Breaking the Taboo: Addressing Menstrual Health Challenges in India
Although, menstrual hygiene is a topic as ancient as mankind, it has recently garnered attention because society is more willing to face its difficulties. Adolescents seldom talk about issues related to menstruation, menstruation disorders, menstrual cleanliness, and customs of their culture. There is little data on the hardships that teenage females bear from menstruation and their social norms. Adolescent health education must include information about menstruation. Menstrual behaviors are often greatly influenced by culture, awareness, and social condition. However, periods, behaviors, and problems are seldom included in health education programs for the younger girls in impoverished nations. International health organizations such as WHO and UNICEF have advised developing culturally responsive menstrual health management (MHM) as well as water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programs for the adolescent girls. Without an awareness of the preconceived notions and prejudices that teenage girls in poor nations currently have about menstruation, these programs cannot be implemented. The goal of this review from India was to record the myths that are currently in circulation concerning menstruation, menarche, and other understudied menstrual constraints. Our goal in conducting this review was to characterize and assess the effectiveness of menstruation education programs designed to provide early teenage girls the information and abilities they need to support menstrual health. Study of classical Be stars in open clusters older than 100 Myr
We performed the slitless spectroscopic survey to identify classical Be (CBe) stars in open clusters older than 100 Myr. Observing a sample of 71 open clusters, we identified 13 CBe stars in 11 open clusters, one of, which (TYC 2679-432-1) is a new detection. The 13 CBe stars show both H? in emission and IR excess, which confirm that they possess gaseous circumstellar discs. Two more CBe stars are found to exhibit H? in absorption for the first time, indicating that might be passing through disc-less episode presently. The spectral-type estimation is done for all these 15 stars and it is noticed that they belong to B0.5B8 type. Indexing exoplanets with physical conditions potentially suitable for rock-dependent extremophiles
The search for different life forms elsewhere in the universe is a fascinating area of research in astrophysics and astrobiology. Currently, according to the NASA Exoplanet Archive database, 3876 exoplanets have been discovered. The Earth Similarity Index (ESI) is defined as the geometric mean of radius, density, escape velocity, and surface temperature and ranges from 0 (dissimilar to Earth) to 1 (similar to Earth). The ESI was created to index exoplanets on the basis of their similarity to Earth. In this paper, we examined rocky exoplanets whose physical conditions are potentially suitable for the survival of rock-dependent extremophiles, such as the cyanobacteria Chroococcidiopsis and the lichen Acarospora. The Rock Similarity Index (RSI) is first introduced and then applied to 1659 rocky exoplanets. The RSI represents a measure for Earth-like planets on which physical conditions are potentially suitable for rocky extremophiles that can survive in Earth-like extreme habitats (i.e., hot deserts and cold, frozen lands). 2020 by the authors. Strength and ductility behaviour of FRC beams strengthened with externally bonded GFRP laminates
The repair and rehabilitation of structural members are perhaps one of the most crucial problems in civil engineering applications. One of the advanced techniques of strengthening the reinforced concrete members is done by fiber-reinforced polymer composites. FRP is very effective to repair and strengthen the structural members that have become structurally weak over their life span. FRP repair system provides an economically viable alternative to traditional repair systems and materials. This experimental study focuses on the flexural strengthening of fiber reinforced concrete beams externally bonded with FRP laminates of different thicknesses. Six beams were cast for the study and tested under a four-point bending system. Out of which two beams were served as a control beam, one beam was considered as a reinforced concrete beam and the other was fiber reinforced concrete beam. The fibers used in this investigation were steel fiber. The beams were strengthened with GFRP of 3 mm and 5 mm of woven roving type. The study parameters of this investigation included yield load, ultimate load, deflection, yield load deflection, ultimate load deflection, deflection ductility, energy ductility, and the beam was found to be very effective in the load-carrying capacity, deflection, and ductility when compared to the control specimen. The fiber-reinforced concrete beam exhibit an increase in ultimate deflection by 79.3% when compared to the control specimen. GFRP strengthened beams showed an increase in ultimate deflection by 18.75% to 94.06%. GFRP strengthened fiber reinforced concrete beams showed an increase in ultimate deflection by 7.8 to 13.125%. GFRP strengthened beams showed an increase in ultimate deflection by 54.7% to 81.88%. GFRP strengthened fiber reinforced concrete beams showed an increase in ultimate load-carrying capacity by 36.9% to 48.7%. Visual media, namely films, is one of the greatest mediums for the conveyance of propaganda. Dystopian films contain strong persuasive content in them and are used by filmmakers to spread propaganda. Unlike the filmmakers of the past, dystopian filmmakers focus on the future and their films are usually set in a futuristic environment. The environement is usually shown as being completely destryed by neglect or the overtake by technology. -
