Studies on Parametric Optimization of HVOF-Sprayed Cr2O3 Coatings on Al6061 Alloy
High-velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) is a widely used thermal spray technique to obtain high density, high bond strength, and improved hardness coatings. In the present work, optimization of HVOF process parameters was carried out using the Taguchi method to minimize porosity and improve microhardness, and bond strength of Cr2O3 coatings. Based on the signal-to-noise ratio and analysis of variance, the significance of each process parameter and optimum parameter combination is obtained. Based on the signal-to-noise ratio, the most significant process parameter affecting porosity and microhardness was standoff distance, while for bond strength, it was powder feed rate. An optimal combination of process parameters for porosity, microhardness, and bond strength was obtained from S/N ratio analysis. For porosity, optimal parameters were standoff distance of 100rpm, powder feed rate of 30g/min, and gun speed of 250mm/s. The optimal process parameters for microhardness were standoff distance of 300rpm, powder feed rate of 50g/min, and gun speed of 200mm/s. Finally, for bond strength, the optimal process parameters were standoff distance of 300rpm, powder feed rate of 50g/min, and gun speed of 250mm/s. Statistical results for porosity, microhardness, and bond strength showed that the difference between the predicted R2 and adjusted R2 values were relatively minimal and close to the one highlighting the fitness of the regression model employed for analysis. Fracture analysis after bond strength test showed combined adhesion/cohesion type failure for the Cr2O3 coatings. 2021, The Indian Institute of Metals - IIM. -

HumanComputer Interaction Technique for Irrigation and Sun Tracking Solar Panel Model
Humancomputer interaction (HCI) is an acquainted field of study concentrating on the design of computer innovation and, specifically, the interaction between computers and humans. While at first about computers, HCI has since extended to cover practically all types of data innovation design. Agriculture uses most of the natural resources, and the use of these natural resources will increase. In irrigation system, depending upon the moisture of the soil, water is provided to the plant. Two things are very important, first to get information about the humidity and temperature of the soil and second to measure the soil moisture. The Bluetooth module is added in the system so the water can be controlled through the mobile device. A solar tracking system is used to track the solar rays and convert them into electricity for pumping of water for irrigation purposes. There is a motor and two solenoid valves which control the water supply, according to the information obtained from the sensors which are placed. In a solar tracking system, LDRs are used as the main light sensors. The sensors are used to sense the soil moisture, temperature, and humidity, and if the moisture content is very low, then the motor is automatically switched on and will be turned off after getting the required water to the soil. For this, there is a GSM that is used to send the notification to the farmers. This chapter deals with the process of implementing an IoT-based model for smart irrigation and sun tracking solar panel for electricity to reduce human efforts. 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG. -
Job Search Methods in the Software Industry in Bangalore: Does Social Capital Matter?
Heterogeneity of workers and jobs results in imperfections such as information asymmetry in the labour market. Acquisition and evaluation of information by buyers and sellers to arrive at a decision is, therefore, both difficult and costly. Referrals in the labour market act as a conduit through which necessary information flows between prospective employers and job seekers, thereby reducing problems associated with information asymmetry. The information technology (IT) industry hires about a quarter of their workforce through referrals. We look at realised job search outcomes of IT workers some of whom have found jobs through informal methods of search deploying their social networks while others through formalised channels of recruitment. We examine social capital, human capital and firm-specific differences among those who found jobs through formal vis-a-vis informal methods of search. The empirical analysis is primarily descriptive and is based on a survey conducted among software workers in the IT industry in Bangalore. The results suggest that there are no significant differences in the human capital characteristics of workers between the two methods of job finding. However, certain social capital and firm-specific characteristics significantly differ among the methods of job finding. 2019, Indian Society of Labour Economics. -
Well-being of North Eastern Migrant Workers in Bangalore
