Antecedents of psychological capital and its consequences on affective commitment and psychological wellbeing
Jharkhand Education Board stakeholders face the problem of dealing with the educational environment, thereby escalating a teacher's morale. To address this situation, a positive mindset in education, particularly among teachers, is desirable. Hence, based on positive psychology discipline, conservation of resource theory, and broaden and build theory, the study was carried out using a sequential explanatory mixed-method study design. The research questions addressed in the study were as follows: To what extent can the categories of proactive personality, emotional intelligence, servant leadership, and perceived organizational support predict PsyCap of teachers? To what extent will PsyCap predict the categories of affective commitment and psychological wellbeing? I considered both quantitative and qualitative methods; hence, this study had two phases. In the first phase, the data was gathered from 722 teachers using the survey instruments. The statistical analyses performed were Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Modeling with the software SPSS 20.0 and AMOS 20.0. For teachers of rural Jharkhand, the study found that psychological capital has three dimensions. Besides proactive personality, emotional intelligence, and servant leadership also impact psychological capital. Further, psychological capital affects affective commitment and psychological wellbeing. In the second phase, this study examined the way and the reason behind the functioning of the antecedents of psychological capital using qualitative content analysis. The results offered a comprehensive understanding and identification of the antecedents that form rural teachers' psychological capital. Implications of the research include recommendations for recruiting teachers with higher levels of psychological capital and professional development through in-service teachers' training with a specific focus on psychological capital. -

The Jesuit educational mission in rural Chotanagpur, India: historical achievements and contemporary challenges
Jesuit schools, in particular, have been known for a long time to be centres of learning in Chotanagpur area, India, where tremendous efforts were made to achieve a high level of academic excellence; yet it appears that this legacy is not being sustained among rural, tribal, vernacular schools of Chotanagpur these days because of varied reasons. In addition, it is observed that the agents of education, namely teachers, working in these schools have ceased to represent desirable attitudes (psychological wellbeing and affective commitment) which are essential for the teaching-learning process. If Jesuits want to maintain relevant and inspirational education in Chotanagpur, then they need to discern, decide, and dedicate themselves to guarantee teachers psychological well-being and affective commitment so that teachers can become creators of the Jesuit education ethos. Against this backdrop, the present research paper discusses the scenario of Jesuit run rural schools in Chotanagpur its historical achievements and contemporary challenges. In addition, practical implications and recommendations for a better future are discussed. 2019 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group. -
Predictors of Positive Psychological Capital: An Attempt Among the Teacher Communities in Rural Jharkhand, India
In the recent times, researchers have shown an increased interest in positive psychological capital (PsyCap). However, it is acknowledged that due to the limited number of studies conducted on the antecedents of psychological capital, there is a lack of sufficient data for conclusively proving the antecedents of PsyCap. Consequently, this article aims to explore the potential antecedents of PsyCap as a reliable source of data in the context of rural school teachers. The focus is to investigate both the individual differences and the contextual factors as desirable variables that constitute PsyCap among the school teachers of rural Jharkhand, India. Samples of 1,120 respondents from different rural schools were collected and analysed with Structural Equation Modeling (AMOS 20.0). The findings of the study explained that both the individual differences (proactive personality and emotional intelligence) and the contextual factors (perceived organizational support, servant leadership and meaningful work) have a positive relationship with PsyCap. The impact of PsyCap on teacher performance can form the basis for further research on the subject. JEL Codes: M12, M53 2021 XLRI Jamshedpur, School of Business Management & Human Resources. -
The effect of servant leadership on ad hoc schoolteachers affective commitment and psychological well-being: The mediating role of psychological capital
Progress on the fourth United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG4), which strives to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education, can only be made with teachers whose levels of job satisfaction and dedication to teaching are high. The authors of this article conducted a survey among ad hoc teachers (also referred to as para teachers) in rural India. The purpose of their study was to find out the extent to which being led by principals who practised a management style termed servant leadership positively impacted respondents affective commitment and psychological well-being. A servant leader seeks to serve by developing the followers selfhood in various relational, ethical, emotional and spiritual contexts. This has the effect of encouraging the followers to become the best version of themselves. Data collection involved the completion of a questionnaire by a sample of 1,120 (840 female, 280 male) para teachers from 17 non-formal community learning centres and 10 schools in the Indian state of Jharkhand. The results of the survey revealed that there is an indirect effect of servant leadership on affective commitment and psychological well-being through a set of three elements, hope, efficacy and resilience, which together amount to a para teachers personal resource of psychological capital. Relying on the findings of their research, the authors suggest that it will be beneficial for Jharkhands Department of Education to implement interventional teacher training programmes which nurture servant leadership among school principals and educational officers and thereby foster psychological capital among para teachers. 2020, UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning and Springer Nature B.V. -

