Nanostructured Carbon-Coated Barium Ferrite for Efficient Cr(VI) Adsorption: Synthesis and Performance Evaluation
The study reports the synthesis of nanostructured carbon-coated barium ferrite via a combined in-situ pyrolysis and co-precipitation approach. The resulting material was characterized using XRD, TEM, and BET analysis, confirming its nanostructure and high surface area. The adsorbent demonstrated efficient removal of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) from aqueous solutions, achieving up to 92% removal under optimal conditions. Adsorption followed a multilayer process with pseudo-second-order kinetics, and the material retained significant efficiency over six reuse cycles. These findings highlight the potential of carbon-coated barium ferrite as a promising adsorbent for water purification applications. 2025 Wiley-VCH GmbH. -
Nanostructured ZnCo2S4@metal organic frameworks composite for supercapacitor by ultrasonication supported hydrothermal reaction
Electrode materials for supercapacitors, sensors, and battery applications were frequently manufactured using the chemistry of metal organic framework nanostructured materials. These materials have three-dimensional networks between organic linkers and metal precursors thanks to diverse chemical alterations. Due to their enhanced surface characteristics, porous nature, and strong connecting organic molecules for numerous possible applications, MOFs have a wide range of uses. In this study, we used a sonicated enhanced hydrothermal reaction to fabricate ZnCo2S4 and ZnCo2S4 on the metal organic framework composite materials. Raman, FTIR, XRD, XPS, SEM, and SEM-EDS tests were utilized to confirm the composite's structural and morphological features. With 1 M KOH electrolyte, composite electrodes for supercapacitor fabrication were produced. The composite electrodes have a stability under cycles count of 5000 and a capacitance of 550 F/g at a density of 1 A/g. 2024 Elsevier B.V. -
Nanotechnological approach in nutraceuticals
Nanonutraceuticals are a fabrication process for extending the food quality and shelf life using nanocomposites for the protection of nutrition supplements in food, which acts as encapsulation against the factors causing spoilage. This chapter discusses the advantages of nanotechnology in food processing, packaging, and post packaging. The use of nanomaterials as ingredients, packaging materials, and for processing packed food imparts better taste, texture, and consistency. Nanotechnology improves the flavor, taste, and has better delivery of culinary balance. Encapsulation in food packaging helps maintain the taste and odor by maintaining the permeability of packaging, food texture, and the matrix, while regulating the specific release of active agents at a specific rate and time. Thus, a nanopackaging delivery system helps maintain the moisture and temperature. Nanovaccinology and superbugs
Superbugs pose a serious threat to humans as many of the currently available antibiotics are not effective in treating the diseases inflicted by these microbes.Among the different bacteria causing clinical infections, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Serratia marcescens, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcusaureus, Proteus mirabilis, and so on, are some of the most vicious ones emergingat an unprecedented rate with huge impact on public health. In this context, prophylacticmeasures for these diseases assume great significance and NVs indeedfit in as a promising measure. Sustained release, improved antigen stability, betterimmunogenicity, better access to lymph nodes and low minimum immunotoxicitytranslates to the better efficacy of nano-based vaccines. Lipid-based NP (nanoparticles),dendrimers, Polymeric NP, self-assembled peptide NP, virus like particles(VLPs), and so on, are the promising NV (nanovaccines) delivery approaches.Improvisations of NVs by decorating NP surfaces with ligands that target specificimmune cells like the dendritic cells is also a promising approach to induce both Tand B cell responses. Narrating 'Devdas' through cinema: A study on characterization and power relations /
Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Bengali romance novel ‘Devdas’ has been adapted into movies for over eight decades, four of which are in Hindi. Many directors have applied their own creativity in order to bring out and present a different Devdas every time they remake the film. This paper tries to analyze the way the movies have changed over the years in relation to the change in characterization and power relations, with narration weaving these parameters together. -
Narrating the City: Calcutta in Raj Kamal Jha???s If You Are Afraid of Heights and The Blue Bedspread
The portrayal of the city in literature is not a recent phenomenon. The city in literature has a history as old as the history of the city itself. This thesis titled ???Narrating the City: Calcutta in Raj Kamal Jha???s If You are Afraid of Heights and The Blue Bedspread??? is an attempt to understand how the city of Calcutta is portrayed in these two novels and how the city affects the people and vice versa. Every narration happens within the coordinates of time and space. Narrative is the representation of movement within the coordinates of time and space. Literary narrative is the literary or semiotic representation of movement within the coordinates of time and space. In the same manner narrating the city is the literary representation of the movement of the city and things in the city both living and non-living within the coordinates of time and space. The introductory chapter places the study in the context analysing the representation of the city in literature. The definition of key concepts and a literature review are done in order to understand the narrative, city and above all the narrating of the city in literature. The second chapter titled ???Calcutta in The Blue Bedspread???, shows how the city of Calcutta is portrayed in the novel The Blue Bedspread. This chapter is divided into different subsections according to the different themes identified. The third chapter titled ???Calcutta in If You are Afraid of Heights??? shows how the city of Calcutta is portrayed in the novel If You are Afraid of Heights. The fourth and the final chapter details the general conclusions derived from the study. Calcutta is narrated differently through these two novels. The Blue Bedspread presents a city