Biomass Derived Fluorescent Nanocarbon Sensor for Effective Sensing of Toxic Cadmium Metal Ions
Cadmium ion (Cd2+) is common in our surroundings and may readily bioaccumulate into the organism following passage through the respiratory and digestive systems. Chronic exposure to Cd2+ can lead to considerable bioaccumulation in an organism because of its longer biological high life (1030 years), which permanently harms the health of humans and animals. Considering this hazardous effect of toxic Cd2+ metal ions, there is a need to develop a toxic-free and simple sensor synthesized from easily available and biocompatible biomass or natural precursor. Herein we report the effective synthesis and development of a fluorescence sensor from Indigofera tinctoria (L.), a well-known medicinal plant via one step green, hydrothermal synthesis method. The remarkable fluorescence and larger stokes shift make it ideal for fluorescence sensing strategy. This sensor detects potentially toxic Cd2+ assisting fluorescence sensing strategy in the metal ion concentration range from 1 nM to 1 M. Intelligent Safety Life Jacket Using Wsn Technology
The body loses heat in hypothermia because it cannot maintain its internal temperature owing to a freezing environment. As a result, the body temperature will decrease rapidly. The person will lose consciousness or faint when the body temperature falls below 35C. This study targets detecting climbers' hypothermia and transmitting their health status to the climber's group. It is difficult for mountain climbers to check their health and hypothermia symptoms for themselves and their climbing companions. To address this issue, we created a life jacket with an integrated hardware kit with a Peltier, temperature, and pulse sensor. LoRa Network is used to communicate with the climber's group. Alert messages are delivered to mountaineers via the Android app and suitable protocols, which helps save the climbers if any discrepancies occur. 2023 IEEE. -
Propensity Score Matching and a Difference in Difference Approach to Assess ESGs Influence on Indian Acquirer Performance
This research involves an in-depth analysis of the intricate relationship between Environmental, Social, and Governance scores and the financial and operational performance of Indian acquirers. The research methodology employed herein entails a meticulously crafted design, incorporating a blend of the Propensity Score Matching and Difference-in-Differences model. This strategic amalgamation serves to rigorously assess the impact of ESG factors on the performance outcomes of Indian acquirers involved in M&As. The empirical findings of this study reveal a robust and statistically significant correlation between M&A endeavours and ESG considerations. Notably, the research discerns that M&A activities tend to exert an adverse influence on ESG performance metrics within the Indian corporate landscape. Child safety gadget with home security
The Child Safety Gadget Home Security System introduces the initial five iterations of a technologically advanced system that addresses child safety and home security concerns by integrating innovative subsystems. We started with a primary password and incremented towards advanced functionality like a camera for visual verification, a lock mechanism for entry security, and finally, app integration. Finally, we extend the system with additional capabilities to fully implement security solutions based on features like an OLED display and sensors. The concealed pseudo-passcode alert system, which wrists parents up in emergencies to respond quickly, is central to our system. The Intersectionality of Social Exclusion and International Comparison: Rethinking the Methodological Nuances
This chapter foregrounds the methodological considerations involved in a cross-national comparison of qualitative data on social exclusion and marginalization. Drawing on the possibilities of intersectional multilevel analysis in Indian and Swiss contexts, the chapter further discusses the nuances of juxtaposing these data. It follows attempts by a Swiss-Indian research team to study how marginalization involves multiple intersectionalities that operate simultaneously. It aims to capture the experiences of migrant workers in India and people without legal residency status in Switzerland during the COVID-19 lockdown, placing them against the cultural histories, social structures, and state interventions. Using intersectionality, the study explores how structures of exclusion operate at multiple levels of subjectivity and, through epistemic violence, naturalize social inequalities. The project attempts to identify how they are still being rendered invisible and their miseries normalized, invoking the impression that it is perpetual. Cross-border research becomes significant in the context of internationalization and globalization, and the chapter discusses the issues and the promises of such a comparison. Beyond the cultural boundaries and differences and the conceptual-methodological incongruities, we argue that the comparison can illuminate how power relations operate at multiple levels in different contexts, reproducing and normalizing discriminatory mechanisms. Low-Profile Metasurface-Integrated Ultra-Wideband Antenna with Enhanced Gain
In this paper a metamaterial-integrated compact antenna is proposed, and the design, simulation, and implementation are presented which works in Ultra-Wideband frequency (UWB) range. The FR4 substrate has been used to design a compact, flexible, wearable antenna. Metamaterial structure comprises of periodic arrangement of unit cells termed as metasurface, to achieve higher gain. The proposed integrated antenna exhibits maximum gain of 8.1 dBi with overall dimensions of 50 mm 40 mm. Also, the gain enhancement of 3.2 dBi along with 0.2 GHz increment in bandwidth is observed after adding the metamaterial array. Metamaterial Integrated Patch Antenna Design with Enhanced Gain for WLAN and WIMAX Applications
