Social Inclusion, Equality, Leadership, and Diversity to Attain Sustainable Development Goal 5 in the Indian Banking Industry
The UN SDG 5 aspires to end all kinds of bigotry and abuse of women, although gender bias still exists in India. Most bank employees are men; few women hold senior positions in Indias banking industry because of the countrys early history of limiting chances for women to enter the profession. The solution to this is to hire women in leadership positions from international locations if the banking sector opens. The development of the banking industry in India relies on the best talent. The banking sector must open its position for multinational expatriates to maintain diversity and bring forth the inclusivity of a multi-talented global workforce. The concept of liberalization, privatization, and globalization in the Indian context is limited. Privatization and globalization can only be anticipated if they have a multicultural workforce within the country and globally. 2022 -
Social isolation and loneliness among Generation Z employees: can emotional intelligence help mitigate?
The paper tested a moderated mediation model with social isolation, loneliness, emotional intelligence, and quality of life among Generation Z (Gen Z) employees. Approximately 568 Gen Z employees participated in this study. We used WHOQOL-BREF for measuring quality of life, Schuttes emotional intelligence test, UCLA loneliness scale and social isolation scale from Choi and Noh. We applied the PROCESS macro (model 7) by Hayes for a moderated mediation analysis, using emotional intelligence as a moderating variable and loneliness as a mediating variable between social isolation and quality of life. The results indicate that emotional intelligence moderates the mediating effect of loneliness on social isolation and quality of life and supports hypothesis 2. First, the indirect impact of social isolation on quality of life varies as a function of emotional intelligence moderating the path. Second, both social isolation and loneliness are negative and significant predictors of quality of life. Loneliness is not an individual problem anymore but a public health issue around the world. Individuals who are lonely experience both mental and physical health issues. Strong measures are needed to combat loneliness, and the current research results confirm that emotional intelligence-based interventions will help individuals fight loneliness. 2024 The Author(s). Social media activism: Delving into Generation Zs experiences
Generation Z, a digitally tethered cohort, widely utilises social media platforms for activism. As their influence within organisational and political spheres rises, their digital activism will likely redefine the sociopolitical landscape, especially in India, where youth civic participation is pivotal. However, despite its prominence, there is a significant dearth of research exploring what goes on behind the screens. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the experiences of Generation Zs social media activists, particularly their perceived identity, roles, underlying motivations, real-world and self-impact. Employing a phenomenological qualitative research design, 10 semi-structured interviews were conducted. Thematic analysis revealed that while both internal and external catalysts drive Generation Zs social media activism, it is also characterised by intersecting identities, emotional turbulence, adverse psychological effects, uncertainty, self-devised coping mechanisms and opportunities for personal growth. Thus, this study presents a comprehensive portrait of the typical Generation Z social media activist, with wide-ranging implications. 2025 Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Communication Association. -
Social Media Addiction and ParentPeer Attachment in Telangana Adolescents: A Cross-sectional Investigation
Background: The ubiquity of social media in contemporary life has raised concerns about its potential negative impacts, particularly among adolescents. While the impact of attachment on adolescents social media use has been studied in Western and South Asian contexts, there is a paucity of research on this relationship in the Indian context. Aims: This study aimed to find the relationship between sociodemographic factors, attachment to parents and peers, and social media addiction among adolescents in Telangana, India. Methods: A random cluster sampling method was used to survey 264 6th to 12th grade students in two schools. Data was collected using the Parent and Peer Attachment Inventory and the Social Media Disorder Scale. Chi-square analysis, Pearsons correlation, and multiple regression analysis were done to achieve the research objective. Results: The study found no association between sociodemographic factors (age, gender, socioeconomic status, family type, and number of siblings) and social media addiction. However, significant negative correlations were found between social media addiction and dimensions of attachment to parents and peers, except for communication with friends. Multiple regression revealed that attachment dimensions explained 15.7% of the total variance. The variables, Trust in the father and Alienation from the mother independently and significantly predicted social media addiction. Conclusion: The findings underscore the importance of attachment relationships in understanding social media addiction among Indian adolescents. The results reveal that fathers and mothers attachments to adolescents predict adolescent social media addiction differentially. Further research, especially longitudinal studies, is needed to explore these relationships in greater depth. 2025 Indian Journal of Social Psychiatry. -

