Role of psychological well-being, quality of life and distress tolerance in caregivers of geriatric population: an Indian exploratory study
Purpose: This study aims to gain an understanding of how caring for an ageing population affects caregivers psychological well-being, quality of life and ability to tolerate distress. This study provides valuable insights into the challenges faced by family caregivers and underscores the critical need for comprehensive support systems. Design/methodology/approach: A correlational method and cross-sectional research design was used for the study. For this, a sample of 200 caregivers in the age range of 2560 years who were taking care of the geriatric population above the age of 70 years for a minimum of one year were chosen. Four questionnaires ? Burden Scale for Family Caregivers, Psychological Well-Being Scale, World Health Organizations Quality of Life Scale-BRIEF version and Distress Tolerance Scale were chosen. Correlation and multivariate regression were calculated using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) 21 and Jamovi 3.4.1. Findings: This study found that there is a negative correlation of caregiver burden with psychological well-being, quality of life and distress tolerance. The sub-domains of self-acceptance, psychological health and tolerance levels were most impacted for the caregivers. Through multivariate regression, it was found that the caregiver burden significantly predicted psychological well-being and quality of life. Research limitations/implications: This study focuses on the English-speaking caregivers which may overlook the diverse linguistic and cultural variations within the broader caregiver community in India and the data collection exclusively targeted family caregivers providing support to geriatric population without chronic illnesses. This restriction could potentially limit the generalizability of the findings to the broader caregiving context. Practical implications: The implications of this research are that for caregivers, this study underscores the importance of tailored support programmes that address the negative impact of caregiver burden on psychological well-being and quality of life. Health-care professionals can use the findings to incorporate mental health assessments and interventions within caregiving contexts, recognizing the interconnected nature of these variables. Policymakers can use the findings to inform policies related to caregiver support and health-care resource allocation. Originality/value: In India, the social norm is that children are expected to take care of their parents when they become old. Taking care of elderly parents can be challenging, even emotionally. As a result, this study will focus on how caregivers psychological well-being, quality of life and ability to tolerate distress are affected. Consequently, promoting the creation of community support groups and workplace mental health programmes which could give caregivers a forum to voice their concerns. 2024, Emerald Publishing Limited. -
Role of psychosocial factors in criminal behaviour in adults in India
Over the years, there has been a steady increase in the number of crimes committed annually in India (Snapshots, 2014). The purpose of this paper was to delve into the psychological and social factors that contribute to the development of criminal behaviour in the Indian context. For the current research, concurrent embedded mixed research design was used. Twenty individuals with a criminal record were selected using purposive sampling and twenty individuals with no criminal record were matched on the basis of age, gender and socio economic status. Eysenck Personality Questionnaire- Revised was administered on them. A semi structured interview delving into understanding the social factors that contributed to the criminal behaviour was taken for six individuals who have a criminal record. Results revealed that there was no significant difference in the personality traits of extraversion, neuroticism, psychoticism and lie score between the two groups. However, various social factors like lack of social support, less emphasis on education and awareness, financial constraints and certain individual traits were found to be prevalent. Furthermore, an interactive effect of personality and environmental factors was established. A model was also proposed for providing interventions at an individual as well as societal level. 2017 International Journal of Criminal Justice Sciences. -
Role of Silk Fiber Loading on Physico-Mechanical Properties of Epoxy Composites
Researchers have suggested the usage of lightweight materials in the automotive and other engineering components which has proven to be one of the potential ways to meet demand for fuel efficiency and eliminate greenhouse gas emissions generated by the manufacturing industries. In this study, silk fiber (Bombyx-mori) reinforced epoxy biocomposites were fabricated by hand layup method with different loadings of fiber and their physico-mechanical properties were studied following acceptable ASTM standards. The properties of the epoxy matrix were significantly enhanced with the silk fiber loading, displaying optimum properties at 50wt. % silk fiber loading. The findings also led that morphology of silk fiber and surface adhesion with the epoxy matrix affects the properties of biocomposites. Such findings provide perspective into the benefits of fiber reinforcements to the physio-mechanical performance of the epoxy resin. The mechanism of failure and consequently the adhesion between fibers and matrix were analyzed by observing the photomicrographs of the damaged coupons. 2021 Taylor & Francis. -
Role of Sm3+ and Ce4+ on mesoporous rice husk silica for selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde
