Method of preparing a document for survey instrument validation by experts
Validation of a survey instrument is an important activity in the research process. Face validity and content validity, though being qualitative methods, are essential steps in validating how far the survey instrument can measure what it is intended for. These techniques are used in both scale development processes and a questionnaire that may contain multiple scales. In the face and content validation, a survey instrument is usually validated by experts from academics and practitioners from field or industry. Researchers face challenges in conducting a proper validation because of the lack of an appropriate method for communicating the requirement and receiving the feedback. In this Paper, the authors develop a template that could be used for the validation of survey instrument. In instrument development process, after the item pool is generated, the template is completed and sent to the reviewer. The reviewer will be able to give the necessary feedback through the template that will be helpful to the researcher in improving the instrument. 2021 The Author(s) -
Vicarious Trauma in Law Students: Role of Gender, Personality, and Social Support
Law student trainees are exposed to trauma-related work which puts them at higher risk of being adversely affected by it. Since they are not directly related to the event, their distress goes unnoticed. The repetitive account of traumatic instances leads to traumatization of their own which is referred to as vicarious traumatization. The purpose of this paper was to delve into the degree to which the role of gender, personality, and social support impact law students vulnerability to vicarious trauma. For the current research, exploratory design was utilized. All one hundred and twenty participants were selected using purposive sampling. Self-report measures were employed to investigate social support, personality traits, and vicarious trauma in sixty male and sixty female law students. The results revealed that female law students and those law students who are high on Neuroticism and low on Extraversion are more vulnerable to experiencing vicarious trauma. A Big Data Analysis Using Fuzzy Deep Convolution Network Based Model for Heart Disease Classification
Heart disease is a serious disease that causes sudden death among 80% of the people around the world. The traditional models performed predictive analytics using machine learning techniques to make a better decision. For better decision making in heart disease prediction, the big data analysis shows the great opportunities to predict the future health status from health parameters and provide best outcomes. However, the traditional decision making models had traffic data or contained noise and uncertainty was unpredictable as the data ambiguity emerged. In order to overcome such an issue, the big data is used to ensure the medical service which is mostly needed in a timely manner and for accurate diagnosis. The pre-processing of the medical data acquired from Cleveland heart disease UCI datasets has a vast number of attributes which helps to predict the heart disease. The data are contaminated with the noise and some of the data are missing, so the pre-processing using Min max Normalization is performed to remove contaminated noise acquired in the data which is taken from the UCI repository dataset. The proposed Fuzzy Deep Convolution Network (FDCN) permits the input features for fuzzification process that uses transformed features. The fuzzification process eliminates the redundant or irrelevant fuzzified features and overcomes the system complexity problems. The proposed FDCN obtains accuracy of 95.56 % and 92 % of F-score shows better results when compared with the existing KNN-DT, Naive Bayes, and Random Forest algorithms. 2021,International Journal of Intelligent Engineering and Systems. Study on heat transfer and pressure drop in tube-in-tube helical heat exchanger
The present work aims to investigate the effect of different configurations of the tube-in-tube helically coiled heat exchanger. Commercial CFD codes were used to predict the fluid flow and heat transfer in a tube-in-tube helical heat exchanger. The model of different configurations of the inner tube has been simulated by varying the Dean number. The numerical results are verified and found to be in good agreement with reported data in the literature. Nusselt Number and friction factor are evaluated for different angular positions. The use of geometry E increases the Nusselt number and friction factor by 19.05% and 16% respectively at a Dean number of 4000 as compared with a circular tube as compared with the circular tube. 2021 Tamkang University. Regarding on the fractional mathematical model of tumour invasion and metastasis
In this paper, we analyze the behaviour of solution for the system exemplifying model of tumour invasion and metastasis by the help of q-homotopy analysis transform method (q-HATM) with the fractional operator. The analyzed model consists of a system of three nonlinear differential equations elucidating the activation and the migratory response of the degradation of the matrix, tumour cells and production of degradative enzymes by the tumour cells. The considered method is graceful amalgamations of q-homotopy analysis techniquewith Laplace transform(LT), and Caputo-Fabrizio (CF) fractional operator is hired in the present study. By using the fixed point theory, existence and uniqueness are demonstrated. To validate and present the effectiveness of the considered algorithm, we analyzed the considered system in terms of fractional order with time and space. The error analysis of the considered scheme is illustrated. The variations with small change time with respect to achieved results are effectively captured in plots. The obtained results confirm that the considered method is very efficient and highly methodical to analyze the behaviors of the system of fractional order differential equations. 2021 Tech Science Press. Purpose-driven leadership and organizational success: a case of higher educational institutions
