Narrative Therapy with Dalit Female Survivors of Violence
Narrative therapy is an evidence-based therapeutic intervention that can help address trauma experienced by women who have experienced violence. Narrative therapists open up new perspectives for their clients by examining moments of strength, vitality, and autonomy, which are often hidden in stories about oppression, suffering, and marginalization. Dalit women who participated in the research revealed how the stories opened up new possibilities for constructing unique narratives. A multiple case study design was used to elicit the responses of female survivors with severe mental illness to physical, sexual, and psychological abuse perpetrated by Dalit and higher caste men. 2024 Mary Ann Liebert Inc.. Narrativity and the Problematics of Authenticity in Hungry Ghosts by Kevin Jared Hosein
Postcolonial historical fictions, set in turbulent times, grapple with the question of authenticity in their fictional representations of events and individuals of the past. Trinidadian novelist Kevin Jared Hoseins Hungry Ghosts (2023), set in the estate barracks and surrounding milieu of 1940s Trinidad, is no exception. The paper argues for a nuanced understanding of the term authenticity in our reading of historical fictions, and explores Hoseins use of the formal, imaginative and affective dimensions of narration in negotiating representational adequacy and strengthening the significant thematic concerns in the text. Through textual analysis, the paper explores how Hosein situates his text firmly within the spatio-temporal reality of the period and captures the struggles of becoming confronting a population whose lives are coloured by historical trauma and continuing spatial hierarchy. 2024 The Editorial Board, Current Writing. -
Natech guide words: A new approach to assess and manage natech risk to ensure business continuity
The risk posed by natural hazards to the technological systems is known as Natech risk. It is different from the more widely known and studied risk posed by such sites to the environment and society. Though currently, available risk assessment techniques recognize Natech, the specific qualitative technique for Natech risk assessment and reduction has not yet been developed. After analyzing past data of Natech accidents, relevant guide words have been suggested in this study. These guide words will help anticipate Natech risk and visualize the Natech scenario. Natural convection of a binary liquid in cylindrical porous annuli/rectangular porous enclosures with cross-diffusion effects under local thermal non-equilibrium state
The present article reports an analytical study of the double diffusive natural convection (DDNC) in cylindrical porous annuli (CPA) and rectangular porous enclosures (RPE), which are handled in a unified way using the curvature parameter, saturated by a binary liquid under the assumption of local thermal non-equilibrium (LTNE) state. The buoyancy forces (thermal and solutal) driving the flow are assumed to be induced by the maintenance of constant and uniform heat and mass fluxes applied along the vertical (radial) walls and insulation of both horizontal walls of the annuli/rectangular enclosures. The Darcy-Boussinesq equations with LTNE assumption between the fluid and solid phases are employed to model the problem of DDNC in a binary liquid-saturated porous medium with cross-diffusion effects. The analytical results are obtained by employing the Oseen-linearization transformation technique in the study. The influence of various dimensionless parameters on heat and mass transports of the system are depicted using the Nusselt and Sherwood numbers and isotherms plots, and the obtained results are analysed with the physical explanation. Special attention is given to understand the effect of LTNE parameter and cross-diffusion parameters on heat and mass transports of the system. Different aspect ratio values are chosen to obtain the results of three types of CPA/RPE (shallow, square and tall). Among these CPA/RPE, maximum and minimum heat and mass transports are achieved in the cases of shallow and tall CPA/RPE, respectively. The results of the pure thermal convection problem is obtained at the zero value of buoyancy ratio and solute Rayleigh number. The increasing value of N magnifies the heat and mass transports in the system due to the augmented buoyancy effect resulted from the thermal and solutal gradients. The increase of solid inner cylinder radius, by fixing its volume, makes the annulus slender which yields to decrease the heat and mass transports in the system. The effects of LTNE parameter and cross-diffusion parameters on heat and mass transports of the system are clearly brought out. The results of LTE model are obtained at the infinite value of ratio of porosity modified thermal conductivities, ?, as a particular case of the present model. From the study, we conclude that the shallow porous annulus and tall rectangular enclosure are best suited in the design of heat removal and heat storage systems, respectively. 2021 -
Natural convection of water-copper nanoliquids confined in low-porosity cylindrical annuli