In this paper a dual-band high gain metamaterial antenna is designed using RT Duroid 5880 with overall size of 50 60 mm2 and thickness of 1.64 mm. A rectangular patch antenna with two slots is designed to operate at 3.5 and 5.8GHz for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) and Wireless local area network (WLAN) applications. Further, to enhance the gain characteristics of patch antenna, a reflective metasurface (RMS) is designed on FR-4 substrate, which is placed as a superstrate above the antenna. The metasurface used as superstrate is placed at the air gap of 15 mm to achieve optimum gain and bandwidth. It is observed that the proposed metamaterial integrated antenna shows enhanced gain of 6.5 and 7.73 dBi at both the resonant frequencies. Fast Fashion Brands: Sustainable Marketing Practices and Consumer Purchase Behaviour; [Blagovne znamke hitre mode: trajnostne trne prakse in nakupovalno vedenje potronikov]
The fast fashion boom is faced with economic, environmental and social justice objections. Sustainable marketing initiatives have become a new style statement, and brands are shifting to environment-friendly manufacturing. This study explores how fashion apparel brands adopt sustainable marketing practices to promote sustainable purchase behaviour. A cross-sectional survey using a quantitative research design was followed to collect responses from fashion brand consumers. Variance-based partial least squares-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was used to assess the hypothesized model. Two-step bootstrapping was conducted to explore the mediating role of brand perception in the relationship between sustainable marketing activity and brand loyalty. The study suggests that firms can support sustainable marketing practices by creating a brand image and building trust. This can influence consumers' perceptions of sustainability and promote brand loyalty. The study also emphasizes the significance of brand loyalty in developing sustainable purchase behaviour that endures over time. Sustainable Marketing Initiatives and Consumer Perception of Fast Fashion Brands
The fast fashion industry has been criticized for negatively impacting the economy, environment, and social justice. Consequently, many brands adopt sustainable marketing practices to promote eco-friendly manufacturing and encourage sustainable purchase behaviour. To explore this trend, a cross-sectional survey was conducted among fashion brand consumers using a quantitative research design. The survey data was analyzed using variance-based partial least squares-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). The results showed that sustainable marketing practices can be supported by creating a positive brand image and building trust. Such practices can positively influence consumers' perception of sustainability and promote brand loyalty, which can lead to sustainable purchasing behaviour. Twitter Sentiment Analysis and Emotion Detection Using NLTK and TextBlob
On an average, approximately 7000 tweets are communicated each second and in total it piles up to around 300 billion tweets every year. Society are free to contribute their opinions on public platform and hence it acts as a reliable interface to assess society ongoing viewpoint and attitude over any matter or event. Consumers very often make use of social media to exchange their views about anything. Business may get domain for enhancement and smooth interpretation of the behavior of people regarding various facts through opinion mining. Thus to carry out this mining of opinions on social media interface, textual categorization with language analysis is of great help. With the help of NLP token tool, phrases can be divided into various word series after dropping stop phrases. Larger tweets tokenizing and classifying into distinct labels is a concern. Thus, the main objective of this framework is to process the tweets based on specific keywords given by user, categorize these phrases into negative, positive and neutral ones. TextBlob module assists users and developers to interpret user sentiments about a news. Emotional intelligence and self esteem in cannabis abusers
This study was taken up to investigate emotional intelligence and self esteem in cannabis abusers. Cross sectional hospital based study, Study is based on a sample of 200 individuals. 100 Cannabis dependent, diagnosed based on DSM-IV TR was selected from two different hospitals in north India. 100 healthy matched subjects constituted the control group. Assessment was done using MINI, General Health Questionnaire, Indian Adaptation of Emotional Intelligence Scale and Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale. Significant differences were seen in Emotional Intelligence between the Cannabis dependent group and normal control group. The cannabis dependent groups scored significantly low on emotional intelligence in comparison with control group. Further, cannabis dependent group scored significantly lower on score of self esteem than the normal control group. Relationship between emotional intelligence and self esteem was found to be positively correlated. Our study suggests an association between low emotional intelligence, low self esteem and cannabis dependence and the prevention and treatment of cannabis dependence should lay focus on these factors. A Study on the Influence of Geometric Transformations on Image Classification: A Case Study
The present research work involves the study of the geometrical transformations which influences the training and validation accuracies of machine learning models. For the study, rice plant leaf disease dataset of 2096 images consisting of 4 classes with 523 images per class were used. The dataset subjected to 24 models out of which three models namely - DenseNet201, Densenet169 and InceptionResNetV2 are selected based on highest training accuracy and less difference between training and validation accuracy. Navigating Financial Decisions: A Review on the Impact of Spousal Loss on Widows during Uncertainties
