Confrontations faced by women in higher education institutions and strategies to overcome the anomalies in the mid-career
Women do succeed in higher positions in the higher education system but only to a certain point, and many women are really motivated by the traditional academic values such as passion to the discipline, pursuit of knowledge, good working environment, and flexibility. Women in higher education .spend the majority of their life at the mid-career stage. Some of them feel wedged, undervalued, and find no motivation to go forward in their mid-career. Hence, the mid-career stage is very much important with women academicians, and they feel there is little support or mentoring. Hence, the mid-career period is increasingly difficult to navigate. Women encounter enormous obstacles in their academic career, including unequal task distribution and balancing caring responsibilities to name a few. Reshaping the Education Sector of Manipur Through Blockchain
The use of technology in education has been over a century, yet blockchain is in its nascent stage in education. Over the years, technology has enhanced the teaching-learning method, and blockchain can improve even in the administrative section of education. The states of North East, India, in general, lag behind the rest of Indian states in almost all sectors, and the lack of transparency in the administrative sector significantly contributed to it. If blockchain is incorporated into the education department at the administrative level, it could pave the way for a faster, more transparent, and smoother administration. Given the harsh reality that transportation is hard and expensive, a standardised blockchain can alleviate the need to be physically present for any academic-related activity. The attempt of this study would be to show how blockchain can be beneficially used even at the institutional level, where unabated printing could be reduced and adopting to e-paper be maximised. Besides the educational institutions, the administrative sector in education could profitably use them in offices, thereby avoiding red tape for the common people. The chapter points out how blockchain can be a trailblazer in reshaping the education sector in Manipur. Educational institutions must take the lead towards a sustainable future, and blockchain can aid in bringing some visible change in the educational sector. Indigenous Beliefs and Practices for Sustainability Among the Mao Nagas
The present society of Mao Nagas is sandwiched between trends to modernity and tendencies to be rooted in the cultural past. Prior to the arrival of Christianity, the Maos were considered animists; the sway of the one Supreme Being, and human relations with nature permeated the social, cultural, and spiritual realm. When the sky represented the father, and the earth, the mother; exploitation becomes inconsequential. Despite the odds of having limited ancestral land, the Maos have proven themselves self-sustainable within the place of habitation. The fact that there are no beggars among the Maos proves that certain aspects of the SDGs are ingrained in the beliefs. The Feast of Merit prevented extreme riches in society. With education, the Mao Nagas learned the harmful effects of shifting cultivation and abandoned its entirety. This paper tries to conceptually prove that if ancient beliefs and practices are tempered with scientific knowledge, life is sustainable. A Novel Preprocessing Technique to Aid the Detection of Infected Areas of CT Images in COVID-19 Patients Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Communication Systems

An ordered ideal intuitionistic fuzzy software quality model
Software is one of the major factors in the development of computer - based systems and products. Measurement of the software quality is thus the key factor that has to be taken into account while developing a software system. Many software quality models with numerous quality parameters are under use to measure the performance of a software system, on the basis of which the software is valued. This study intends to make available a fuzzy multiple criteria decision making (FMCDM) approach to measure software quality and to propose new similarity measures between ordered ideal intuitionistic fuzzy sets (OIIFSs). A modified fuzzy approach to prioritize project activities
Project management is an important task in business although project is not just confined to business. Due to the uncertainty of the various variables involved in a project, over several past decades research is going on in the search for an efficient project management model. Although numerous crisp models are easily implementable, the potential of fuzzy models are huge. In the case of software development, the variables involved are highly dynamic. In this paper, we propose a ranking based fuzzy model that can prioritize various activities. We use a popular crisp model to test the effectiveness of the fuzzy model proposed. A fuzzy soft coronavirus alarm model
The entire world experienced a rampant outbreak of Covid-19 beginning in December 2019. The spread of this disease was so rapid and aggressive that many developed countries struggled to control it. However, some countries such as China and Australia have done a commendable job of controlling this virus. Various studies have been done in parallel to analyze strategies to curb the spread of the virus. In many locations, people displayed swarm intelligence. The collective behavior of people was mixed. Some people followed the instructions of the health authorities. In addition to the instructions, people in some localities developed self-organization to resist the spreading of the virus. This research work mainly focuses on the prediction of coronavirus spread in different districts of Kerala by use of a fuzzy approach as the fuzzy approach is considered the best tool that would not show imprecise data in any situation. The PRONE (Predicted Risk of New Event) indexing algorithm was used for finding the intensity of the spread in five districts of Kerala (Trivandrum, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasargod) and was evaluated under the input parameters of immunity of person, food habits, financial factors, and age with the total number of infected people as the output variable. An eight-step algorithm is provided to determine the PRONE index. Kasargod is more vulnerable to the virus. The final results show that this proposed model better predicts virus spread. 2024 Elsevier Inc. TenzinNet for handwritten Tibetan numeral recognition
