Forensic applications of graphene oxide
Forensic analysis is an enormous field comprising the detection of various types of samples. The objective of forensic evidence examination is to provide a cohesive, transparent, and unbiased judgment of the evidence's significance to the investigators. Graphene oxide (GO) is an abundant substance that comprises carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen in a single layer making it highly economical. Therefore, the utilization of GO is highly considered for achieving the detection and analysis of various substrates. This can be justified by its facile and economical preparation that contributes to improving its significance and applicability. Forensic samples include trace elements that can be pre-concentrated with the help of a sustainable medium provided by GO. This book chapter aims to provide exciting insights into the synthesis, properties, and applications of GO in the detection of various forensic samples of GO. 2024 -
Forensic Investigation Approaches of DNA Analysis and Criminal Investigation
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) has been a significant factor in the criminal justice system since it was first used in forensic investigations. The reference sample's DNA profile is typically compared to the DNA profile from the evidence sample from the crime scene criminal cases. Familial DNA analysis can identify a person and provide significant investigation leads even without a reference sample for comparison in a criminal investigation process. The potential source of a forensic biological sample is determined using several indirect database searching techniques. These DNA-based techniques include Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) analysis, investigative genetic genealogy (IGG), familial searching, and Y-STR database searching. This study examined these methods and compares them in terms of searching efficiency, database structures, searching methods, genotyping technologies, data security, data quality, and costs. It also raises several possible legal and privacy problems for scientists to consider further. The significance of familial DNA analysis, the procedures used for finding and identifying relatives using familial DNA, and its benefits in forensics are all covered in this paper. Additionally, future options for the appropriate application of this technology and social, legal, and ethical concerns related to familial DNA analysis have been considered. 2023 WITPress. Forensic toxicological and analytical aspects of carbamate poisoning A review
Pesticides play a pivotal role in modern agricultural practices and effective domestic pest control. Despite their advantages, pesticides pose a great danger to humans and animals due to their toxicity. Pesticides, particularly carbamates, are extensively used all over the world in crop protection and domestic pest control, however, also causing morbidity and mortality on a larger scale, which is of great significance in both clinical and criminal justice management.Carbamates are derived from a carbamic acid (NH2COOH) that are commonly used as insecticides. Ethienocarb, Sevin, Carbaryl, Fenoxycarb, Furadan, Carbofuran, Aldicarb, and 2-(1-Methylpropyl) phenyl N-methylcarbamate are examples of insecticides that include the carbamate functional group. By reversibly inactivating the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, these insecticides can induce cholinesterase inhibition poisoning.Chromatographic methods, notably gas and liquid chromatography have traditionally been employed to analyse carbamate pesticides and their metabolites in various matrices. These approaches are employed due to their ability to separate the chemicals contained in a sample; as well as identify and quantify these compounds utilizing advanced detection systems. Aside from these GC and LC conventional methods, other detection and/or hyphenated techniques such as single-quadrupole, ion-trap, triple-quadrupole, or tandem mass spectrometry, have been used in carbamate analysis to provide quick results with excellent sensitivity, precision, and accuracy. The objective of this review is to describe various analytical techniques used to detect and determine carbamate pesticides in various matrices which include urine, blood, and tissues that are commonly encountered in emergency hospital laboratories and forensic science laboratories. 2022 Elsevier Ltd and Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine -
Forest Fire Prediction Using Machine Learning and Deep Learning Techniques
Forests are considered synonyms for abundance on our planet. They uphold the lifecycle of a diversity of creatures, including mankind. Destruction of such forests due to environmental hazards like forest fires is disastrous and leads to loss of economy, wildlife, property, and people. It endangers everything in its vicinity. Sadly, the presence of flora and fauna only increase the fire spread capability and speed. Early detection of these forest fires can help control the spread and protect the nearby areas from the damage caused. This research paper aims at predicting the occurrence of forest fires using machine learning and deep learning techniques. The idea is to apply multiple algorithms to the data and perform comparative analysis to find the best-performing model. The best performance is obtained by the decision tree model for this work. It gave an accuracy of 79.6% and a recall score of 0.90. This model was then implemented on front-end WebUI using the flask and pickle modules in Python. The front-end Website returns the probability that a forest fire occurs for a set of inputs given by the user. This implementation is done using the PyCharm IDE. 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. -
