Chitosan stabilized platinum nanoparticles: Synthesis, characterization and cytotoxic impacts on human breast cancer cells
Platinum nanoparticles are widely studied as a nanomedicine against many of the solid tumours. Due to their promising physicochemical properties, chitosan-stabilized platinum nanoparticles may exhibit exceptional cytotoxic effects on cancer cells. This article describes the synthesis and characterization of chitosan-stabilized platinum nanoparticles (Ch-Pt NPs) through a wet chemical method and in vitro studies of their anticancer effect on human breast cancer cells (MCF-7 cell line). Different analytical methods confirmed the formation of chitosan-stabilized platinum nanoparticles. The structural and surface morphological analyses were done using XRD, FTIR, TEM, FESEM, etc. Elemental analysis was done using XPS and EDX. The hydrodynamic diameter and zeta potential were determined using DLS and zeta analyzer. These platinum nanoparticles have a spherical shape and FCC structure with an average particle size of 3.4 nm and an average hydrodynamic diameter of 248 nm. The characteristic FTIR peaks of chitosan in the sample confirmed the capping of chitosan on the surface of the Pt NPs. The surface charge estimation using a zeta potential analyzer showed ?23.8 mV, elucidating the stability and dispersity of the as-synthesized Pt NPs. The in vitro cytotoxicity study using MTT assay revealed a non-toxic behaviour on normal L929 cell lines and a severe anti-proliferative activity on a human breast cancer (MCF-7) cell line with an IC50 value of 35.60 ?g/ml after 24 h of incubation. This result indicates a better anticancer therapeutic application against human breast cancer cells for the as-synthesized chitosan-stabilized platinum nanoparticles. 2024 Elsevier B.V. -
Chlorella vulgaris-mediated sustainable biogenic synthesis of silver nanoparticles for wastewater remediation and antibacterial applications
This investigation examines the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (SNPs) using Chlorella vulgaris as a reducing and stabilizing agent. Algae-mediated SNPs (ASNPs) were tested for the potential application in sewage water remediation and as an antibacterial agent. Biogenic ASNPs demonstrated excellent stability and a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) peak at 440 nm. Energy dispersive X-ray (EDAX) spectroscopy analysis and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy investigation indicated the role of biomolecules originating from the algal extract, which play a crucial role in the green synthesis process of ASNPs. Dynamic light scattering analysis yielded a hydrodynamic mean particle size of 200 nm and a zeta potential of around 18 mV. Observation under electron microscopy presented the morphological diversity with a prominent signature of elemental silver in ASNPs. A domestic waste sewage sample collected from a sewage treatment plant presented elevated levels of alkalinity, salinity, and biological oxygen demand (BOD). ASNP treatment normalises most of the water parameters, while algal extract alone could produce minimal effects. The antibacterial evaluations against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, well-known opportunistic pathogens responsible for a wide range of hospital and community-acquired infections, showed dose-dependent effects. These findings highlight the dual functional role of C. vulgaris-mediated SNPs as an effective, eco-friendly solution for both wastewater remediation and antibacterial application. 2025 Elsevier Ltd -
Chlorin e6 decorated doxorubicin encapsulated chitosan nanoparticles for photo-controlled cancer drug delivery
In the study we have reported the physico-chemical, photophysical and morphological properties of chlorin e6 (Ce6) decorated doxorubicin (DOX) encapsulated chitosan (CS)-tripolyphosphate (TPP) nanoparticles which prepared by ionotropic gelation method. The Ce6 physically loaded onto the nanoparticles by self-assembly of CS with TPP-DOX under aqueous conditions. The results from DLS studies highlights the prepared nanoparticles that possess the size in the range of 80120 nm. with negatively charged of ?6 mV. The SEM and AFM images showed 80120 nm size while the average size of the Ce6 decorated nanoparticles was found to be around 100130 nm. The absorption spectra of Ce6 decorated nanoparticles are similar when compared to free Ce6 which suggest there is no change in the Ce6 chromophore upon decoration. This nanoparticle showed high photostability and singlet oxygen generation (SOG). The Ce6 decorated and DOX encapsulated nanoparticles sizes and charges are in the range of 90130 nm and ?30 mV respectively. The nanoparticles showed high encapsulation efficiency towards DOX as well as pH controlled release. This has significant anti-proliferative activity against MCF-7 breast cancer cells after irradiation at near infra-red (NIR) ranges were evaluated. Chloroform fraction of Chaetomorpha brachygona, a marine green alga from Indian Sundarbans inducing autophagy in cervical cancer cells in vitro