This paper explores the quality of life and subjective well-being of north-east migrant workers engaged in various formal and informal jobs in Bangalore. The composite well-being index reveals moderate well-being for the majority of workers. The disaggregated analysis, however, shows poor material conditions of life. Using the Day Reconstruction Method, we also find positive emotions associated with activities such as socialising but negative emotions for work and commuting. With respect to interacting partners, the negative emotions were highest while dealing with clients and customers. We also found positive correlations between life satisfaction and quality of life indicators, most strongly, with job quality. Lower quality of jobs, reported by women in comparison to men, suggests that organisations should aim to create more equal and enabling work spaces for all genders. 2020 Institute for Human Development. -
Gender differences in social capital and job search methods in the information technology industry in bangalore
The existence of transaction costs in recruitments and information asymmetry in the labour markets could lead to a preference for informal methods of job search for potential employees and referral-based recruitments for employers. This preference is explicit in the Information Technology (IT) industry, which promotes an incentive-based referral recruitment system. However, such a system raises questions as to whether a level playing field is available for men and women alike to compete for available jobs in the industry. The paper aims at shedding light on the differences in social capital characteristics of men and women, in their job search choices between formal and informal methods, and the implications of the same in the labour market through a gendered perspective. Additionally, the paper explores the association between the strength of ties in informal networks, on one hand, and income and job satisfaction in jobs found through these networks, on the other. The study finds that there are considerable differences in the social capital characteristics of male and female IT employees. The relationship between the strength of ties in informal contacts used to find the current job and job satisfaction are consistent with the existing theoretical insights. However, there is no statistically significant relationship between the strength of ties and income. 2017, Springer India. All rights reserved. -
Covid-19 ct lung image segmentation using adaptive donkey and smuggler optimization algorithm
COVID'19 has caused the entire universe to be in existential health crisis by spreading globally in the year 2020. The lungs infection is detected in Computed Tomography (CT) images which provide the best way to increase the existing healthcare schemes in preventing the deadly virus. Nevertheless, separating the infected areas in CT images faces various issues such as lowintensity difference among normal and infectious tissue and high changes in the characteristics of the infection. To resolve these issues, a newinf-Net (Lung Infection Segmentation Deep Network) is designed for detecting the affected areas from the CT images automatically. For the worst segmentation results, the Edge-Attention Representation (EAR) is optimized using Adaptive Donkey and Smuggler Optimization (ADSO). The edges which are identified by the ADSO approach is utilized for calculating dissimilarities. An IFCM (Intuitionistic Fuzzy C-Means) clustering approach is applied for computing the similarity of the EA component among the generated edge maps and Ground-Truth (GT) edge maps. Also, a Semi-Supervised Segmentation (SSS) structure is designed using the Randomly Selected Propagation (RP) technique and Inf-Net, which needs only less number of images and unlabelled data. Semi-Supervised Multi-Class Segmentation (SSMCS) is designed using a Bi-LSTM (Bi-Directional Long-Short-Term-memory), acquires all the advantages of the disease segmentation done using Semi Inf-Net and enhances the execution of multi-class disease labelling. The newly designed SSMCS approach is compared with existing U-Net++, MCS, and Semi-Inf-Net. factors such as MAE (Mean Absolute Error), Structure measure, Specificity (Spec), Dice Similarity coefficient, Sensitivity (Sen), and Enhance-Alignment Measure are considered for evaluation purpose. 2022 Tech Science Press. Secured and flexible user authentication protocol for wireless sensor network
Purpose: In wireless sensor network (WSN), user authentication plays as a vital role in which data sensing, as well as sharing, will be spoiled by hackers. To enhance user security, user authentication must be focused. Design/methodology/approach: In previous works, for secured authentication, Enhanced User Authentication Protocol (EUAP) is presented. On the other hand, the user free password generation is permitted in the previous technique. Findings: Here, password leakage may cause a malevolent user's contribution to the WSN environment. By presenting the Flexible and Secured User Authentication Protocol (FSUAP), this is solved in the presented technique in which secured as well as reliable sharing of data contents via unsecured wireless sensor devices was accomplished. Originality/value: The foremost objective of the present technique is to device the protocol that would verify the users beforehand letting them access the sensor devices situated in various sites. The use of a sensor device could be reduced in a significant way. Three-factor authentication protocols are presented in place of two-factor authentication protocol in the presented technique that could deal with and safeguard the environment from a brute force attack in an effective manner. 2020, Emerald Publishing Limited. -