Forex Analysis on USD to INR Conversion: A Comparative Analysis of Multiple Statistical and Machine Learning Algorithms
Foreign Currency Exchange (FOREX) engages a major role in world economy and the international market. It is a vast study based on determining whether or not to wait, buy or sell on a trading currency pair. The main objective is to predict the future currency prices using historical data in order to make more informed and accurate investment decisions for business traders and monetary market. This work experimented and implements ten machine learning strategies namely Random Forest, Decision Tree, Support vector regressor (SVM), Linear SVM, Linear Regression, Ridge, Lasso, K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) to assess the historical data and help the traders to invest in foreign currency exchange. The dataset used to validate and verify the machine learning algorithms is available in public domain and it is the daily Foreign Currency Exchange price of United States Dollars (USD) to Indian Rupees (INR). The experimented result shows that the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model performs a bit better than the other machine learning models for this particular case. This work straight away does not reject the other methods it rather needs more experimental analysis with other models that has changed architecture and different dataset. 2024 IEEE. -
Forgiving Behavior among Emerging Adults: The Influence of Religiosity and Spirituality and Personality Traits
The present study aims to examine the three important aspects of emerging adulthood, religiosity and spirituality, personality traits, and forgiveness which bring well-being benefits. It is hypothesized that religiosity and spirituality along with personality traits predict forgiveness among emerging adults. The Neo Five-Factor Inventory (NEO FFI), the Religiosity and Spirituality Scale for Youth (RaSSY), and the Heartland Forgiveness Scale (HFS) were administered to 364 female and 390 male emerging adults (n = 754; mean age = 21 years, SD = 14.88) selected through purposive sampling technique from colleges in Bangalore. Data were analyzed using correlational and hierarchical regression analysis. This study found that religiosity and spirituality and the Big Five personality traits positively correlated with forgiveness whereas all personality traits, except neuroticism, strongly predicted forgiveness more than religiosity and spirituality. These findings suggest that faith-based coping and religious social support in combination with personality traits help emerging adults practice forgiveness in their daily life, leading to further insight into the theories of forgiveness and well-being. 2023 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. -
Formal banks, semi-formal SHGs or informal moneylenders, who is better? a study of borrower credit preference in India
The present study explores the factors driving borrowers preference for formal banks, self-help groups (SHGs) and moneylenders. The study is based on a systematic survey of 839 rural borrowers from southern India, sampled from four districts with varied levels of credit access (surplus, constrained and moderate credit). The data was analysed using multinomial logistic regression in SPSS. Results show how banks and moneylenders exclude borrowers based on relative wealth and gender. SHGs service women borrowers but are preferred more by wealthier borrowers, highlighting intragroup inequalities. Yet, the three lenders service a variety of purposes, justifying their demand in the market. The study enhances understanding of rural borrowers constraints concerning various credit sources. The implications of this study are as follows: one is identifying the lacunae in the formal banking system, which policy amendments could address. Two, the study recommends an investigation of intragroup inequalities within SHGs. Third, the study underscores the demand for multiple players in the rural credit markets and their contribution to the borrowers credit needs. (2024), (Indian Academy of Sciences). Formant frequency estimation of artificial larynx transducer speech using recurrent neural network
Human Beings communicate with each other by speaking. The speech as a signal has 2 components voiced and unvoiced speech. Voiced speech is produced by the excitation produced at glottis and unvoiced is produced by noise created at the mouth. The voiced components that is produced at glottis passes through the vocal tract and then reach the mouth. The nature of the speech is determined mostly at the vocal tract. But for some reason for some people the speech produced is not proper because of the organ problems or motor disorder issue. In these cases, the speech produced is called disordered speech and termed with the names like stammering, apraxia, dysar-theria and so on. In some case, the larynx is removed from human body because of cancer or other issues. For them, Artificial Larynx Transducer (ALT) is given to produce substitution voice. This paper aims at formant frequency estimation of the speech produced with the help of ALT using Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) method. The speech produced with the help of ALT will lack in naturalness and intelligibility. The direct noise coming from ALT device is called DREL noise. This also creates irritability to the listener. So in this paper, a method is proposed for the DREL noise removal and formant frequency estimation of the ALT speech. 2019, Institute of Advanced Scientific Research, Inc.. All rights reserved. -