Tibet is known for its enumerable collection of Nalanda based Buddhism manuscripts that need to be digitized for immortalization of the teachings of Buddha and various Buddhist scholars. Handwritten Tibetan numeral recognition is relatively unexplored as compared to Roman and Chinese numerals. Recognition of handwritten documents for digitalization has been under study from past many years. This work proposes a novel model using convolutional neural networks architecture named as TenzinNet to recognize handwritten Tibetan numerals. Research progress of MXenes and MXenes-based catalysts for photocatalytic water splitting: A systematic review
The field of two-dimensional (2D) materials has witnessed remarkable growth over the years, especially on a class of materials known as MXenes. MXenes have garnered significant attention for their exceptional physicochemical properties, which include high electrical and thermal conductivity, large surface area, adjustable bandgap, and hydrophilicity. These characteristics have paved the way for a diverse range of applications, including photocatalysis, electrocatalysis, supercapacitors, sensing, and biomedicine. MXenes have been recognized to be particularly effective in applications such as photocatalytic hydrogen production through water splitting reactions. This involves using MXenes as cocatalysts to enhance the efficiency of the photocatalytic process. In this review, the various synthetic methods for producing MXenes and MXenes-based catalysts are summarized, shedding light on the versatility of their fabrication techniques. The underlying mechanisms of photocatalytic H2 evolution are explored, providing insights into how MXenes function as cocatalysts in these reactions. These mechanisms are crucial for understanding the enhancement of H2 production and improving the overall efficiency of the water splitting process. Furthermore, the review delves into the challenges that researchers face when utilizing MXenes and MXene-based materials for electrocatalytic water splitting. These challenges serve as motivation for further exploration and innovation in the field, driving the development of more efficient and sustainable electrocatalytic systems. In this discussion, the potential future applications of MXenes and their composites in electrocatalytic water splitting and other fields are explored. The Learning Organization for attaining inclusive growth: A new paradigm for the emerging educational market
This chapter aims to apply the concept of the learning organization for the higher educational institutions (HEIs) for attaining inclusive growth. For the theoretical underpinning, the concept of the professional learning community has been considered because there exists only a very thin difference with the learning organization concept. The researchers used a qualitative approach to analyze the literature resources to find the most promising variables associated with the learning organization and used Dedoose (qualitative software) to select the variables. It is found that variables such as knowledge management, inspired learning, team learning, and transcending organizational boundaries are the most important variables associated with a learning organization. The corporates which have implemented LO have been very successful and one of them is Royal Dutch Shell. The Indian Higher Educational Institutions are the backbone of the Indian economy. However, there is no yardstick to measure success. LO can be implemented to check the growth. This research work will serve as a base for motivating future researchers to make use of the LO concept for drafting educational policy for inclusive growth. If all HEIs are learning organizations, India will soon be a highly rich country. Indian HEI has not practised the concept of learning organization. Motivational Behaviour of Tourism Employees in Relation to Organisational Culture and Career Orientations
The productivity and effectiveness of any organisation depends mainly on the performance level of the employees in the organisation. Human behaviour scientists over the years have conducted various studies and have concluded that, the performance of employees in any organisation depends largely on their motivational behaviour. Reviews of related literature confirm the role of various factors in the motivational behaviour of employees including organisational culture and career orientation of employees. The title of the present study is Motivational Behaviour of Tourism Employees in Relation to Organisational Culture and Career Orientations. The major objectives included ascertaining the relationship between motivational behaviour and organisational culture and career orientations of tourism employees and finding out whether differences in demographic variables would account for significant differences in motivational behaviour. The population of the study consisted of 323 employees of public sector, private sector and multinational companies working in travel agencies, tour operations, airlines and hotels and resorts in Bangalore. The sampling technique employed was judgment sampling. For the present study three tools namely: Motivational Analysis of Organisations- Behaviour (MAO-B) by Pareek (2003), Organisational Culture Survey by Pareek (2003) and Career orientations Inventory by Schein (1990) were used to collect data. The findings of the study show that while two aspects of organisational culture namely internal and future oriented influence the motivational behaviour of employees working in the private sector, no aspect of organisational culture has any influence on the motivational behaviour of employees working in the public sector. Further, only ambiguity tolerant aspect of organisational culture influence the motivational behaviour of employees working in multinational companies. -