Purpose: This paper aims to examine the relationships between organizational purpose, leadership practices and sustainable outcomes for universities in emerging economies. We propose that a strong sense of purpose is a fundamental and defining feature in the leadership practices of these institutions, which ultimately contributes to their success. Design/methodology/approach: The authors present a research model that defines the relationships between a sense of purpose, leadership practices, student success outcomes, alumni involvement outcomes and societal reputation outcomes. Over 200 higher education administrators in India participated in the study. Findings: The institutions' sense of purpose directly relates to their leadership engagement practices and their student success outcomes. Student success outcomes are a crucial linkage between leadership engagement practices and alumni involvement outcomes to achieve their societal reputation. Practical implications: As competitiveness intensifies, educational institutions under resource constraints must differentiate their organizational practices. This paper demonstrates how their core purpose and leadership actions result in achieving effective outcomes and overall sustainable societal reputation. Originality/value: There is a significant difference between having an organizational purpose and enacting that purpose through their leadership practices. These results highlight the cascading effect from the institution's fundamental sense of purpose to their leadership practices and the positive outcomes of student success, alumni involvement and societal reputation. 2021, Emerald Publishing Limited. -
Electrochemical Sensing of Formaldehyde in Fish Samples Using a Polydopamine-Modified Stainless Steel Electrode
Electrodeposited polydopamine (pDA) on a stainless steel substrate was developed for electrochemical sensing of formaldehyde in fish samples. Experimental conditions such as influence of scan rate, pH, and concentration were optimized. The pDA modified electrode was sensitive enough to detect formaldehyde at a potential of 0.8 V in an acidic aqueous solution. The lLinear dynamic range for the detection of formaldehyde was in the range of 0.43 to 1.60 ?m under optimal conditions. The detection and quantitation limits were found to be 0.14 and 0.43 ?m respectively. A Relative Reference Responsive LRU based Page Replacement Algorithm for NAND Flash Memory
The acceptance of NAND flash memories in the electronic world, due to its non-volatility, high density, low power consumption, small size and fast access speed is hopeful. Due to the limitations in life span and wear levelling, this memory needs special attention in its management techniques compared to the conventional techniques used in hard disks. In this paper, an efficient page replacement algorithm is proposed for NAND flash based memory systems. The proposed algorithm focuses on decision making policies based on the relative reference ratio of pages in memory. The size adjustable eviction window and the relative reference based shadow list management technique proposed by the algorithm contribute much to the efficiency in page replacement procedure. The simulation tool based experiments conducted shows that the proposed algorithm performs superior to the well-known flash based page replacement algorithms with regard to page hit ratio and memory read/write operations. 2021, Webology. Design and optimization of the process parameters for friction stir welding of dissimilar aluminium alloys
Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is one of the unique solid state welding technique that is fast gaining importance because of its ability to produce strong joints. The friction stir welding technique is effectively used in this research to join 5 mm thick dissimilar aluminium alloys of AA 7075-O and AA 5052-O grade. The effect of tool pin profile and tool rotational speed on the mechanical properties like micro-hardness and tensile strength are studied by the optimized Design of Experiments (DOE). The experiments are designed based on L16 orthogonal array considering TAGUCHI techniques for four design parameters and four parametric levels. The outcomes of experimental techniques are tabulated and TAGUCHI analysis, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) are carried out in Minitab software. From the experimental results and statistical techniques, the methodology is validated and the outcomes of the experiments are found to be in close agreement with the statistical results with the error less than 5% of the mean difference value. The optimized process parameters for better micro hardness are as follows: tool rotational speed of 1200 rpm, feed of 120 mm/min, tool offset of 1 mm, and cylindrical tapered pin tool profile; while the optimized design of process parameters for better tensile strength are as follows: tool rotational speed of 1400 rpm, feed of 120 mm/min, tool offset of 1 mm and cylindrical tapered pin profile. Cloud service negotiation framework for real-time E-commerce application using game theory decision system