Experiences of raising children with autism :
The purpose of the study was to address the gap in the literature related to fathers role and experiences in raising boys with autism in the Indian context. Though the study has tried to homogenise the sample to the best possible extent it does not aim to generalise the results; rather it seeks newlineto get an insight into some facets of the fathers experiences. A qualitative phenomenological approach was used for this study which addressed the three research questions: 1) What are the experiences of fathers before and after the diagnosis of autism? 2) What are the challenges that fathers experience as they raise their child with autism? 3) What are the personal changes that fathers go through as they raise their child with autism? Tied together these research questions sketches the journey travelled by the fathers and gave a sweeping picture of their overall newlineexperiences as fathers of children with autism. The study has mapped and constructed the passage of thirteen fathers of children with autism aged between six to 11 through a one on one interview. All the ethical newlineconsiderations have been followed. The participants were able to provide a rich and detailed account of their experiences of bringing up a child with autism. The analysis was done using Interpretative Phenomenologic alAnalysis. newlineSix major themes emerged from the study. They are 1) Making sense of early warning signs 2) The impact of diagnosis 3) Negotiating the social world 4) Accepting and accommodating autism 5) Personal transformations 6) Bonding with the child. One of the earliest behaviours noticed by all the fathers was a delay in speech. None of the fathers resisted going for a diagnosis. In fact, once they found that something was different in their child, they relentlessly pursued the reason for it. -
De novo synthesis of 2,2-bis(dimethylamino)-3-alkyl or benzyl 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-one compounds
A new versatile and efficient strategy for the synthesis of 2,2-bis(dimethylamino)-3-alkyl or benzyl 2,3-dihydroquinazoline-4(1H)-one compounds has been developed by one-pot multicomponent reaction with isatoic anhydride, amines followed by in situ-generated Vilsmeier reagent. A novel approach for the synthesis of functionalized hydroxylamino derivative of dihydroquinazolinones
A new metal-free and modular approach for the synthesis of various functionalized dihydroquinazolinones has been developed from isatoic anhydride, amines, 4-chloro-N-hydroxybenzimidoylchloride to yield up to 71%. The reaction has been screened in various bases, solvents at different temperatures. A strong technique for solving the fractional model of multi-dimensional Schnakenberg reaction-diffusion system
In recent times, researchers have increasingly directed their focus toward Reaction-Diffusion models, attracted by their versatile applications across various scientific domains. Within these models, the Schnakenberg Reaction-Diffusion System (SRDS) has gained significant attention for its ability to explain intricate phenomena such as oscillatory behavior, limit cycles, pattern formations and diffusion in biochemistry. This paper specifically delves into the Fractional Schnakenberg Reaction Diffusion System (FSRDS), an extension of SRDS that incorporates principles of fractional calculus. This extension provides a more comprehensive framework for understanding complex dynamics. The unique aspect of this work lies in the innovative approach used to derive an analytical solution for FSRDS - the Residual Power Series Method with Laplace Transform (L.T.)/Laplace Residual Power series Method (LRPSM). Mother Phubbing and Psychological Well-being: Exploring Mediating Role of Loneliness
Mothers phubbing has been connected to a rise in loneliness and a fall in well-being in the role of parenthood. Study examined loneliness as a mediator between mother phubbing and psychological well-being. In total 186 mothers (30-45 years) were surveyed. Results highlighted that Mother phubbing negatively correlated with psychological well-being (r = -0.29) and loneliness (r = -0.39). Loneliness is negatively correlated with psychological well-being (r = -0.40). Traditional Food Systems in the Indian Himalayas Perspectives from Climate Science