Natural convection in cylindrical porous annuli saturated by a nanoliquid whose inner and outer vertical radial walls are respectively subjected to uniform heat and mass influxes and out fluxes is studied analytically using the modified Buongiorno-Darcy model (MBDM) and the Oseen-linearization technique. Nanoliquid-saturated porous medium made up of water as base liquid, copper nanoparticles of five different shapes, viz., spheres, bricks, cylinders, platelets and blades, and glass balls porous material is considered as working medium for investigation. The thermophysical properties of nanoliquid -saturated porous medium is modeled using phenomenological laws and mixture theory. The effect of various parameters and individual effects of five different shapes of copper nanoparticles on velocity, temperature and heat transport are found. From the study, it is clear that the addition of a dilute concentration of nanoparticles increases the effective thermal conductivity of the system and thereby increases the velocity and the heat transport, and decreases the temperature. In other words, the heat transport is more in the case of heat and mass driven convection compared to purely heat-driven convection. Among the five different shapes of nanoparticles, blade-shaped nanoparticles facilitate the transport of maximum temperature compared to all other shapes. Maximum heat transport is achieved in a shallow cylindrical annulus compared to square and tall circular annuli. The increase of the inner solid cylinder's radius is to decrease heat transport. The results of the KVL single-phase model are obtained from the present study by setting to zero the value of the nanoparticles concentration Rayleigh number. Natural polymer-based hydrogels as prospective tissue equivalent materials for radiation therapy and dosimetry
Natural polymer-based hydrogels have been extensively employed in tissue engineering and biomedical applications, owing to their biodegradability and biocompatibility. In the present work, we have investigated the efficacy of hydrogels such as agarose, hyaluronan, gelatin, carrageenan, chitosan, sodium alginate and collagen as tissue equivalent materials with respect to photon and charged particle (electron, proton and alpha particle) interactions, for use in radiation therapy and dosimetry. Tissue equivalence has been investigated by computing photon mass energy absorption coefficient (?en/?), kinetic energy released per unit mass (KERMA), equivalent atomic number (Zeq) and energy absorption build-up factors (EABF) relative to human tissues (soft tissue, cortical bone, skeletal muscle, breast tissue, lung tissue, adipose tissue, skin tissue, brain) in the energy range of 0.01515MeV. Ratio of effective atomic numbers (Zeff) have been examined for tissue-equivalence in the energy range of 10keV1GeV for charged particle interactions. Analysis using standard theoretical formulations revealed that all the selected natural polymers can serve as good tissue equivalent materials with respect to all human tissues except cortical bone. Notably, sodium alginate, collagen and hyaluronan are found to have radiation interaction characteristics close to that of human tissues. These results would be useful in deciding on the suitability of a natural polymer hydrogel as tissue substitute in the desired energy range. 2021, Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine. -
Navigating AI and chatbot applications in education and research: a holistic approach
Purpose: This study aimed to identify factors influencing AI/chatbot usage in education and research, and to evaluate the extent of the impact of these factors. Design/methodology/approach: This study used a mixed approach of qualitative and quantitative methods. It is based on both primary and secondary data. The primary data were collected through an online survey. In total, 177 responses from teachers were included in this study. The collected data were analyzed using a statistical package for the social sciences. Findings: The study revealed that the significant factors influencing the perception of the academic and research community toward the adoption of AI/interactive tools, such as Chatbots/ChatGpt for education and research, are challenges, benefits, awareness, opportunities, risks, sustainability and ethical considerations. Practical implications: This study highlighted the importance of resolving challenges and enhancing awareness and benefits while carefully mitigating risks and ethical concerns in the integration of technology within the educational and research environment. These insights can assist policymakers in making decisions and developing strategies for the efficient adoption of AI/interactive tools in academia and research to enhance the overall quality of learning experiences. Originality/value: The present study adds value to the existing literature on AI/interactive tool adoption in academia and research by offering a quantitative analysis of the factors impacting teachers' perception of the usage of such tools. Navigating brand equity in personal care: Examining the influence of direct-to-consumer brands and the mediating power of brand image