Silica was prepared from rice huskagricultural wasteby soaking and pyrolysis method. Ceria and samaria were impregnated on silica by rotavapor-assisted impregnation method. The physicochemical properties of CeSm/Si catalyst were determined by BET, FT-IR, XRD, SEM, EDX, and n-butylamine titration. Catalytic activity was evaluated by oxidation of benzyl alcohol (Bzl-OH) to benzaldehyde (B-CHO) using H2O2 as an oxidant in acetonitrile medium. Different reaction parameters like time, temperature, solvent, and catalyst amount on the reaction were also studied. Among the various catalysts, 50Ce50Sm/Si showed the impressive catalytic performance with a selectivity of 91.4% to benzaldehyde. The improved catalytic performance was attributed to the well dispersion of ceriasamaria on the surface of silica. These materials can be reused effectively up to four cycles without significant loss in their selectivity. Moreover, excellent selectivity of benzaldehyde in shorter duration using modified rice husk silica catalysts makes this protocol highly attractive and practically beneficial. Role of Social Capital, Environment and Crime in Determining Life Satisfaction in India
Gross Domestic Product is a good indicator for examining the economic condition of any country, but it is an inappropriate indicator for evaluating an individual's well-being. This led to our research question: what determines people's life satisfaction or well-being in a diverse country like India? The present study examines the determinants of life satisfaction in India. To conduct this study, we analysed data from five waves of the World Values Survey spanning from 1990 to 2012, in conjunction with air and water pollution data sourced from various reports by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Specifically, the study examines the influence of Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) and Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) as indicators of air pollution and Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) as a measure of water pollution. The impact of the socio-economic variable is as expected, like the positive impact of education, health status, social class, and marital status on life satisfaction. However, one of the paper's main objectives is to examine the effect of social capital, Environmental pollution and incidence of crime on life satisfaction. It has been found that both formal and informal social capital positively affect people's life satisfaction in India. The results show that people who are trustable and sociable are more satisfied than those who are neither. Environmental pollution, such as NO2 and BOD, adversely affects people's satisfaction. The incidence of crime has a significant and negative impact on life satisfaction, particularly among individuals who report higher levels of satisfaction. Role of spiritual intelligence and occupational stress on organizational commitment: Evidence from outsourcing industry
As the world passes through uncertainty, researchers contemplate the future of work. While trying times highlight the importance of spiritual intelligence and commitment towards the organization, change brings with it large amounts of stress. Even before the pandemic, a large portion of the working population was moving towards the 'gig' style of working. The freedom of choice and the level of control that the option brought with it, made it a rather attractive option. However, for organizations the question remains on how to instil the same level of commitment in an employee who is not directly linked to the organization. In an attempt to understand the same, the current study looks at the drivers of organizational commitment for employees of the outsourcing industry. Similar to gig employees, these employees remain outside the organization they currently work for. Additionally, they are expected to balance the expectations of the parent and the host organization. The findings of the study suggest that the individual's spiritual intelligence levels and the level of perceived stress in the role would be significant in determining their levels of commitment. These findings are of significance for organizations dealing with outsourced employees and especially for those attempting to create alternate employment opportunities within their organization. 2019 by Advance Scientific Research. Role of supramolecular interactions in crystal packing of Strandberg-type cluster-based hybrid solids
Abstract: Two new Strandberg-type cluster-based phosphomolybdates {H-2a3mp}5[{PO3(OH)}{PO4}Mo5O15], 1 and {H-2a4mp}5[{PO3(OH)}{PO4}Mo5O15]6H2O, 2 have been crystallized via solvent evaporation technique using 2-amino-3-methylpyridine (2a3mp) and 2-amino-4-methylpyridine (2a4mp) respectively. The solids were characterized using single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy and cyclic voltammetry. The solid 1 crystallized in monoclinic system with space group P21/c, a = 8.394(1), b = 27.398(6), c = 21.521(4) ? = 97.68(3), Z = 4. The solid 2 crystallized in triclinic system with space group P-1, a = 11.728(1), b = 14.234(1), c = 19.589(1) ? = 68.906(3), ? = 89.454(3), ? = 66.559(3), Z = 2. The solids 1 and 2 formed a supramolecular framework stabilized by hydrogen bonding interaction between cluster anions and organic moieties. CH? interactions between the organic moieties reinforced the crystal packing in 1 and 2. While crystal packing effects resulted in the formation of solvent-accessible voids in 1; aggregation of lattice water molecules in 2 facilitated the formation of pentameric water cluster. In addition, electrochemical behavior of 1 and 2 has also been investigated. Graphic abstract: Two new Strandberg-type cluster based phosphomolybdates, 1 and 2 have been crystallized via solvent evaporation technique using 2-amino-3-methylpyridine and 2-amino-4-methylpyridine. Role of Symptomatic Management in Understanding Effects of Early Integration of Palliative Care among Nonmetastatic Lung Cancer Patients on Psychological Well-Being
