Tailoring natural rubber properties through CaO nanoparticle integration and curing technique
The present study investigates the development of natural rubber nanocomposites reinforced with calcium oxide nanoparticles and cured using pentane-1,5-diylidenediamine, a green crosslinker derived from glutaraldehyde and ammonia. calcium oxide nanoparticles (0.020.16wt%) were incorporated via latex blending, and composites were evaluated in both uncured and pentane-1,5-diylidenediamine -cured forms. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed that the calcium oxide nanoparticles were well dispersed and actively involved in crosslinking with the rubber matrix. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the cured composites had a more uniform surface and better distribution of nanoparticles. Mechanical testing revealed a remarkable tenfold increase in tensile strength from 0.217MPa to 8.478MPa and a significant improvement in elongation at break, rising from 666 to 1317% in the pentane-1,5-diylidenediamine -cured samples. The best mechanical performance was achieved at 0.10wt% calcium oxide. Dielectric measurements further highlighted an increase in permittivity and AC conductivity, especially in the cured composites, attributed to interfacial polarization and the formation of nanoparticle networks. Altogether, these results underline the synergistic benefits of calcium oxide nanoparticles and pentane-1,5-diylidenediamine curing in enhancing the structural, mechanical, and dielectric properties of natural rubber, making it a strong candidate for advanced elastomeric and dielectric applications. Tailoring of low grade coal to fluorescent nanocarbon structures and their potential as a glucose sensor
Lignite is an abundantly utilized feedstock for the facile synthesis of fluorescent carbon dots and carbon nanomaterials. Its value is appreciated as an energy source for combustion for long time. Herein we report a novel top-down strategy to synthesis lignite based fluorescent nano carbon structures by combined acidic oxidation and chemical reflux. The nanocarbon crystallites in lignite are converted to oxygenated nano carbon dots and graphene sheets. They exhibited stable fluorescence property in the visible region depending on their size, functionalities and defects which were highly stable in all the pH conditions. These nanocarbon structures are an effective probe for fluorescent sensing of label-free and selective detection of glucose ions with detection limit as low as 0.125 mM, promising real-world sensor applications. These findings establish a scalable method for the production of fluorescent carbon based glucose sensor from lignite. 2018, The Author(s). -

Tamarindusindica Mediated Combustion Synthesis of BiOCl: Photocatalytic Degradation of Dyes and Synthesis of ?-Enaminones
Environmental pollution due to dyes has been increasing continuously due to the large number of textile industries, which affects living systems. Photocatalytic degradation (PCD) is one of the most efficient methods to expel organic dyes in wastewater. In this respect, synthesizing photocatalytic nanoparticles to degrade organic dyes by a simple and cost-effective method is the real challenge. In this article, a carcinogenic dye, methylene blue, is considered for our study as it releases highly toxic species into the ecosystem and causes severe health problems such as cancer, skin and kidney problems, etc. Bismuth oxychloride has been synthesized by simple, low cost and rapid combustion method using low cost, easily available Tamarindusindica as a fuel at 500 C for ~10 min. The obtained BiOCl has been characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), UV-Vis spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy and surface area by BrunauerEmmettTeller (BET). The XRD pattern shows a tetragonal phase and the FT-IR spectrum shows the presence of Bi-Cl at 1109 cm?1. SEM shows a flake-like morphology and HR-TEM displays d-spacing values of 0.13 nm. Photoluminescence studies show a green emission peak at 530 nm. Synthesis of ?-enaminones was also examined using analogues of aniline and dimedone in presence of BiOCl as a photocatalyst. 2021, The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society. -

Taming the HiPPO (Highest Paid Person's Opinion) with agile metrics and value management
If the organisation's ecosystem has an excess of HiPPOs, data, measured analytics, and other realtime information that minimises uncertainty can help them mitigate the consequences. They disregard the wisdom of the crowd, overlook the front-line staff's abilities, and risk disengaging the workforce. This research advocates agile metrics and value management to tame the HiPPO. The authors posit to reign in opinions with metrics. The corporate enlightenment brought about a revolutionary idea over three centuries ago: to elevate science and knowledge above magical thought and mysticism. When the authors convert this into modern terms, they are referring to data-driven management, analytics, and hypothesis validation. In fact, the idea of applying science in the form of true evidence, confirmed data, etc. to production processes underlies much of the industrial revolution. 2023, IGI Global. All rights reserved. -

Targeting Metabolic Reprogramming: A New Frontier in Cancer Therapy
Cancer cells undergo profound metabolic reprogramming to meet the high demands of unchecked proliferation within the nutrient-limited tumor microenvironment (TME). While fundamental metabolic pathways are conserved, cancer cells exhibit distinct metabolic fluxes and substrate preferences, meticulously dictated by genetic, epigenetic, and microenvironmental cues that reshape enzyme and transporter profiles. This metabolic rewiring sculpts the TME, fostering both competition and cooperation, often favoring tumor-promoting stromal components (cancer-associated fibroblasts, M2 tumor-associated macrophages), and hinders antitumor immunity. Targeting aberrant cancer metabolism and originating interactions in TME presents a promising therapeutic avenue. However, the inherent metabolic heterogeneity across malignancies necessitates personalized combination therapies and continued research to efficiently target this key cancer hallmark. 2025 The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. -
Task-based Autoethnographic Pedagogical Approach: a phenomenological inquiry into online learning of Critical Food Studies courses
The disengaging experiences reported in the online mode of learning have resulted in considerable deliberations highlighting the need for pedagogical innovations. Therefore, it is crucial to rethink these ideas and develop pedagogical approaches that accommodate a dynamic understanding of learning spaces and meet the demands of the teachinglearning environment of the contemporary period. This study discusses the various steps through which the task-based autoethnographic pedagogical approach (TAPA) was implemented in an undergraduate-level Critical Food Studies course and proposes it as an effective approach to administering certain courses by enabling active learning in the online mode. The study captures learners perceptions of meaningful online learning experiences by using an interpretative phenomenological approach, mapping the aspects that contribute to a sense of rekindled interest and involvement in the course. Some of the dominant patterns that emerge from this phenomenological study are (1) appreciation towards praxis-based online learning, (2) recognition of lived space as a ripe site for inquiry and learning, (3) a heightened sense of engagement with lived contexts, and identity discourses, (4) learners negotiations with TAPA, and (5) learner as an active agent and curator of knowledge. Thus, while situating TAPA as an effective pedagogical approach for online learning and Critical Food Studies curriculum, it is also posited as an approach that initiates negotiation with the epistemic hierarchies within academia.
