A study investigating the role of economic uncertainty and factors affecting futures indices mispricing
In this paper, we investigate (a) what are the factors that affect the mispricing in benchmark and sectoral indices; (b) the role of economic policy uncertainty (EPU) on the mispricing in future indices; and (c) is there any relationship between the magnitude of mispricing in future indices and the number of factors affecting it. The study deploys regression analysis on the 6930 observations during the period of 2009-2019 for three major indices i.e., Nifty, Nifty Bank and Nifty IT respectively. The study reports that (a) time to maturity and lag of mispricing affect all three indices positively whereas open interest affects Nifty Bank and Nifty IT negatively and spot volume affects only Nifty IT positively; (b) EPU affects positively to all three indices, reflecting that uncertainty increases the mispricing in the stock market; (c) magnitude of the mispricing is directly related to the number of factors affecting that mispricing. Determinants of Hand Washing Practices among Adolescents in India Findings from CNNS Data, 2016-18
The study attempts to assess the effect of socioeconomic determinants on access to Good Handwashing Practices (GHP) among the adolescent population in India. The Comprehensive National Nutrition Survey (CNNS), 2016-18 dataset is used to identify the predictor and outcome variable for the study. Binary logistic regression established the adolescents age and sex, mothers schooling, wealth index, and the region as a significant predictor for GHP. The study revealed that gender, age, caste, education, individual household wealth, and the region has a significant association with adolescent hand-washing practices, where economic conditions drive the individual practice of handwashing more than the behavioural aspect. It requires government intervention to improve sanitation and water facilities to accelerate hand-washing among adolescents in India. 2022 Tata Institute of Social Sciences. All rights reserved. -

Green Synthesis of ?-Fe2O3 Nanoparticles Mediated Musa Acuminata: A Study of Their Applications as Photocatalytic Degradation and Antibacterial Agent
The present study was aimed to green synthesize of ?-Fe2O3 nanoparticles (NPs) using flower extract of Musa acuminata and examination of their antibacterial and photocatalytic activities. The synthesized NPs were investigated using UV-visible spectroscopy, which exhibited a colour change pattern, and the maximum absorption peak at 265 nm confirmed the formation of ?-Fe2O3 NPs. The FTIR analysis showed the presence of various functional groups coated over the synthesized ?-Fe2O3 NPs. The XRD pattern showed that the formation of rhombohedral structure with an average crystallite size was 21.86 nm. FESEM micrographs revealed that ?-Fe2O3 NPs were roughly spherical in shape. EDX spectrum confirmed the presence of Fe and O elements. By TEM analysis, the average particle size was calculated to be 32 nm. Using the well diffusion method, the antibacterial activity of ?-Fe2O3 NPs was tested against both gram positive and negative bacterial strains of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli). The NPs exhibited good antibacterial activity against the tested bacteria. Finally, the synthesized ?-Fe2O3 NPs demonstrated the photocatalytic degradation of Crystal Violet (CV) dye under sunlight. The efficiency of degradation within 150 min was determined to be 90.27% for CV. This effective removal method under sunlight may support a cost-effective method for degradation of CV dyes from wastewater. Copyright T Indhumathi, N Krishnamoorthy, R. Parental Perception of the Effectiveness of Online Classes for Primary School Children: A Mixed-Methods Approach
The unprecedented measures to control the spread of COVID-19 have affected both students and parents as education institutions have almost overnight shifted to virtual platforms. This study explores the effectiveness of online classes on primary school children s performance and investigates online classes impact on children s behaviour and holistic development. It explores the impact of online classes on parents workload by adopting a sequential research method. The data were collected using Google form and telephonic interviews with randomly selected parent respondents. Results exhibit that online classes are ineffective, and there is an indicative change in children s behaviour. Also, the lack of social interaction with peers and teachers, and minimal physical activities, have made online sessions monotonous for children. Parents have been experiencing an increased workload, as they are expected to be mentors, curators, and personal tutors for their children. The study emphasizes a need for exclusive curriculum and pedagogy development suitable for online classes. Copyright 2022, IGI Global. -

Partial domination in prisms of graphs