Aim. The impact of early referral to palliative care on quality of life for patients with lung cancer has already been discussed. However, the benefits of early integration of palliative care service (EIPCS) combined with standard oncology care for nonmetastatic lung cancer patients remain unclear. Hence, we designed a study to assess the impact of EIPCS among nonmetastatic cancer patients in India. Methods. In this randomized controlled trial study, we divided the data from 115 patients with diagnosed nonmetastatic lung cancer between age group of >18 years to ?65 years. Following clinicopathological and radiology diagnosis, patients were referred to pain and palliative medicine department. Patients were randomly assigned by palliative physicians into two groups: Group A (N = 64), those who were receiving standard oncology care (chemotherapy or radiation or both) along with EIPCS, and Group B (N = 51), receiving standard oncology care. Patients were followed up every 3 weeks up to 3 months. Primary outcomes, symptoms' burden, and psychological well-being were measured by validated tools. To define the impact of EIPCS, appropriate statistics were calculated as the mean standard deviation of the score of validated tools. Statistical significance was defined at p<0.005. Results. From the beginning, we had taken 115 patients, and on 42 days' follow-up, the number of dropout patients for Group A was 3 (due to unable to contact), and for Group B, 9 (due to physical condition). This was followed by a reassessment after 126 days where dropout patients for Group A was 4 (due to unable to contact), and for Group B, 7 (due to physical condition). Following statistical report compliance at 126 days by WEMWBS was 21.16 3.65 in Group A versus 16.1 1.93 versus in Group B and by ESAS 51.84 0.01 in Group A versus 97.64 2.18 in Group B. Conclusion. The findings of this study showed that patients with nonmetastatic lung cancer who received standard oncology care combined with EIPCS had increased the psychological well-being and reduced symptoms burden. 2024 Arunima Datta et al. -

Role of Triguna Personality Towards Emotional Expression in Relation to Emotional Regulation
With the changing times, people are more aware of their emotions regarding how to express and regulate them. The present generation is more active and expressive than the previous generation as they understand the significance of emotions in ones life. The body of literature claims that a person with better emotional understanding and expression is expected to have meaningful emotional regulation irrespective of the generation they represent. Traditional Indian Philosophy defines three essential characteristics, Sattva (purity, harmony), Rajas (activity, passion), and Tamas (resistance, darkness), that influence human behavior and experience. The degree to which one of the gunas predominates in an individual, to that extent, we characterize that person with that guna. The complicated interactions between Trigunas personality, emotional expression, and emotional regulation are examined. Considering the available facts, the present research focuses on exploring the association between emotional expression and emotion regulation strategies and the effect of the triguna personality in it, across two generations within the family. To accomplish this, a cross-sectional research design will be used to explore the generational difference, followed by a correlational research design to study the associations among variables for participants within each group. Participants would include the parents (mothers, 45 to 50 years) and their children (siblings, 18 to 24 years). The data was collected from 30 families. 2024 selection and editorial matter, Dr. Sundeep Katevarapu, Dr. Anand Pratap Singh, Dr. Priyanka Tiwari, Ms. Akriti Varshney, Ms. Priya Lanka, Ms. Aankur Pradhan, Dr. Neeraj Panwar, Dr. Kumud Sapru Wangnue; individual chapters, the contributors. -

Role of women in food and agricultural development: Breaking barriers for sustainable growth
The role of women in food and agricultural development in India is vital as it has an essential impact on the country's agricultural development. Despite all the contributions, they often face major obstacles, such as limited access to resources such as land, credit, innovation, and technology, and addressing these barriers is important. In this chapter, the authors have examined areas and levels of farm women's participation, such as the crops they grow, post- harvest activities, the workload they carry, and, despite all the struggles, how the women are underestimated. Their contribution is not limited to crop cultivation but also includes dairy, poultry, fishing, aquaculture, and forestry such as the wood processing sector. Due to men moving towards urban areas for better jobs and quality of life, women in rural areas are pressured to work in the fields; due to this, agriculture is feminized, and women shoulder a heavier workload than men. The underrepresentation of women is also seen in the employment rate and the pay they receive during seasonal, non- seasonal, and part- time employment. 2024, IGI Global. All rights reserved. -

Root cause analysis of COVID-19 cases by enhanced text mining process
The main focus of this research is to find the reasons behind the fresh cases of COVID-19 from the publics perception for data specific to India. The analysis is done using machine learning approaches and validating the inferences with medical professionals. The data processing and analysis is accomplished in three steps. First, the dimensionality of the vector space model (VSM) is reduced with improvised feature engineering (FE) process by using a weighted term frequency-inverse document frequency (TF-IDF) and forward scan trigrams (FST) followed by removal of weak features using feature hashing technique. In the second step, an enhanced K-means clustering algorithm is used for grouping, based on the public posts from Twitter. In the last step, latent dirichlet allocation (LDA) is applied for discovering the trigram topics relevant to the reasons behind the increase of fresh COVID-19 cases. The enhanced K-means clustering improved Dunn index value by 18.11% when compared with the traditional K-means method. By incorporating improvised two-step FE process, LDA model improved by 14% in terms of coherence score and by 19% and 15% when compared with latent semantic analysis (LSA) and hierarchical dirichlet process (HDP) respectively thereby resulting in 14 root causes for spike in the disease. 2022 Institute of Advanced Engineering and Science.
