Gamification in teacher education: Teacher educators and trainee teachers' perspectives in India
Gamification emerged as a teaching-learning pedagogy in recent years. Its usage increased during the Covid-19 lockdown and continued post-pandemic time. Its usage ranges from online to offline tools; teachers lack its awareness as a pedagogy. The present study aimed to understand perspectives of teacher educators and teacher trainees on inclusion of gamification pedagogical training in teacher preparation programmes. The study employed a mixed-method approach and included qual-quant sequential explanatory research design. Researchers conducted semi-structured interviews with six teacher educators and six trainee teachers and collected the opinion of 200 teacher educators and trainee teachers. The study employed inductive thematic analysis and Chi-square analysis for qualitative and quantitative data respectively. Findings revealed six main themes and twelve sub-themes. Chi-square revealed a gender science-stereotype amid association between teacher educators and teacher trainees' opinion. Senior teacher educators did not believe in the importance of gamification inclusion in teacher preparation. 2024, IGI Global. All rights reserved. -

Social cognition, person perception, and social categorisation as building blocks of the theory of mind
Day-to-day life presents us with numerous new experiences and exposure to different people, with social functioning being a major portion of one's living days. The theory of mind, a mental map of an individual in automating behaviour, is a process and product of one's social cognitions. There are evident changes across generations in terms of these cognitions and social processing, hence showing need for understanding the theory of mind of different generations, breaking it down into its component parts. The present study was conducted to understand the components of the theory of mind in relation to social functioning. Sixty-three participants across three different generations, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z, were subjected to focused group discussions and the collected data analysed using a grounded theory approach. The analysis identified five components of the theory of mind applicable to all generations: social perception, social judgment, people perception, people preference, and social categorisation. 2024, IGI Global. -

Development of effective charging station for EVs using multiport converter and photovoltaic cell integration
The adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) is increasing rapidly as a response to the urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on fossil fuels. However, the deployment of a reliable and cost-effective EV charging infrastructure remains a challenge. To address this challenge, this paper proposes the development of an effective charging station using multiport converter and photovoltaic cell integration. A promising approach in the transportation sector is an efficient charging station with multiport converter and photovoltaic cell integration. A multiport converter, photovoltaic cells, a battery energy storage system, and an electric vehicle charging port constitute the proposed charging station. The power flow between the photovoltaic cells, the battery energy storage system, and the electric vehicle charging port is controlled by the multiport converter. The excess energy generated by the photovoltaic cells is stored in the battery energy storage system. The proposed charging station is designed and analysed using MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation results show that the proposed charging station is capable of providing an electric vehicle a reliable and consistent power supply. In contrast to conventional charging stations, the proposed charging station is also capable of offering a faster charging rate. 2024 Nova Science Publishers, Inc. All rights reserved. -

Discovering the Micro-Clusters from a group of DHH learners: An approach using machine learning techniques
The e-learning environment is essentially helpful for improving the autonomous learning skills of the DHH learners. Facing numerous resources online, DHH learners need support to choose the right learning materials. This can be done by recommending suitable learning objects to similar types of learners. Hence, this research attempts to explore the possibilities of forming micro clusters from the group of DHH learners to improve the recommendation. As a result of k-means, three different micro clusters are formed. So, from the initial analysis, it is identified that the formation of micro clusters is possible, and features such as communication and learning ways play an important role in forming the well-defined micro clusters. This will definitely help the teachers in traditional classrooms and recommendation engines in e-learning to explore the micro clusters of learners with same learning patterns and communication preferences to appropriately stream the right pedagogical methods. 2024, IGI Global. Unlocking eudaimonic well-being: Assessing the impact of adolescent social cognitive skills training
Eudaimonic well-being (EWB) has long-lasting effects on individuals' mental health, enabling them to find purpose and meaning in life, depending on the individual and society. Social cognitive skills training constitutes a new aspect of the adolescent's social development, including three domains: cognitive ToM, affective ToM, and an inter-intra-personal understanding of social norms. This chapter identifies the effectiveness of A-SCST on eudaimonic well-being (EWB) during adolescence. A quasi-experimental research design was used in this study. The authors administrated the PWB-18 scale as a screening tool and the PWB-42 item scale as an outcome measure. Seventy-four participants and adolescents participated in this study. This study confirmed that A-SCST has a positive outcome on the eudaimonic well-being of adolescents post-training with a large effect size, t =-13.0, df = 35, p <.001, r =-2.17 in the experimental group. The A-SCST has successfully improved the eudaimonic well-being of adolescents. 2024, IGI Global. -