The Indian Himalayas have various crops and livestock that have sustained local communities for generations. Nonetheless, multiple factors, such as climate change, threaten these conventional agricultural systems. This chapter examines the climate science perspectives on traditional farming systems in the Indian Himalayas. It overviews the regions agricultural systems, including cultivated cereals and domesticated animals. The work also examines the effects of climate change on traditional farming systems, including temperature fluctuations. Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent, and precipitation patterns are changing. This passage highlights the significance of traditional knowledge in coping with climate change. It emphasizes the importance of utilizing integrated approaches that merge traditional knowledge with climate science to ensure the sustainability and resilience of conventional agricultural systems in the Indian Himalayas. Impact of Globalization and Multinational Corporations on Farmer Suicides in India: An Overview, Effects, Strategies and Policies
The tragic rise of farmer suicides in India brought to light some of the high social and ecological costs associated with globalization and unsustainable agriculture. The study analyzes the impact of globalization and MNCs on farmer suicides and suggests strategies and policies. A Pilot Study on Detection of Microplastics for Environmental Monitoring Using Inland Lakes as Ecological Indicators
The waterbodies of a city play a major role in its biodiversity and ecological well-being. The main aspect of this study was to select lakes close to urban areas that are affected due to garbage dumping or have wastewater treatment plants inlets in them and check for microplastics (MPs) presence in them. Seetharampalya and Puttenahalli lakes in Bangalore both showed the presence of microplastics in their water and bank sediment soil samples, which were segregated by the wet peroxide oxidation process. In scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis, the microplastics segregated from the water of Seetharampalya lake were found to be clumped and in clusters of uneven form and shape. Microplastics extracted from the soil of Seetharampalya lake were found to have sheet, like structures with occasional dumps or clusters. The microplastics sorted out from Puttenahalli lake water were uneven and had roughly rectangular structures. The soil microplastics recovered from Puttenahalli lake were found to be sheaths of globular masses. The energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analysis majorly showed presence of carbon and oxygen. In Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis, characteristic peaks at 719/cm and 1469/cm were observed. Similarly, in x-ray diffraction (XRD), the 26 values around 20 could be seen in all four samples. A comprehensive review of microplastic pollution in freshwater and marine environments
Water popularly termed the The Elixir of Life is now polluted beyond control in several regions. Microplastics, the tiny contaminants have found their way into all walks of life. They have also been found to be present in human blood, multiple organs, and even breast milk. There is an abundance of microplastics in the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink. Curbing them has to start with a ban of all forms of primary microplastics, and single use plastics with preference being given to biodegradable alternatives. India in particular banned single use plastics in 2022, which put an end to several commonly used plastic items being replaced with biodegradables. Paint is one of the largest contributors to microplastics, followed by textile industry, cosmetic, pharmaceutical industry, packaging industry are all top contributors to microplastics. The wastewater treatment plants aren't designed to filter microplastics from the source and this results in microplastics polluting all water resources. Though several novel techniques for microplastic segregation exist such as sieving, filtration, density separation, visual sorting, alkali digestion exist, they aren't fully employed as the initial process of microplastic segregation from waste is still in question. 2024 The Author(s) -
Detrimental effects of microplastics in aquatic fauna on marine and freshwater environments A comprehensive review
The world is ever evolving and new technologies are popping up everywhere. New inventions and discoveries have created a better world, but not a sustainable one. The whole earth is drowning in various pollutants and garbage. Plastic pollution has garnered sufficient attention and there are various teams and organizations working toward cleaning our beaches, parks, and environment. However, all these actions will not suffice as plastics have trickled down into microplastics, which are posing a greater threat to our water systems and aquatic fauna. Several ongoing researches focus on marine microplastics, while only 13% of studies are on freshwater. Research on microplastics is now on the rise, with new strategies and restrictions being put into place to curb its accumulation in our marine and freshwater environments. In a recent study, microplastics were found to be present in human blood with. Out of 22 people tested, 17 test subjects had microplastics present in their blood.