Sundarbans Mangrove Ecosystem (SME) is a rich repository of bioactive natural compounds, with immense nutraceutical and therapeutic potential. Till date, the algal population of SME was not explored fully for their anticancer activities. Our aim is to explore the potential of these algal phytochemicals against the proliferation of cervical cancer cells (in vitro) and identify the mode of cell death induced in them. In the present work, the chloroform fraction of marine green alga, Chaetomorpha brachygona was used on SiHa cell line. The algal phytochemicals were identified by GCMS, LCMS and column chromatography and some of the identified compounds, known for significant anticancer activities, have shown strong Bcl-2 binding capacity, as analyzed through molecular docking study. The extract showed cytostatic and cytotoxic activity on SiHa cells. Absence of fragmented DNA, and presence of increased number of acidic vacuoles in the treated cells indicate nonapoptotic cell death. The mode of cell death was likely to be autophagic, as indicated by the enhanced expression of Beclin 1 and LC3BII (considered as autophagic markers) observed by Western blotting. Cholesterol reduction and heavy metal assimilation characteristics of Pediococcus pentosaceus strains isolated from pickle and moor-kuzhambu
Aims: Consumption of fermented foods are known to provide various health benefits. The present study was aimed to isolate novel potent probiotic strains from the homemade fermented Indian recipe Moor Kuzhambu and Pickle and its characterization to elucidate the efficacy of isolate in cholesterol and heavy metal reduction. Methodology and results: Cultures isolated from Pickle (CK2) and Moor Kuzhambu (CK3) were identified as different strains of Pediococcus pentosaceus using the 16S rDNA sequence-based bacterial identification method. The study analysed the survival of probiotic strains under the influence of various chemical and natural stimulants. The isolated strains exhibited tolerance to gastric juice and were able to exhibit a broad range of tolerance to varying temperatures, pH, NaCl, solvent, phenol, trypsin and artificial gastric juice. Microencapsulation studies were conducted using alginate and chitosan to increase the shelf life of the isolated probiotic. Preliminary analysis regarding cell surface studies such as autoaggregation, co-aggregations and cell surface hydrophobicity determined the ability of the strains to aggregate on to intestinal cell surface and manifest competitive pathogen displacement. Conclusion, significance and impact of study: Remarkable biofilm reduction of 48% to 80% was observed in the probiotic-supplemented samples. Similarly, a reduction of 80% to 85% free cholesterol was noted in cholesterol assimilation assays and heavy metal (Cu+, Pb+, Zn+ and Fe+) assimilation ability was observed. Chromatic bounds of some (P5, banner)-free graphs
Let ?(G) and ?(G), respectively, denote the chromatic number and clique number of a graph G. A P5 is a path on five vertices, a banner (paw) is the graph obtained by joining a new vertex to a single vertex of C4 (C3) and a hammer is obtained by subdividing the pendant edge of a paw exactly once. Recently, (P5,banner)-free graphs have received wide attention. In 2019, Karthick, Maffray and Pastor, gave a structural characterisation of (P5,banner)-free graphs, which when combined with a result by Bourneuf and Thomass[Bounded twin-width graphs are polynomially ?-bounded, Adv. Comb. (2025)] implies that for a (P5,banner)-free graph G, ?(G) ? ?(G)5. Geir [Colourings of P5-Free Graphs, PhD Thesis, Technische Universit at Bergakademie Freiberg (2022)] showed that the ?-binding function of the class of (P5,banner)-free graphs is bounded by the ?-binding function of 3K1-free graphs. By a result of Kim [The Ramsey number R(3,t) has order of magnitude t2/log t, Random Structures and Algorithms 7(3) (1995) 173207], the chromatic number ?(G) of a 3K1-free graph G has order of magnitude ?(?(G)2/log ?(G)). Recently, Song and Xu [Divisibility and coloring of some P5-free graphs, Discrete Appl. Math. 348 (2024) 144151] proved that every (P5, C5, banner, hammer)-free graph G is ?(G)3/2-colorable. This motivates us to study the subclasses of (P5, banner)-free graphs. We prove that for any (P5, banner, F ? K1)-free graph G where F ?{C4,K4 ? e,K3 ? K1,paw}, ?(G) ? ?(G)2/2 for ?(G) ? 3. Chromatic completion number
The well known concept of proper vertex colouring of a graph is used to introduce the construction of a chromatic completion graph and determining its related parameter, the chromatic completion number of a graph. The chromatic completion numbers of certain classes of cycle derivative graphs and helm graphs are then presented. Chromatic Harmonic Polynomials and Indices of Jump Graphs of Some Graphs
The jump graph J(G) of a graph G of order n ? 3 is the complement graph of the line graph L(G). The line graph L(G) of G is the graphical realisation of edge adjacency in G and the jump graph is the graphical realisation of edge independence in G. Chromatic Zagreb and irregularity polynomials of graphs
Graph coloring is an assignment of colors, labels or weights to elements of a graph subject to certain constraints. Coloring the vertices of a graph in such a way that adjacent vertices are having different colors is called proper vertex coloring. A proper vertex coloring using minimum parameters of colors is studied extensively in recent literature. In this paper, we define new coloring related polynomials, called chromatic Zagreb polynomials and chromatic irregularity polynomials, in terms of minimal parameter coloring and structural characteristics of graphs such as distances and degrees of vertices. 2021 World Scientific Publishing Company. -
Chronic Disease Diagnosis Using Multi-modal Transfer Learning Model
