arrival of Christianity, the Maos were considered animists; the sway of the one Supreme Being, and human relations with nature permeated the social, cultural, and spiritual realm. When the sky represented the father, and the earth, the mother; exploitation becomes inconsequential. Despite the odds of having limited ancestral land, the Maos have proven themselves self-sustainable within the place of habitation. The fact that there are no beggars among the Maos proves that certain aspects of the SDGs are ingrained in the beliefs. The Feast of Merit prevented extreme riches in society. With education, the Mao Nagas learned the harmful effects of shifting cultivation and abandoned its entirety. This paper tries to conceptually prove that if ancient beliefs and practices are tempered with scientific knowledge, life is sustainable. Indigenous Knowledge and the Moral Landscape of Energy Transformation
A moral reorientation based on equality and justice is necessary as the world moves away from extraction-driven energy systems and toward sustainable alternatives. This shift calls for more than simply technological advancement. Indigenous knowledge challenges prevailing patterns of exploitation by providing important insights into resource management, community-centered sustainability, and land stewardship. This chapter explores how Indigenous epistemologies are changing the moral terrain of energy transformation, emphasizing the moral necessity of incorporating traditional ecological knowledge into contemporary practice and policy. The study highlights how Indigenous perspectives offer avenues to resilience, climate justice, and intergenerational responsibility by contrasting extractive paradigms with equity-centered methods. In order to achieve equitable and inclusive energy futures, it is not only legally required but also morally necessary to acknowledge and institutionalize Indigenous rights within energy governance. 2026 by IGI Global Scientific Publishing.
