Climate Risks in an Unequal Society: The Question of Climate Justice in India
Over the past few decades, India has witnessed the brunt of climate change impacts in multiple dimensions. Notably, recent years' experiences prove that there has been a substantial increase in the intensity, frequency, and duration of climate-related risks and extreme events, resulting in an acceleration of the nexus between climate change and inequities. Despite the growing advancements of socioeconomic research on current and future climate change risks in India, the explorations through the lens of legal perspectives are still limited and have not met the demands. This chapter argues for rethinking legal perspectives of climate justice in India by drawing insights from two recent climate extreme events. To begin with, this chapter briefly reviews the historical background of the global actions to combat climate inequities and injustices and identifies the ways in which climate injustices perpetuate. For this, it adopts three main principles of climate justice, consisting of equity, a rights-based approach, and sustainability. Following this, it discusses India's climate policy and the existing institutional framework and actions to respond to climate change at the national and state levels. Then, by focusing on the climate change impacts on India, it introduces two recent climate-related risk events in India, and it discusses the unequal structuration of climate risks and the resulting more vulnerable and precarious situation of the marginal sections of the society that already faces multiple social injustices of Indian society. At the end of the cases, it briefly offers a critique of the climate change action plans of the respective states. This chapter concludes by outlining a few strategies to create a more sustainable and equitable approach toward climate governance and justice by strengthening the legal and institutional dispensations of the climate regime in India. An Introduction to Business Intelligence
The quality of managerial decisions impacts the performance of any business, and this decision mainly depends on the reliability, inclusiveness, correctness, and trustworthiness of the data used for this purpose. Nowadays, business intelligence (BI) has become a key buzzword. BI supports better business decision-making by transforming data into actionable insights. The digitalization or digitization of business is accommodating and embracing the new BI to endure and stand for consistency and competitiveness for business development toward technological or digital transformation. In this digital or computer era, only those businesses will be profitable and successful that are well furnished to digitally (or binary) shift their practices in the technological or information age. In the new technological age, high powered by data analytics capabilities, meaningful and systematic data assimilation has become a new challenge for an organization to transfer data into BI. BI is a technology-driven process for analyzing data into information; information into knowledge; and knowledge into plans that manage and regulate the organization. BI presents actionable information to help corporate executives; business managers, and other end-users and makes more informed business decisions. BI software systems provide historical, current, and predictive views of business operations. Dashboards; Forecasting; Graphical Reporting; Graphical Online Analytical Processing (OLAP); and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are the modules of BI. BI helps in organizing teams, keeping them mindful and aware of KPIs. The awareness of KPIs through dashboards and reports keeps teams aligned and more focused on their goals. The optimal aim of BI is to enable a business to make informed decisions. BI helps business managers or leaders utilize data in a way that is coherent and dynamic. The key elements of BI involved are Advanced Analytics or Corporate Performance Management; BI; Data Sources; Data Warehousing and OLAP. With the latest technology and innovations, there are countless BI applications available for varied types of data analysis. BI software or technologies can deal with multiple structured and unstructured data to identify, develop, and create new strategies business opportunities. Its purpose is to enable clear and accessible interpretation of the huge data, to identify new opportunities and execute effective strategies. Strategic BI (SBI) is always associated with reporting from an analytical data source or data warehouse. Essentially, SBI improves the business process by analyzing a predetermined set of data pertinent to that process and provides the historical background of that data. SBI assembles on four crucial and necessary criteria or frameworks, namely collection and storage of data; Optimization of data for analysis; Identification of important business drivers through past data records; and seeking answers to key business questions. Hence, BI provides procedures and technologies, and tools for current business leaders to alter and modify dynamically and effectively lead their companies with correct data decisions. This research paper is qualitative and based on secondary data. This chapter aims to provide insights into BI and highlights the recent innovations and future of BI. 2023 selection and editorial matter, Deepmala Singh, Anurag Singh, Amizan Omar & S.B Goyal. -
In Vitro Production of Bioactive Compounds from Plant Cell Culture