For any graph G = (V,E) and proportion p ? (0,1], a set S ? V is a p-dominating set if |N|V[S|]| ? p. The p-domination number ?p(G) equals the minimum cardinality of a p-dominating set in G. For a permutation ? of the vertex set of G, the graph ?G is obtained from two disjoint copies G1 and G2 of G by joining each v in G1 to ?(v) in G2. i.e., V (?G) = V (G1) ? V (G2) and E(G) = E(G1) ? E(G2) ? {(v, ?(v)): v ? V (G1), ?(v) ? V (G2)}. The graph ?G is called the prism of G with respect to ?. In this paper, we find some relations between the domination and the p-domination numbers in the context of graph and its prism graph for particular values of p. 2022 Forum-Editrice Universitaria Udinese SRL. The impact of ESG inclusion on price, liquidity and financial performance of Indian stocks: Evidence from stocks listed in BSE and NSE ESG indices
In recent years, investors have perceived that Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices significantly increase the value of companies' stocks. This study investigates the impact of ESG inclusion on the price, liquidity and financial performance of stocks listed in the Indian ESG indices. Two major Indian benchmark ESG Indices, the BSE100 ESG and Nifty 100 ESG, were considered for the study. A total sample of 64 firms from the BSE100 ESG index and 86 firms from the Nifty100 ESG index were selected. The market model of the event study methodology was employed to measure AAR and CAAR and to demonstrate the effect before and after the inclusion of the stocks in the ESG indices. The empirical results show a highly significant negative AAR on the announcement day, i.e., on (day = 0) for BSE100 ESG index stocks and an insignificant positive AAR for Nifty100 ESG index stocks. In addition, the results also document a significant negative CAAR for BSE 100 ESG stocks and a positive insignificant CAAR for Nifty100 ESG stocks. Moreover, the liquidity test results revealed a considerable liquidity enhancement in the stocks posts their inclusion in the BSE100 ESG. At the same time, there were no significant changes in the liquidity ratio of stocks after being included in the Nifty100 ESG index. This study concludes that there will be a substantial improvement in the companies' financial performance as indicated by EPS and market capitalization after their inclusion in the ESG indices. Size, Value Effects and the Explanatory Power of Pricing Models: Evidence from BSE listed Indian Industries
The firm size and value anomalies are the global-level counterpart for explaining the cross-sectional variations of equity returns. This paper aims to examine the size, value effects and explanatory power of three well-known pricing models - CAPM, three-and five-factor- across and within 15 Indian industries. The study considers all firms listed on Indian largest stock exchange, BSE (Bombay stock exchange), between 1999-2021 by developing portfolios using firm size/value, size/investment and size/profitability risk characteristics. The study employs both univariate and multivariate methods, including time series, GRS statistics, and cross-sectional models within and across industries portfolios. Results indicated that size and value effects exist in almost all industries, presenting that size and value anomalies are the most prominent determinants for industry-level equity returns. In addition, the profitability and investment effects were also investigated; however, the results are mixed from industry to industry. In the case of the explanatory power of pricing models, the five-factor performs much better within and across industry portfolios than other pricing models; however, the models' effectiveness varies by industry. We also reported that investors who seek to allocate funds within and across industries tend to be expected reasonably stable returns and conceivably predictable; the findings of this study contribute to the existing literature on asset pricing and portfolio management in emerging markets. Robust feature selection using rough set-based ant-lion optimizer for data classification
The selection of an algorithm to tackle a certain problem is a vital undertaking that necessitates both time and knowledge. Non-functional needs, such as the size, quality, and nature of the data, must frequently be taken into account. To develop a generalized machine learning model for any domain, the most relevant features must be chosen because noisy and irrelevant characteristics degrade data mining performance. However, the selection of the dominating features is still dependent on the search technique. When there are a high number of input features, stochastic optimization can be applied to the search space. In this research, the authors investigate the ant lion optimization (ALO), a natureinspired algorithm that mimics the hunting process of ant lions and is further stimulated to identify the smallest reducts. They also investigate rough set-based ant lion optimizer for feature selection. The actual results reveal that the ant lion-based rough set reduct selects a better feature subset and classifies them more accurately. 2022 Information Resources Management Association.