Formation of Positive Organizational Climate: Integration of Ubuntu Diversity Management in Banks
A positive organizational climate requires incorporating the notion of Ubuntu into workforce diversity management. Ubuntu in the banking business is essential for improved workforce diversity management and a better workplace climate for women. Employees look for a healthy and positive organizational climate in their workplace settings. Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa are ideal examples of Ubuntu; they lived a life of selflessness and humanity. In todays competitive world, the concept of Ubuntu is not widely accepted in banking. Banks are vying for new customers, market share, and business loans. Bank services include credit card processing, reconciliation and reporting, cheque collection; payroll; and deposit. They do not have time to think about Ubuntu. The banking sectors operations are tedious, causing tension among employees. Stress is lethal in COVID-19. Using various literature reviews, this study shows how stress can be lethal during COVID-19. Globally, the value system of Ubuntu and Gandhian ideologies are abandoned in favour of monetary gain, resulting in a cruel society. Violence against minority discrimination and black oppression still prevails in our society. Suppression and tyranny have always existed, but COVID-19 triples their impact. One solution is to bring forth Ubuntu. Even if it is too late, we can still revive our society. With Africas great diversity, fostering unity is the key to peace and growth. The best way to achieve peace and progress is to employ Ubuntus values. One continent, one philosophy could be a way out for Africa, but it would necessitate contributions from all African leaders. 2022. Journal of International Womens Studies. -
FORMATION OF REDDY IDENTITY IN SOUTHERN KARNATAKA 1900-2000 CE
Reddy is the name of a socio-economically and politically dominant community found in Southern India. Today one of the largest single community grouping in south India in general and Andhra Pradesh in particular is Reddy community. They are generally considered traditional village headmen. They had a remarkable history since the period of shatavahanas of 2nd century BCE and the various people from this community have helped people in large way throughout the period and they are socially committed and economically enterprise. Historically the people of the Reddy community had appears some were very wealthy Landowners and Businessmen. Famous Kings, Awardees, Academics, Scientists & Civil Servants, Business Leaders & Entrepreneurs, famous Politicians, Entertainers & Film Professionals, Freedom Fighters, Activists & Philanthropists, Poets and Writers and many more. Though the community regarded their ancestors belongs Andhra Pradesh Telugu as their mother tongue, they assimilated with the regional culture of Karnataka and became proficient in Kannada language too. The community played major role in political arena and became one among the makers of modern Karnataka. Since 1900 their Political identity was expressed through political associations, Freedom movement, and backward class movement and pressurizing for establishment responsible government in Mysore region. Socially the community has been identified as an important caste in south India. The marriage ceremony is sanctified through the authorization of Brahmana, Dasayya. The community has the complex setup within itself because they are in large number. They have peculiar social practices of the appreciation of Brahmanical ideas and process of sankritization is rooted in the original beliefs of Reddy community, The Practice of bride price, widow remarriage, the Brahmin priest not invite to their marriage occasion by some sub castes and many more. The community extended its liberal attitude towards improving the status of women has resulted in arising of many women as industrialists, artists, scientists, physicians, realtors, sports persons and scholars. Economically they are committed to land and agriculture. Culturally the community has predominant followers of the Hinduism with Veerashaiva, Vaishnava and Shaktha sects as the most important faiths. Their annual pilgrimage is to the temple of Shrishaila Mallikarjuna. Yogi VemanaReddy and HemaReddy Mallama were as the legends. The Brahmanical idenitity is not observed and accepted by all denomination of Reddys. The ??Guru Paramapare also exists among the Reddy communities. Each sub caste has to pay their homage to their respective Gurus, who preside over the Matha. The festivals celebrated by the community like Bandi Devara Habba and Makkala Dyavaru are the most specific ones. It has to be accepted as liberation from some hierarchical control and assertion of a community attempting to carve a certain niche status which resulted in a form of monastic tradition or Gurupeeta tradition since the last two decade in Karnataka. Being the promoters of education and literature they established schools, colleges, training centers, hostels and study centers. They are socially advanced, economically developed, politically organized and culturally established. Thus they become influential factor in formation of social-political-economic identity in southern Karnataka. -