The COVID-19 pandemic triggered consumers to buy products online, leading t o unprecedented and unforeseen growth in the e-commerce sector. Therefore, the revolution made by Direct-to-consumer (DTC) brands went unnoticed. Unlike the conventional approach, which took years to build brand trust and equity, the DTC business model allows companies to grow exponentially with their presence in personal care online marketplaces. Therefore, the rise of DTC brands empowers small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in India, mainly because the return on ad spend (ROAS) for these brands is a huge problem when compared to giant companies. Also, branding in tier 2 and tier 3 markets has triggered new hurdles as consumers need to build brand trust to pay or transact online. The present research examines how a DTC website and electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) can enhance the effectiveness of branding for direct-to-consumer brands. The study employed a quantitative methodology by analyzing the survey-based research design, with 389 respondents who were aware of and/or used DTC personal care brands in India participating. The present studys findings demonstrate that website attractiveness and electronic word-of-mouth enhance DTC brands and minimize costs developed to advertise a product, increasing ROAS. Further research studies would broaden DTC brands' knowledge by investigating the impact of e-commerce and social media channels on enhancing consumers' brand equity or purchase intention. 2024 Conscientia Beam. NAVIGATING FOR PEACE IN THE CONUNDRUMS OF RELIGION AND LAW
It is a critical question whether unrestricted freedom of religion is detrimental to the development of peace. Recently the religious dictate of wearing a hijab has come in conflict with the prescription of uniforms at educational institutions. This led to large-scale violence and unrest in society. It raised concerns about the scope of the right to freedom of expression, protection of religious expression, the overarching requirement of a need for public order, and reasonable accommodation of diversity in society. This research explores these issues in the context of educational institutions by critically analysing the laws and operative principles and the role of law and religion in promoting social cohesion and integrity. Navigating real estate purchase decisions: an interplay of influential factors
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between social trends, peer influence, personal attitudes regarding real estate purchase decisions, perception of long-term property value and the mediating effect of hedging in influencing property and real estate purchases. Design/methodology/approach: Using a combination of quantitative surveys, this study aims to provide a comprehensive knowledge of the factors influencing real estate buying decisions. Data were obtained from 399 young consumers in four Indian cities. Using structural equation modeling, the suggested conceptual framework is examined. Findings: The studys findings suggest that attitude plays an important role in influencing real estate purchase decisions. Young adults also tend to look for long-term gains or value when purchasing a home. Developing durable products for the customers is the best way to grow business, according to the results. Originality/value: To the best of the authors knowledge, this is the first paper that examines the role of sentimental, personal and financial factors in real estate purchase decisions. The study provides insights into how these factors interact and affect the decisions of consumers in real estate. Navigating the emotional maze: Understanding Adolescent suicidal ideation using CNN-LSTM model
Teenage suicidal ideation is on the rise, which emphasizes how crucial it is to recognize and comprehend the variables that contribute to this problem. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs), which are complex machine learning models capable of analysing intricate relationships within a network, are one possible strategy for addressing this issue. In our study, we employed a CNN-LSTM hybrid model to explore the complex relationships between teen suicide ideation and various risk variables, including depression, anxiety, and social support by analysing a substantial dataset of mental health surveys, seeking patterns and risk factors associated with suicidal thoughts. Our objective was clear: identify adolescents prone to suicidal ideation. With 24 parameters and a sample size of 3075 subjects, our model achieved an impressive F1-score of 97.8%. These findings provide valuable insights which helps in developing effective preventive interventions to address adolescent suicidal ideation, finding out the important patterns and risk variables related to suicidal thoughts. Navigating the need for accessible labelling through the narratives of consumers with visual impairment in India
This study aims to understand the strategies consumers with visual impairment (CWV) use in acquiring product information and explores preferences for accessible labelling and its benefits. This study employed the qualitative approach of thematic analysis. A snowball sampling technique was used to recruit participants. Data were collected from CWV through semi-structured interviews. The sample size of this study was 12. The data were analysed using NVivo software. The study revealed three strategies used by CWV to obtain product information, namely reliance on caregivers, staff, and technology. However, all the strategies employed have multiple drawbacks. The study reported a high preference for accessible labelling in braille and quick response (QR) codes. Implementing a combination of braille labels and QR codes on product packages was the most beneficial strategy for CWV. The Implementation of accessible labels ensures inclusion in the marketplace. NDC Pebbling Number for Some Class of Graphs
Let G be a connected graph. A pebbling move is defined as taking two pebbles from one vertex and the placing one pebble to an adjacent vertex and throwing away the another pebble. A dominating set D of a graph G = (V, E) is a non-split dominating set if the induced graph < V ? D > is connected. The Non-split Domination Cover(NDC) pebbling number, ?ns(G), of a graph G is the minimum of pebbles that must be placed on V(G) such that after a sequence of pebbling moves, the set of vertices with a pebble forms a non-split dominating set of G, regardless of the initial configuration of pebbles. Need for an Evolved Groundwater Justice in Rural Areas of Uttar Pradesh, India