A major demanding issue is developing a Service Level Agreement (SLA) based negotiation framework in the cloud. To provide personalized service access to consumers, a novel Automated Dynamic SLA Negotiation Framework (ADSLANF) is proposed using a dynamic SLA concept to negotiate on service terms and conditions. The existing frameworks exploit a direct negotiation mechanism where the provider and consumer can directly talk to each other, which may not be applicable in the future due to increasing demand on broker-based models. The proposed ADSLANF will take very less total negotiation time due to complicated negotiation mechanisms using a third-party broker agent. Also, a novel game theory decision system will suggest an optimal solution to the negotiating agent at the time of generating a proposal or counter proposal. This optimal suggestion will make the negotiating party aware of the optimal acceptance range of the proposal and avoid the negotiation break off by quickly reaching an agreement. 2021 - IOS Press. Parallelization of frequent itemset mining methods with fp-tree: An experiment with prepost+ algorithm
Parallel processing has turn to be a common programming practice because of its efficiency and thus becomes an interesting field for researchers. With the introduction of multi-core processors as well as general purpose graphics processing units, parallel programming has become affordable. This leads to the parallelization of many of the complex data processing algorithms including algorithms in data mining. In this paper, a study on parallel PrePost+ is presented. PrePost+ is an efficient frequent itemset mining algorithm. Assessing perceptions of COVID-19 self-protective measures: a structural equation modeling (SEM) approach
Purpose: This study aimed to develop scales to assess perceptions of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) self-protective measures (SPMs) and examine the psychometric properties based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB). Design/methodology/approach: A total of 412 participants from Bangalore, India, randomly volunteered to participate in this research. The questionnaire consisted of items related to the TPB scales and demographic details. Findings: A structural equation model showed a reasonable model fit. In total, 70% of the individuals' behavioral intentions of following COVID-19 SPMs were predicted by perceived benefits, barriers, social norms and social influence. Participants' age impacted on perceived benefits and perceived social influence and individuals' behavioral intentions of following COVID-19 SPMs, with a 13.6% difference in model prediction. The Role of Women in the Formation of Organizational Climates in Various Workspaces in Bengaluru, India
This study examined the influence of women in the formation of organizational climates and their effectiveness in this competitive era. Favorable climates and working conditions enhance work quality and increase organizational cohesion that develops interpersonal bonds to accomplish workplace goals. Women have faced multiple challenges in the banking industry. To address gender disparity, women leaders created initiatives to empower women and encourage society to pay attention to gender equality. Bank Presidents and Senior Managers have the responsibility of creating an organizational culture that is safer for women to participate in; organizations should be designed with women in mind. It is true that women employees appear to have a higher level of organizational commitment. They are often considered to be a key talent pool for industries. This study aimed to investigate the engagement of women in their organizational culture and to determine how this correlates with workplace conditions. The present study explored the challenges women face in maintaining positive working conditions and effective operative strategies. We collected data through a structured questionnaire with the help of convenience sampling from 124 working women of commercial, public, and foreign banks situated in Bengaluru. We analyzed the data quantitatively with the Likert scale, ranking analysis, and percentage analysis to identify antecedents of organizational climate and the role of women in building a professional environment. Results revealed that the significant problems faced by women to sustain a healthy climate in the workplace are lack of supervisor encouragement and the disparity in rewards and benefits. We further inferred that women employees shape their attitudes both in their personal and professional lives to accomplish their personal and organizational goals. They prioritize their jobs more than their personal needs to balance their personal and organizational requirements; however, they feel a lack of teamwork and require a better conflict management system. 2021. How Offensive is offensive? A Closer Look at Controversial Advertisements
We live in a world inundated with messages that seek to promote products varied and eclectic in their feel and purpose. Capitalism has rooted itself in many societies; corporate enterprises enthusiastically advertise their products around the world. Over the years we have had countless advertisements bombard us through our TV sets, newspapers, billboards and now through our smartphones. While attention-grabbing, these advertisements are unfortunately often considered questionable. Rising competition among advertisers for consumer attention has led to the production of advertisements that are increasingly risquand frequently downright offensive. There have been growing concerns about the increasingly low standards of advertisements. Be it excessive sexual content, discrimination on grounds of gender, or propagating regressive philosophies, advertisements seek attention for the wrong reasons. While some advertisements were once downright discriminative towards the female population, things seem to