Corpus based sentimenal movie review analysis using auto encoder convolutional neural network
In natural language processing, most prominent branch is sentiment analysis. Peoples emotions and attitudes are analyzed using this sentiment analysis towards service, some product, etc. In prediction of the future scope of a product, some benefits are given by sentiment analysis. However, manual analysis of such a huge amount of documents is a highly tedious task, especially with limited time. Hence, for solving this problem, various attempts are made in literature and proposed different sentiment analysis methods. However, in generation of lexicon, popular NLP tools has some drawbacks. The accuracy of lexicons based on humans is less and they are limited too. On the other hand, lexicons based on dictionary are highly general and they are domain specific. So, a technique called Corpus Integrated Autoencoder Convolutional Neural Network based Sentiment Analysis (CI-AECNN) is proposed in this work for solving this issue. The sentiment lexicon generation based on corpus is performed in this work. Candidates sentiment orientation are computed using this and seed lexicon are added with recognized sentiment words and from seed lexicon, words with incorrect sentiment are removed. The long short-term memory (LSTM) is used for performing Word Sense Disambiguation. Conditional random fields are used for extracting features. At last, auto-encoder, convolutional neural network is used for performing classification. In MATLAB simulation environment, conducted this research works overall analysis and it indicates that better results are produced by proposed technique when compared with available techniques. 2021 Taru Publications. -
Energy efficient data collection in sparse sensor networks using multiple Mobile Data Patrons
Wireless sensor networks consist of sensor nodes that can sense the environment and forward the sensed data to the destination. It takes multiple hops for the data to get transmitted from the source to the destination node. Mobile Data Patron is a high energy mobile data collector that collects data from the sensors within sparse networks. In sparse networks, the sensors detect the physical phenomenon, and the MDP is used to collect data generated by the sensors. In existing models, a single MDP is used to collect data from sensors within sparse networks. It requires high amounts of energy for long-range data transmission to the base station. The proposed work uses multiple MDPs to solve the energy depletion problem. The research also focuses on improving the data transfer rate so that the MDPs lose minimal amounts of energy. 2020 -
Canopy removal on satellite images using classification and contrast enhancement
The increasing the usage of satellite remote sensing for a civilian purpose has proved to be the most cost-effective mapping environmental changes with regard to natural resources, particularly in developing countries. Forests as one part of the wildlife of human societies in economic growth and permanency of natural resources in the countries of the world. But because of various details such as the growth of population, progressively varying forest to the other unfitting applications such as agriculture, providing energy and fuel, millions of hectares from the natural means are destroyed every year, and the remainder of the surface changes quantitatively and qualitatively. For better management of the forests, the evolution of forest area and rate of forest concentration should be examined. It is achievable that, there isnt any change in the field of the forest during the time, but the density of forest canopy is changed. Estimation of forest canopy cover has recently become an essential part of the forest. Therefore, the research study is to develop Forest Canopy Remover, which is used to get an accurate result of Forest and deforested area from the satellite earth images. It is used to calculate forest density using vegetation. Then, the changes in area and forest density during a particular period can be distinguished. 2020 IJSTR. -

Streamlined electrochemical harvesting of cobalt and nickel from soft cemented carbide scrap for superior supercapacitors