Chronic diseases are on rise in recent times and symptoms of these disorders need to be detected at an early stage. Traditional methods in handling these risks are quite resource intensive and costly with less accuracy. This paper explores transfer learning to address the challenge of limited data in diagnosing chronic diseases like chronic kidney disease, breast cancer, hepatitis, and Alzheimers. We propose a multi-modal framework utilizing pre-trained models: image recognition for medical images and natural language processing for textual data. Transfer learning aims to improve diagnostic accuracy and reduce training time, enabling development of adaptable tools for various chronic diseases. The implementation results show the performance of the model is promising generating an accuracy rate of 94%. Cinematic Witnessing as Queer-Affirmative Expressive Arts Practice: A Phenomenological Study of Vicarious Healing Among LGBTQIA+ Elders in India
This study examines the therapeutic and expressive potential of queer-themed Indian cinema as an arts-based intervention for LGBTQIA+ elders with trauma histories, positioning film-viewing as a structured modality of reflective witnessing and vicarious healing. Using a hermeneutic phenomenological design, the research engaged 12 LGBTQIA+-identified elders (six trans women and six cisgender gay men), aged 6073 years in India to explore how mirror scenes in cinema activate emotional resonance, memory retrieval, and identity integration. Narrative data from two rounds of in-depth interviews revealed four cross-cutting thematic clusters, Quiet Survival, Reclaiming Worth, Healing Mirrors, and Chosen Kinship, demonstrating how film functions as a psychologically containing, aesthetically mediated space for meaning-making. Grounded in intersectionality, affect theory, queer-affirmative trauma frameworks, and expressive arts therapy, the findings illustrate how cinematic encounters support affect regulation, narrative re-authoring, and embodied self-recognition. The study also highlights how caste, class, gender identity, and historical criminalization under Section 377 shape viewers readiness for and access to media-based healing, with trans Dalit elders articulating cinema as both an emotional refuge and a site of political affirmation. Overall, the research contributes an empirically anchored model for integrating film into creative arts therapies, offering a culturally responsive conceptual pathway for trauma-informed elder mental health practice within similar socio-cultural contexts. 2026 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. -
Cinnamon A Competent Drug: A Review on Extraction, Analysis and Anticancer Action
Cinnamon, an Indigenous species, is extensively used as a folk medicine in India, China, and other parts of the world due to its therapeutic potential inherited via the latent chemical composition. The vital component presented is cinnamaldehyde, along with cinnamic acid and cinnamate, which contributes to being an anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, and anticancer agent together with the capability to control neurological syndromes like Alzheimer's and even Parkinson's diseases. Given the importance of the anticarcinogenic properties of cinnamon on various cell strains concerning the curable effect, this review focuses on evaluating different extraction methods like steam distillation, Soxhlet extraction, microwave-assisted extraction, and more, in addition to a summary of new technologies like gas chromatography, HPLC, DART-MS, and NMR, etc. which paved the way in characterizing the chemical composition of cinnamon. Cipher Block Chaining Support Vector Machine for Secured Decentralized Cloud Enabled Intelligent IoT Architecture
The growth of internet era leads to a major transformation in a storage of data and accessing the applications. One such new trend that promises the endurance is the Cloud computing. Computing resources offered by the Cloud includes the servers, networks, storage, and applications, all as services. With the advent of Cloud, a single application is delivered as a metered service to numerous users, via an Application Programming Interface (API) accessible over the network. The services offered via the Cloud are such as the infrastructure, software, platform, database and web services. The main motivation of this application model is to provide computationally secure key generation to protect the data via encryption. This key generation in the cryptography process falls into three categories in this research work. In the first part, SVM based encryption service model is constructed for which the key generation is from the conventional encryption operation mode with some improvements. To make the process more complex, the optimization techniques are taken into account for the key generation in descendant two methods application model that acts computationally more secure specifically for Cloud environment. The results of security analysis confirm the effectiveness of the proposed application model withstands potentially against various attacks such as Chosen Cipher Attack, Chosen Plain text Attack indistinguishable attacks for files. In case of images, it resists well against statistical and differential attacks. Additionally, the article examines and compares different circuit breaker libraries available for employment in modern software development. Circular Economy in the Construction Industry: Promoting Environmental Sustainability in the Context of SDG 12
