Wound healing efficacy of Couroupita Guianensis loaded carboxymethylcellulose film
Couroupita Guianensis extracts loaded carboxymethylcellulose film (CGELCF) was fabricated through a solution casting technique. Phytochemical screening confirmed the presence of alkaloids, proteins, flavonoids, saponins, carbohydrates, cardiac glycosides, and coumarins in CGE. The HPLC revealed that ellagic acid and gallic acid derivatives are abundant in CGE. FTIR spectrum confirmed the different functional group's presence in the film. The XRD, DSC, and TGA revealed the crystallinity, thermal stability, melting point (300 C), and degradation of the film. FESEM and EDX analysis revealed surface morphology and elemental compositions. The atomic wt% of C, O, Na, and P were found as follows 38.39, 49.34, 11.44, and 0.83. The zone of inhibition was found as 19 and 20 mm against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli respectively. The tensile strength and modulus of elasticity was found 7.35 MPa and 1.38 GPa respectively. In-vitro wound scratch revealed above 90 % of cell migrations for all the concentrations after 18 h. The in-vitro cytotoxicity revealed 90.83 % of cell viability and 9.17 % of toxicity. In-vivo studies revealed that wound closure and wound healing with the CGELCF mice was within 7 days and exhibited the rapid drug. The CGELCF may find usage as a bandage for wounds. 2025 -
Rough Set Based Ant-Lion Optimizer for Feature Selection
As the area of computational intelligence evolves, the dimensionality of any sort of data gets expanded. To solve this issue, Rough Set Theory (RST) has been successfully used for finding reducts as it requires only supplied data and no additional information. This paper investigates a novel search strategy for minimal attribute reduction based on rough sets and Ant Lion Optimization (ALO). ALO is a nature-inspired algorithm that mimics the hunting mechanism of ant lions, and this is inspired to find the minimum reducts. Datasets from the UCI repository are used in this paper. Robust feature selection using rough set-based ant-lion optimizer for data classification
The selection of an algorithm to tackle a certain problem is a vital undertaking that necessitates both time and knowledge. Non-functional needs, such as the size, quality, and nature of the data, must frequently be taken into account. To develop a generalized machine learning model for any domain, the most relevant features must be chosen because noisy and irrelevant characteristics degrade data mining performance. However, the selection of the dominating features is still dependent on the search technique. When there are a high number of input features, stochastic optimization can be applied to the search space. In this research, the authors investigate the ant lion optimization (ALO), a natureinspired algorithm that mimics the hunting process of ant lions and is further stimulated to identify the smallest reducts. They also investigate rough set-based ant lion optimizer for feature selection. Optimizing energy consumption in iot sensors through deep learning-based power management
The rapid growth of internet of things (IoT) devices necessitates efficient power management to curb escalating energy consumption. This chapter proposes a novel solution by employing deep learning techniques to optimize energy use in IoT sensors. The authors review existing IoT sensor energy consumption challenges and conventionalpower management limitations. Drawing ondeep learning's successes, they develop an architecture trained on curated sensor data. Practical implications span industries, scalability, and generalizability to diverse IoT setups. Economic insights highlight potential cost savings and benefits. Topological insights into weather dynamics in the Indian context: An application of clustering and Mapper algorithm
Analysis of day-to-day weather patterns is critical and essential in daily life. Although traditional methods exist, in modern times, we have developed realistic and reliable methods to provide better insights and understanding of complex weather patterns for various surges, especially in these times of global warming. Implementing clustering and topological data analysis in this analysis has looked into a vast understanding of how regions with similar characteristics behave when weather changes occur due to heat, pressure, or wind-related phenomena. The classification model developed using Mapper analysis has produced 95.8% accuracy, concluding that weather follows a transient weather pattern due to various resources and how stagnant conditions affect transient weather patterns, causing rise in sub-clusters. Selection of Tightened-Normal-Tightened sampling scheme under the implications of intervened Poisson distribution
Tightened-normal-tightened (TNT) sampling scheme is one of the most frequently used sampling schemes for making decisions about the finished product lots by examining certain samples from the lots. TNT sampling scheme includes two attribute sampling plans, one for tightened inspection and other for normal inspection along with switching rules. This paper introduces a procedure for TNT by incorporating two single sampling plans (SSP) under the conditions of intervened Poisson distribution (IPD) for the lots which may have a possibility of someintervention during the production process. The paper also assesses the performance of the proposed scheme procedure through its operating characteristic curves. Also, the unity value table is provided for certain parameters of specified producer's risk and consumer's risk for shop floor conditions. Further, the efficiency of proposed TNT scheme over the individual SSP under the conditions of IPD is demonstrated with illustrations. 2019 University of the Punjab. -
The little I receive is not enough: A qualitative study of food insecurity in the South Bronx
The objective of this study was to explore the lived experiences of food insecurity amongst Bronx residents. Applying a community-based participatory research approach, we conducted a qualitative study, entailing 38 interviews with food pantry recipients, 4 key informant interviews with social service administrators, and two focus groups with 12 food pantry staff and social service providers in New York City (NYC). Applying a precarity framework, we identified three themes: (1) unaffordability of living expenses in NYC; (2) financial hardships during the COVID-19 pandemic; and (3) institutional and technological barriers to food access. We identified the following subthemes under theme one: rising food costs and high cost of living. Under theme two, we identified four subthemes: (a) large household size driving poverty for Bronx families; (b) vulnerabilities to food insecurity among older adults; (c) budgeting for reduced incomes during the COVID-19 pandemic; and (d) managing unstable employment. Under the third theme, we identified three subthemes: (a) lack of access to healthy, culturally appropriate foods; (b) need for wider service availability; (c) and not having smartphones for telehealth. PATENTABILITY OF BIOTECHNOLOGY INVENTIONS: Indian Ethical Guidelines