Social Media Dependency and Facebook Usage among the Older Adults of Kerala
Social media has become an integral part of modern society, with people of all ages using various platforms to connect, share information, and stay up-to-date on current events. However, there has been a recent trend of increased Facebook usage among older adults, which has raised concerns about social media dependency. The current study explores the trends in social media dependency and Facebook intensity among older adults of Kerala. The present study employed a quantitative research design and the sample consisted of 416 older adults, aged above 60 years. Two scales were used to collect data: the Social Media Dependency Scale (SMDS) and the Facebook Intensity Measure (FBI). Frequency and percentage analysis, Spearman's Rho, Kruskal-Wallis H test, and Mann-Whitney U test were carried out using SPSS (Version 23) for deriving results. Those individuals who are more dependent on social media are also more likely to engage in high levels of Facebook activity. A good majority of the participants were found to be using social media and Facebook for more than 3 hours in a day and having more than 400 friends. Social media dependency and Facebook intensity were reported to be high in urban localities, South Kerala having significantly higher rates of social media dependency when compared to North and Central regions. Social media dependency was found to be high among males, whereas no difference was in Facebook intensity among male and females. Implications: Given the importance of social connections for the well-being of older adults, it is critical to understand the impact of social media use on their lives and develop strategies to promote healthy social media behaviour. 2023 Redfame Publishing Inc.. Social media disorder in relation to device screen time and autosuggested social media content engagement; [Zislost zp?soben?asem stren na socinh sh v souvislosti s automaticky generovan obsahem na socinh sh]
Though emerging technology offers people a comfortable life, a few adverse effects also exist. There was a rapid increase in mobile phone usage and internet consumption during and post the Covid-19 pandemic, which reached the extent of addiction among youths. Thus, this study examines social media disorder among adolescents in relation to the time spent on a computer or smart-phone device screen and engaging in autosuggested social media content. The study included 235 responses from students in higher secondary schools of Bangalore, India. The study found a significant positive correlation between device screen time, autosuggested social media content engagement (ASMCE), and social media disorder. Multiple regression analysis indicated that 56.5% of social media disorder among adolescents is due to the time spent on a computer or smart phone device and autosuggested social media content engagement. The study did not measure any differences in social media disorder based on the demographic details of the study participants. As social media disorder affects the mental health of adolescents, especially in post pandemic times, and further affects their academic performance, the researchers suggest that future studies explore the other factors causing social media disorder. 2023 The Authors. -

Social Media Sentiment Analysis of Stock Market on Tweets
Sentiment categorization is utilized in today's world to analyze social media data about the stock market and estimate its future stock movement. We investigated the possible influence of 'public sentiment' on 'market trends' using sentiment analysis and machine learning concepts. Due to the enormous number of components involved, such as economic situations, political events, and other environmental factors that may affect the stock price, stock price prediction is an exceedingly complicated and challenging process. Because of these considerations, evaluating a single factor's influence on future pricing and trends is challenging. As more individuals spend time online, the popularity and impact of numerous social media platforms has skyrocketed in recent years. Twitter is one such social media tool that has exploded in popularity. Twitter is a terrific place to stay up to speed on current societal trends and perspectives. The 'Twittersphere' is a melting pot that supports diverse viewpoints, emotions, and trends, and it has the potential to be a crucial influencer in influencing and shaping perceptions. 2022 IEEE. -

Social Network User Profiling With Multilayer Semantic Modeling Using Ego Network
Social and information networks undermine the real relationship between the individuals (ego) and the friends (alters) they are connected with on social media. The structure of individual network is highlighted by the ego network. Egocentric approach is popular due to its focus on individuals, groups, or communities. Size, structure, and composition directly impact the ego networks. Moreover, analysis includes strength of ego alter ties degree and strength of ties. Degree gives the first overview of network. Social support in the network is explored with the gap between the degree and average strength. These outcomes firmly propose that, regardless of whether the approaches to convey and to keep up social connections are evolving because of the dispersion of online social networks, the way individuals sort out their social connections appears to remain unaltered. As online social networks evolve, they help in receiving more diverse information. 2022 IGI Global. All rights reserved. -
Social performance and sustainability of Indian microfinance institutions: an interrogation
This paper has come forward from the research proposal to understand the effect of social performance on the sustainability of microfinance institutions. Social support and help-seeking worldwide
Social support has long been associated with positive physical, behavioral, and mental health outcomes. However, contextual factors such as subjective social status and an individuals cultural values, heavily influence social support behaviors (e.g., perceive available social support, accept support, seek support, provide support). We sought to determine the current state of social support behaviors and the association between these behaviors, cultural values, and subjective social support across regions of the world. Data from 6,366 participants were collected by collaborators from over 50 worldwide sites (67.4% or n = 4292, assigned female at birth; average age of 30.76). Our results show that individuals cultural values and subjective social status varied across world regions and were differentially associated with social support behaviors. For example, individuals with higher subjective social status were more likely to indicate more perceived and received social support and help-seeking behaviors; they also indicated more provision of social support to others than individuals with lower subjective social status. Further, horizontal, and vertical collectivism were related to higher help-seeking behavior, perceived support, received support, and provision of support, whereas horizontal individualism was associated with less perceived support and less help-seeking and vertical individualism was associated with less perceived and received support, but more help-seeking behavior. However, these effects were not consistently moderated by region. These findings highlight and advance the understanding of how cross-cultural complexities and contextual distinctions influence an individual's perception, processing, and practice of social support embedded in the changing social landscape.