Phishfort - Anti-phishing framework
Phishing attack is one of the most common form of attack used to get unauthorized access to users' credentials or any other sensitive information. It is classified under social engineering attack, which means it is not a technical vulnerability. The attacker exploits the human nature to make mistake by fooling the user to think that a given web page is genuine and submitting confidential data into an embedded form, which is harvested by the attacker. A phishing page is often an exact replica of the legitimate page, the only noticeable difference is the URL. Normal users do not pay close attention to the URL every time, hence they are exploited by the attacker. This paper suggests a login framework which can be used independently or along with a browser extension which will act as a line of defense against such phishing attacks. The semi-automated login mechanism suggested in this paper eliminates the need for the user to be alert at all time, and it also provides a personalized login screen so that the user can to distinguish between a genuine and fake login page quite easily. 2018 Authors. -
Extending schizophrenia diagnostic model to predict schizotypy in first-degree relatives
Recently, we developed a machine-learning algorithm EMPaSchiz that learns, from a training set of schizophrenia patients and healthy individuals, a model that predicts if a novel individual has schizophrenia, based on features extracted from his/her resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging. In this study, we apply this learned model to first-degree relatives of schizophrenia patients, who were found to not have active psychosis or schizophrenia. We observe that the participants that this model classified as schizophrenia patients had significantly higher schizotypal personality scores than those who were not. Further, the EMPaSchiz probability score for schizophrenia status was significantly correlated with schizotypal personality score. This demonstrates the potential of machine-learned diagnostic models to predict state-independent vulnerability, even when symptoms do not meet the full criteria for clinical diagnosis. 2020, The Author(s). -
A comprehensive review on natural macromolecular biopolymers for biomedical applications: Recent advancements, current challenges, and future outlooks
Versatile material properties coupled with high degree of biocompatibility and biodegradability has made biopolymers as potential candidates for diverse applications in the biomedical field. Natural biopolymers derived from various plant, animal and microbial sources with different biochemical compositions are extensively used in biomaterial industry with or without further medication to their native form. Biopolymeric biomaterials have been employed in a wide range of biomedical applications like tissue engineering, drug delivery, bone regeneration, wound dressings and cardiovascular surgery. Carbohydrate based biopolymers and protein based biopolymers are extensively used for several applications in the biomedical field including cartilage regeneration, periodontal tissue regeneration, bone regeneration, corneal regeneration, drug delivery and wound healing. This review work presents a comprehensive outlook on the applications of various biopolymers in biomedical field. The work elaborates the biochemistry of these polymers with special focus on their crucial properties in the biomedical industry. Further a detailed description on the most recent application of various biopolymers in the biomedical filed is presented in this review. Exploring the influence of KOH electrolyte concentration on the electrochemical properties of Co3O4-GO nanocomposite
In this study, we investigate the electrochemical performance of Co3O4-GO nanocomposite, synthesized via a hydrothermal method, as a function of electrolyte concentration. XRD, Raman, SEM, TEM, XPS, and BET techniques have been employed to examine the structural, microstructural, chemical states, and specific surface area characteristics of the composite material. According to SEM micrographs, the aggregated particles have a sheet-like morphology, and these sheets have been assembled into clusters. Using N2-adsorption/desorption isotherms, the pore volume, diameter, and specific surface area of composite were determined to be 0.24 cm3/g, 15 nm, and 63 m2/g, respectively. Based on cyclic voltammograms (CVs) recorded at different scan rates and electrolyte concentrations, the working electrode demonstrated pseudocapacitance behavior. The specific capacitance (Cs) of the fabricated electrode was estimated from GCD curves recorded at different current densities and electrolyte concentrations. For 1 M KOH solution, Cs of the composite electrode is found to be 258 F/g at 1 A/g, and this value drops to 222 F/g at 5 A/g. Furthermore the composite electrode's Cs decreases with increasing electrolyte concentration at a specific current density. The study indicates that 1 M of KOH electrolyte is the optimal electrolyte concentration for optimal energy storage. 2024 Elsevier Ltd