Ecclesiology, piety, and presbyterian and independent polemics during the early years of the english revolution
Religious controversy swept across England during the revolutionary decades of the 1640s and 1650s. Historians have studied the attendant ecclesiological debates meticulously. The piety as practiced by the puritans has also been carefully examined. Yet generally, these two subjects of ecclesiology and piety have been kept as separate compartments of analysis. The plethora of tracts that rolled off the press during the initial years of the 1640s, nevertheless, shows that many contemporary polemicists were keen to tie the two themes together. The Presbyterian and Independent polemicists were no exception. As this article seeks to demonstrate, a common feature of their publications was the belief that their preferred ecclesiastical polity best served the purpose of promoting individual piety and creating a godly society. Thus the Presbyterian and Independent conflict waged not only over issues of ecclesiology proper such as categories of church offices and of governing councils or composition of church membership to which historians have directed their attention hitherto, but also over questions of how ecclesiology affected piety. Such conflict was a reflection of the commitment of Presbyterians and Independents to their respective vision of reformation for the country. More broadly, this article shows a facet of religious controversy that ultimately led to the disintegration of the godly community and weakened the base of support for the Commonwealth and the Protectorate. Exploring the Role of Multi-Catalytic Sites in an Amorphous Co-W-B Electrocatalyst for Hydrogen and Oxygen Evolution Reactions
Amorphous materials are used in multitude of catalytic applications, including electrocatalytic water-splitting. Identification and investigation of active sites in amorphous catalysts are rarely reported, mainly owing to the complexity of the systems. Herein, we report an amorphous bifunctional Co-W-B electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The optimized Co-W-B catalyst showed promising overpotential values of 97 mV (HER) and 292 mV (OER), respectively, to achieve 10 mA cm-2 in 1 M KOH, with good stability. The promoting effect of W in Co-B was investigated experimentally, while computational tools were used to identify all the possible catalytic sites in an amorphous Co-W-B model and classify the most preferred sites for HER and OER. The presence of multi-catalytic sites with specific selectivity toward HER and OER was observed, which explained the bifunctional activity of Co-W-B. This study will foster better understanding of the origin of catalytic activity in similar amorphous systems. 2023 The Authors. Published by American Chemical Society. -
Theoretical insights into the role of nanoclusters in anticancer drug delivery systems
The present investigation focuses on the adsorption of Deguelin and Raloxifene, two potential anticancer drugs, on beryllium oxide (Be12O12) and magnesium oxide (Mg12O12) nanoclusters using advanced computational approaches. The pristine nanoclusters are first optimized for their structural and electronic properties, revealing unique geometric and electronic characteristics that influence their interaction with the drug molecules. Various initial configurations are explored to identify the most stable adsorption sites, with adsorption energies (Eads) indicating significant interactions between the drug molecules and the nanoclusters. The adsorption on Mg12O12 nanoclusters displays chemisorption behavior with higher Eads values, whereas Be12O12 nanoclusters exhibit physisorption, implying a weaker yet stable interaction. Furthermore, electronic structure analysis, including density of states (DOS) and HOMO-LUMO gap evaluations, indicated that drug adsorption alters the electronic properties of the nanoclusters, particularly for Be12O12, where a notable reduction in the band gap is observed. These findings suggest that Be12O12 and Mg12O12 nanoclusters hold promise as effective carriers for Deguelin and Raloxifene, offering insights into their potential application in targeted drug delivery systems. 2025 Elsevier B.V. -

Impactful Micro-moments for Deep Learning in Higher Education Classrooms: A Whole-person Education Perspective
The context within which higher education operates has undergone rapid changes in the past few decades. These changes, necessitated by a brittle, anxious, non-linear and incomprehensible (BANI) world, have made the inculcation of 21st-century skills and adoption of a competency-based curriculum increasingly relevant. This chapter addresses these shifts in higher education and their challenges for faculty members and students. The authors focus on in-class pedagogical practices which can be adopted in light of the changes in what is learnt and how it is learnt. The best teacherstudent learning sessions are those that create lasting learning outcomes. This chapter draws from positive psychology concepts and highlights the importance of creating intentional macro- and micro-moments in learning spaces. As educators, crafting deliberately planned moments can make learning more experiential, quick and long-lasting. Though micro-moments can be unstructured and unscripted, the authors focus on those micro-moments that are deliberate and carefully planned to help nurture creativity, mindfulness and organisational commitment. They can be used to echo and reinforce the larger vision of the programme or the institution. By leveraging micro-moments, educators can create opportunities for continuous learning, self-reflection and personal growth beyond the traditional classroom setting. This chapter examines the role of micro-moments in enhancing cognitive, emotional, social and ethical dimensions of student development through deep learning. 2026 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Superstitious Beliefs: Demographic Correlates and Its Relation with Self Efficacy