We propose a complete circular economy and sustainability model from soft cemented carbide scrap to supercapacitor application. An enhanced recovery of cobalt and nickel was observed when deep eutectic solvent was used. A comparative in-situ electrochemical deposition of the recovered metals was done on stainless steel (SS), SS/activated carbon (AC), and SS/AC/polyaniline (PANI). The optimization of electrochemical extraction was carried out by varying voltage, time, and temperature. The surface area and conductive polymer's electronic distribution contributed to different surface morphological deposition of specific metals on them. Unique fluffy particle deposition was observed on the surface as fine grain particles with uniform particle size within 1 m. The fabricated supercapacitors showed the pseudocapacitance behaviour. The presence of metal oxide nanocomposite deposition as the active material is particularly pronounced in the SS/AC/PANI device due to the inclusion of PANI as an active material and its substantial contribution to pseudocapacitance. The higher charge-discharge time of SS/AC/PANI at the same current densities compared to SS/AC may be due to the above-mentioned additional contribution of PANI's quickly reversible redox behavior. Hence, the overall electrochemical extraction from scrap to supercapacitor will undoubtedly lead to achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs) 2024 -

Effective atomic number and electron density of some biologically important lipids for electron, proton, alpha particle and photon interactions
X-ray, ?-ray and charged particle interaction parameters of biomolecules are useful in medical diagnosis and radiation therapy as exposure to radiations can cause energy of photons and charged particles to be deposited in body through various interaction processes. With this in view, the effective atomic number (Zeff) and electron density (Neff) of some biologically important lipids for X-ray, ?-ray and charged particle interactions were studied in the energy range 10 keV500 MeV using logarithmic interpolation method. A non-monotonic variation in Zeff values was observed for protons and alpha particles in low and intermediate energy regions respectively whereas a sudden increase in Zeff was observed for electron interaction in higher energy region. Zeff values were maximum in higher energy region for total electron interactions whereas maximum values of Zeff for total alpha particle interactions were at relatively lower energies. Highest Zeff values were found at lower energy region of photoelectric absorption dominance for photon interactions. Variation in Neff seems to be similar to variation in Zeff as they are inter-related. 2020 Elsevier Ltd -
Blocking intrusion logic using optimized multi-head convolution in wireless sensor network
Wireless sensor nodes (WSN) combine sensing and communication capabilities in the smallest sensor network component. Sensor nodes have basic networking capabilities, such as wireless connection with other nodes, data storage, and a microcontroller to do basic processing. The intrusion detection problem is well analyzed and there exist numerous techniques to solve this issue but suffer will poor intrusion detection accuracy and a higher false alarm ratio. To overcome this challenge, a novel Intrusion Detection via Salp Swarm Optimization based Deep Learning Algorithm (ID-SODA) has been proposed which classifies intrusion node and non-intrusion node. The proposed ID-SODA technique uses the k-means clustering algorithm to perform clustering. The Salp Swarm Optimization (SSO) technique takes into residual energy, distance, and cost while choosing the cluster head selection (CHS). The CHS is given the input to a multi-head convolutional neural network (MHCNN), which will classify into intrusion node and non-intrusion node. The performance analysis of the suggested ID-SODA is evaluated based on the parameters like accuracy, precision, F1 score, detection rate, recall, false alarm rate, and false negative rate. The suggested ID-SODA achieves an accuracy range of 98.95%. The result shows that the suggested ID-SODA improves the overall accuracy better than 6.56%, 2.94%, and 2.95% in SMOTE, SLGBM, and GWOSVM-IDS respectively. 2023 - IOS Press. All rights reserved. -

Enhanced visible light induced dye degradation and antibacterial activities of ZnO/NiO nanocomposite synthesized using Clitoria ternatea flower extract
In this study, ZnO/NiO Nanocomposites (NCs) were prepared using a rapid, simple and eco-friendly green synthesis method using medicinal flower extract of Clitoria ternatea and their visible light assisted dye degradation and antibacterial properties were investigated. The synthesised ZnO/NiO NCs were characterised by ultravioletvisible (UVVis) spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), High resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Selected area electron diffraction (SAED) studies. XRD results revealed that ZnO/NiO NCs exhibit hexagonal wurtzite and cubic crystal structure with an average crystallite size of 18 nm. HRTEM images revealed roughly spherical and hexagonal morphology with an average particle size of 23 nm. The antibacterial activity of ZnO/NiO NCs examined against Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) bacteria using well diffusion method indicated significant antibacterial activity. The photocatalytic activity of the ZnO/NiO NCs showed 83.4 % and 84.4 % of dye degradation efficiency, respectively against Bromophenol Blue (BPB) and Crystal Violet (CV) dye for 150 min under sun light irradiation. The result shows that the ZnO/NiO NCs investigated in this study exhibited a strong potential agent and was successful in the removal of dye from wastewater. 2022 Elsevier B.V.