The construction industry in particular is experiencing a time of fast expansion as a result of the circular economy (CE), which is causing firms all over the globe to go through this transformation. The purpose of this research is to investigate the practise of incorporating CE principles into the construction industry, with a particular emphasis on the advancement of environmentally sustainable activities. The purpose is to lessen the negative effect that it has on the environment, which is the objective of SDG 12, which is being carried out simultaneously. Circular supply chains in manufacturingQuo vadis? Accomplishments, challenges and future opportunities
Circular approach in manufacturing supply chain (SC) operations yields multiple benefits through optimal utilisation and consumption of resources. This study maps the scope and structure of circularity in the manufacturing SC discipline and explores the evolution of the domain over time. We review 946 journal articles published between 2013 and September 2023. Our study identifies key drivers and barriers to circular economy (CE) deployment in manufacturing SC operations, bibliometric parameters, emerging research themes, decision support tools, theories and applications. Using the theory extension approach, we propose a strategic framework to fortify the deployment of circularity in SCs. This comprehensive study renders a methodological contribution through combined descriptive content analysis and bibliometric and network analyses to evaluate the circular manufacturing SC operations concepts, theories and applications. We posit that manufacturing firms require to deploy innovation-led approaches to embed the CE strategies in their SC operations. We find that the studies investigating green skill development and circularity-culture adoption can facilitate manufacturers to understand the efficacy of circularity in their SC operations. The findings of this study can facilitate the practitioners to identify the links between the CE approaches and their strategic implications and examine CE implementation at the strategic level. 2024 The Authors. Circulating Current Control in Modular Multilevel Converter Using a Super Twisted Sliding Mode Control
A Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) has gained widespread popularity due to its notable advantages, including high efficiency, flexibility, minimal harmonic distortion, lower power device ratings, modularity, and scalability. Despite these benefits, the MMC encounters challenges such as voltage balancing and circulating currents. The primary objective is to balance capacitor voltages in each submodule without excessive power electronic device switching. To address this, a controlled switching frequency technique is employed to reduce the average switching frequency of the devices, mitigating voltage imbalances. However, challenges persist, notably the introduction of even-order harmonics with the second harmonic being particularly prominent in inner current. These even order harmonic components contribute to increased power losses, device stress, and potential system instability. Conventional methods of suppression of circulating currents have limitations in harmonic elimination and complex in implementation. This paper proposes a super twisting sliding mode control (SMC) to concurrently manage balancing of capacitor voltages and control of circulating currents in the MMC. The controller effectively reduces the harmonic components, with a focus on the dominant second harmonic in inner currents. Phase disposition (PD) PWM is utilized for MMC phase control, and the proposed controller, initially implemented for a single-phase MMC, demonstrates potential extension to three-phase systems. Comparative analysis with conventional PI controllers and the presentation of results in the MATLAB/Simulink environment validate the efficacy of the proposed super twsiting SMC controller. Data security is paramount in the increasingly connected world. Securing data, while in transit and rest, and while under usage, is essentialfor deriving actionable insights out of data heaps. Incorrect or wrong data can lead to incorrect decisions. So, the confidentiality and integrity of data have to be guaranteed through a host of technology-inspired security solutions. Organizational data is kept confidentially by the businesses and governments, often in distant locations (e.g., in cloud environments), though more sensitive data is normally kept in house. Citizens Perception on Livability in Indian Metropolitan Cities
Background: Livability is a complex and multifaceted concept, but is important in creating places where people can thrive. Investing in the factors contributing to livability can create more attractive, sustainable, and equitable communities. Livability is important for several reasons. It can affect peoples health, well-being, and productivity. It can also influence whether people live in a particular place and whether businesses are willing to invest there. Methods: A survey was conducted to review the top livable cities of India as per the Global Livability Index parameters such as sociocultural, environmental, healthcare, education, and infrastructure aspects. A mixed method approach, having both qualitative and quantitative analyses, was adopted for the survey. The targeted sample size was 100 people, covering stakeholders from around the campus. Findings: As an outcome of the survey analysis, the most livable cities were categorized. Conclusion: In conclusion, policy narratives and frameworks are outlined emphasizing the need and the importance of citizens participation in assessing the quality of life across Indian metropolitan cities. 2024 Springer Publishing Company.