As groundwater is the primary element of life, countries all over the world are experimenting with legal reforms. The degree to which law reforms combine justice and sustainability is a crucial question. In response to this question, the present article focuses on a case study of Uttar Pradesh, India. Our response is based on a content analysis of the Uttar Pradesh Groundwater (Management and Regulation) Act, 2019, and the Uttar Pradesh Groundwater (Management and Regulation) Rules, 2020. Three conclusions emerged from our investigation. First, the 2019 Groundwater Act and the 2020 Draft Groundwater Rules are primarily motivated by concerns about resource sustainability, particularly in areas where the water table is steadily declining. Still, neither the 2019 Groundwater Act nor the 2020 Draft Groundwater Rules propose any proactive groundwater justice measures. Second, we suggest that some locally defined basic elements are critical in supporting sustainability and to a lesser extent groundwater justice. These characteristics include a communitys ability to (1) recognize a crisis and show a willingness to address it; (2) establish a rule-bound community groundwater resource; (3) demonstrate leadership and a sense of community; and (4) make use of awareness, information, and knowledge. Our third conclusion is that there is a need for community practices and state-led groundwater law to co-evolve; this co-evolution has the potential to create groundwater arrangements that support both groundwater justice and sustainability. 2024 Technoscience Publications. Need of integrated care model for positive childbirth experience in Indian maternity care services
BACKGROUND: Integrated care (IC) models are an emerging trend in healthcare reforms worldwide, especially in the maternal healthcare system. This research focuses on the scope of an integrated model for intrapartum care of women and explores the experience of birth under two intrapartum care modelsbiomedical and midwifery models, respectively. The term positive childbirth experience (PCE) is a concept defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) in the recommendations on intrapartum care for a PCE. MATERIALS AND METHOD: This study is convinced to employ a qualitative approach to explore how birth is experienced by women under maternity healthcare services in Kerala. A semi?structured interview was conducted to tap into the lived reality of birthing of sixteen first?time mothers (primipara) aged between 20 and 30 years under these two models. Furthermore, five participants have been specifically interviewed after their vaginal birth after a C?section (VBAC) experience. To achieve a systematic cross?case thematic analysis, systematic text condensation (STC) has been employed as a data analysis method. RESULTS: Four main categories were identified through the analysis as follows: (1) information and knowledge, (2) confidence, (3) quality of care, and (4) health?promoting perspective. These central themes evolved from 11 subthemes. CONCLUSION: The data analysis reveals both negative and positive experiences under two care models. It emphasizes the urgent need to reframe the biomedical?focused care model and adopt an integrated approach that aligns with the global intrapartum care model proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2018 and the definition of IC mentioned in the paper. 2024 Journal of Education and Health Promotion. -
Network Based Detection of IoT Attack Using AIS-IDS Model
In recent days Internet of Things attained more familiarity. Although it is a promising technology, it tends to lead to a variety of security issues. Conventional methods such as IoT ecosystem based solutions were not suitable to give dilemmas to the system. A new system model called adaptive and intelligent Artificial Immune System (AIS) imitates the process of human being an immune system that consists of eligible properties of this varying environment. Therefore, it enhanced IoT security. Conventionally classifiers such as Random Forest Classifier, Recurrent Neural Network and K-nearest neighbours are used to classify the signals as normal or abnormal and predict malicious attacks. But unfortunately, these classifiers generated a high false alarm rate. Thus, a framework with maximum accuracy and minimum false alarm rate was required. In this work, the AIS model adopts the benefits of the Hopfield Neural Network (HNN) for classification. HNN classifier has a fixed weight, as it cannot be changed for its backpropagation property. This work optimally selects the fixed weight using Fast- Particle Swarm Optimization (F-PSO) and helps to enhance the accuracy of the HNN classifier. This classifier model then differentiates IoT attacks with a high detection rate and normal signal. Three datasets are taken to execute the proposed model and define its accuracy. The proposed Artificial Immune system using HNN for Intrusion Detection System (AIS-IDS) model exhibits 99.8% accuracy for the first dataset and minimum error value. The false alarm rate was minimized using danger theory and its high activation function; thus, the false alarm rate was minimized by up to 8% more than previous classifiers. 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.