Secondary metabolites (SMs) are bioactive compounds widely used in various industries as pharmaceutical agents and food additives and serve as precursor substances for the synthesis of commercially important products. These natural bioactive metabolites are quickly replacing chemicals as efficient coloring, flavoring, texturizing, and preservative agents. Productions of these SMs are hampered due to physiological and technological parameters. Although SMs do not have any significant role in the growth and development of the organisms where they are found, they have commercial importance. Humankind has harnessed its application in every walk of their life. In the medical field, SMs are used as antibiotics, antifungal, antiviral, metabolic inhibitors, anticancer agents, and many more. The biological and pharmacological benefits of medicinal plants are attributed to SM produced by subsidiary pathways that are highly specific to target molecules. Most pharmaceuticals are either directly or indirectly derived from plant sources. Production of SMs from field plants suffers from various limitations like seasonal production, choosing specific plant organs for specific metabolites, low yield, cost of purification, and seasonal variations. Biotechnological approaches such as plant cell, tissue, and organ cultures are the best alternative methods for commercial production. The current chapter focuses on establishment of plant cell culture system for the production of SMs, strategies to improve biomass yield and metabolite content, and biosynthetic pathways. The chapter also emphasizes elicitation strategies, application of CRISPR Cas9 in metabolite synthesis, large-scale production, and commercial aspects of SMs. The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2022. -
Hereditary factor-based multi-featured algorithm for early diabetes detection using machine learning
Today's advent in the medical industry have given numerous chances to improve the quality of detection and reporting the diseases at the early stages for a better diagnosis. Modern day datasets generate fruitful information for timely and periodic monitoring of patients' health conditions. Such information is hidden to a naked eye or hidden in multiple track records of highly affected population. Diabetes mellitus is one such disease which is predominant among a global population which ultimately leads to blindness and death in some cases. The model proposed in this system attempts to design and deliver an intelligent solution for predicting diabetes in the early stages and address the problem of late detection and diagnosis. Intensive research is carried out in many tropical countries for automating this process through a machine learning model. The accuracy of machine learning algorithms is more than satisfactory in the detection of Type 2 diabetes from the dataset of PIMA Indians Diabetes Dataset. An additional feature of hereditary factor is implemented to the existing multiple objective fuzzy classifiers. The proposed model has improved the accuracy to 83% in the training and tested datasets when compared to NGSA model of prediction. 2022 Scrivener Publishing LLC. -

Sustainability and Social Responsibility in Marketing
Social trading companies must adhere to the concept of social responsibility by engaging in activities that provide benefits to society. Social responsibility in marketing is through providing products and services that help the community environmentally, socially, and economically. Several literatures have discussed the role of social responsibility in customer intentions toward social trading channels. Discussing and describing the role of social responsibility in marketing is an important issue that needs to be investigated. This chapter describes the role of social responsibility in marketing activities. Promotions that raise awareness of societal issues and problems, recyclable packaging, and direct portions of profits toward charitable efforts are critical factors that will be described in this chapter as well. The majority of business companies, however, are still unable to fulfill the finest CSR principles in their marketing activities. Therefore, the focus of this chapter is on the requirements for CSR as well as the deficiencies in corporate organizations marketing operations. Exploring social networking data sets
A network is a collection of objects/devices that are linked to one another through wired and wireless communication. Networks are everywhere, and they are formed to share resources among users. Nodes and edges form a network structure. Nodes describe the objects, whereas edges represent the connections between them. Network analysis is advantageous in a wide variety of live application activities. It enables us to get a thorough knowledge of the structure of a connection in social networks, the structure or process of development in environmental events, and even the study of organisms' biological systems. Additionally, network analysis allows the estimation of complex network patterns, and the network structure may be examined to disclose the network's basic features. If anyone examines a social connection among Facebook users, for example, the nodes indicate the target people and the edges reflect the connections between users, such as friendships or group memberships. The objective of this chapter is to describe and visualize social network analysis (SNA) using Python and NetworkX, a Python framework for analyzing the structure, dynamics, and functions of complex networks. 2022 Scrivener Publishing LLC. Female masculinities and women of third nature: Analyzing the gender and sexual politics of identity and visibility of alternative masculinities through indian mythologies and literary narratives
Alternative sexualities have been a part of the Indian past since time immemorial, and mention of them is often visible in Sanskrit mythological texts. As much as the presence of hijras and other gendered cultural identities is in Indian and Western public discourses, there is a narrow space occupied by women of the third kind with female masculinities, with scant attention leading to the higher invisibility of women of the third kind. Female masculinity is often considered a "rejected shred, " while male masculinity is seen as real and heroic. This chapter focuses on "masculinity without men" to explore alternative masculinities-the concept popularized by Judith Halberstam (Judith Halberstam, Female Masculinity. Zubaan Books, New Delhi, 1998). We delve into the politics of alternative modes of enactment and production where male masculinity is embedded. This chapter centers on female masculinity and alternative forms of masculinities performed, enacted, and embodied by female individuals as reflected in the Indian past and mythology. This chapter further delves into identifying histories and representations of female masculinities in Indian literature to bring female masculinities and women of the third kind into academic discourse.