People from every culture exhibit superstitious beliefs and behaviours in large numbers. The superstitious concepts that are ingrained in Indian culture are highly diverse and may not be similar to those found in Western civilizations. In India, there has only recently begun and there is very little research in this field. The sample for the study was selected using a convenient sampling method. The study followed a quantitative approach within a positivistic paradigm. The research is aimed at establishing a relation among the demographic correlates of superstitions as well as its relation with self-efficacy. The participants were chosen from a larger group of individuals 1778 who lived in the South Indian states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka and various demographic correlates of superstitions in India were analysed. The tools used for evaluation include the General self-efficacy scale (Schwarzer & Jersalem, 1995) and the Superstitious Belief Scale. Demographic correlates of superstitious beliefs indicate differences based on age, gender, religion, education, and geographic location. Superstitious beliefs were found prevalent in various demographics and demonstrated an inverse relationship with self-efficacy. Impact of Urban Environmental Quality, Residential Satisfaction, and Personality on Quality of Life among Residents of Delhi/NCR
Environmental quality and Sustainability seek to preserve, enhance and protect our environmental resources that directly aim at providing an amicable quality of life and sustainable development for the upcoming generations. Considering the hazardous environmental urban quality in Delhi NCR, air pollution is the topmost factor deteriorating health of the population in general. The urban air database by WHO reports Delhi exceeding the maximum PM10 limit by almost 10-times at 292 ?g/m3. Noticing that an individual's surroundings have an enormous value in human lives, the study aimed at understanding the impact of urban environmental quality, residential satisfaction, and personality on the quality of life among residents of Delhi NCR. In addition, we also track the environmental worldviews to attitudes on pro-environmental behavior in understanding sustainability. The results from the SEM model indicated that one index rise in RESS lead to a fall in quality of life by 0.029-point value whereas one index rise in personality could enhance the quality of life by 0.15-point value. Pro-Environmental Behaviors and Urban Environmental factors did not showcase any significant impact on the quality of life. The Electrochemical Society. -
Air Quality Index, Personality Traits and Their Impact on the Residential Satisfaction and Quality of Life: An Exploratory Path Analysis Model
The environment directly influences the behaviour, experiences, and also the well-being of people. It is not only the outside environment but the indoor environmental quality (IEQ) that also affects the well-being of its residents (Arif et al., 2016). The objective of the present study is to study the relationship between Air Quality Index (AQI), Personality traits, Residential Satisfaction, and quality of life among participants living in Bengaluru, Chennai, and Delhi NCR. A total of 685 residents aged 18-65, living in Bengaluru, Chennai, and Delhi NCR for over 2 years, who responded to the call for participation were selected for the study. Data was collected through online Google forms. Correlation and regression analysis were carried out to understand the strength and direction of the relationship between study variables. SPSS AMOS was used to estimate the measurement model and capture mediation paths. The results present an exploratory model which identifies air quality index and personality traits and their contribution towards the perceptions of residential satisfaction. The study also establishes a link between residential satisfaction and quality of life, the new ecological paradigm, and the dominant social paradigm. Measures of superstitious beliefs: A meta-analytic review of research
Superstition is a term which is widely used across the globe but, is understood differently by people from different cultures. Superstitious beliefs are challenged by emerging scientific knowledge, and they continue to persist even among advanced societies. In recent years, superstitions are viewed as a belief in luck. The instruments that are available to assess this phenomenon are few and have insufficient psychometric properties. There is a need for developing new standardised measures which explore the complex, conceptual nature of superstitions. A meta-analysis of existing literature was done to explore the existing measures of superstitious beliefs and to examine the relationship between reliability of scales and the various attributes of scales. A literature search was conducted in relevant databases. Suitable transformation procedures for coefficient alpha were used. Meta-regression analysis was done to explore the heterogeneity of data. 41 scales measuring superstitions were analysed. Results indicate that reliability coefficients were from heterogeneous samples. Regression analysis revealed that few characteristics of scales predicted reliability. Development and validation of superstitious beliefs scale
Superstitions though considered as irrational beliefs are widely prevalent in all cultures. Most of the existing work on superstitions are predominantly based on traditional western beliefs. The relevance of established superstition scales which are developed in western societies in collective societies need to explored. Interdependent nature of self which is a characteristic of collectivistic culture also has a role in belief formation. The present study aims at developing a new self-report measure of superstitious beliefs scale. Study 1, focused on exploring the factor structure and establishing reliability over a sample of 338 undergraduate students. The 17-item Superstitious Belief Scale (SBS) developed distinguishes a six-factor structure namely, Popular Beliefs, Belief in Good Luck, Belief in Bad Luck, Personal Superstitions and Social Superstitions. The six-factor structure was evaluated on a new sample (N = 483) using confirmatory factor analysis in Study 2. The internal consistency values of the new SBS over Studies 1 and 2 indicated high reliability. The findings have important implications for existing theory on superstitions. The new framework proposes and demonstrates the need to base the understanding of measurement of superstitious beliefs relevant in India. AesthetixMS 2020.