of Calcutta which is more of a realistic nature. There is an over emphasis given to the description of the places as the novel is stacked with references to the buildings and places in the city. Thus it becomes a story of the city than the story of a specific person (character) or persons viii (characters). There is a close connection between the city and the people and vice versa. The names of the characters are not mentioned in the novel and this anonymity of the main characters points to the fact that this is a novel about anybody who is influenced by the city, in this case the city of Calcutta. If You are Afraid of Heights is a magic realist portrayal of the city of Calcutta. The characters of the city oscillate between reality and fantasy. This novel is not stacked with references to the places or spaces in the city, even though there are some references to them. The Blue Bedspread is the story of the city being projected through the realistic places and on the other hand If You are Afraid of Heights is the story of the city being projected through the magic realist presentation of the places, spaces and time in the city. -
Narrating Trauma as Victims of Human Trafficking in China: A Study on Select North Korean Memoirs
The memoirs titled In Order to Live; A North Korean Girl's Journey, to Freedom and; A Thousand Miles to Freedom: My Escape from North Korea are written by Yeonmi Park and Eunsun Kim two women who managed to escape from North Korea. They went through an experience of being forced into labour in China as victims of trafficking. In their memoirs these authors vividly depict the pain that comes with being exploited. The main aim of this study is to analyse how memoirs can effectively address the issue of trafficking. These remarkable women skilfully use the memoir genre to make a personal plea for action. They strategically make choices appeal to readers emotions openly share their distressing experiences and support their stories with research and evidence that connect their experiences with the broader problem of human trafficking in China. This study clearly shows that both these memoirs emphasize the importance of the memoir genre in advocating for rights. Narration of Self in the Autobiographies of Augustine of Hippo and Teresa of Avila
This dissertation is a study of narration of self in the autobiographies of Augustine of Hippo and Teresa of Avila. Confessions, the autobiography of Augustine of Hippo, is considered the first organized spiritual autobiography in the Western Europe and The Life of Teresa of Jesus measured as the first spiritual autobiography among women. In the main argument I propose that the self narrated in Confessions is a confessional self and the self narrated in The Life of Teresa of Jesus is an inquisitional self. According to Christian tradition confession is the disclosure of sins to a priest and acknowledging and praising the Holiness of God for his mercy towards a sinful man. In Confessions, Augustine makes a confession to God, to himself, and to the human kind. Augustine narrates a confessional self because all throughout the text we observe a total surrendering of his sins and flaws to God without any justification or argument similar to a confession. The self narrated by Teresa in The Life of Teresa of Jesus, I argue, is an inquisitional self. It is because Teresa has written the autobiography by the command of her confessors. Teresas vision and spiritual ecstasies made a contradiction in the church and predicted that it was from devil. In order to prove the reality and truth it was necessary to submit her life history to the judicial court, which was established as an inquisitional court. Therefore her confessors asked her to write her life story only with the explanation of spiritual favours she received. She was forced to write a life story with many restrictions. Consequently the self narrated in The Life of Teresa of Jesus became an inquisitional self where she hides many incidents of the real life. -
Narrative Therapy with Dalit Female Survivors of Violence
Narrative therapy is an evidence-based therapeutic intervention that can help address trauma experienced by women who have experienced violence. Narrative therapists open up new perspectives for their clients by examining moments of strength, vitality, and autonomy, which are often hidden in stories about oppression, suffering, and marginalization. Dalit women who participated in the research revealed how the stories opened up new possibilities for constructing unique narratives. A multiple case study design was used to elicit the responses of female survivors with severe mental illness to physical, sexual, and psychological abuse perpetrated by Dalit and higher caste men. 2024 Mary Ann Liebert Inc.. Narratives of Substance Users in Rehabilitation Centers: Exploring Usage, Identity, and Recovery
Addiction and Substance use are complicated issues that have a significant impact on a persons identity and social interactions. To gain a thorough understanding of identity construction and the recovery process, this study aimed to investigate the narratives of substance users in the rehabilitation center. Using a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11 participants selected through purposive sampling at a rehabilitation center in Delhi. The data was analyzed using Catherine Riessmans Narrative Analysis. Seven core narratives emerged: Substance as the Main Character, Substance as Air, Nostalgia over Lost Life, Confronting the Reality, Oscillating Recovery, Coexistence of Hope and Despair, and Push and Pull of Support. These narratives illustrate the multifaceted nature of addiction, where substances are not merely consumed but become central to identity, daily existence, and interpersonal relationships. The findings provide insights into the complexities of substance use and recovery by highlighting the constant oscillation between hope and despair in the recovery journey, as well as the ambivalent nature of family and society. The study concludes that substance use cannot be understood solely as a disorder. It often becomes intertwined with an individuals life and narrative. A holistic and humanized approach is necessary to address the personal, familial, and societal factors that influence addiction and recovery. Narratives of the self: Comments and confessions on Facebook