have gradually gotten better over the past few years. However, that is not to say that stereotyping and sexism have been wholly eradicated from advertising; these issues are still prevalent today. Though some consumers watch advertisements through a critical lense and critique unethical advertisements, many offensive and discriminative advertisements have still become widely known and popular among viewers. The present paper seeks to explore the idea of offensiveness in advertisements through an analysis of advertising content on the basis of gender discrimination and stereotypical portrayals of gender. Further, a focused group discussion adds audience perspective to the issue as well. Straddled by Uses and Gratification Theory, Social Responsibility Theory, and Self-Construal Theory, this study attempts to explore the concept of the offensiveness of controversial advertisements and to determine the reasons why an advertisement is deemed offensive. Discrete Integrity Assuring Slice-Based Secured Data Aggregation Scheme for Wireless Sensor Network (DIA-SSDAS)
In a wireless sensor network, data privacy with a minimum network bandwidth usage is addressed using homomorphic-based data aggregation schemes. Most of the schemes which ensure the end-to-end privacy provide collective integrity verification of aggregated data at the receiver end. The presence of corrupted values affects the integrity of the aggregated data and results in the rejection of the whole data by the base station (BS) thereby leading to the wastage of bandwidth and other resources of energy constraint wireless sensor network. In this paper, we propose a secured data aggregation scheme by slicing the data generated by each sensor node deployed in layered topology and enabling en route aggregation. Novel encoding of data and hash slices based on child order is proposed to enable concatenation-based additive aggregation and smooth extraction of slices from the aggregate by the BS. Elliptic curve-based homomorphic encryption is adopted to ensure end-to-end confidentiality. To the best of our knowledge, the proposed scheme is the first which facilitates the BS to perform node-wise integrity verification, filter out only the corrupted portion, and implement dynamic query over the received data. Communication- and computation-based performance analysis shows the efficiency of the proposed scheme for varied network sizes. Psychological science and COVID-19: An agenda for social action.
This report summarizes what is known about the psychological impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and proposes ways for psychology organizations to engage in addressing pandemic-related challenges. A stress and coping framework is used to describe key factors that account for mental health difficulties resulting from the stress of pandemics including the pandemic course, political leadership and public response, cumulative stressors, risk and protective factors, and coping strategies. Psychology organizations could do much to provide help particularly to vulnerable healthcare and frontline workers, the elderly, and the socially isolated. They could offer clinical services and design prevention programs, train non-professional community workers to provide mental health first aid, assist NGOs and political leaders, and translate basic research on psychological factors that influence acceptance of public health measures. The pandemic occurs at a time of advanced connectivity that provides an opportunity for (a) scientific information exchange, (b) alleviation of distress of social isolation, but also (c) infodemic, unprecedented spread of hoaxes and online incitements to non-compliance with preventative measures. Psychologys role is not limited to addressing mental health needs but also includes promoting adjustment to changes in the economy, education and employment, and developing effective communication strategies that encourage acceptance of public health measures. Anti-bacterial and biocompatibility properties of green synthesized silver nanoparticles using Parkia biglandulosa (Fabales:Fabaceae) leaf extract
The biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles is considered to be a feasible, green, and eco-friendly method. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized using badminton ball tree (Parkia biglandulosa) leaf extract and their significant physiochemical properties were characterized. The aqueous extract of the leaf of P. biglandulosa act as a reducing as well as capping agent for the reduction of Ag+ ?ions. FTIR analysis was conducted to find out the compounds that were liable for the bio-reduction of silver ions and to study the functional groups present in P. bigalandulosa leaf extract. The biologically reduced silver nanoparticles showed a surface plasmon resonance at 439 ?nm as studied from the UVvisible absorption spectrum. TEM studies confirmed the shape of the nanoparticles to be spherical with an average diameter of 15 ?nm. The anti-bacterial properties of the prepared nanoparticles were tested against Bacillus cereus by well plate method. Biosynthesized silver nanoparticles (PbAgNPs) at 0.02 ?M concentration showed the most antibacterial activity with a zone of inhibition of 7 ?mm. The high biocompatibility of the PbAgNPs by using human skin fibroblast cell line was evaluated by Alamar Blue reduction assay. The PbAgNPs had shown the highest cell viability when compared to native nanoparticles, meanwhile, a significant increase in cell viability was noted for the nanoparticles. The biosynthetic approach for synthesis was found to be a facile, rapid, single-step, safe, and effective alternative to the conventional physical/chemical methods. 2021 The Authors -