Advances in technology have made patenting of biotechnology inventions mandatory. The patent law system contains general clauses prohibiting the patenting of inventions contrary to public order or morality. Recent years have brought numerous debates on limiting the possibility of patent protection for biotechnology inventions for ethical reasons. The existing literature examines bioethical justification in terms of the principles of respect for autonomy, non-maleficence, beneficence and justice. Interface between Legal and Moral Implications on Patenting Biotechnological Inventions: A Comparative Analysis of the Patents Law of India, the US and the EU
The biotechnology industry has seen one of the most significant expansions in the Patent Laws. It is challenging for a law to link with protecting the intangible property vested in biotechnology patents, as the biotechnology resources come from living organisms. Patenting biotechnological inventions raises legal, ethical and moral concerns. In the light of the current context, this paper examines patents law of Section 3(b) of the Indian Patents Act, 35 U.S.C Section 101 of the U.S. Patent Law, Article 53(a) of the European Patent Convention and Article 6 of the EU Biotech Directive. The paper compares the legal structure of these three countries, illuminating the similarities and differences in interpreting morality provisions by referring to various case precedents, statutes, and legal references within the patent laws of the United States and the European Union as a benchmark for evaluating Indias patent system. The paper proposes and suggests clarifying morality clauses of the Indian Patents Act to keep up with the advancements in Biotechnology inventions by providing a clear definition of morality and contrary to public order instead of patent controllers exercising their discretionary power unguided. Legal Framework and Ethical Challenges in Patenting AR/VR Innovations in Healthcare Under the Indian Patent Act, 1970
Augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) are gradually becoming significant to various industries, such as gaming, education, industrial design sectors, and healthcare. Even though augmented and virtual reality breakthroughs have already revolutionised healthcare by enhancing diagnosis, treatment, medical education, training and rehabilitation, granting patents to these technologies-imposed challenges when it comes to legal and moral concerns. Section 3(k) of the Patents Act 1970 forbids patenting softwaredriven discoveries and therapy-oriented applications. Such a legal constraint could be challenging for augmented reality and virtual reality technologies in healthcare, as it mostly depends on algorithmic procedures and therapeutic functions to develop breakthroughs. Other challenges could be section 3(b) of the Patents Act of 1970, which prohibits inventions that are contrary to public order or morality or cause harm to the environment, as ethics and morality play a crucial role in patenting AR/VR healthcare technology. The primary purpose of patent law is to encourage inventions, but it can cause medical care by creating a monopoly and allowing limited access to society. Patenting AR/VR technologies is essential to address moral and ethical concerns, as patenting these technologies in healthcare will promote inequality in patient care. The purpose of the present article is to analyse the ambiguity of the patentability of AR/VR technology in healthcare under the Patents Act of 1970 while addressing moral values with references to the principles of ethics. Experience of psychic restructuring among refugees in the context of life in refuge
Changes in the inner voice, thoughts, and feelings due to the recurrent experiences in social and cultural reality are defined as psychic restructuring (PR). Any collective trauma can drastically change a persons psyche in multiple ways. The first argument of the study is that PR happens in individuals as a result of exile, which has manifold reasons. The second argument is that first-generation older adults crave for their homeland more intensely because of their subtle memories of the left behind. The third argument is that there are metaphorical representations of exilic experiences in the art forms that would depict their inexplicable quest for PR. Finally, it suggests the possibility of constructive PR in refugees with the aid of clinically driven and standardized art-based therapies (ABT). These arguments have multicollinearity in the context of PR, which still needs to be studied. Antibacterial activity and spectroscopic characteristics of silver nanoparticles synthesized via plant and invitro leaf-derived callus extracts of Mucuna pruriens (L.) DC
In this paper, we describe the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using plant extracts, as well as their structural, optical, and antibacterial activities against Escherichia coli and Bacillus velezensis bacteria. For the study, several sections (root, leaves, and seed) of Mucuna pruriens, an immense medicinal herbal used to treat Parkinson's disease, were evaluated. Also, the seeds were grown in-vitro in the modified Murashige and Skoog's medium and the leaf derived callus supplemented by different phytohormones like picloram (pic), thidiazuron (TDZ), 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) and 2-isopentenyl adenine (2-iP) were selected for this study. This is the first report of distinct callus obtained from M. pruriens and used for green nanoparticle synthesis. The prepared materials were thoroughly evaluated for structural and optical properties using XRD, FTIR, and UV-Visible spectroscopy. During synthesis, the colour changes from colourless to reddish brown, and the existence of an SPR peak in the absorption spectra confirms the formation of AgNPs. The FTIR spectra reveals the presence of phenolic group and alkyl ether groups, which were responsible for the reduction of silver ions during the green synthesis. The aqueous extracts of plant parts and callus obtained from different hormones showed very poor antibacterial activity. However, the green synthesized nanoparticles fabricated by different plant extracts showed good antimicrobial activity towards E. coli and B. velezensis bacteria. amongst the investigated results, highest antimicrobial activity against E. coli (84.8%) and B. velezensis (78.1%) was shown by AgNPs mediated by leaf extracts respectively followed by 0.5 mg/L pic and 2.0 mg/L BAP callus mediated silver nanoparticle solution.