Emotional setbacks and theloss of identity are commonly seen as the primary outcomes of spousal loss for widows. However, are these the only factors that impact widows in their new phase of life? Certainly not; many other invisible factors may hinder the livelihood of a widow and their surviving family during the phase of bereavement. This study aims to address one such important factor by analysing various literature available in related areas, specifically focusing on the financial aspects of widowhood, which cannot be avoided by the surviving family even prior to, during, and the later stage of bereavement. An integrated review method is adopted to support the aim of the study. Four major themes have emerged from the review, reflecting significant dimensions of finance. Each theme isfound to be interrelated with others, highlighting the challenges faced, decisions made, and outcomes experienced by the widows during widowhood. A conceptual model has been developed depicting the factors that influence the financial behaviour of widows. The findings of this study emphasise the need for future research to explore widows financial dimensions during the widowhood phase in underdeveloped and developing nations where deprivation is alarming. The implications can lead women to participate actively in household decisions to resist financial adversities during lifes uncertainties. Gender Differences In Health Habits And Psychological Well- Being Among Early Adults
The concept of health is both complex and important. Health and its importance is one of the universally recognized concepts. The aim of the study was to explore the gender differences among early adults with regard to their health habits and their psychological well-being. Total sample consisted of 100 participants of whom 50 were men and 50 were women. The sampling technique used was random sampling. The age range was 18 -25 years. Health promoting lifestyle profile (HPLP), developed by Walker, Sechrist & Pender (1982). It includes both health-protecting (preventive) behaviors that decrease risk for illness and health-promoting behaviors that sustain or increase well-being, self-actualization and personal fulfillment. Health Behavior checklist was developed by the researcher to understand the patterns of health behavior on the dimensions of nutrition, physical activity, medical care, alcohol consumption, smoking and dieting and PGI General well Being Measure (PGI GWBM) Psychological well-being- PGI GWBM (English Version) by S.K Verma and A.Verma was used to assess the psychological wellbeing of early adults. This is a twenty item simplified test to measure positive mental health. Results showed that there are no gender differences in health habits among early adults. There were gender differences in psychological well-being among early adults. Correlation between health habits and psychological well-being was not observed. The results from the analysis of the checklist indicate some differences between men and women; more men were involved in external physical activity than women and women seemed to be not worried about their health and not visiting hospitals for checkups than men. Stress has become a household term today irrespective of age, gender and vocation. The demands of fast paced life, advancement of technology and science have made the world complicated and more sophisticated to live in. In order to effectively manage and wade through uncertainty, challenges and competition, managing stress and coping becomes mandatory. Coping is an effective way to counter and manage the stressful situations. The present study is a review of how the psychological, neural and immunological systems interact together in perception of stress as well as in coping with the stressor. The chapter ideates that interventions would result in more effective coping practices if they were simulated in advance, tailored to individual need and utilizing various digital platforms. Assessment of mutagenicity caused by popular baby foods and baby plastic-ware products: An imperative study using microbial bioassays and migration analysis
Specialized products for infants have become every parent's first choice. Although these products claim to be safe and mild for infant use, yet there is a need to monitor them using different tools for mutagenicity detection to ensure further safety. In this study, a range of popular ready to eat and powdered baby foods, formula milk powders and attractive plasticware for infants were picked from the Indian market and tested for their mutagenicity using two microbial bioassays based on Salmonella typhimurium, viz., Ames bacterial reversion assay and fluctuation assay. Furthermore, chemical migration analysis was done on the most toxic baby food and baby plasticware samples as shown by the bioassays to detect possible leaching of Bisphenol a (BPA), lead and Di-2 ethyl hexyl phthalate (DEHP). It was surprising to find that the products made for the most risk-prone group in the society, i.e., infants have a significant potential to cause mutagenicity. 2018 Elsevier Inc. -
Skincare Products as Sources of Mutagenic Exposure to Infants: An Imperative Study Using a Battery of Microbial Bioassays
Infant skin is highly absorptive and sensitive to exposure from external agents (microbes, toxicants, heat, cold, etc.). Many specialized infant skincare products are currently commercially available. Although the manufacturers claim that their products are mild enough to suit the infant skin, these products need to be studied for their safety. Using animal models to examine the safety of the ever-increasing number of skincare products is not economically or logistically feasible. To overcome this problem, we suggest using a battery of microbial bioassays as a robust system for monitoring the mutagenic potential of skincare products. We picked popular infant skincare products from the Indian market and assessed them by using a battery of three microbial mutagenicity bioassays. Most of them showed significant and reproducible mutagenic potential. This research paper tries to find if customers give importance to sustainability related factors and if these factors can be advertised by the e-retailers. The paper tries to find if this will have an impact on the customer purchase decisions from the e retailers.