Narratives are structured around events, which are used to tell a story. The self is perpetually being constructed through narratives of experience. This chapter focuses on the phenomenon of Facebook confession pages and how they contribute to the construction of digital identity. Drawing on insights from my project on the role of Facebook College Confession pages, the chapter examines how these platforms have transformed the way users express and shape their identities. The anonymity provided by these pages allows users to post confessions without revealing their identities, encouraging a form of virtual self-exploration. These confessions, often written by nameless authors, generate a complex and ongoing narrative of identity, shaped by the interaction of multiple voices and viewpoints. The chapter also explores the motivations behind sharing personal confessions, even when the responses may be negative, and how this contributes to the perpetual construction of the digital self. By examining the intersection of public and private spheres in these online spaces, this chapter highlights how the breaking of the public-private divide enables users to create and negotiate their identities in a digital, networked world. The narrative constructed is endless, and the post is not an end in itself. It paves the way for the generation of an endless narrative by multiple authors with multiple viewpoints. This chapter explores the reasons behind sharing such posts on Facebook, even if the comments are negative in tone. It will refer to Anthony Giddens' concept of time-space "distanciation" (Keefer et al., 2019) to show how multiple tellers through their narratives help to build the complex networked identity of a user. The study will also analyse the role played by the breaking of the public-private divide in creating such spaces for the construction of a private self through public voices. 2024 Rimi Nandy. -
Narratives on using critical approaches in teacher education
Using the approach of autoethnographic narrative, three teacher educators from a cosmopolitan city in South India discuss how they use critical approaches in preparing preservice teachers and educational psychologists in the courses that they teach at a private university. The students are sensitized about the marginalized and the privileged sections in a multicultural and multilingual nation as India and to become culturally responsive in their classrooms or with their clientele in terms of their dispositions, knowledge, and skills. Narrativising chaos via narrative agency: COVID-19 comics as narrative meta-control
The initial COVID-19 pandemic phase was a period of chaos, instability, and disorder. In this context, this paper explores the narrative potentialities of COVID-19 comics as a means of narrative meta-control over the chaotic nature of the lived pandemic experiences. Meta-control, the act of regaining a sense of agency over a contingent circumstance that is otherwise uncontrollable, offers narrative agency as a means of navigating meaning-making and the reality of chaos. In this paper, This Quarantine Life: A COVID-19 Era Comics Anthology (2020), a global anthology brought forth by the New York Arts Students League, is analysed as a chaos narrative. Interrogating normative understandings of chaos narratives, the paper reframes these comics as spaces of and for narrative resistance, where aesthetic form functions as narrative repair by interrogating its acts of meta-control. Interweaving both conceptual reframing and multimodal discourse analysis, this paper shows how comic artists use narrative strategies of braiding, arthrology, and spatio-topia to work with chaos. In working with chaos, such strategies affirm comics as a narrative agent that helps capture and work through the reality of chaos. Narrativity and the Problematics of Authenticity in Hungry Ghosts by Kevin Jared Hosein
Postcolonial historical fictions, set in turbulent times, grapple with the question of authenticity in their fictional representations of events and individuals of the past. Trinidadian novelist Kevin Jared Hoseins Hungry Ghosts (2023), set in the estate barracks and surrounding milieu of 1940s Trinidad, is no exception. The paper argues for a nuanced understanding of the term authenticity in our reading of historical fictions, and explores Hoseins use of the formal, imaginative and affective dimensions of narration in negotiating representational adequacy and strengthening the significant thematic concerns in the text. Through textual analysis, the paper explores how Hosein situates his text firmly within the spatio-temporal reality of the period and captures the struggles of becoming confronting a population whose lives are coloured by historical trauma and continuing spatial hierarchy. 2024 The Editorial Board, Current Writing. -
Narrowband and Wideband Directional Beamformer with Reduced Side Lobe Level
In this paper, the synthesis of narrow and wideband beamformers with reduced side lobe level and wide beam steering capability is presented. A closed form expression with slope equalization technique is derived for array factor of the beamformer to meet the desired beam-pattern specifications of Half Power Beam-Width (HPBW)and Side Lobe Level (SLL). The proposed beamformer design is adaptable to any bandwidth and null placement in the desired direction. The slope equalization method improves the SLL of the beamformer. Compared to Kaiser, Chebyshev, DPSS and Taylor beamformers, the proposed narrowband and wideband beamformers exhibit lower and tapered side lobes, hence improved First Null to Last Null (FNLN)ratio. The proposed wideband beamformer exhibits superior performance in the wideband frequency range of 1-3GHz. 2019 IEEE. -
Natech guide words: A new approach to assess and manage natech risk to ensure business continuity
The risk posed by natural hazards to the technological systems is known as Natech risk. It is different from the more widely known and studied risk posed by such sites to the environment and society. Though currently, available risk assessment techniques recognize Natech, the specific qualitative technique for Natech risk assessment and reduction has not yet been developed. After analyzing past data of Natech accidents, relevant guide words have been suggested in this study. These guide words will help anticipate Natech risk and visualize the Natech scenario. Once the Natech risk is identified, corresponding risk reduction measures can be taken to avoid possible Natech accidents and consequences. 2021 Elsevier Ltd
